He thought he was in control until she snuck into his heart… Carter Hill walked away from a perfectly fine life and relationship…all for a career she’s chased since she was fourteen. Years and a PhD later, she loves her job as a water rights consultant. At the same time, now that all her brothers are happily married, she’s lonely and wanting more. But the only man in her life is Logan – super … is Logan – super serious, no sense of humor, and friend-zoned. Or is he? Perhaps a sexy, no-strings affair with a man more driven than she is could help her move on.
Logan Cartez doesn’t date, do relationships, or worry about commitment. He’s married to his job – making sure what destroyed his family ranch and their legacy doesn’t happen to others. When Carter propositions him, what began as a passionate and unforgettable night soon develops into more. Logan finds himself doing things he swore he never would, and the feisty, brilliant, blue-eyed rancher’s daughter has him thinking about so much more than work.

Landing the Lawman by Kadie Scott is the fifth book in the Hills of Texas series. This book can be read as a stand-alone although personally I think all these books are worth reading.
As usual when I picked up this book I found myself reading a sweet and heartwarming story. This book is about the final Hill sibling, Carter, a character that I definitely loved. Her connection with Logan is lovely to read about. They have such a believable chemistry that made the book even better.
The story was a well written one, developed well with a great pace to it. I easily found myself lost in the story and it was such a fun read.
I have loved this series from the start and, although I am sad to see it end, I am please with how the author tied it all up. This definitely worth a read and one I will certainly go back to in the future.
A sweet hot romance read. Friends to lovers. Logan and Carter work well together and respect each other. But also are attracted to each other. One night of unforgettable passion between them leads to more. Making it hard for Logan’s no relationship rule. A story of learning to trust again, realizing your dreams change and not giving up on what matters to you. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC from Tule Publishing.
5 Star

Landing the Lawman by Kadie Scott is book number five in the Hills of Texas series. This is Logan Cortez and Carter Hill’s story.
This was a fun read and loved the interactions between Logan and Carter. It was great seeing them go from working together to more than friends. The water rights case they were working on was interesting and loved the family dynamics.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
If you want a feel good, down to earth, Texas to the core romance, you’ve picked the right book. This book is another beautiful addition to Scott’s series. She crafts a beautiful story that resonates loudly with all hopeless romantics and lovers of a heartwarming tale. I’ve loved each of the books in the series so far and find them all to be very enjoyable in their own right. This latest installment is no exception. Highly recommended.
This is the final book in this wonderful series and is Carter and Logan’s story
Carter Hill is a strong woman who knows what she wants and goes after it after years of study she is finally the specialist she wanted to be on water rights This one minded pursuit has also caused her to be alone her last serious relationship fell apart when he wanted her to leave her job. She sees her brothers all in wonderful relationships and wants more So she propositions her some time boss Logan Cartez he has a broken relationship in his past and now all he concentrates on is work. Will there one night together turn into so much more You will have to read to see
Carter was a specialist in her field. Her ex wanted her to give up her job and live with him. She truly loves her job and did not want to give it up. She decided to end their relationship. She also has a thing for her sometimes boss, the lawyer that she sometimes works for and who is also her friend.
Logan, the lawyer and friend of hers, also had a failed relationship and didn’t want to be tied down. This book is a really great book that kept my interest from start to finish. A must read.
3.5
I enjoyed revisiting the Hill family.
What I liked:
The writing style
The characters
Part of a series: The Hills of Texas
Standalone
HEA
Epilogue
I look forward to reading more from this author.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC from Tule Publishing
Carter Hill had to choose between the man she loved, ranching lie or following her dreams, her PhD and her job where she knew she could make a difference. She could only hope that love would find her again now that her brothers have all married, but until then, she would work hard as a water rights consultant, fighting alongside the lawyers who advocate for those taken advantage of.
Logan Cartez, too serious, an all-business and no play attorney is on a mission to ensure that ranchers like his family are not destroyed when their rights to the lifeblood of ranching are stomped on. Now working with Carter, he finds himself attracted to a woman firmly in his off-limits zone, a colleague, who is not only beautiful, but intelligent and as passionate about her work as he is.
Can Carter awaken the playful side of Logan and perhaps open the vault to his heart? Maybe they could find a no-strings attached adult relationship to while away their free time on their latest case?
Kadie Scott’s LANDING THE LAWMAN is hot enough to make water boil as one woman does her sexy best to break down the walls of indifference in a man who has so much passion to share. Humor, heart and heat, more heat and a twisted water rights battle, yep, that IS steam coming off my Kindle!
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Kadie Scott! This is my honest and voluntary review.
Landing the Lawman, (Hills of Texas #5) A Hills of Texas Romance, by Kadie Scott.
This is the fifth book in this series. I have read all of the books in this series so far, and I have absolutely loved every single one of them!!!
We have seen glimpses of Carter Hill throughout this series, so to finally get her story, was great!!! Carter and Logan have off the charts chemistry. Carter left her family and her fiancé because she wanted her career. Years have passed and she is seeing all of her brothers happily married with children here or on the way, and she knows that is what she wants. The only person in her sights to make this happen, is Logan……. they work extremely well together, could they possibly be more than just “friends”??
There are parts of Logan’s life that no one knows about. With him being on the Hill’s ranch, everything is coming back and he has to deal with not only his past but also his feelings towards Carter…. The only issue is: Logan doesn’t do relationships….. will things change or is heartache in the future for Logan and Carter????

Landing the Lawman is the fifth book in the Hills of Texas Series by Kadie Scott. Even though this is the fifth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. It is another great contemporary romance- with a little drama, lots of chemistry, emotion, steam, tension, angst, banter- and a friends to lovers element.
We’ve met the Hills in the previous books, and this is Carter’s story. This is one of my favourites of the series and I loved following Carter and Logan and seeing how things developed between them. They are such opposites- but really are perfect for each other. Two halves to a whole. And as with the other books in this series, it left me feeling good at the end and really satisfied with how things played out.
I can always count on Ms. Scott to produce a great story that will pull me in and keep me engaged the whole way through. I can’t wait to see what she does next.
Thank you, Ms. Scott!
I received this arc in exchange for an honest review. I have now read and loved all 5 books in the series by Kadie Scott. Each book is about a different Hill sibling. This book is about the only daughter, Carter. She is a PhD and works as an expert witness in Austin on water rights cases. She recently ended a long term engagement because she didn’t want to give up her career and move back home to live on a ranch. Carter works a lot with one of the lawyers that specializes in water rights, Logan. He is very focused on his career to an extreme. In fact we learn his former long term fiancée cheated on him because she hated that he was so devoted to his cases. He broke up with her after that and has only engaged in short term hook ups. Carter has worked hard to cultivate a friendship with Logan and secretly wishes it was more. She is thrilled to be friends and also to get to work on cases together.
The night after a big case was almost won, she went out with Logan and his coworkers at her suggestion. She had also been told that her ex was now engaged to a ranching girl. She was upset in spite of her decision to break up. This situation is out of Logan’s comfort level. She is flirting with the bartender and Logan is jealous. He ends up taking her to his house instead of letting her leave with the other guy for a one night stand. The next morning was somewhat awkward but they pushed through it and decided to remain friends.
That same morning Carter got a call, her mom had been in an accident and she must leave to go to the family ranch to help care for her and keep the ranch going. She had just accepted a new case with Logan. They came up with the idea of him going with her and caring for her mom and working from the ranch while Carter does her field work on the water case at a ranch near by.
Logan is very distracted by thoughts of Carter and the night they had spent together. He doesn’t want to be attracted or have something like this happening. Carter comes to his room at the ranch the first night as she is very attracted to him too. The whole family meets Logan and the brothers let him know they are watching him.
The book explores Carters feelings for her ex fiancée and Logan. She is more of one who tells her true feelings regardless. This is not how Logan is and is makes him a little uncomfortable. We also see Logan go through a transformation with respect to being able to be in a relationship. I enjoyed watching both characters grow and realize their feelings for the other. I also enjoyed the interactions of all the family members again in this book. I highly recommend this book and the wonderful series.
Landing the Lawman by Kadie Scott is a warm and timely story about the only Hill sibling that is female. A sweet hot romance from the get-go, it also pointed out early in the story the importance of available clean water, which is a global concern. The work that the Carter Hill does is important, she is not a damsel in distress sort of heroine. Logan Cortez is more the one who needs saving with his too serious approach to all of life.
This friendship to love story works on so many levels. Carter and Logan respect each other, work well together and enjoy each other’s company so when both are free and single it seemed natural for the relationship to become more. The water rights issues add to the story giving it more substance. The family issues were also interesting though Logan’s solution to caring for Carter’s mom seemed extreme for him to do. Even with that believable at risk, it is an enjoyable story that made it easy to read and difficult to put down.
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Loved this book of friends to lovers with plenty of romance. Carter is married to her job, a water rights consultant. She has always been content with her life, until her brothers are all married and starting their families. Logan, also is a married to his job, a lawyer who protects ranches. He doesn’t want people to loose their property like his family. Logan and Carter are friends, that believe one night of passion will be enough, but soon find out that it is not enough.
This story is full of passion and amusing banter between Carter and Logan, many laugh out moments. Love the Hill family, always willing to help each other. Carter’s dad had such words of wisdom, “the love you feel for him worth taking that risk”.
This is the fifth story in the series but can be read as a stand alone. I highly recommend.
Landing the Lawman (The Hills of Texas Book 5) by Kadie Scott is another enticing story in the series. It is a sweet and funny tale that is sexy and endearing characters that you can’t help but fall in love. Each book has been about all the siblings and has focused on the sons but this story is about the only daughter, Carter. Kadie is a must read author.
Carter is sassy and strong, opinionated and definitely not shy. She knows what she wants and isn’t ashamed to go after it but there is one man who she finally realises she loves but he is not a relationship man.
Logan is a workaholic and does not do relationships with woman and not so much with people in general. But there is one temptation that is slowly getting under his skin.
I highly recommend grabbing a copy and enjoying the ride.
Sometimes what you are looking for is right in front of you….
Carter Hill was once engaged to a man she had known all of her life. The problem was that he didn’t see the real her nor was he willing to open his eyes and see her. So she did the smart thing and broke it off. She had worked hard to earn not only a BS in Engineering but her Masters and a PhD in Hydraulics. And while she loved living in Austin being the best in her field, she still feels like something is missing. But she has her friend and colleague to annoy just like she used to do with her brothers.
Logan Cartez is one of the best lawyers in Texas dealing with water rights. He has a single focus and that is helping those who have been taken advantage of by bigger ranchers and lost their water rights. And he always wins. But his single focus has also meant he doesn’t have friends nor does he do relationships. People think of him as a cold fish although he isn’t since he is very passionate about helping small ranchers. But he does have one friend, Carter. Although it takes him awhile to realize she is not just his friend but the woman he was meant to be with.
Carter also realizes that she is in love with this wonderful man and that she will have to make the first step to make him start to wake up. And when a family emergency happens, Logan steps up to help her and the sparks fly.
This is a wonderful fast paced book that takes place in the Texas hill country. And yes, it does have a HEA but not without some hiccups. Of course there will be hiccups since Carter is a strong willed intelligent woman who doesn’t put up with the BS of a lawyer. Plus she is the only girl in a family with 5 brothers.
I liked this book so much, I have gone back and started to read the other books in this series since I fell in love with her brothers as well.
I did receive a copy of this novel from the publisher in advance in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.
This series is an absolute delight! Up until this point we’ve only seen the romances of the Hill family boys, most of whom are sexy as sin alpha cowboys. Well, after four full-length novels featuring the Hill men, we’re finally privy to the one Hill daughter falling in love with a dashing lawyer. It feels like I’ve been waiting for Carter’s story since book one, and I’m thrilled to say it doesn’t disappoint. I might even go so far as to say that Carter and Logan’s romance is my favorite of the series! It’s definitely a tough call to make, but these two draw you in from opening bell and simply don’t let go. The fact we also get to see glimpses of Carter’s protective brothers, not to mention their entertaining wives, who we’ve come to know and love throughout the series is a glorious bonus.

I’ve read every single one of the Hills of Texas Series so far can not fault a single one! I can confidently tell you that this is a series that shouldn’t be missed! Each read gets better & better and this one is no different. This book was captivating, real and true. I absolutely loved the main characters, the storyline and their connection that developed! This author creates amazing storylines and characters so much so I couldn’t put the read down, she makes her reads real, with true romance mentally visual and extremely well developed! I can’t wait to see what else comes of this series and what else this author brings us!
I’m going to miss The Hills of Texas book series. They were all page-turners right up to the 5th & last book with Cater Hill and her storyline.Very strong ,loyal to her family ,who went after what she wanted in life ,and love.If you haven’t started these books ,now is your chance to download the whole series and grab a cup of tea and binge read during these cold winter months.
This is the fifth book in this series, I highly suggest reading all of them, you won’t regret it. This is my favorite yet of this author’s books. This is a well developed story with attention to details that make you feel as if you are part of the story. The characters made the story feel real plus they are connectable and have great chemistry. Carter has it all but has one problem, she is a little lonely and the only man in her life is Logan. He is a serious, no relationship or commitment type of guy. But will one night between them change their thinking? I highly recommend reading their story to find out what happens next.
