I could not put this down
predictable — narrative was good
It kept my interest
A bit simplistic.
Disappointing in comparison with other similar historical novels.
I’ve found a new author!
Enjoyable read.
I grew up in the frozen north and could somewhat relate to the scenario and the unbridled innocents of the heroine bundled with evil ruthless NAZI and a Cowardly GI pilot makes for an interesting read.
A disappointment. Saw everything coming except the unsatisfying ending. I did enjoy the accurate depictions of life in WW II Norway and the landscape.
I think it was written for a much younger audience. It left me confused about the time elapsed, how long the characters had to survive and by what means. They were in sub-freezing weather with no equipment or food for themselves or mounts. The story line was good, characters well described and kept me reading!
Not sure I was “sold” on the whole story. Felt as if the ending was a bit rushed. Not a bad read but also not spellbinding.
I lived in Norway, which drew me to this book.
This will be of interest to family and friends of the crews who flew in the US Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force (I am the daughter of a B-26 officer). The story is inspirational, as it was written to honor the airmen who flew in the 8th and to honor the locals who did their best to make occupation of their country as difficult as possible for the invaders. There are also bits of history that are worth knowing.
This fictional story is based in Norway during WWII. An American pilot is shot down and a local teenage farm girl finds him and takes him to Sweden. Her father chases them as well as the Germans. You get to see several points of view and the life that went on during this time. The ending will surprise you.
I was impressed with the courage and independence of the main character. What seemed weird was the length of the journey to Sweden yet the very fast return trip to their home. The war intrigue was fascinating.
In a harsh cold land a teenage girl makes a difficult and risky decision that influences the lives of many. Survival, in a country occupied by the Nazis in WW 11, is an everyday struggle. The reader gets to go on a journey as she helps a downed American pilot and decides what is most precious in her life.
A little surprise at the end, not quite a expected.
The book didn’t grab my interest at the beginning, but as I stayed with it, I became engaged in the travels of the two characters. I appreciated the author’s weaving of the various other characters all pointing in the same direction. The descriptions of the frozen landscape were realistic. And I was glad to see some character development in both Kari and her father.
Good war time adventure and survival story with an engaging young main character.
I liked this book. I wasn’t aware that Norway was occupied during the second world war or that the people there suffered terrible oppression. It taught me a lot about something I knew very little about.
