Lies always catch up with the ones keeping them, and Alyeesah has several. Caught up in her pretence as a Princess, Alyeesah learns about her prophecy when it’s almost too late, and if she’s going to stop it and win the heart of her prince, then she’ll have to move quickly. With someone else pulling the strings, and the rest of the academy just waiting for her to make a mistake, it might even … mistake, it might even take Alyeesah’s third wish to get herself out of trouble.

The intensity kept me turning the pages. This addition to the Grimm Academy series was impressive. It was an innovative take on aladdin and his genie. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book in exchange for a free copy.
I really enjoyed this book! The storyline was well developed, the characters were complex and well developed and the story world was detailed. The writing drew me in and I felt immersed in the story! I always enjoy books by this Laura Greenwood and would highly recommend it!

Aly is a street kid in one of those fantasy, Arabic type countries. You know, like Aladdin and the Lamp since that’s the tale this story is based on. She is very hungry, has no idea where her next meal will come from when she sees a perfect ‘mark’. There’s a little old lady who has way too many grocery bags as well as an open money bag. Instead of robbing her, Aly offers her assistance instead. Afterwards, she suddenly sees a gold ring on the ground. When she tries to clean it, a genie comes out and offers her three wishes.
Her first wish was to become a ‘Princess’, go to Grimm Academy and possibly meet a Prince. Ok, I have to say that I liked how Ms. Greenwood didn’t make this happen immediately. The genie actually worked with Aly, teaching her how to read, write, dress and all the general stuff princesses grew up learning. Aly and the genie do eventually make it to Grimm, and the genie continues to help her (without wishes). Aly does meet Prince Enver, and the two of them really hit it off.
The first half of the story all I could think of was the old, eighteenth century saying, “Ask me no questions and I’ll tell you no lies.” Yep, she couldn’t really tell anyone the truth about herself, and it was getting harder every day. In the first book, Ms. Greenwood said that there weren’t any ‘mean girls’ in the stories…I was completely distracted then when there was one in this story! I liked the first two stories the best, but I enjoyed how this isn’t your typical fairy tale. Aly was interesting and I was relieved this is a ‘Happily Ever After’ story.
I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review, but I had already purchased it. I have said this before in other reviews, I always give honest reviews whether people appreciate them or not.
Return to Grimm and another prophecy. This time its a retelling of Aladdin with a twist. It was a cute and fun read. I loved the twist and the story itself. I loved the fact that the wish is flipped and Aly is the star. Loved the clean story. Made me laugh and liked the bit of suspense.
This is a retelling of Aladdin. Where Aladdin is now Alyeesah and she is posing as a princess so she can have her prince. Lies have a way of coming to the surface and she may have to use her third wish to get herself out of this mess and maybe keep the prince in the process. I loved this book and the twist on Aladdin. This is part of the Grimm Academy series and the characters are great and the story was told in a new and different but totally interesting way. Loved this story.

Good addition to the series. I like seeing different takes on classic fairytales and this one is well done with good characters and an interesting twist.
I really enjoy all those Laura Greenwood books. I’ve lost count of how many I’ve read ever since I discovered this author, but I’m still far from bored with them. And the Grimm Academy series is quite easily one of my favorite series written by her. So, even though Aladdin is not really my favorite fairytale, I was quite curious what Greenwood would do with this story and even more how she would fit this story into the Grimm Academy world.
The result is an original book that fits perfectly into the world and yet is also kinda original because the author deals with the same issues in a new and original way. In this story the heroine of the story, Aly, is not aware of the prophecy about her which really makes her a different kind of princess. It also makes her less afraid, less paranoid, less busy watching the signs and panicking when one little thing might kickstart the coming true of the prophecy.
It also leads to a story that is less about the romance and more about Aly figuring out what she actually wants with her life and how she wants to deal with everything that happens to her. Most of those things happening to Aly are of course elements of the original fairytale. Of course we have a genie fulfilling wishes, we have a thief pretending to be a princess and we have a prince slowly falling in love with her, while the truth is constantly looming over her shoulder.
And then there’s also the bad guy, clearly based on Jafar. I really love how that was the core of the story, how it was this character pushing Aly to tell the truth, how Aly eventually did make all the right choices and did realize what was really important. Since Aly is a lying thief at the start of the story, she’s also the Grimm Academy character who grows the most during her own story, although her kindness is already there from the start, which makes her still likable.
I was really happy with this tale and I can’t wait for the next book!
This was another cute romance set at Grimm academy. Good characters and a nod to the story of Aladdin.

In a way, this is the second time I’ve read this story since I read the shorter version in an anthology a few months back. I enjoyed the story then, but I really loved this expanded version. Aly and Envar make a cute couple with their sweet romance. The world of Grimm Academy is fascinating. And I love how all of the stories are interconnected. This is a fun gender swapped version for Aladdin.

I enjoyed this gender-reversed version of “Aladdin and the Magic Lamp”. Aly was a very sympathetic character;. There was nothing particularly lofty or world-changing about her motives, just a need for security and to be helpful. I think that of all the students the author introduced us to in this series, Aly is the one whom I could see myself being, just because. Good thing that Enver is able to see Aly for herself, not her trappings.
