I read the first 3 Windham books and loved them, but that was years ago. I’ve been hankering to continue with the series, and was lucky that I had all the books. I wasn’t sure of this one, as it stars a baby. I am not a baby person. Not a maternal bone in my body, except for dogs and cats. (Don’t judge me!) So how was it?
I loooooooooooooooooooved it! I even loved the baby! This was one incredibly sweet, sexy and just all around lovely book. Vim is now one of my favorite historic romance heroes. I just loved him….his interaction with the baby and Sophie was just heartwarming. I loved when they talked to Kit and referred to him as My Lord Baby.
I laughed and cried, and fell in love with this family and Grace Burrowes all over again.
Even if you’ve never read the other books in this series, Grace Burrowes makes it easy and you’ll have no problem getting to know all the characters involved in this Christmas wish. This is one of those books I pull out and reread every holiday season. It’s full of fun and love and happily-ever-afters.
Just one more fantastic book by Grace Burrowes – Loved it!!

4.5*
I loved this book! I’ve always really enjoyed Christmas/Holidays related books, and this one hit all the right spots.
Sophie is the sensible sister. She doesn’t give problems to anyone. So, when she decides to spend some time at Christmas with friends, her family doesn’t worry. But Sophie has a plan. She wants to spend some of her Christmas alone. But her plans get sidetracked when she is left stranded with someone else’s baby.
Queue Vim, our hero. I’ll admit right away, I love babies. I find them adorable, and I love holding them. And whenever I see someone who is good with a baby, I just feel happy. And Vim, well, he’s perfect with young Kit. How he helps Sophie without ever mocking her, or making feel like she’s doing something wrong, it’s just perfect.
I really enjoyed the relationship between both the hero and the heroine, and them with Kit. It was adorable, with our characters stuck due to a snow storm, learning about each other, and relating in a way they couldn’t with other people. Sometimes it’s just easier to talk to a stranger than someone who’s known you forever, right?
I also really liked hoe Sophie’s brothers didn’t try to decide for her, or just beat Vim. They understood that they were in love, but apparently there was some form of impediment, so they decided to do what they could to help them. Great brothers!
All in all, a great romance, with some steamy moments, very romantic, very adorable, and it just made me very happy.
What is the Lady’s Wish?
What a fun and different Christmas Regency romance! I don’t get to say that often. I love the parts of this book written from the hero’s point of view. He has a sarcastic (sometimes sardonic) and dry wit that shines through. And the poor abandoned baby, Kit! The author actually made him into an important character, often working as a catalyst between the hero and heroine in a very endearing way. I think it takes some skill as a writer to be able to make an infant such a well-rounded individual and a key element to the story. The hero and the heroine are waylaid because of a storm. They are strangers to each other, but the hero certainly has some mad skills with babies, especially compared to the heroine. His desire to help the lovely lady and abandoned baby is certainly sweet. Neither is telling the other who they truly are, but they’re forced time together certainly reveals other aspects of their characters. A delightful holiday Regency read.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Kit is Adorable and he really made it easy to connect with the H/h. I love when authors add children to their books. This was an enjoyable relaxing read with great interesting characters who were easy to like and connect with.
This book was a littles slow for me but at the same time I was very interested in the story and I didn’t want to put the book down until I was done reading it.
Sophie gives one of her maids and her baby a ride to a posting inn where the maid leaves her with her 6 month old son. Before Sophie realizes the baby is abandoned to her Vim offers to help her settle the babe and informs her he saw the mother duck out and is probably not coming back. Sophie has only every cared for abandoned animals and has no idea what to do so Vim again offers to help her. I love a man who is willing to love a child no matter whose it is.
I received this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
Love this author. I read all of her books
A special story of Christmas magic and wishes coming true when least expected. Lady Sophie, a duke’s daughter is the eldest of five sisters and also has five brothers. Can you imagine? How wonderful that would be… She is such a kind hearted soul who takes in strays and always supports everyone. Well this becomes her time when she finds herself left with a baby very unexpectedly. But to make it very special she has the aid of a terribly handsome gentleman who helps her once she figures out the baby’s mother is not coming back.
Enchanting, two people who do not really know who the other truly is, ie a duke’s daughter and he a baron but as they are stuck together during the snow. There is humor and sweet moments, building feelings for each other and shared memories, often painful and of course sweet Kit the baby who engages their common affection.
Get lost in this sweet story that will make you smile and sigh as you turn the pages. A definate keeper! I read this through NetGallery and the publisher.
This is a delightful holiday story from Grace Burrowes. Sophie is fiercely independent and just wants to be left alone. Unfortunately that is not to be. Vim is desperate to get his life straightened out. The two find themselves stuck together and coparenting a baby that belongs to neither. As they spend time together they find common ground and love. This author tells a story that draws in the reader. She uses familiar characters that always lets the reader feel like they are visiting with friends.
A sweet Christmas romance of two strangers getting snowed in, bonding over an orphaned baby and falling in love. I love this series and this is another great book in the series. This author is one of my favorites and I’ve loved every book I’ve read of hers.
I enjoyed this well-written historical romance. The development of the relationship between Sophie and Vim was sweet and enjoyable. All the characters were interesting and the story held my attention. I would recommend this book to others and look forward to reading more books by this author.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Lady Sophie’s Christmas Wish is book 1 in Grace Burrowes new series of the Windham family, The Duke’s Daughters. Available 9-24-19, it’s given me 3 books for my TBR pile. I liked Sophie’s brothers so much that I want to read their stories, it’s an interesting family. Although I enjoyed the characters, the plot seemed to stick in several places. I got a Men Are From Mars vibe. Our couple are both socially awkward and it makes for quite a few awkward scenes, I wanted to shake both of them till their teeth rattled. At least I was invested in their relationship.
Lady Sophie Windham is lonely, even in a crowd. She’d like a husband & children of her own but it has to be a love match. Mr. Right hasn’t come along and she’s given up hope. Now all she wants is a few days alone, no family, no servants, just her own company and thoughts. I can’t fault her for that. A maid runs off without her baby and it’s up to Sophie, there’s a snow storm & she’s stuck. Along comes Vim Charpentier, he’s stuck by the storm too, handsome, kind & knows about babies! They get to spend a couple of days together & never give away their titles, they’re just Vim & Sophie. For 2 people so right for each other they can’t seem to communicate. Superficial talk & baby lessons go fine but anything deeper is a mess. They, of course, get their HEA but it’s a miracle. By the end I was exasperated with these two knuckleheads.

This was a delightful read, it’s a little daring for the time period that it is set in but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It’s more of a fanciful magical Christmas romance story, of how Vim and Sophie just happened to be in the right place at the right time for them to meet and become involved, and while Sophie is unchaperoned the entire time of their involvement it just isn’t what would have been allowed and her brothers would definitely not have been so understanding about it all. I still very much enjoyed how the story played out as the writing was good and I liked both of the characters of Vim and Sophie. This being my first book to have read by this author I would definitely read something by them again in the future
Lady Sophie Windham has manoeuvred a few days to herself at the ducal mansion in London before she must join her family for Christmas in Kent. With his estate in ruins, Vim Charpentier sees little to feel festive about this Christmas. This is a re-release from 2011. Another well written page turning book, I love the Windhams, Sophie is on the shelf after a decade of seasons & is resigned to the fact. She has no idea what to do with baby Kit but luckily Vim is on hand to help. I love the interplay between Sophie, Vim & her brothers. I loved both Sophie & Vim , they were made for each other. My only quibble was the historical inaccuracies & the use of non English regency names
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Lady Sophia Windham has managed to arrange a few days to herself in London before joining her family at the ducal estate in Kent for the Christmas holidays. But her relaxation is lost when she finds herself snowed in with an abandoned baby and only an inconveniently handsome stranger to help her subvert disaster.
Vim Charpentier didn’t expect a relaxing holiday with his estate in apparent shambles, but he certainly didn’t expect a society miss or a baby to further complicate matters. Sophie is enjoying the anonymity of disregarding her title for the time being, but since she’s keeping secrets, and so is Vim, the impermanence of their domestic bliss rapidly becomes apparent. When Sophie’s brothers arrive to fetch her to the family seat for Christmas, both she and Vim have a lot of explaining to do.
First off, I enjoyed this story and it’s Christmas coziness. I loved Vim for the most part. He was fabulously sweet, even if he was entirely too determined to hold on to an old grudge that was rather over-dramatized. Sophie was likable in the beginning when she was being blunt in her interactions with Vim (apart from not telling him who she really was) and it was rather unbelievable for me that such a strong, capable character would let all that fly out the window the second her family arrived on scene and be quite content to just let the happiness she finally found slip through her fingers. Luckily Vim was more determined, even if she didn’t want to hear him out and cut him off repeatedly in his explanations. I enjoyed the secondary characters as well, though I must say they had a rather strange family dynamic. I felt like there was too much time spent on Sophie’s falling in love with the baby, rather than with Vim and that made the pacing feel off and slow for me, especially with the drawn out misunderstandings near the end.
Critiques aside, this was an enjoyable read and I’ll probably get around to the rest of the series at some point.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A terrible snow storm and an abandoned baby introduces Vim Carpentier to Lady Sophie. Vim knows about babies from his sisters, Sophie doesn’t have a clue. So what does a gentleman do but escort her to her home and help her take care of a baby. As all three grow closer, old hurts and insecurities make it hard to talk about love. When Sophie’s three brothers get involved the two lovers don’t stand a chance. Most of all will Sophie get her wishes? Wow, an amazing book! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Being Christmas time, Sophie has made a Christmas wish….to be loved for herself and not for her title or dowry. I love Christmas stories and this one is a very tender and delightful one. It involves an abandoned baby, Sophie who is a Duke’s daughter and Wim who is a Baron. Secrets are kept, decisions need to be made, past heartbreaks need to be addressed, falling in love was not expected and families need to stick together.
I have to say, I so enjoyed Sophie’s brothers, I could just picture all their antics and the way they talked to each other:) Lord Baby Kit is also absolutely precious!! Some readers might think the story went on too much about how to take care of a baby but it didn’t bother me.
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Lady Sophie’s Christmas Wish is a striking and noteworthy tale, brilliantly bringing together people whom should never have meet if not for an abandoned child in the eve of Christmas celebrations.
I know I’m rather new to Mrs Grace Burrowes world, but so far, I have not been disappointed, and this one story confirm her as an auto-but author for me. She crafts lively lovely tales about second chances, celebrating bonds of kinship.
Just a few lines in the book and I was sucked in. The opening pages were awesomely sweet and funny. I smiled and laughed at Kit obviously natural mischievousness.
I do loved his Lord Baby.
The main couple is a duet of very lovable characters, they are kind and caring and together they make the perfect item.
I can only praise how Mrs Burrowes slowly brought them together, from two perfect strangers to lovers willing to move create an already build-up family.
Sophie is the sensible one of ten siblings, a “smootherer”, she helps the others getting better, getting back on their steps. Why on the first thing, she finds herself with an abandoned child on her lap, unknowingly he is a partial answer to her longing.
Vim is back to the English soil, quite reluctant to go back to his family seat, and Lady Sophie’s predicament is the utter opportunity to delay his trip while enjoying the compagnie of a woman who awaken everything he thought deeply buried therein.
This was a story with multiple points of view, at first I confess it intrigued me then as the plot unfolded, it was the ideal approach for a Christmas tale, as it was cheering the narrative with the witty dialogues and banters between the side characters.
It was so fun to get a glimpse and even a bit more than that of the relatives from both sides.
I haven’t read any of the previous related books but I never felt lost at any moment.
It is a delightful romance which saw Sophie and Vim find their way to another but it is also a tribute to unconditional love, between siblings, lovers, parent to child, man and woman to an abandoned infant…
If you haven’t already read this wondrous story like me, don’t miss this re-release sets to brighten the last part of the year.
« “What did you wish, Sophie?” “I wished you were my Christmas, wished you could be all my Christmases.” »
I was granted an advance copy through Netgalley by the publisher Sourcebooks Casablanca, I purchased my own copy too. Here is my true and unbiased opinion.
Burrowes’ Christmas romances are such fun, and this one is lovely.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Sourcebook Casablanca Publishing via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This was a delightful tale. I really enjoyed the story of Wilhelm (Vim) and Sophia’s (Sophie) along with Baby Kit (My Lord Baby). Unfortunately this is the first story of the series that I have read. It was just a little confusing as to the order and circumstances of birth of all of Sophie’s siblings. Getting past that was easy if you just concentrate on the story though. There were scenes that had me laughing so hard and others were I couldn’t stop the tears. While I so enjoy an English historical told in the proper English way, I was extremely happy to be reading on an e-reader. There were terms that just eluded my comprehension but reading a historical romance is such an enjoyable way to learn.
I adored Vim and Sophie both. The way that they came together to care for Kit. Poor Kit, his mother abandons him to into her employer’s care the wonderful Lady Sophia. Neither Sophie or Vim use their title when introducing themselves at the inn where they meet during London’s worst snowstorm. This causes a great deal of mix-up between the characters and their intentions later!
I did enjoy the multiple POV format that the author used. Getting into the different characters’ mind really helped me to understand and enjoy them so much better.
There were some bedroom scenes that were not written in graphic detail but would be more appropriate for someone over 18. If you enjoy a good historical romance, you may enjoy this one. The only con for me, there were some places that just seemed a little unnecessary and added to the word count but it did not detract from the story.
