I purchased this as part of a bundle the author offered called THE MERRY MISFITS OF BATH: Books 1-3. The title of the bundle is misleading, because there is nothing Merry about the topics the women face.
There are some editing issues as others have stated, but it wasn’t enough to ruin the flow for me. I liked that the author included the blurb before the story. I always read the blurbs before I start a story and having it at the beginning was wonderful.
The H pulled himself up from the seedier side of London and became as self made man who owns a gambling house which is above board – no women allowed. He is attracted to the h but she holds herself back because she stutter’s. The H tries over and over to have her believe he isn’t bothered by it. The h had an awful experience with her sister in law and not judges everyone by that.
There is a sad topic about human trafficking, of course it isn’t called that. Women are being kidnapped and sold to brothels, sometimes by family members. The H helps the h find her friend who was sold to a brothel. Her story is the next in the series. The series can be read as a stand alone. As in most series, there are cross over character’s.
There is no lovemaking between our H/h, but one time the H gives the h pleasure. Heat level 2 out of 5.
There is funny banter and action between the H and his housekeeper who is strict with no hanky panky under her watch. I found this a nice touch with such serious topics
No cheating. No cliffhanger for our H/h but you will wonder what happened to the people who were involved in the brothel. That will be handled in the next story of the series. We do get HEA and romance. (ljb)

When I see a new book by Callie Hutton, I instantly know it will be a must read and she never lets me down! Her imperfect characters steal my heart and the heroine of this story Lady Pamela was no exception.
Excited to get to visit the Assembly Rooms in Bath with her friend Lottie and her escort, who had invited them. Almost immediately a gentleman approached them wanting an introduction and asked Pamela to dance! Unfortunately, her stuttering seemed to become worse around gentlemen so she was cautious. Nicholas Smith was smitten with her right from the start. He could tell she was self conscious about her stutter and seem very shy. But he was determined!
Nick himself had rising from the gutters and was not a successful businessman. Lady Pamela kept rejecting his suit when he visited but he would keep trying.
Then the adventure began, well more of a mystery and danger and Pamela asked Nick for his help. Be prepared to not be able to stop reading once you start because I could not wait to see what would happen! Simply perfect!
A shy beauty of a heroine, a seemingly dastardly rogue: these are perfect ingredients for a Regency romance if handled well, and Callie Hutton does far more than a mere “well” in Lady Pamela and the Gambler (The Merry Misfits of Bath Book 3). This is a delightful Regency romance which I’m happy to recommend to fans of romantic tales set in this Period.
The Merry Misfits of Bath is a group of friends who have, each for her own reason, fled London and society to make happier lives in Bath. Lady Pamela Manning is beautiful, kind, and musically talented. Despite this, her sister-in-law finds her an embarrassment to the family. Why? Lady Pamela stutters. Mr. Nicolas Smith has risen from nothing and a life on the streets when he was young to become a businessman and a gentleman. When they meet at an assembly dance, they are attracted to each other. Nick really wants to court Pamela, but she won’t make it easy. It doesn’t help that she is run over by a carriage when she stumbles onto a kidnapping ring. Off the two of them go to London to find her friend who they believe to be one of the kidnap victims. Will they rescue Pamela’s friend? Can Nick win Pamela’s heart?
This is a sweet romance and a captivating mystery with lots of drama, danger, love, and a cast of unforgettable characters. Nick and Pamela are a sweet couple and draw you into their story. Addie, Lottie, and their families have a part in the story, and Pamela’s friend Lizbeth joins the Misfit group. I enjoyed this story. I recommend it and the rest of the series.
An exciting conclusion to the “Merry Misfits of Bath”. If there is another book maybe it will be about the friend rescued from kidnapping. I love the way this story was written. Both the H and h were themselves, down-to-earth, honest and caring. They were mature, logical and their feelings, emotions and reactions were very realistic. This story is very romantic what the H goes through to help the h. A lovey story, full of suspicion, tension, danger, kidnapping, attempted murder and rescue of the kidnap victims. A must read. you will not be disappointed.
It was a perfect time to get away and slip into this one. You are also given a look at what Lady Pamela has ahead of her. Decisions! Decisions! that is the hurdle with also but also has some pluses. We are also given some mystery and intrigue in the old fashioned way which makes it more fun to crack. She also has to decide about Nicolas with can they be a team? We will be given a interesting story with wondering if the right decisions will occur. Being so involved in this while reading I fell for both characters wanting the ending to be what I wanted but turning the pages to see what actually came about.
Three years ago her brother’s wife wanted her out of the house, she sings beautifully, but she stutters it’s an embarrassment to them so Lady Pamela Manning moved to Bath. She’s decided the single life is for her she doesn’t want to be an embarrassment to her husband.
In Bath she’s found a home where she’s been teaching piano and voice lessons. Her friends invite her to a dance where she meets Mr. Nicolas Smith, the owner of an exclusive gambling club in Bath. Nicolas is immediately attracted to Lady Pamela, who is as skittish and uncertain of herself. Growing up on the streets Nicolas he’s unworthy of such a young woman, but he can’t stop himself he wants Pamela to be his, now to convince the lady. Nicolas feels once Lady Pamela is comfortable with him she will not be so nervous or prone to stuttering around him.
Lady Pamela’s concern grows when she feels something strange is going on in the boarding house where she lives. In three years she’s lived at the boarding house more than a dozen young woman have disappeared. She turns to Nick for help when she becomes afraid she has accidentally stumbled into a dangerous situation. I loved Pamela is a beautiful person inside and out, Nick has made her see herself as a different person, but Nicolas has his own demons to conquer, can they overcome their obstacles to find a love they both deserve and live HEA! An excellent story I loved and I voluntarily wrote a review.
This is the third book of The Merry Misfits of Bath series. Somehow I have missed the first two books but after reading this one, I have bought books one and two to catch up. I enjoyed this story immensely. The heroine and the hero were not perfect but they were real. Their struggles were real and their lives were relatable. Lady Pamela has a difficult time trusting others, even Nicholas, due to the pain of living with a speech impediment. Many of us have been hurt and can relate to the struggles Pamela feels inside about herself.
I don’t feel that I missed any part of the story by not reading books one or two previously. This is a well-written standalone story. It ends leaving this reader excited about book 4 and Lizbeth’s story. I am once again hooked on a series by Callie Hutton.
I received an advanced copy of this book by the author. I have also purchased the title because I enjoyed the story so much that I will enjoy it again and again. This is my unbiased and honest review.
Hutton tells the stories that need to be heard with a graceful heart and a hopeful spirit. Lady Pamela and the Gambler will open hearts to the people we tend to forget. Nicolas and Pamela are beautiful souls caught in a less than ideal situation. Pamela is so much more than the words she struggles to say. Nicolas has his own demons to conquer, but something about Pamela refuses to let him walk away. Amidst danger and prejudice, two loners find the strength to take a risk on the healing power of love. Hutton proves the power of words with a journey of hope.
This is the third book in this series and I had been waiting for it to come out. I enjoyed this book, I have been rooting for Pamela to get her HEA from the first book in this series. The plot moved along and i read it in two days (had to go to work or would have finished it in a day lol!). I have read quite a few of Callie Hutton’s books in different time periods. I love her writing.
A wonderful story with believable characters and more than a few plot twists. The layered plot keeps you firmly engaged from beginning to end, and the multi dimensional characters capture your heart. Thoughts provoking and entertaining.
I love the story of Pamela and Nicolas…
She is a sweet lady with a voice of angel and trouble with speech…
He was an orphan and lived in the street of London… Now he is the owner of a gambling club until he will find a new kind of aim… honorable man with a strong sense of justice…
Mysterious disappearance of some women who live in the same boarding house of Pamela…
Danger, mystery and love…
A story that you will love..
I loved this book so much, yes there was a mystery, but that wasn’t what captured my heart. It was the underlying message of never judge what you truly don’t know, nobody ever knows what lies beneath the surface, what someone has gone through in their life to get to where they are, it may seem like their life is charmed, easy or blessed, but one never knows what shaped them. Your past can form, but doesn’t define you, and you decide who you are, not your past, your circumstances, or your family. Nothing can hold you back but you, not even what some see as a disability, that isn’t who you are, you are more, so much more than the sum of your parts, more than a label, more than your past. The love story is so sweet, so achingly touching, you cannot help but fall for Pamela and Nick and see them for who they are at their hearts.
I loved them so much, loved the mystery, the way they came together, and the way Callie truly showed that the only person who defines you, is you
When her living situation at her brother’s London home becomes untenable, she leaves to settle in Bath, finding a comfortable room at a bording house and teaching music to young women to support herself. A stutter hinders her ability to comfortably meet new people and so she largely keeps to herself. With her two very dear friends, Addie and Lottie, and their families nearby, she is content to live as a social recluse, eskewing the traditional route of marriage and children. Therefore when the handsome Nicolas Smith makes his interest clear, she rejects him despite the attraction.
But when the strange goings-on at her boarding house begin to turn more sinister, she turns to him for help. As a young man raised on the streets, he is the best suited to protect her and help her get to the bottom of the situtation, but not without facing some danger along the way.
________________________________
Lady Pamela and the Gambler is the third book in Callie Hutton’s The Merry Misfits of Bath series. First and foremost, I must say that I was excited to hear that there will be at least two more books in this series! I had originally assumed that since the series was titled ‘The Merry Misfits of Bath’ that it would only have three books, which would tell the stories of the three ladies who originally called themselves by such a name. I hadn’t even contemplated the fact that their band of ‘misfits’ could expand in number, but I’m so glad that Hutton chose to do so.
I think Lady Pamela and the Gambler may have been my favorite in the series thus far. I love mystery and danger in my historical romance and this had the perfect blend. Unlike Addie and Lottie, Pamela bears the title of ‘Lady.’ She is a member of the nobility, of the ton, but through reading the first two books in the series we know almost nothing of her past and how she came to be living on her own in Bath and working for her living. Therefore I have been very curious of her past and desperate to know what had sent her running at the end ofThe Courtesan’s Daughter and the Gentleman.
I loved both main characters. I’m a little in love with Nick, which has been the case for me with all the men in this series. He built himself from nothing and hasn’t turned his back on those who helped him get to where he is now. Pamela is so sweet and I sympathized with her anxiety speaking to those whom she is not close with. How frustrating it must be to know what you want to say and yet struggle to express yourself with ease. I respected her for her bravery in both setting out to start a new life for herself in Bath and for continuing to dig deeper into such a dangerous situation to do what’s right.
I’m glad to think some woman were saved from such a life, but to think of how many don’t… As the situation is left partially unresolved, I hope this plotline will be explored more in future books.
There is one somewhat intimate scene between Pamela and Nick, but it is short. So if you aren’t interested in reading intimate scenes, you could very easily skip those couple pages.
You could read this book as a stand-alone, but I would recommend to read the series together, in order. All the characters are friends and make appearances in each book, so knowing their back stories makes their appearances more meaningful. I recommend Lady Pamela and the Gambler, as well as the rest of the series. Looking forward to readingThe Artist and the Rake next!

I would like to thank the author, Callie Hutton, for sharing an eARC ofLady Pamela and the Gambler with me for reviewing purposes. This is my honest review.
Lady Pamela Manning has happily made her home in Bath after several disastrous Seasons in London. Although she sings like an angel, Pamela cannot complete a full sentence without stuttering.
The life of a social recluse with two friends whom she adores is fine with her, and she easily dismisses the attentions of Mr. Nicolas Smith, the owner of an exclusive gambling club in Bath. However, something strange is going on in the boarding house where she lives, and she is afraid she has accidentally stumbled into a dangerous situation.
This is the third in the series, it could easily be read on its own but some events from earlier books do overlap. A well written book that flows effortlessly & strong characters made for a very entertaining read. I was drawn in from the start & engrossed until the end. I loved both Nicholas & Pamela, she had managed to forge a life for herself despite her affliction. He was a self made man who literally pulled himself up from the gutter. It was so lovely how he fell hard & fast for Pamela & was constant in his affections even though she held back. As well as a lovely romance there was the mystery surrounding Pamela’s lodging house. A captivating read & I’m so glad that there are more books to come
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Lady Pamela And The Gambler is a fantastic historical romance by Callie Hutton. Ms. Hutton has provided readers with a well-written book populated with a diverse but lovable cast of characters. Pamela makes her home in Bath after her sister tells her she’s an embarrassment because of her stutter. Nicholas owns a gambling club and is instantly smitten with Pamela. Nicholas and Pamela’s story is loaded with drama, humor, spice and action. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and look forward to my next book by Callie Hutton. Lady Pamela And The Gambler is book 3 of The Merry Misfits of Bath Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the third in Callie Hutton’s delightful Merry Misfits if Bath series. Lady Pamela is happy with her lot as spinster music teacher, that is until she meets Mr Nicholas Smith, self made man from the streets. We see early on in the story that Nick likes Pamela, but she is hesitant due to her stutter & how she’s been treated in the past, this however does not deter him. Add to this some drama, intrigue & missing women, we have a mystery and love story rolled into one great book. You don’t have to have read the others in the series to enjoy this book, though once you finish this you will want to. Well written, fabulous characters definitely recommend it.
Faced with a situation that is beyond her control, reclusive Lady Pamela opts to send for Nicholas Smith when her life is put in danger. The young lady who has been rejected by her family because of her stutter finds acceptance and even admiration from the guttersnipe turned business owner. The story is suspenseful as women go missing from the boarding house where Pamela has been staying, but reaching London once again opens up a whole new can of worms. Pamela cannot understand why Nicholas turns his back on her once their mission has been accomplished, but when the truth emerges, she finally discovers that she has more than enough strength and self-confidence to stand up for what she most wants in her life. The novel is a part of a series and as such characters from previous books appear in this one too, but it is nevertheless a standalone and comes to a joyful close. This romance is well written and engages the reader on a number of levels, leaving one with a warm glow. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

My review :
When facing danger, what is to do a young woman nearly alone if not to turn to the only man showing her an interest …
I was curious about Nicholas since he was introduced in the previous book, I love commoners stories.
He is a very successful man and he has every right to be proud of himself, he raised himself from the gutters and became the man he is now. And he is never one to refuses a challenge, thus he pursues Lady Pamela, when she runs away at every encounter. But nothing deters him, he has decided she is the one and only for him, and he will do everything to prove it to her. He is so very sure that never he sees himself as underserving her attention, he stands his head held high with confidence.
Why I was very unsettled by him reneging his own words by the end. So opposite of the true Nick, so out of his character.
Pamela is the shy girl branded by her stutter, why she avoids crowd and strangers. While she has everything to be proud of herself, she has been able to make a living for herself on her own despite her impairment.
I cheered her, wishing her to overcome her shyness and being a doormat to her relatives. And when around Nicholas she feels finally at ease, able to relax things come between them and she lets herself been caries by the wave.
I loved that at one point of the story Pamela found some backbone, and while she was right to lash out on Nick, it was well deserved, I would have loved her doing the same and more to her weak brother and his shrew of a wife.
I am very curious about the next to come in this series, as I wonder what has really arrived to Lizbeth, because for the ordeal she suffered, she looks quite okay instead of devastated and broken as she probably should be.
4.5 stars.
I was granted an advance copy by the author and prior to it had preordered my own ecopy.
