Lady Phoebe Winters is an independent wealthy young woman. She has never been one of the most popular amongst the “ton” because of her outspoken ways.
Now she has found a way to share her ideals with a wider audience of women.
Jeffrey Worthington , the Marquess of Berkley is responsible for his mother and four younger sisters, so when he overheard such outrageous ideas he has to let his feelings be known.
Our poor hero soon learns that men are not as much in control as they would like to believe.
A lovely light-hearted read that covers what was in those days a very serious subject.
Lots of giggles with our wonderful characters.
I’m looking forward to reading much more from this series.
The description of this book on book bub and amazon is not the same as as the actual story downloaded. Cast of characters and stories are completely different.
Wish I knew title of book about Phoebe Winters and Jeffery Worthington as it sounds most interesting to read.
Great book! Really enjoyed the characters and the creativity in the story.

Jeffrey & Phoebe’s first meeting ends with her slapping him, they disagree on so much but physically are strongly attracted to each other. I found Jeffrey to be very pompous & arrogant at the start of the book but the more I read the more I came to like him & found that he was open to change & willing to listen to different points of view. I loved Phoebe, a strong independent woman with decided opinions. In some ways the pair were like chalk & cheese, however the more they fell in love the more they were willing to see the others point of view, especially Jeffrey. Their burgeoning relationship was highly entertaining it had me laughing, sighing & welling up. The pace of the book was very good & I read it in well under a day as I found it to be an engrossing read. Another well written captivating read from the author & as it’s the start of a new series there are four sisters & four friends who I love to have their stories.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
The enchanting tale of an opinionated, liberated lady who publishes a newspaper in secret and the gentleman who fell in love with her just the way she was. This was an ARC from the author and my honest opinion
I loved Pheobe who didn’t care about standing up against the men of the ton even if it meant never getting married. Jeffrey tries to warn her about speaking her mind in order to help her since he has sisters of his own who drive him to distraction. This only incenses Pheobe. She is everything Jeffrey shouldn’t want but she is a refreshing change from all of the silly girls. But is he willing to let Pheobe be herself.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Phoebe is a wonderful character who is a women ahead of her time. Raised to be informed and competent and left with a sizable estate after both her parents death, she invest in a women’s publication. And the male hierarchy is not happy. But when her unexpected infatuation with a certain Earl caused her plenty of anxiety. But it only gets better when she finds out he’s been charged with the task of locating the publisher of her paper and to stop it. A delightful book!
A fantastic story full of surprises and funny moments.
A strong woman who knows what she wants from life … that women can express their opinion and not live just as men want…
A man sure of himself and of how society must be … rigid but kind and loving with his family …
An encounter / clash and nothing is as before … A love that will change everything?
I recommend this book to all that love Regency
Lord Jeffrey is the head of a rather rambunctious household, filled with five younger siblings, his mother, and a large overly friendly canine. Back when he was eighteen his father’s passing left him responsible all of them and he’s done a bang up job, even if he’s a bit stuffy and straight laced himself.
Lady Phoebe’s parents died a few years ago, leaving her an heiress who lives with a colorful elderly aunt who allows her much more freedom than most young women of her day. She’s not much interested in the events and mores of the ton and has distinct ideas on how things ‘should be’ rather than they how they are in reality. She and her three best friends are ahead of their time.
These two polar opposites meet at a ball, have an unexpectedly striking encounter, and thus their relationship and heated attraction begins. But, Phoebe has a secret. If she shares the secret not only could she become a pariah of society but she could lose this man she is coming to adore. Should she be honest with him?
A terrific story that I read from start to finish and couldn’t put down. It’s a delight with a group of colorful characters, witty banter, and decidedly heated romance. I certainly hope that Phoebe’s three best friends have adventures of their own, because I will definitely be looking for them.
This is a fantastic regency read. Lady Phoebe has dreams of getting her own paper going with the money she inherited. Jeffrey Worthington the Marquess of Berkley, and has always done things in a process. As the story processes both Lady Phoebe and Jeffrey Worthington the Marquess of Berkley, face many challenges. This Author has brought the Characters wonderfully as well as the surroundings. The story keeps you intwined a real page turner from the start to finish. Loved the read. And I highly recommend it.

The story centers around Lady Phoebe and her desire to publish a paper that is written by women for women and Jeffrey, the Marquess of Berkley, who is determined to find out who the publisher is. They meet and after a short time he finds that he is intrigued by Phoebe and those feelings continue to grow as time passes. There is a lot that happens in the story including a brother who wants to embarrass Jeffrey, finding a new location for the paper and finally the wedding. The story is well written, entertaining and a good read. I would highly recommend this book.
“Women have no ideas, except personal ones” Lady Phoebe Winters recited from an article in the paper. As the article continued it talked about ladies deficiencies that they depended upon men’s qualities! So the story starts and Phoebe decides there needs to be a paper written by a woman from the standpoint of women’s issues, so she does just that!!
Of course that does not go over too well with the gentlemen that the Woman’s Weekly is giving the women ideas! They set Jeffrey, the Marquess of Berkley on the trail to find out who the publisher is of the paper and put a stop to it.
What is ironic is he and Phoebe have met and he is really intrigued by her and his feelings for her grow as time goes by. But what will happen when he finds out it is she who is writing the articles and what will he do?
A really fun read that will keep you turning the pages and only looking for more in this series as the story ends. Well done and I definitely recommend!!
ONE EXCITING EXPERIENCE!!!
OMG! Oh, man. This is one exciting storyline, I was captivated from start to finish. Totally blew me away at the first paragraph, heck maybe even the first sentence. It has all the excitement you’d expect from Ellie with all the suspense and drama. It was smooth flowing with plenty of twists, turns and surprises to keep your attention. I was so immersed I couldn’t put it down. Not for a second. The scenes and characters were so detailed and the description related perfectly. They were so realistic I was biting my nails and tightenin my tummy when it got really serious. It played out so well it was like a flower opening up welcoming the sun. I know I probably say every time that this is the best book ever, but I’m going to say it again. Ellie continues to leave me in awe. She has such a gift with bringing her stories to life. My family constantly grows. Well, you know? The characters. They are so deeply and affectionately described that they feel like a part of my family. Ellie has done such a phenomenal job bringing this read to life and into mine. Fantastic job Ellie, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
Phoebe Winters and Jeffrey Worthington couldn’t be farther apart in their opinions about the rolls of women. Phoebe was raised different than most women, raised to have an opinion and a different point of view. Jeffrey was raised with the opinions of most men women are born to marry and have babies, it’s the way of the world. When Jeffrey and Phoebe have a conversation that does not go so well. Jeffrey is a little shocked at Phoebes ideals but also intrigued with her at the same time. This was a delightful story to read. I enjoyed the conversations that Phoebe and Jeffrey had. Phoebe is determined to change the point of view about women through her new publication and Jeffrey is determined to find out who is behind this new publication. I enjoyed reading this story and I think you will to.
Another entertaining read from Ellie St. Clair and I loved the book – the story was fun and different and the supporting cast of characters was wonderful, spirited, loving and faithful. Maxwell, the large, unruly mutt was hilarious, over zealous but added a lot to the humor and light hardheartedness of the book.
I will not outline the book but will tell you why I enjoyed it so much:
Lady Phoebe Winters parents died and she lives with a spinster aunt (her chaperon). Phoebe reads all the newspapers, periodicals etc. and finds herself getting more angry everyday because of the way women’s lives are being dictated to them by men. Her job is to stand up and fight for the women’s side to issues such as arranged marriages, handing over all their money and not having the ability to give their opinion to men.
Enter into Phoebe’s life, Jeffrey Worthington, the Marquess of Berkley, who has been responsible for 4 sisters, a brother and mother at a young age. He is handsome, honorable, serious, likes to have things around him in order and constant – even with 5 siblings that are always vexing him, demanding his time and attention. has held a position of responsibility since the death of his father at a young age. He is a man who enjoys the constancy of life. Despite the fact that his four sisters and younger brother are forever demanding his time and attention, his maintains order and control of all other aspects of life.
Phoebe (anonymously) starts a printing for women, The Women’s Weekly, which is written/staffed by all women and it starts a buzz among the nobility’s men and they want the printing stopped before things happen that cannot be fixed – the women made them nervous. Jeffrey is sent out to discover who the publisher is, where they work from and shut them down. All the fun starts now and Jeffrey and Phoebe lock horns from the beginning, his mother and sisters are on her side, Maxwell, his dog loves her – what will happen?
I was gifted this ARC and I am so happy to be able to recommend the read to you. If you love close family, love, respect, understanding, goofy dogs, touching moments and a HEA – you’ll love this book!
