I was advised to read this before I started the Age of Conquest Series and I’m so glad I did! I loved Rhiannyn and Marcus’ story. The best part for me was the (literal) connection she made between them. By being forced to coexist each learned about the other and it became the groundwork for a ‘faeger’ (beautiful) love story. Once again, well done Tamara!
English history shortly after the Battle of Hastings. Norman and Saxon who conquered who.
I purchased this novel earlier in 2019 and finally got around to reading it now. I am not a Medieval romance reader and this novel did not convert me. For me this story was long and at times too much. However the historical information given regarding the Norman-Saxon Wars was interesting. I did learn more about the style of dress during the 11th century. The writing was excellent and solid. Although the historical information and some of the action in the novel kept me reading to the end, it was a novel I could sit down and not think about for a bit. BLURB: Rhiannyn is the pawn to be used by the men leading the Norman-Saxon Wars. Three of them have some sort of affection for her and the fourth is only interested in own personal gain. However after being the sole witness to the murder of one of her admirers, Norman knight Thomas Pendry, Rhiannyn becomes the prisoner of his vengeful brother, Maxen Pendry. Maxen is a emotionally tortured soldier that has tried to find redemption through solitude of the monastery, however the death of his brother takes him away from that place of security. In the meantime, Rhiannyn’s third admirer, Edwin, the Saxon rebel leader, is focused on winning back the lands the Normans and Pendry’s took from him and his people. Through it all King William is mainly concerned with his own selfish interest and self-esteem issues as he leads battle after battle to make the Saxon people kneel before him. Through all the muck, blood and mire of war, true honest love is found.
A very long book. I liked how the story developed and the characters changed. The way things ended was happy for some, not for others but best for all. Which I thought was pretty neat.
I love these books! They are so awesome! It gives you a real look into history with a beautiful love story as well.
I like Tamara’s writing. If I would have to give this a blurp to compare it to the others this would be more sensual and adult. Most of Tamera’s books deal with mid evil times when a woman was property and a man was a warrior. I love this sort of story, it just makes me sigh. This is the story of Rhiannon mostly, the poor girl gets drug threw the wringer. The gets beat, drug around, imprisoned, everyone thinks awful things about her and threw it all she keeps her chin up. The story was not depressing and moved at a great pace. The writing is well done. This has a lot of talk of sex. It is very sensual. There are some fade to black sex scenes that are not too detailed but over all it is a main theme of this book.
This book is a great backstory to Merciless and Fearless. I am a big Cyr D’argent fan but Maxen Pendry is a really swoon-worthy hero. His counter/love interest is equally up to the task of spunky heroine with a quick comeback. Thoroughly enjoyed this book.
This is another of Ms. Leigh’s wonderful, sweeping, historical romances set in the early medieval period in England. If I’m to be precise, in 1068, two years after the Battle of Hastings, and to which the Anglo-Saxon people are still unreconciled. Enter a brawny Norman lord, and a lovely Saxon lady bent on escape, throw in a dagger (literally) , and the story begins. It was wonderful! The tension was electric: I wanted a cigarette! LOL! (I’m 60: quit smoking when I was pregnant with my first child. That’s how good this is!)
I always enjoy Tamara Leigh’s books set in this period. Her characters are always so brilliantly fleshed out that it seems as if one knows them personally. The locations are also well drawn, as well as the historical characters who show up from time to time. And believe me, I check my authors if something reads as inaccurate It’s also available on Audible, which I downloaded and used for part of my “reading experience”, and it was very enjoyable. The actress who read had a pleasant voice that was soothing to listen to while I had a headache. . I give it five stars.
Such an incredible journey with beautiful characters that you come to think of as friends and family (never mind that they are fictional) that I just couldn’t put down and was happy, yet wistful when it ended.
Worth the time to read.
I LOVED this book! The cynic in me kept waiting for the characters to disappoint, but they never did. It was like reading a thousand satisfying ‘happily-ever-afters’.
Nice clean novel. Well written, hard to put down.
I enjoyed it! Good beach book!
Enjoyable story with just enough action.
Well written, intelligent story. Thoroughly enjoyed it and the thoughtful characters.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
This book weaves history and romance into an unforgettable tale. The characters make history come alive. I could not put it down.
