In Lady Justice And The Sting, a holistic physician is murdered and Walt becomes entangled in the high-powered world of pharmaceutical giants and corrupt politicians.
The Kansas City Police Department and the FBI join forces and Walt goes undercover in a ‘sting’ operation in order to expose those involved in this tangled web of intrigue, and in doing so, becomes the target of a vicious assassin.
… assassin.
Maggie, Ox, Willie, Mary and all your favorite characters are back to help Walt bring the criminals to justice in the most unorthodox ways.
Another dead-serious mystery with hilarious twists.

LADY JUSTICE AND THE STING, published in 2011, is as relevant today in 2020 as when it was written. Corporate and government corruption is a fact of American life, corruption is all about money… B I G money.
Walt and Maggie have made it into their renovated apartment where Maggie begins to slowly overhaul Walt’s health with an holistic approach. This may seem a tiny little domestic bit of trivia, but Robert Thornhill puts no fat in his books. Everything is pertinent to the solving of the crime under investigation. I think it is part of the reason for the fulsomeness of these tales.
I find it a sad state of affairs when I come across a person who feels that reading fiction is a waste of time. What can you learn from reading fiction? You can learn actual facts about any number of things. You can also learn those intangibles of human nature. How do you know when you’ve found an actual fact? That’s easier today than it was at the end of the 20th century… there is Google. Just use it.
There were several points of fact made regarding the FDA:
“In order to protect the profits of the drug industry, the FDA passed the most incredibly insane “law” of all time. The FDA has now made as “law” the following statement; “Only a drug can cure, prevent or treat a disease.” This is insane.””
The FDA did, in fact institute this rule. I believe that Robert Thornhill has put the word law in quotes to differentiate these rules (that are often treated as laws) from actual laws enacted by the only body in our government given this duty by the Constitution… the Congress. The rule was meant to prevent holistic treatment from becoming “prescribed” by doctors.
“FDA has recently given approval to one company (Reliant Pharmaceuticals) to sell their particular fish oil product (Lovaza) as a prescription drug to lower triglycerides. Keep in mind that the FDA was careful about not approving or admitting that all quality fish oil supplements could successfully lower triglycerides, but only one product.”
Lovaza is fish oil that can be purchased over the counter at any number of retail outlets for far lower consumer cost. It was given FDA approval on November 10, 2004. How do I know this? I googled it!
Although this book was published in 2011, it is pertinent to this moment as we move closer and closer to the 2020 Presidential Election. Do we allow federal agencies to add and subtract rules with every administration change, or do we demand that Congress pass laws to which these agencies must adhere?
LADY JUSTICE AND THE STING is a fast-paced read that will make you laugh while it makes you think.
A fantastic addition to the series Walt and his partner are one case with the mystery. Plus there is great humor. This is a real page Turner that definitely keeps you captivated. I definitely recommend.

The 5th installment of Lady Justice didn’t have as much humor in it but there were still some laughs and overall Lady Jutice & the Sting was quite interesting.
Walt & friends go after a big pharmaceutical company, with friends in high places, that is killing people not only with their drug but also hiring a hitman to eliminate those who have done a thorough study of the effects this dangerous drug has on those using it before they publish the findings.
This is a work of fiction but I feel it is based on fact! Mr. Thornhill has a real talent for writing a balanced and fair story on subjects of importance!
This review is for the audio book.
I enjoyed this book. I like the characters but thought this book was more serious than the previous books, not sure if that was just the subject matter or if the crazy gang was a bit more quieter (Jerry the joker still found the time for a few jokes) I missed Vince and Willy who both only played a small roll in the book. Don’t get me wrong I did enjoy the book and I did laugh I just missed the gangs involvement. Although as I am trying to think what to write I keep thinking of funny situations that happened in the book that had nothing to do with the case but still made me laugh, so maybe they played a bigger part than I first thought.
When a doctor and nurse are murdered everybody thinks it is drug related expect 67 year old rookie cop Walter Williams. When his doctor calls him with information on the murder Walter finds himself living out a fantasy of his, of directing his very own sting operation any move star would jump at chance to star in and at the same time taking down a corrupt system . That’s one more thing ticked off his bucket list if only the corrupt company hadn’t hired a hit man.
I like the narrator as he sounds just right for the part.
I know this story is fiction, but I will definitely be doing some research on what I eat and medications I take after reading this. I love this group of characters and how realistic everything in this series can be. I can’t wait to dive into the next!
Robert Thornhill has done it again… combining murder, mystery, suspense, and a big dose of humor. I am really loving this Lady Justice series!
George Kuch’s performance is absolute genius. I can’t imagine any other voice for Walt.

Once again a great next book in this series. They just keep getting better and better. Can’t wait for the next in the series.
cozy-mystery, law-enforcement, relationships, assassins, humor, greed, suspense
This time Walt, the department, friends, the FBI, and the medical community become involved in the shady dealings of greedy Big Pharma. The physician’s oath demands “First do no harm”, but that is not true for the business of pharmaceuticals. The murderous aspects of the book are fictional, but the political and economic aspects are all too true. A professional assassin is in town to stop publication of a study damning a highly profitable pharmaceutical. He is somewhat successful, but is stymied by fate and the efforts of the department and FBI as they work together to follow the money. There are scary incidents, all kinds of humor, and learning opportunities included in this excellent mystery!
George Kuch continues to be the perfect match for the audiobook!
Audiobook review: Lady Justice and the Sting is a story after one of my oldest pet peeves, pharmaceuticals vs. natural remedies. This fictional story represents reality quite well! Absolutely love the characters in this story. They’re believable, likable, and support ideal justice. The narrator did a good job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
