In Lady Justice And Dr. Death, a series of terminally ill patients are found dead under circumstances that point to a new Dr. Death practicing euthanasia in the Kansas City area.
Walt and his entourage of scrappy seniors are dragged into the ‘right-to-die-with-dignity’ controversy.
The mystery provides a light-hearted look at this explosive topic and death in general.
You may see end-of-life … end-of-life issues in a whole new light after reading Lady Justice And Dr. Death.

Walt and the gang are back… the perfect group to deal with the hot topic of assisted suicide. In between all the humorous antics, there’s actually a serious topic, and Robert Thornhill does a fantastic job of pulling it all together. I really love how I can be pulled into serious thoughts one moment, and giggling like a school girl the next.
George Kuch is a true gem. His portrayal of each of the characters is exactly as I would imagine them being. A top notch narrator!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
An exciting 6th story in the Lady Justice series. There is a new Dr. Death in town and although Walt isn’t sure how he feels on the subject of euthanasia he is a cop & must uphold the law. He goes undercover to catch this guy but his cover is blown and Dr. Death disappears. We find out later how Walt’s cover is blown. A thought provoking look at the subject of mercy killings.
As usual there is humor in the pages of this book but also a couple of surprise twists.
Also, Walt is again working with the FBI on an FDA sting which puts his life in serious jeopardy.
This series just gets better as it goes!
There are currently 43 books in this series, LADY JUSTICE AND DR. DEATH is number 6. Technically, one might say that these are standalones… at least the ones I’ve read so far. There are no cliffhangers. Series such as this one may give closure at the end of each story, but that doesn’t mean that they should be read willy nilly. I find that I get hooked on a series more for the backstory, the tale of the characters’ lives, than on the whodunit a particular book sets out to solve. Robert Thornhill does a bang up job of letting you know what happened in previous books, but you definitely miss out on some great character building and humor if you haven’t read them.
When I read the first book (LADY JUSTICE TAKES A C.R.A.P) I liked Walt Williams. He seemed like a good guy who genuinely wanted to help people. His circle of friends was varied, and he treated each and every one of them with love and respect. (Over the past 4 years, those qualities have become increasingly important to me personally.) With each book that I read, I found myself liking him more and more. His sense of decency and justice comports with my own.
As you have probably determined from the title, this is a Jack Kevorkian tale with all the divisive baggage the topic carries. Like Walt, I am not a particularly religious person, but Walt has Pastor Bob. Unlike Walt, I have no outside the fold pastor to consult on fraught with controversy issues such as this.
Once again, a lot of story is contained between the covers of LADY JUSTICE AND DR. DEATH. I don’t do spoilers, but I will say that you definitely ought to read the preceding volume (LADY JUSTICE AND THE STING) before reading this one.
This is a fantastic mystery series that has me intrigued. I love books like this that I can put the puzzle together as I listen. The Author and Narrator have done a fantastic job. I definitely recommend

I enjoyed this book. It was very thought provoking, as well as funny. The characters are so much fun, I can’t imagine another character (or author) making you think about moral dilemmas such as life and death one moment and then bust out laughing the next.
68 year old rookie cop Walt Williams has a big choice on his hands when he goes up against a doctor of death. It seems someone in his city is helping the dying to go out at a time of there choosing and with dignity, the only problem is assisted suicide is against the law and it is Walt and his partner Ox’s job to catch him. When an undercover sting, where yes you guessed it Walt get to have fun dressing up, goes wrong things get complicated as it sparks a string of copy cat murders, where the victims are all elderly. It’s a good job Walt knows some seniors up to the task of going under cover, He just has to make sure that it doesn’t cost them there lives, as he has the unfortunate job of being all of there end of life advocates.
I like the narrator. Although I am not to sure of his singing voice but don’t let that put you off it isn’t much or for to long.
I absolutely love this group of characters and love the way every book in this series so far has me thinking about subjects I may not have taken the time to think about before. I can’t wait to see what Robert Thornhill has for me to contemplate next!
Sometimes a series gets a little bit old but not this one. I enjoyed this book very much. Both the story and the narrator did a wonderful job. On to book #7.
law-enforcement, humor, human-rights, series
This is a hard review for me to write without promoting the view that I share with so many experienced nurses and other care givers. The book is excellent, a wake up call to most people, suspenseful, and full of humor. The publisher’s blurb gives you the basics, and there is no need for spoilers, but the issue of death with dignity when there is no real medical hope is handled with great sensitivity and clarity.

Mr. Thornhill does it again by bringing to life a controversial subject in the fictional world of officer Walt Williams and highlighting both sides of the figurative coin. The cast address their own mortality concerns with their usual comedic humor that left me wanting more. The mystery of “Dr. Death” was interesting and well written. The narrator did a great job!
I started reading this series and have read 12 so far. I am looking forward to reading all.
