After their father dies, the penniless Langley sisters begin a dangerous double life to support themselves: Well-bred ladies by day, they partake in a scandalous charade at night. Be swept away by the romance, intrigue, unconventional heroines, and dashing heroes, in this bestselling regency romance series from Wendy Vella. Miss Phoebe Langley doesn’t fit into society. She’s willful and … and outspoken. Oh, and not only is she in business, she once earned her living as a highwayman. Not the type of scandalous behavior appropriate for a debutante. She shouldn’t care what people think about her, especially the stuffy Marquess Finneous Levermarch, but she does, and even worse, she soon realizes she has feelings for him.

Cute story that continues about the sisters. Classic romance story with a strong female character. The story is a little steamy and sexy.
Finneous, Marquess of Levermarch, has a list of traits he wants in a wife. Miss Phoebe Langley doesn’t have them. Honest, out spoken, always into mischief, but she’s beautiful and luscious. Finn always feels out of control when he’s around her. There is nothing like their zingers.
A Marquess that has to be in control and a young lady that disrupts his life, can love be far behind. Very clever, very funny and very entertaining.
Great storyline across the three books, I loved the sisters connection.
I don’t know where to start…if you’re not a fan of bodice rippers, passing this up won’t be difficult for you. If you do like bodice rippers, you should stop reading because you won’t like what I have to say.
While this wasn’t the worst Regency romance I’ve ever read, it was far from good. Right off the bat, the protagonist, Phoebe, is a 21st century woman living in the 19th century, flouting all society’s norms and conventions. She meets her best friend at a ball, and she’s just as bad as Phoebe, even going so far as to use the term “totally obnoxious” when describing someone. Our hero, Finn, is a cardboard cutout of an alpha male. The worse crime however, is Vella has decided his full name is Finneous. Yup, Finneous. The pair go on a love/hate relationship which, towards the end, has Finn 1/2 way undresses Phoebe and gets REALLY intimate on top of a table at a society ball, with the door to the room wide open. At one point Phoebe “cries out” his name and I’m sorry folks, those manner houses echo. I’m pretty sure those near that door knew what was going on and that alone would have ruined her reputation.
Overall, the characters are not well developed, the secondary characters are mere paper dolls, and the tertiary characters might as well be rice paper. The social norms and etiquette of the time has not been researched, and it shows, much to the detriment of this novel.
The only good thing I can say about this is that it let me delete the other 10 Vella novels on my Kindle.
So I enjoyed this Kindle Unlimited book, but I’m starting to see a rather annoying trend. Rather than bring criminals to justice, the people in this novel just sweep things under the rug to avoid scandal. Their wretched cousin who killed two girls got off scott-free. The person who pushed Phoebe down the stairs gets to hide in the country with the option to push other unsuspecting people down the stairs. I did really enjoy the rest of this novel though! Phoebe and Finn are a lot of fun! I love the Worrell family, and I am hoping that we are going to get more time with them! But I think the best part of this story is the business that Hannah, Phoebe, and Alex open. Women owning a business is pretty unusual, but you have to love the improbable cuteness of all those men supporting their female family members’ dreams!
Lady In Demand is a wonderful historical romance by Wendy Vella. Ms. Vella has once again impressed me with her storytelling abilities and smooth writing. The characters are totally awesome and just plain lovable. Phoebe is a debutante but also has a mind of her own and is a little outspoken. Finn is a Marquess and is looking for a bride, a meek and quiet bride. Finn and Phoebe’s story is loaded with drama, humor and spice. I enjoyed reading Lady In Demand and look forward to my next book by Wendy Vella. Lady In Demand is book 2 of The Langley Sisters but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
Good story. Real page turner. Read it quickly!
This is the second book in the series. Enjoyed it the interconnections between book one and book two.
I love this series, the woman are strong and formative without being unladylike and the men are wonderful with just enough of a tender side to make them great to read about.
Enjoyed store, charter. Fast read, I read more in the series.
Great classic love story. I like this series and the characters. Love and romance is throughout the book.
Really good story!!
I have read all the books in this series and they were all entertaining and easy to read. In fact I recently read them all again. Love the way this author spins her stories.
This was a fun, easy read. The characters were believable and the plot was good. I recommend the series.
I enjoy all of Wendy Vella’s books. Her family dynamics are rare for the style and time period in which she writes, which makes her stories different and enjoyable.
Love all of Wendy Bella’s stories! Well developed characters and story lines with strong men & women. It’s easy to be drawn into the characters’ lives and imagine yourself as part of their lives. Each story is like a box of chocolates with zero calories — delicious and indulgent.
An easy and enjoyable read. Sexy but not over done.
The story was childish, the plot laughable and poorly written. After half an hour of reading I stopped and deleted it from my iPad. Extreme editing by a professional might help.
Really liked it I have been reading all of her books that I can get.
This whole series leaves you wanting more.
