When Ashton discovers he has inherited a planation in Barbados, he sets sail for the Caribbean and places hope in finding a solution to the threat of looming bankruptcy and a stint in debtor’s prison. What he finds is Lady Hannah, the lovely young woman who had gained his attention in London. Unable to resist her allure, he courts the lady in paradise. But troubles have a way of following a man, and Ashton is in danger of losing his freedom as well as Lady Hannah.
What both Danby and Ashton have both failed to take into consideration, however, is that Lady Hannah does not like being told what she can and can’t have, or in this case, who.

Loved Hannah and Ashton! The story started out good, and really built to a wonderful ending, with secrets and surprises along the way. Beautiful romance. Sure hope there’s more coming in the Spirited Storms!
Danby novels are some of my favorite. The Duke of Danby wants to orchestrate the marriages off all his grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and probably anyone else he can get his hands on. Lady Hannah Storm is summoned to the castle but is told she will be traveling to Barbados as a companion. Will she defy the Duke and marry the an of her dreams who happens to be in Barbados as well.
Ashton Grell, the Marquess of Wingate is also summoned to the castle for Christmas. He decides to visit his estate on Barbados instead. This was such a delightful read. I loved the characters and the unexpected twist and turns. A very delightful read.
Hannah and Ashton end up at the same holiday house party – Hannah to escape the matchmaking efforts of her Uncle, and Ashton for a little breathing and thinking room away from his troubles. Though their families have been at odds for years, and Ashton has inherited a debt-ridden title and estate, there is immediate attraction. I received an ARC of this book.

Ashton Grell is unprepared to become the Marquis of Wingate when his father’s unexpected death forces the title upon him, along with crippling debt. What refreshing change to get away from the ballrooms of Mayfair to the beaches & sun of Barbados. I loved both Ashton & Hannah, he’s struggling with the marquisate as more debts are uncovered but something is amiss with he plantation & he means to get to the bottom of it. Ashton won’t pursue Hannah until his debts are clear. Hannah is a feisty, determined woman who hates being told what to do. I loved how their relationship developed & how Danby managed to interfere even though he was thousands of miles away. It was also great to catch up with some characters from earlier books
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
A maneuvering matchmaker, the Duke of Danby, summons Lady Hannah to Danby Castle. Worried that he is going to force her to wed a man he has chosen, she is relieved when he wants her to act as companion to his friend Lady Whitley who is travelling to Barbados. She can stay with her brother for the holidays and come back in the spring. That is when he will help her find a match.
Hannah is relieved to get a respite she can only think of Ashton Grell, the only man she has held a tendre’.
As luck would have it (or is there a fate fairy in the mix?), Ashton, the new Marquess of Wingate, has inherited an estate that is almost bankrupt, he finds out there is a plantation in Barbados he might can sell. Unfortunately, everything is not as he hoped but he does meet up with Hannah. He knows he really is not in any position to be a suitor, the do spend time together and it seems maybe all could work out!
That of course is when the journey gets rocky and several things occur unexpectedly. Can they find true love or will they be pulled apart? Adventure, secrets and a love that may be destined bring this story full circle to a very satisfying end!
Lady Hannah’s Holiday is book five in the Spirited Storms series by Jane Charles. I have really enjoyed this series and I was looking forward to reading this book. It didn’t disappoint. Hannah Storm has had a secret crush on Ashton Grell, the Marquess of Wingate. When she is sent to the lush island of Barbados, Hannah is delighted to find Ashton there looking over his sugar plantation. But when circumstances arise that hinder them from ever being together, Hannah is crushed. I thought that this story was well written. I enjoyed that it took place in an island setting instead of the ballrooms of London. I thought that it dragged a bit in the middle. But I liked the twists and turns in the plot that I didn’t see coming. I was given a copy of this book.
Interesting Setting 3.5*
Set in Barbados, Hannah and Ashton meet again, much to their secret delight. They had met the previous season and liked each other but Hannah’s mother, a formidable matron who wanted her family to live near to her, had put obstacles in their way to furthering their acquaintance. However their courtship is far from plain sailing. I liked but didn’t love this book.
Having not read the other books in this series, I did sometimes have trouble in remembering who was related to whom, particularly when titles were used sometimes and names at others. I therefore feel that readers would do well to read these books in order of publication.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
