Every time a read a book by this author I think she can surely not write a better one. But she always surprises me and makes me fall in love with her heroes and heroines! Her writing is just magical and her stories never fail to wrap around my heart!
Lord and Lady Danbury’s Christmas House Party
“Lord Darlington?” Rose blinked in surprise as she opened the door, wondering if her eyes deceived her. “Have you been drinking My Lord?” A ridiculous question as the fumes of alcohol rolled off of him in waves.
Thus the adventure began and what a wonderful journey they take to find happiness. Rose had been raised with gentility, but her father had gambled away everything and she was forced to become a lady’s maid to her friend Pen who had just become Lady Danbury.
Rome, Viscount Darlington, seemed all that was good in a man. Rose thought he was handsome and “really too perfect for words.” The attraction between them cannot be denied, but she is a maid and he is a Viscount? What can come of that?
I fell in love with Rose and Rome and as I turned the last page I could only smile and know I would read this book again!
Annabelle Anders never lets her fans down !
This newest book in the series LORD LOVE A LADY, is no exception !
Follow Roman and Rose on their journey to a HEA with all the ups and downs, laughter with some self reflective moments ( have we not ourselves, been our own judge jury and executioner?)and heart string pulls, as these two discover that appearances and self -made assumptions are not necessarily truths.
I adore this authors books and have had the privilege of reading a few of her books , and ANNABELLE ANDERS just has a knack of grabbing your attention and keeping it during the flip of pages.LADY BE GOOD is another addition to her credit and an author you should read.
I highly reccommend this ( or any of her books) to my fellow readers of Regencey Romance. If you are new to this author, or an avid fan ,you won’t be disappointed!
***I recieved this work in ARC format and this is my opinion given freely ***Annabelle Anders
Ursula Rosamond Waring is a lady’s maid––albeit an educated, opinionated, hard headed and impetuous one. She wasn’t always meant to be a maid bt when her father gambled away all their money she was lucky enough to become maid to her best friend Penelope
Roman Spencer stands to become one of England’s most powerful earls. Sober and responsible, Viscount Darlington holds honour and duty above all else. Then a rumour starts to circulate.
Stumbling upon one another at a Christmas House Party, the mismatched couple struggles to douse the smouldering attraction threatening to ignite between them.
This is the fifth book in the series & it could be read on its own but to fully appreciate it I’d recommend reading the whole series – which is brilliant. If you love historical romances or just romances then I highly recommend the author, her books are well written, contain lots of humour as well romances that melt your heart & this is no exception. I loved Rome & Rose who’s attraction sizzled but the obstacles thrown in their way made the road to their HEA heartbreaking at times. The characters are well developed & on the whole likeable although there were two characters I could have cheerfully strangled, one of them in a ballroom too. Another unputdownable read.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Starring Ursula Rosamond “Rose” Waring and Roman “Rome” Spencer, Viscount Darlington. Maid/Companion and a Peer… forbidden love trope.
I love how this book started… I laughed so hard in the first few chapters. “She thought he was a Molly”…. which had me looking up the origin of that phrase… which sent me on a fascinating rabbit hole… but I digress.
Rose is stuck between worlds. She was born a gentleman’s daughter, but after her father gambled away their fortune, she was forced into service. In order to save Rose from a life in Scotland, being a companion to an elderly aunt, Rose’s best friend, Penelope (from Lady at Last), turns Rose into her lady’s maid. Because of who she is and her importance to her employer, Rose is not accepted amongst the servants… but she’s also not accepted or part of society either. Rose is a strong heroine and also a little vulnerable. She’s always on the outside looking in. And my heart totally hurt for her. She’s also twice shy when it comes to love. So even though our hero starts showing genuine interest in her, her past experiences won’t allow her to trust him completely… and her preconceived notions that they’re worlds apart keeps her from giving her heart to him completely.
Rome is a very proper lord. Past experiences have taught him that certain actions have consequences, so he tends to walk on the straight and narrow side. He knows it’s high time for him to settle down. More importantly now, since someone is set out on destroying his reputation… and a wife or a betrothal would quickly solve his problems. But he’s distracted by his attraction to this lady’s maid… who he sees as a lady. Rome wears his heart on his sleeve and he truly feels a connection with Rose… and he can be himself around her. Even comfortable enough to talk to her about his past mistakes and is genuinely appreciative of her sound advices.
I loved Rose and Rome… together they made such a wonderful couple. They had a lot of issues that they had to iron out, but I totally cheered and bawled when they reached their HEA. I also loved the in jokes between Rose and Rome…that they were always trying to sweeten each other up with sugar and chocolates.
Once again, a fantastic read from the amazing Annabelle Anders. Another reason why she’s one of my “keeper shelf” authors.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily reviewed it and the comments are 100% my own.
My Star System:
5 stars: Ugly cried AF… major book hangover… characters were amazing… made me wanna hug the author for writing a book that gave me all the feels!! Will be re-reading this story over and over and over again!!
You can always count on the fact that Annabelle Anders will present her readers with a story that will leave you all warm & happy but getting there is always an exciting trip of ups & downs. The main characters in this story were full of all you want a hero & heroine to be.
Roman “Rome” Spencer, Viscount Darlington is handsome, he stands to become one of England’s most powerful Earls, kind, honorable, serious & responsible. He hadn’t always be so – he was rakish, fun, he had a son out of wedlock that was being raised by the mother’s parents & they all had passed on & now he needs to bring his teen son back home where only a few know about the boy & will have to find a way to educate & gain acceptance in society. The newest problem he has, through no fault of his own is since his betrothal was called off last year, he is rumored to be a Molly………..
Miss Ursula Rosamond “Rose or Rosie” Waring, a daughter of a third son of a baronet, was educated & went to school with other gently bred girls & that is where she met her best friend Penelope. Her father had gambled their money, assets away on one turn of a card & at age 15, instead of being sent to be a companion to an older aunt, she chose to become Penelope’s lady’s maid (after Pen had begged her to do it). And so she went from a Miss to a maid to her best friend & now Penelope was married to Lord Danbury & they have children.
Rosie has been around Rome for years & because Pen sharing everything with her, she knows a lot about him. But when he shows up at her chamber door drunk, well the fun begins. The twists & turns to discovering feelings for each other, the decisions on two different classes, reputations of other family members being damaged, denying their feelings, being honorable are just a few of the things they went through to finally obtain their HEA.
I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given
Rose and Rome’s story draws you into their world and makes you feel the societal boundaries that keep everyone pinned to their place in society. Annabelle Anders gives the reader a feel for what it must have been like to see the life you want, but not be able to live it. Rose is a lady’s maid but wants to be a lady. Rome has to marry, but he doesn’t want a Society miss…he wants her! The pathway to get there is fraught with problems–including, many of their own makings. Just when I thought I had this book ‘figured out,’ plot twists showed me I had not. I recommend–it’s a great rainy day read!
Ms. Annabelle couldn’t write a bad book if she tried!! We met Rose in the previous book as a lady’s maid to Penelope. Having been raised to be a gentlewoman and accepted a servant’s position to avoid being sent off to her aunt as a teenager, Rose is now caught between two worlds – the servants don’t accept her and neither does Society, and everyone notices her unusually friendly relationship with her mistress. Thankfully, Rome couldn’t care less what society thinks about the woman he finds himself madly in love with, and he goes above and beyond to show her that she is so much more than what all the gossips think she is. A must-read if you enjoy this genre.
5+ STARS
Amazing, beautiful, absolutely wonderful read! Loved Rome and Rose’s story.
A lord and a…maid?
When Rose was about to make her debut, her father gambled his fortune away, leaving the family destitute. With no prospects, she enters into service as lady’s maid to her best friend Penelope Crone. But now Pen has married and has a husband and beautiful babies, so things have changed. Then Roman Spencer, Viscount Darlington, stumbles into her life by mistake. Her attraction to him is immediate. But she is no longer a lady, just a lady’s maid. So love is out of the question.
Rome needs to wed. Rumors are spreading about him that must be quenched. When taunted into drunkenness by his more adventurous younger brothers, Rome accidently wanders into the wrong room and encounters the most alluring woman he has ever met. But she is not a lady. He cannot compromise a servant. But the attraction he feels cannot be denied.
Can the maligned lord and the once a lady overcome the barriers of class and find true love? Or will society conspire to tear them apart?
These two characters, well, all of Annabelle Anders characters, are so well written. I so appreciate a well thought out character who has flaws and strengths and is “real”, and that is what you get with Annabelle’s writing. Plus meaty and thought out plots. You cannot go wrong with this book!
There is always one thing you can rely upon when reading a story by Annabelle Anders, it will never go exactly as you think it will. Just as I think I know the direction of the story, it changes directions either by actions or the emotions of the characters. If you’re reading this and have never read anything by Anders, choose any book, ANY, and you’re guaranteed an extraordinary read.
I adored Rose from the onset. She was certainly far more than just a maid, and it caught the attention of one viscount heading for an earldom. She’s intelligent, practical, level-headed, and has a knack for knowing what someone needs. Her only downfall? Not believing in herself.
Viscount Darlington is a serious man who is not afraid to work hard for what he wants. After celebrating a bit too much he stumbles into the room where Rose is staying. She takes care of the drunken Viscount and they fast become friends having more in common than one would think.
Their attraction is stronger than what Society would deem proper and one is completely smitten while the other sees no future for the mis-matched couple.
And that’s all you’re getting from me….read the book. You won’t be disappointed. Every single book by this author transports you back in time for a tale that draws you in so deep, you swear you’re in the room watching events unfold.
Lady Be Good (Lord Love A Lady Book 5) by Annabelle Anders
I LOVED IT! This is a delightfully decadent sweet confection, too good to pass up!
I throughly enjoyed Rose and Rome’s story. Rose’s father gambled away his titles fortune forcing Rose into service which she found as her best friend’s maid. At a Christmas holiday house party Rose awoke at a knock at the bedroom door when she met with a very drunk Lord Darlington. Darlington has let his brothers get the best of his usually over dull sober demeanor, and now he couldn’t find his bedroom. Rose pulled him inside before someone saw or heard him in front of her door at 3 am. She knew she was safe with him, besides being his best friend’s wife’s maid, there were all of the rumors that he didn’t prefer women anyway. Or were either of them safe?
The characters are witty, with some deep emotional tones, some delightful light-hearted humor, and some sweet tender moments that all lead up-to a forbidden love, society won’t accept.
I recommend this book to everyone who loves historical romance with an engaging storyline, wonderful characters, and a steamy romance that will melt snow.
Happy Reading
Content: Adult, steamy romance with some explicit description.
Another excellent read by Ms Anders. It was a real rollercoaster ride of emotions with lots of surprises thrown in. I loved the concept of a maid and a viscount although really she was only pretending to be a maid even though no one else saw it. The secondary characters were from other books which was nice and I loved Josephine. There was quite a bit of sex in this book and as usual, this reviewer skipped it but it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the book. I received this as an ARC and have been happy to do a review.
Lady Be Good is book 5 in the Lord Love a Lady series by Annabelle Anders. I think these books just keep getting better and better. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I think I fell a little bit in love with the hero – Romance Spencer, Viscount Darlington. He is so unpredictable. I liked that he is seen as a man of character and yet he has his moments of weakness. There are some truly wonderfully romantic scenes in this book. “He coaxed her lips wider, exploring tender flesh. Tasting her, reaching for more, he relished this intimate gift. Dangerous. Dangerous because this kiss would not be enough. He needed to know more of her – with his hands, his mouth, his body. He needed to know all of her.” I found the “lady to maid” scenario hard to believe, but that was the only plot line that I felt was weak. A companion would have been more realistic. There are a number of steamy sex scenes. Overall a great book. I look forward to reading more by Ms. Anders.
You can’t go wrong with Annabelle Anders!
The Fifth book of, Lord Love a Ladies Series, has drawn me further into the magical lives of these amazing characters. Author Annabelle Anders has written another swoon worthy novel that will keep the readers begging for more! A victim of circumstance, Ursula Rosamond Waring, AKA: Rose, is lady’s maid to childhood friend, Penelope. Having lost the family fortune due to gambling, Rose’s father has left his daughter with no hopes of marrying an aristocrat. Attending the Cortland’s Christmas Party at Summers Park, Rose is awakened by a severely drunk Lord Rome Danbury. Unable to get Rose off his mind, Rome continues to find excuses to be close to her. Will Rose have to live a life of loneliness being satisfied as a maid to her best friend? Will the handsome Lord Danbury be willing to give up everything to have Rose? Can love conquer all or is there no hope for there to be a happily ever after for this amazing couple? This is such a heartwarming novel that is filled with hope and love. I am looking forward to see what the amazing Author Annabelle Anders has in store for us next!
Rose Waring never expected to find herself working as a lady’s maid. As a gentleman’s daughter she had anticipated marriage and a family of her own, but that was before her father gambled away their funds and she wound up working for her best friend from finishing school. Roman Spencer, Viscount Darlington, is heir to a rich earldom and known for being staid and gentlemanly, never setting a toe out of line. But his attraction to his friend’s lovely maid at a Christmas house party is far from appropriate. Even as their attraction blossoms into love, Rome and Rose are still bound by the societal restrictions separating them, unless they’re strong enough to choose their love over everything else.
There two had a lot going against them, but their biggest problem was Rose’s lack of confidence and poor Roman did quite a bit of typical male bumbling. It took these two forever to get on the same page and get out of one another’s way, but they were a charming couple and I was rooting for them the entire time. I especially enjoyed the other characters quietly trying to push them together and Roman’s mother, Josephine, especially stole the show for me. This was a lovely and enjoyable read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Rosie was brought up to be a lady. She went to school with Penelope but because her father lost all of their money she became Penelope’s maid but she really should of been her companion instead. She doesn’t think she’s good enough for Rome as he stands to become Viscount Darlington. Rome at first wanted her as a mistress but she knew she couldn’t disgrace herself or her family. When Rome finally realizes that he can’t be without Rosie he proposes marriage but she doesn’t think she’s good enough so she turns him down. It’s up to him to show her that she is good enough and that she’s exactly what he needs and wants.
Annabelle Anders never disappoints . She goes above and beyond for her readers. You will never be disappointed when you are reading on of her books.
I received an Advance readers copy of this book and the review is 100% my own.
Oh my, Annabelle sure knows how to write a captivating romance! This one had my emotions all over the place! So good I could not put it down.
Rome, is the oldest Spencer who will become the Earl Of Ravensdale one day. He is boring to the outside world. But like many he has secrets. He ends up drunk, which is far from his normal character, and in a bedroom with his friend’s wife maid, Rose. She has secrets herself. She was raised to be a lady but when her father lost everything to gambling she became a lady’s maid to her best friend. There are many twists, turns, heart breaks, heart melts, and just some really sweet and steamy moments.
But overall a great book that kept my attention to the end and did not disappoint! Rome and Rose’s story made my heart ache, love, and burn. I really love this series and look forward Lady Asherton’s story! I received an ARC of this book and chose to post my review.
This book was sad almost the entire way through. Roman, Viscount Darlington needs a wife. He had been betrothed the previous year but had been left at the altar and now there are terrible rumors going around about him. Rose Waring is the daughter of a Baron who has gambled away the family money. Rose is now working as a maid to her friend from school.
The two meet at a house party at Christmas and while the attraction is there how can a Viscount ever consider a maid as a suitable wife. He starts out by offering to make her his mistress which she refuses but that doesn’t stop the attraction. Meanwhile, her employer/friend Penelope is trying to match her widowed sister-in-law with Rome.
This romance seems to have no way to work even though the reader is hoping for a Happily Ever After between these two. Just when things seems to be going good, scandal occurs and it looks like everything will fall apart.
Annabelle Anders has done a wonderful job of writing characters that you can’t help but love.
I received an advanced copy of this book.
