She can’t make a baby without a husband! Or can she? After witnessing the miracle of birth, self-determined spinster Miss Penelope Crone is having second thoughts about swearing off marriage. She wants – no, she needs – to experience the blessed event herself. Dear God, she’s practically thirty! Time is running out!Hugh Chesterton, Viscount Danbury, is relatively intelligent, good looking, … is relatively intelligent, good looking, unmarried, and most importantly, close at hand. With a little décolletage, a sway of the hips, and a few drinks of brandy, Penelope is certain she can extract a respectable offer.
If only she’d accounted for the power of passion.
Because unchecked lust takes over, leaving Penelope in a most precarious predicament. And Lord Danbury –– the goose-brained jackanapes –– is proving far less attainable than she’d imagined.
Is Penelope to be cast out of society or will Lord Danbury take a leap of faith and save her from ruin? He’d better act fast if he’s going to make her his lady. HIs Lady At Last…

Great characters make a wonderful read!
This story grabbed my attention early and kept it. Good fun read!
I really enjoyed this book. The writing was better than most and the story was very good.
At 28 Penelope was certain she did not want to marry. Until she holds her friends newborn in her arms. That sets her off on a quest and and her sights on friend Danbury. The story is fast paced and the dialogs are good and sharp. Well done,
Wonderfully written.
Some interesting twists.
I truly enjoyed this story. Pen was such a unique character..thanks for telling her and Hugh’s story.
Good story but yukky sex!
This was an entertaining read! It’s plot was different than run of the mill Regency Romances. I loved the characters
New twist. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
An enjoyable read
I had my share of tears reading this book! I loved it!
From my review at amazon.com:
Winnefred was not brought up as a Lady ought to be. Rather she had a hard life, and manual labor after she reached a certain age, but she had her friend and Governess Lilly to help her maintain her spirit in the tough and lean years. Both of their futures are about to change. I love the plot and the characters, and I love a happy ending! A word to the shy or underage girls: there’s a bit of explicit, but not obscene, sexual content.
Penelope got herself in a serious predicament. Hugh is clueless.
After a rocky start, finally love, trust and, hopefully happily ever after.
I loved the characters! Fun read. Id like to read more by this author
I enjoyed this twist on a 19 century romantic novel. Easy read.
03/31/2021 All I can say about “Lady at Last” (nook) is WOW. It is a great story with angst, surprises, danger and, a Miracle. I look forward to reading more books in this series. Annabelle Anders is a phenomenal writer!
This book sucks you in and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Definitely a different take on a historical romance novel!
