Buckle your seatbelts, it’s going to be an exhilarating ride! I have loved the previous 3 books in this series but this one was “over the top” for me – it kept me turning pages as fast as I could & staying up much later than I should have.
Eight and Twenty, Penelope Cross, is a self proclaimed spinster & she chose that for herself until she assisted her cousin & best friend, Abigail in the delivery of her baby boy, Edward. That changed everything Penelope thought she wanted, needed or believed & now all she can focus on is finding a husband & having her own child.
Hugh Chesterton, Viscount of Danbury, is a handsome rake, intelligent & happily unmarried. He spends most of his time in London but knows he must begin paying more attention to the other properties he knows are in disrepair. He is also at the estate when Abigail’s baby is born as he is supporting his friend & her husband waiting for the birth. Penelope find Hugh to be a good starting place, as they have been friends for years & he is conveniently close by.
All of the action begins here & I found myself loving, hating & wanting to strangle both Penelope & Hugh in one chapter. I laughed, I sobbed, I was angry, I was teary eyed & I smiled – but as I read “The End” & closed the book, I was so happy I had read it. The subject that Annabelle Anders took on for this book was one not often seen in Regency Romance & it was so well written.

(Lord Love a Lady Book 4)
It is so nice to read a story out of the ordinary and “Lady at Last” is definitely out of the ordinary.
This book is a wonderful story of when a woman feels the desire and need to be a mother and is ready to be a mother.
Penelope hadn’t even imagined such a feeling but after experiencing the birth of the child of her friend Lily, the Duchess of Cortland, all she could think of was “I WANT ONE”. So after not sleeping for at least twenty-four hours, she went in search of a husband, namely Hugh Chesterton, the Viscount of Danbury, who had been waiting in the Duke’s study with the Duke for the birth of the baby. He would be an acceptable husband and father she thought. She would flirt with him and see what happens. But things went a little- no a lot awry because Hugh was in his cups and a got a bit amorous when she tried her flirting techniques on him.
Well that didn’t go as planned and now she HAD to marry him… but would he marry her? Did he remember the encounter? Great fun read. Happy Reading! Reading Genie
Though Annabelle Anders’ books are a little spicier than my normal fare, I just can’t stop reading them because the characters draw you in and their stories are so engaging. This one doesn’t disappoint. I laughed, I cried and I couldn’t stop turning the pages to see what would happen next. I have truly enjoyed every book she has written and can’t wait for the next one!
Lady at Last was an amazing story. I just loved Penelope and Hugh. So emotional.
Absolutely loved Penelope and Hugh! Couldn’t get enough, couldn’t put it down! Read until 4:00 AM as the glorious ending would not wait! This author is an amazing talent, writing characters that steal our hearts. It was wonderful revisiting all those we have come to love in this series, and so excited to hear there are many more to look forward to!
Well Told!
Penelope and Hugh, longtime friends, find themselves in an unusual situation.
She has taken advantage of him while he was inebriated and now has to face the consequences alone or get married.
He does the honorable thing when she eventually tells him she is pregnant by him but he really doesn’t believe that anything has happened between them.
The story really takes off from there with both of them discovering that they rather like each other, but always in the background are his doubts about what really happened.
The story seems to effortlessly flow out of Annabelle Anders pen (though I am quite sure there was a whole lot of spit and polish put into it) and it reads beautifully.
I loved the main characters and if my mother acted anything like Penelope’s then I probably wouldn’t have been held responsible for my actions towards her.
A great story, well told and most entertaining and I am more than happy to recommend it to you.
