This is a great steamy read that takes you to the past. It gives a twisted look at vampires like you have never seen. The time travel and how its explained will rock your belief while giving you a different look at the past.
From druids to vampires and people who can live forever in the land of sky! This author knocked it out of the ball field with this story and has me hooked to buy more!
This does not have a cliff hanger for this story but the rest of the males in this clan I am sure will have their own story coming sooner or later!
I enjoyed reading this story! I love that it has paranormal characters and a Scottish highlander and a strong female that time travels from the future! I recommend this book and the author !!!!!
I loved this book! This is the first I have read by this author but it is definitely not my last. She has it all. Time travel, Scottish history, vampires, Druids, sex, romance, intrigue, combat and most of magic! I can’t wait to read more. Her books are unable to be put down.
While on a mission in Afghanistan USAF Captain Kinley Chandler received wounds over a major portion of her body. Serious organ damage, immeasurable pain and PTSD further complicate matters. She is in constant pain and refuses pain meds – she doesn’t want to be here anymore. A new therapist decides Kinley may respond favorably with a change of scenery so she takes her off base to a scenic location for their session.
The therapist steps away for a moment and that is when Kinley begins moving her wheelchair down a path, she suddenly finds herself falling. Everything looks strange. Then she questions whether she is falling, dying or if her PTSD is kicking in. When she makes a hard landing and looks around, everything is different – she is in a strange location and environment which she can’t explain and she “feels” different and confused about everything. Clearly she has changed, but not in a way the therapist envisioned.
Immediately she hears noise and sees a warrior separated from his team. He is being attacked by six men so Kinley does what she was trained to do, protect and defend. The consequences of her actions create a shift and set things in motion that have the potential of changing more than the battle outcome. Her first response was to save the man and while doing so she took down not one, but six vampires — with fire….coming out of her hands! After saving the man’s life, she looses consciousness and wakes some time later to discover she is immersed in a land of druids, vampires and immortals. No one was mores surprised than Kinley.
This unusual beginning is a preview to an emotional and visual tapestry of things beyond the concept of “normal.”
Upon awakening, Kinley learns the man she saved is none other than Lachlan McDonnal, laird of the clan…and he is all man and very easy on the eyes. The feeling seems to be mutual because Lachlan wants Kinley and not just for her “torchy hands.” Seems she roused something in him he thought died centuries ago. There is definitely chemistry between these two warriors which makes for very good reading….not to mention various standout characters ranging from heart stopping heroes to lascivious demons and let’s not forget the snake that likes to come out and play.
There is love, lust and evil in this story, as well as a history that spans almost 2000 years that begs the question, “Was Kinley sent 800 years back in time to save her or the clan? Or was it to make all of them whole again?”
Hopefully this fabulous story is not the last in the saga of Pritanis, druids, and vamps.
I received a reader copy in exchange for an honest review. This was a heart-stopping, thrill ride from beginning to end – I loved every character, every page and everything about this story. Job very well done and in my opinion, the author has earned all five stars.
I keep surprising myself when I find these hidden gems.
Immortal Scottish Highlanders, time travelers, romance, delightfully told and wonderfully entertaining. These characters are so well written, the story is engaging and I couldn’t help but want to know what happens to all of them.
Yes, I will read the others in this series.
ABSOLUTELY RIVETING !!!
Title: Lachlan
Series: Immortal Highlander
Author: Hazel Hunter
Designation: Book One of Series, Full-Length Standalone, No CLiffhanger, Medieval Historical/Time Travel/Fantasy Romance
Reading Platform: Kindle Edition
My Rating: Five Sexy, Riveting Stars*****
Oh my! I loved, loved, loved this book! I’m fascinated by stories featuring mythology, folklore, and fantasy, adore Time Travel Romance, infatuated with Medieval Historical Fiction, addicted to steamy romance, obsessed with strong, sassy heroines, completely smitten with sexy Scottish Highlanders from any century, and when I can find it all in one great read, I’m in heaven! And that’s exactly what Hazel Hunter delivered in Lachlan, the first riveting release in her new Immortal Highlander Series! There are so many things I truly enjoyed about this book so let’s talk details!
Lachlan is a captivating, imaginative, fast-paced, exceptionally well-crafted and edited, full-length standalone historical medieval time travel romance with paranormal, supernatural and fantasy elements, and filled to the brim with compelling drama, pulse-pounding danger, edge-of-your-seat action, daring adventure, nail-biting suspense, heart-wrenching angst, steamy passion, and heartwarming romance. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with multiple perspectives and this story had quite a few. In some instances, multiple points of view can be somewhat confusing to the reader if they aren’t skillfully written, but Hunter does a fabulous job. All the perspectives are clearly discernible with most designated with individual chapters. I always enjoy stories written with clearly defined multiple perspectives. It allows me to know the thoughts of all the primary characters, not just the protagonists, and I especially love it when we know what’s going on in the convoluted minds of the bad guys. I think it adds so much more depth to the story. The dialogue is smart, snappy, and flows effortlessly. Hunter obviously did her research because I found the language and terminology for the era to be authentic, articulate, and exceptionally well executed. In other words, Hunter’s fourteenth-century characters spoke like fourteenth-century Scottish Highlanders. In reality, none of us would actually be able to understand a fourteenth-century Highlander, but Hunter did make them sound as realistic as possible, which definitely added to my enjoyment of this story. But without a doubt, my favorite element of every book is the characters, and this story is no exception. Hunter gives us a large cast of intriguing, engaging, and well-developed characters who literally explode from the pages, grab your imagination, demand your undivided attention, and completely capture your heart. I fell head over heels for the two protagonists, present-day Air Force Captain and wounded war veteran Kinley Chandler and fourteenth-century Scottish Highlander warlord and Laird of Clan McDonnell, Lachlan McDonnell. OMG! I loved these two characters! Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed all the characters but Kinley grabbed me in the very first chapter and Lachlan had me swooning in the second! They are fabulous together and complement each other brilliantly! The interaction between Kinley and Lachlan is absolutely captivating, their attraction undeniable, and their fate inescapable. When these two meet, sparks fly and passion explodes, and I do mean quite literally!
Did I like this book? No, I loved it! Would I recommend it? You bet and I a but only for adult readers since it contains some several explicit love scenes! If you enjoy well-written medieval historical tales with supernatural elements, and liberally seasoned with time travel, action adventure, danger, drama, passion, and romance, then this book is screaming your name! And if you loved the movie and series Highlander, this story will, most likely, tickle your fancy! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
Captain Kinley Chandler has lost everything she’s ever loved, her mother, father, beloved grandmother who took her in and raised her after the death of her parents, her career in the Air Force, thanks to injuries received while fighting for her country in Afghanistan, and now, quite probably her life as well. Even if she survives, she’ll never be whole again. Kinley would rather die than live as only a shell of her former self. When Kinley decides to stop her suffering and end her own life, her efforts are met with a very unexpected outcome. Rather than tumbling down a ravine, which is what she planned, Kinley falls down a rabbit hole and plummets back through time to the year 1314 where she lands right in the middle of a battling raging battle between a legion of Roman soldiers, who look suspiciously like vampires, and an army of medieval Scottish warriors, one of which is about to meet his maker unless she can save him. After realizing her body has somehow been miraculously healed and apparently enhanced, Kinley doesn’t hesitate and springs into action, shooting fire from her palms to save the virile, handsome, red-haired Scotsman. Wait… What? She’d never believed the tales her grandmother told her about her Scottish heritage, thinking they were nothing but tall tales. Apparently, they held more truth than Kinley ever imagined. Oh dear! All of it has to be a dream, right? What else could go wrong for Kinley? A lot, actually! The handsome warrior could kiss her silly, abduct her, and take her back to his secret lair on the Isle of Skye. Oh, and he could also be an immortal Highlander who will live forever and fights the undead! Oh my! Will Kinley ever find a way out of her nightmare and if so, will she want to return to her life in the future? We’ll see!
love it
This book is like Gladiator meets Outlander meets…Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Shockingly, it works!
This is an entertaining and action-packed read! It’s definitely dark at times, but the strength truly lies in the personalities of the characters. From Kinley’s strength to Lachlan’s soft side, his highlander brothers’ loyalty and even the evil of the Romans. It’s all just very believable even though we’re dealing with so many fantastical elements. It’s a uniquely compelling story, and while I can see how it might be too dark a read for some, I’m excited to see where this story is headed!!

Absolutely loved this book…a real page turner…I was hooked ….great storytelling
Very good storyline
WOW!! This story had everything you could want to keep you on your toes. I usually find myself skipping the slow parts in the books I read but this one didn’t have a dull moment.
Very well done.
I’m a bit disappointed in the reviews to this wonderful book, and yes, I did read the reviews first because I didn’t want a piece of Scotland time travel fluff. Although others enjoy that type of genre, it just isn’t my cup of tea per se. Hazel Hunter provided me with a realistic feeling of time travel back to 1314, describing what it was like. The gruesome bloody battles that were so fought so hard, the intense physical attraction that makes it hard to catch your breath and the hairs on your body stand on end. This, is what I’m looking for when I look for a Scottish time travel and this is what I received. The characters are beautifully flawed which brought the coming together of hero and heroine so much more intense. This is a series I will be grabbing as quickly as possible.
Fierce Highlanders, Roman Vampires and a strong twentieth century woman, what more could you ask for in a story. Ms Hunter held my interest from the very first page of this book. Kinley’s struggles in Afghanistan and her injuries had me wondering where the story was going at first, but it soon became obvious and I was hooked. The main characters are so likable that when someone hurts them, you want to jump in and help. I enjoyed this book very much and will be looking to read the next in this series.
A great time-travel story with a strong, fiery heroine in Kinley and sexy highlander hero in Lachlan fighting the undead and falling in love. If you like it steamy, you won’t be disappointed!
Hazel Hunter is a master time travel storyteller in her own way, she is able to weave ancient time truths in her descriptions tangled with fantasy. Lachlan is truly an amazing believable tale. I love Hazel Hunter’s books.
Kinley Chandler is a wounded war veteran languishing in a hospital bed in San Diego fighting to find the will to live. She was in an explosion that embedded shrapnel in her stomache, took her leg and scarred her both physically and mentally. As an excercise in healing her therapist takes her on a car ride to a national park hoping to jump start the fight within her, but only makes Kinley more interested in ending her life. When the therapist steps away to get her phone, Kinley puts the wheels in motion to launch herself down a hillside to hopefully end her life. Instead, she lands in 14th century Scotland in the middle of a fight between some highlanders and Roman soldiers. Her body is whole again and although she’s confused, she jumps in and saves a highlanders life creating an immediate bond between the two of them.
When I read this synopsis I was intrigued by Kinley, a female wounded warrior, wondering how her skills were going to help her out in medieval Scotland. Once she had come to grips with her situation we did see those skills in play. She had been a search and rescue coordinator, so her strategies in finding the Romans who were terrorizing the inhabitants of Skye were ahead of this time. Even better was Lachlan’s acceptance of who she had been and that he took those skills for granted. I was ok with Lachlan’s immortality (yep) but what was hard for me to overlook was that the Roman soldiers were actually Roman vampires. Just to make it really clear, the good vs evil fight was between Immortal Scottish warriors and Roman soldier vampires. There was a lot going on in this novel!
The talent was apparent in the writing because, well, I stuck with it to the end. I just wish she hadn’t thrown the story at the wall to see what stuck. It would’ve been enough for me to have Kinley get thrown back in time her body whole, found a warrior who see’s her worth, comes to love her- maybe throw in a couple of fighting scenes to show off everyone’s skills and then have our happily ever after. The vampire scenes were pretty gross and vivid, so I skimmed and skipped those parts. I really just wanted to get back to what I considered the meat and potatoes, Kinley and Lachlan. However, I can see why other readers gave this novel high reviews. Kinley was an original! The female vet angle was really appealing and in the end her character is why I read this book all the way to the end. If this plot intrigues you, you’ll be happy to know that there are a LOT of these Immortal Highlander novels. Every highlander apparently has a woman come tumbling through from our world. Lucky them! I haven’t decided yet if I am going to give the second book a chance. The writing was good, but oh those Roman vampires…
It wasn’t the typical highland book. I enjoyed reading it
Loved the entire Immortal Highlander series! Hazel Hunter has a great imagination and wonderful storytelling skills. Her next series (Immortal Highlander, Clan Skaraven) is proving to be just as good! Looking forward to more from this author.
I have been used to reading the author’s other book which are pieces of a whole story carried out over an arc a many books. This book was complete and very satisfying. I was very glad to have read it
I would have given it five stars, however there was too much sex in the book.
