A glistening, golden, alien body. The hard muscles of an alien warrior. Two horns from his head. And the best part? That’s not all he has two of… getting involved in when I agreed to be his mate.
I knew of the Kilgari. But I really didn’t know much about them.
Let’s just say I’m both excited but I’m gonna be taking some very deep breaths to prepare myself.
I mean…can you imagine the possibilities?
Sure, there’s more to my fated mate than just his two…things.
He’s fiercely protective.
He takes charge and makes sure that I’m taken care of.
All his focus is on me.
Every single moment of his is to make sure I’m safe. Comfortable.
And happy.
I guess what they told me at the Companion Academy was true in the end.
Too much of a good thing isn’t bad.
It’s wonderful.
Kurg is the sixth book within the Brides to Beasts series set in the Athenaverse. It can be read as a standalone, but it shares the same universe that you’ve found in other books. This book features a romance of an alpha male alien warrior, a smart, sassy human woman. Expect to see characters you’ve come to love pop in during the story. No cheating and HEA guaranteed!

Ashley is a trained companion assigned to Kurg, a Kilgari cadet within the Alliance. Tensions between human and non-human sentients may be running high within the galaxy, but our hero and heroine find that compatibility isn’t as big of a problem as everyone seems to think (especially in the bedroom).
This is the first book I’ve read in the Athenaverse and it’s the sixth within this particular series, which may account for why I didn’t feel like the world building or character development was as good as it could have been. I know that a number of the side characters were cameos from other books, so I think I would have appreciated them more had I been familiar with their backgrounds.
Ashley was a bit too up-and-down for me. Freaking out or making rash decisions one second, then totally chill and accepting the next. I found Kurg’s mentality to be similarly erratic. I’m just not sure I bought the depth of connection that they were supposed to have and which drove a lot of their actions. But as a said, if I had read more books within this universe, I might have been able to gloss over those issues more easily.
All that being said, I may be open to reading more, but it would probably have to be a full-length book.

Enjoyed the story. It is well written, entertaining and holds your attention. Kurg requests a companion in order to move out of the barracks and into an apartment. Ashley applies to be a companion after losing her business and in debt. The matching turns out to be more than either of them expected. There is also danger and attempts are made against Kurg’s life. This is a great story and worth reading.
A human woman and alien find happiness but the road is not easy for either of them. I received an ARC copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Well worth reading!
Kurg is a Kilgari cadet at Barakus Academy who wants to move off campus to avoid teasing and pranks from his classmates. He applies for a companion which would make him eligible to move off campus. Ashley had been a companion but quit to start up a hoverbike business that closed when competition moved in. Needing money to pay her debts, she returned to the companion role and was matched up to Kurg, finding they both had some sizzling chemistry!
Kurg is very protective and, when Ashley tries to help a store owner fight off thugs, Kurg rescues them and becomes a target for the gang. When things get out of hand with assassins and kidnapping and they are both put in danger, will Kurg seek help to put an end to this?
Kurg had a goal, to be the best in every effort he engages. But not a team worker he had to endure his academy mates’ pranks until he decided no more of that, he would get a Companion. Seems he was thinking in the way of “the end justifies the means”. But, as a way to balance things out and perhaps, give him a little humility and appreciation for the other things that life brings, his Companion was quite different from what he expected. Ashley’s knowledge of the Kilgari was little and surprises were not her forte, but she would have to muster up the courage and fulfill her role as a good supportive and dedicated Companion. She soon saw the perks of the surprises! Strong emotions and sometimes confusion had Kurg debating what to do but, he was sure of one thing Ashley was his jalshagar and he would not fail her. Interesting how these two started their contract with trial and fix situations. Naturally, the difficulties did not wait and when it seemed that everything was going to work well, they found themselves fighting for their lives because evil is always lurking in the dark. Liked Kurg’s character and how he was trying and trying to make things work. Despite his eagerness to excel he was not selfcentered, it was the way he felt good about himself and he needed to do his best. Action, suspense, good characters, violence, some amusing scenes, romance and passion.
Talk about a Kilgari in a strange land! And as a cadet in the Alliance military at the Barakus Academy. I love it. This new “Brides to Beasts” story is cute. I like that Ashley is a more down to earth character than some of the other companions that have been initially in some of the other stories. Kurg and Ashley’ awkward beginnings blossom into heated romance and love, not without action, adventure throw in a little kidnapping to spice things up and you get a rollicking good story.

This was a quick read but it was amazing from start to finish and now it’s finished I want more of this couple Kurg and Ashlyn because they are perfect together. Kurg is a cadet at Barakus Academy and works very hard to be the best at everything but his other cadets give him hell with pranks so before he kills anyone he decides to get a companion which takes him out of the barracks and into an apartment with her. Never once did he think she would be the perfect partner or that she was his one true mate. Trouble seems to find his mate when she helps out a shop owner that’s had trouble with theses three teenage humans before and now that Ashlyn has broken the leaders nose the others prepare to attack but stop when Kurg walks in to save her. Now there is a bounty on his head and an assassin try’s to kill him. Will they survive and get there HEA read this book to find out.
