Citadels of Fire I found hard to get into. The story seemed to drag. The story improved in Bastions of Blood. I was captivated by the tenacity of the Russian people under the leadership of a horrendous tyrant. Dungeons of Destiny brought the series to a satisfying conclusion. This is a fascinating series.
Recommend to readers who enjoy historical fiction.
I borrowed a copy from Kindle Unlimited. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
Kremlins Complete Trilogy Boxset: A Medieval Russian Historical Romance from K.L. Conger
Is a typical Russian novel, the story is set in the Kremlin in the time of Ivan the Terrible. It’s a very realistic story and there are lots of different emotions in it. Some pieces make you smile and some make you shiver you love and hate it at the same time. They are exciting and romantic books at the same time. The books are very well written and give you a glimpse into life in the Kremlin and life at the court of Tsar Ivan the Terrible and the people around him. Although I understand that the books are part fixi, they still give you an impression of the life of that time. The books are fascinating to the end and I could hardly stop reading.
This book will transfer you to the world that doesn’t exist any longer. The Tsar’s Era.
Fascinating time of extreme differences.Royalty, violence, madness. The book follows so many characters over a long period of time.
The author has created characters that you want to follow their stories as they are unfolding.
Is this book representing good reviews of the past? I believe it is, just please to not compere to any other countries because is no any country or history for that..
Definitely recommended
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
These books are amazing. Well written and filled with well researched historical facts. They leave you feeling like you are right in the middle of the story.

A haunting and brilliant trilogy of Russia in the 1500s under the reign of Tsar Ivan the Terrible.
Citadels of Fire:
You know it’s a good book when you decide to finish a chapter before bed and end up finishing the book. I was awed at the historicity and detail in this book. It was so amazingly integrated and powerful, bringing to life this time in Russian history. The characters were amazing. The best and the worst and everywhere in between. The humanity given to Ivan was humbling.
Bastions of Blood:
It took me longer to write this review than normal. This hauntingly intense masterpiece before us. Anyone who knows their history (which I didn’t) could guess at what is within these pages. Gut wrenching. Horror. Agony. Images I wish I could sear from my memory. True depravity at dizzying heights. Conger outdid herself battling the torrid realities that lay in our past as humanity. A sobering and sickening installment in this trilogy. I am in awe at how she handled this tragedy in our past and brings it to new life. The forgotten shall be remembered once more.
Dungeons of Destiny:
The end of a saga. After the harrowing experiences of the second book, this final installment felt more resigned – or maybe I was the one who was resigned. Having seen the horrors, nothing could surprise more now. The barbarism continued. Lives continued and lives ended. A small thread of hope remained woven in.
Truly Epic Russian Historical Romance Box Set
I thoroughly enjoyed this epic historic series that takes place during the reign of Ivan the Terrible in Russia. The author has done an amazing job of researching the known history of the movers and shakers of the time as well as imagining how it might all affect regular people, especially those who might disagree with those in power or ask too many questions. The combination of all these factors made for a compelling read, even if these are long and detailed books. Given the times and the man in power, these are violent books, but still the human spirit triumphs. I like that the author chose a time and place not often visited in historical fiction, let alone historical romantic fiction. I love having all the books together in one box set.
Here’s my review of the last book. People usually review the first in a box set; I thought I’d be different.
Dungeons of Destiny review: The book begins with the end of Ivan the Terrible’s massacre of Novgorod. We first see Kiril as he decides to leave that place that is meant so much death, including the destruction of his own family. As his skills as a cobbler or valuable, he becomes a camp follower as Ivan heads back to Moscow; through him, we gain insight into the mind and actions of Ivan. We meet other characters in this book, ones known to us from the earlier books of the series and new ones. In this sprawling epic, we see the effects that Ivan has on a variety of people, from the common people of Russia to generals to servants to the tsar’s own family.
Will Taras and Inga find their way to each other? What about Kiril? Will anybody try to wrest control from Ivan? Will the atrocities ever stop?
This book follows so many characters over a long period of time. We witness the effects of the tsar’s growing madness. It is at times a brutal and hard to read work due to the extreme violence that is depicted. However, the author has created characters that you can invest in that make you want to see their stories unfold. She does a good job of setting the scene so that we, as readers, feel we are there. The author appears to have done a great amount of research for this novel, even though she admits that it is not 100% true to history.
If you enjoy sweeping epics that give a fictionalized account of history’s effects on the common people as well as those in power, you will most likely enjoy this book.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
I read and reviewed each of these books separately so this is a synopsis of my reviews. This was a rather lengthy and involved series which I considered well worth my time. It dealt with many different stages of Russian history during the time of Ivan the Great and Terrible as seen through several POVs. After book one, I was very anxious to get my hands on book two. If I would have had my hands on this box set I wouldn’t have had to wait. I was in total AWE while reading this series. It is fantastically written. But with it comes blood and horror. I could never understand how the people of this time period could have survived, but having read these words by Ms Conger, I feel I can now imagine how. I truly felt as if I were there living through the eyes of her characters. However, you must not be afraid of reading about blood and gore and bodies and carcasses and pieces of bodies piling up, and reading about how they were tortured before they died. It amazes me how a bit of history can be taken and written as a fiction story purely imagined by the author and making it alive in your head. Such is the case with this bit of history about Ivan the Terrible and the havoc and heartbreak he inflicted on his people. I have come to know these people and felt their pain and suffering. I lived vicariously through them with all their experiences, loves, sorrows, friendships, etc. Ms Conger does an excellent job of bringing this period of Russian history to life. The world these people lived in was brought to life in my eyes with vivid clarity. This series is totally worth the read and one I can easily and highly recommend.
Citadels of Fire (Kremlins #1), incredible, epic read, my first read from author K.L. Conger. 368 pages & over 13 hours of reading/listening but seems longer as it is so detailed & entertaining.
Bastions of Blood (Kremlins #2), the incredible, epic sequel to Citadels of Fire, my second read from author K.L. Conger. 414 pages & over 12 hours of reading/listening but seems longer as it is so detailed & entertaining.
Dungeons of Destiny (Kremlins #3), the incredible, epic sequel to Citadels of Fire and the conclusion of the trilogy, my third read from author K.L. Conger. 355 pages but seems longer as it is so detailed & entertaining. I’ll be reading more from this author no matter what pseudonym she writes under! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
