This is for charity. This is for fun. You are a professional. You can do it.Those are the words that Calloway Alvarez chants to herself as she watches all the large men gather into the small room where she’ll be doing the interviews for her employer—Hero Magazine.Honestly, she’s convinced herself that she can’t accomplish the task at hand. That is until she hears his voice, and her head turns to … voice, and her head turns to see him standing there.
Louis Spurlock. Greek god. SWAT officer. Keeper of her secrets. Ultimate fantasy. Man who will break her heart.
***
Louis Spurlock has been playing nice.
He’s been biding his time, giving Calloway the space she thinks she needs.
But then he sees her taking photos of his friends in all states of undress, talking to them all as if they’re best friends, and that little thread of control he’d been managing to hold onto unravels.
Let’s change it up, she says. And the moment the words are out of her mouth, he’s stripping to his skivvies, and throwing out a challenge while he’s at it.
Calloway won’t know what hit her when he’s through playing.
But he does know one thing for sure. When it ends, she’ll be his.

I loved these two characters! Louis, even though he’s a hot SWAT cop, is the sweetest to Calloway. Calloway isn’t having it. He broke up with her when she was a junior and she still carries that hurt. BUT Louis sure is sneaking into her heart again… When odd and terrible things start happening at her home and a strange student won’t leave her alone, Louis is going to get to the bottom of it. Meanwhile, one stormy day may turn into something more for him and Calloway. I loved this story! It was sweet, steamy, and funny, too. This is an all-around great series! 4 stars
After reading Ask Me If I Care, I couldn’t wait to learn more about Louis and Calloway. I needed to know what happens with these two, why they hated each other, and let me say Louis was a dumb kid who made a big mistake. But is Calloway willing to give in and Louis a second chance?
Guys, we also got to see a little glimpse at a few new couples forming and learn a few more things about some HOT SWAT officers. As always Lani has me wanting more of KPD SWAT 2.0.
Louis Spurlock has been biding his time to get back in Calloway Alvarez’s good graces but the stubborn woman is still pissed at him for breaking up with her in highschool. Louis wants a second chance, but getting Calloway to even acknowledge him is harder then he thought. However, when she is sent to interview his SWAT team for an article he sees his chance. Can he convince Calloway that she is the only one for him and he will not break her heart again?
There is so much more to this story. I am very curious about Calloway’s sister which a bit of her story is revealed. There were so many potential stories coming out in this book and perhaps a new biker series, crossing fingers. I thought this was great, you get Louis and Calloway’s back story and the regret that Louis feels. A bunch of my favorite characters made appearances and it was just another fantastic addition to the series.
I’ve come to be a big fan of Lani Lynn Vale. I haven’t read all of her books, haven’t even read any of the original SWAT series I don’t think. But at some point, if I ever have any extra time, I’ll want to go back and try them. For now I’m going to continue enjoying this second generation of the characters that are the kids of that original series.
Something I’ve noticed is a bit of a formula for these stories, and I like that I have a pretty good idea. Basically about the first half is spent with the two falling in love and finding their happiness together. There are little hints placed in the story, as well as small events that lead up to the big happenings in the second half of the story. There’s always one more smaller scare in the relationship towards the end, but I like how, at least in the ones I’ve read, we’re spending the last half seeing how they will make it together when the big bad things come around. In a way it’s like getting the “after” the HEA that I’ve often wondered about with other favorite stories.
The heroine, Calloway, was one that I definitely felt many similarities with. Especially the way she felt about herself. It was also fun to read about the school day to day for the school nurse job she had. However, as someone who has been a teacher and now a librarian for the past 24 years, I had to stop and point out on my Goodreads status update about a comment the characters made about how having visitors wear a name badge seemed a waste of time. Yeah, but it also is part of the security itself. It may not seem that helpful, but to get one, they’ve already gone through the office, and this way staff in the school know when they see someone wandering the building that isn’t supposed to be there if they should escort them to the office, or if they’ve already been checked in. So that is the reasoning. Okay, off my soap box about that.
Another great story from this author, and I will have to make sure I get signed up on as many of her books as I can in the future.
Lani Lynn Vale is a new author to me but she has a long list of books that I want to read. May Contain Wine is a standalone book but it is the fifth book in the KPD SWAT Generation 2.0. KPD SWAT Generation 2.0 is the follow-up series to CODE 11: KPD SWAT. As I said, this is a stand-alone book and I had no problem jumping into the storyline BUT I highly recommend going to Lani Lyn Vale’s website and taking a look at the “Book Lists and Family Trees”. It was very helpful for me to learn all of the characters and their relation to one another. Grab your iced tea and let’s chat about May Contain Wine by Lani Lynn Vale.
Louis Spurlock left Kilgore, Texas for the Marines determined to never look back. However, breaking up with Calloway Alvarez almost destroyed him. He may have left chasing the adventures that the Marines could provide, but the majority of his heart remained in Kilgore. Louis is back in Texas and is ready to claim his girl but Calloway treats him like a stranger and all of his friends and family do everything they can to protect her.
Calloway Alvarez is a nurse at the local high school. Everything she ever wanted was in Kilgore. Travel and adventure were not something that important in her life which is why her high school boyfriend dumped her when he joined the Marines. When Calloway finds herself the target of a dangerous stalker, there is only one person that makes her feel safe…the one person that almost destroyed her heart when he left.
I spent a good portion of the book distrusting Louis Spurlock because of the way he shattered the precious heart of Calloway. But, he finally won my trust. You will wait to read it yourself to find out if he won Calloway’s trust. It was really easy to jump into this book. There was enough explanation of the large cast of characters that I didn’t feel lost. What I did feel was a sense of loss. You see, I’ve missed out on four other books in this series and seven books in the first series. My rating for May Contain Wine by Lani Lynn Vale….4.5 out of 5 propellers!
Louis and Calloway have history. A tonne of it. They were childhood sweethearts and when Louis enlisted he broke his true loves heart.
Needless to say regrets were had.
But Calloway embraced her anger and kept a hold of it for a long time.
But now Louis is back and there’s only one thing he wants..and she doesn’t want any part of it.
I loved this. So much in fact I inhaled this in one sitting. I didn’t want to put it down.
I find that with every Lani Lynn Vale book I read, I want to read every single thing of hers I can get my hands on, So I will, if I can.
**An advance copy of this was provided to me by the author and Wildfire Marketing solutions. My opinions are my own and have not been influenced**
I swear, these books always get read in one sitting…you just can’t put them down!! The romantic scenes are hot and never disappoint! Calloway and Louis are 2nd generation characters and you should probably start at the beginning…you will not be disappointed at all! There are some funny fight scenes and witty banter. I absolutely LOVED seeing all the usual characters and what they are up to as well as getting a possible glimpse at storylines we may see in the near future??? Watching Louis try to win Calloway over was pure lightheartedness and so much fun to read!! Of course, there is a little side story thrown in and it worked great. Loved everything about this book and anxiously waiting for next one to come out!!! The KPD Swat is a great series and highly recommend them all!
Louis and Calloway have moved to one of my favorite couples, they each have fire and passion. When Louis comes back home he tries everything under the sun to get Calloway to notice him again. I love that each of these stories has a little mystery mixed in, this one had me guessing and kept me guessing until the end. But when all the danger is gone will Calloway let Louis back in to her heart?
5 They’re Perfect For Each Other Stars!!!
The minute this beauty hit my kindle I dropped everything else I was doing because I HAD to read it. I’ve become a little addicted to LLV and her stories so I take any chance I can to read her words!!
This book centers around Calloway and Louis and what a love story they have!! They were a couple when they were younger and that all went out the window with a few simple words uttered by Louis and the life Way was expecting to have disappeared from her grasp. However, it’s not that simple because Louis is inherently important to Way and her utter existence! To say she’s a little cranky about this sometimes is putting it mildly and she’s got such great snark!!
I loved how Louis made a decision that he was getting his woman back and wasn’t taking no for answer either even if Way wasn’t on board with his plan….trust me he’ll be as patient as he needs to be! These two together had me laughing out loud, swooning and then fanning myself because once these two connect on every level…it’s HAF!!!
As I’ve come to love in this series, we get all the Next Generation kids and some of their stories while leading up to their actual books. There’s also the lit bit of suspense in this book that was for me very sad as much as it was intriguing. One of the prevailing emotions in this book and this series is the overwhelming amount of love that’s between everyone and how they’ve got each other’s backs no matter what. And everyone is accepted for who they are which just makes this family that much bigger! I cannot wait for Booth’s book because it’s going to be a doozy!!
4 1/2 STARS!
They say you never forget your first love! With book five in her delicious KPD SWAT Generation 2.0 series Lani Lynn Vale delights her readers with Louis and Calloway’s story and it’s a knock out!
Calloway is attention grabbing from the very first page when she has her teenage heart broken by the one man she thought she could always trust. She’s never forgotten … and she’s never forgiven.
Louis is such a nice guy! Watching him final get his foot back in the door with her is so rewarding, and watching him move into protection mode for his woman is sexy.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who enjoys steamy cop romance with a close-knit group of family and friends. There’s always a bit of intrigue in each story and these characters are just so easy to become addicted to. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
This is the fifth book in the SWAT 2.0 series. This is a complete standalone, so if it’s your first, that’s okay, but you will want to go back and read the others.
I absolutely love this series!
This is Calloway and Louis’ book.
It is a second chance for them.
They grew up together, being kids of the first generation SWAT team. In highschool, they became more. Until Louis left for bootcamp and broke it off with Calloway.
Now he’s SWAT and home for good. He has to get her back.
Calloway is still pissed at him.
My heart broke for Romeo once the full story came out. He just wanted help.
I love how this story played out. And I really can’t wait for the rest! Especially Booth and Bourne.
“Chubby, single, and ready to Pringle.”
Lani Lynn Vale wrote an entertaining story for sure. Louis and Calloway were high school sweethearts until he broke her heart. He was ready to train to serve his country but didn’t want to make her wait for him as she should have enjoyed her life without feeling trapped.
But dude, even with her best interests at heart, he made it worse.
By protecting her, he unleashed such hate from her that he didn’t know how to fix it, just trying to be patient, and failing in his plans to win the woman back.
Calloway has so much hate… I meant *cough* love for Louis, the one who dumped her and tried to get her attention every time, like a losing battle but just never let it go.
She was a spitfire who could hold a grudge like no other. Since Louis came back, he was always on her way, insinuating into her life, because that guy stopped being patient and waiting for her to realize that they were not over, far from it.
But the heart wants what it wants and her body didn’t get the memo. Reacting too much when he was close.
I could feel their beautiful complicity and their powerful connection.
I appreciated this second chance romance about two people who never fell out of love.
It was lighthearted, fun and steamy, with a hint of suspense.
GAHHH! This was such an amazing second chance romance! I loved watching Louis realize that he had a second chance and grab it. Watching him work hard for Calloway was just so heartwarming!
I loved the added suspense of who was messing with Calloway. It broke my heart a little in the end, but I just loved every minute of the book!!
Louis and Calloway were perfect together. I really wasn’t sure what to expect from their story as we had gotten a few bits and pieces of them previously. So I knew that they had history but I wasn’t sure what had happened to break them up.
And I really loved that it was pretty much just life and Louis trying to do the right thing. And even though it was misguided and he was an idiot he realised it immediately and there didn’t seem to be any drama while they were separated.
Calloway was a great heroine. She had an illness but it didn’t make her a victim or useless it was just something she had to deal with. I also was so happy that despite the fact she was hurt by Louis breaking up with her she didn’t hold a grudge or hold back from starting a relationship.
They were a great match and I really enjoyed watching them come back together. I can’t wait to read Booth’s book next. Although I have a feeling that ones going to hurt a little.
LLV never fails to amaze me! Just when I think I’ve got the book figured out, she throws in another surprise, one that I never could have seen coming! This book was one surprise after the other, just the way I like it!
Calloway loves Louis. But she hates him too. He hurt her. Bad. And now she can’t even stand to be in the same room with him. It even hurts to hear about him. So she does her best to avoid him, even when her life depends on him. And she doesn’t think that will ever change.
Louis loves Calloway. But he messed up. Big time. He wants her back, but isn’t sure what it will take to get her to give them a second chance at happily ever after. But he’s determined. And he isn’t giving up.
Louis and Calloway set my heart on fire. They are both hurting, not being together. And their story really was amazing. Even when I was wondering what the heck Louis was thinking when he broke Calloway’s heart, I was still cheering them on, waiting for that HEA. And even when things were looking grim, I knew that LLV would pull it off, in the end!
Second chance romance at it’s finest… these second generation SWAT brats sure know how to entertain. Louis and Calloway’s story spans over a few years… they are high school sweethearts until he breaks up with her to travel the world, and breaking her heart in the process. As we all do they grew up and he realised his mistake, and was determined to win her back. A sweet story of second chance love, but will Louis be able to keep her safe when a stalker is seemingly obsessed with his Calloway… Another entertaining book with many more to come hopefully!!
Calloway Alvarez and Louis Spurlock dated briefly in high school then he dumped her. So, yep this is a second chance at love story and Calloway makes him work for it which is fantastic.
Calloway is the school nurse but also writes a blog and has her own magazine. Being one of the original SWAT team member’s children she grew up knowing everyone and learnt some interestIng tricks. She had a stubbornness about her that I think might have had something to do with growing up with the rest of the fun gang but it sure has helped at other times. Her sassiness made for some fun moments as well.
Louis also grew up as a part of the same crew but the thing about him was that he owned up to his mistakes, he was honest with himself and others. His protective nature extended to all of his family and friends but of course especially to Callie. As a couple I liked them together and they certainly had good chemistry.
There is a good amount of humour sprinkled throughout the story, especially the witty banter between the characters. Likewise there is a serious element with a mystery that keeps you guessing for a bit, I love it when storylines aren’t predictable.
A fast paced story that is easy to read and pleasurable to boot.

4 Star Review May Contain Wine (Swat Next Generation 2.0 #5) by Lani Lynn Vale
I fell hard and fast for Calloway Alvarez and Louis Spurlock’s second chance at love story. From the first to the last chapter I was riveted to the story that Lani Lynn Vale wove and had a hard time putting it down.
This was a roller coaster of a read as yo could feel the pain that Calloway still carries from Louis’s breaking up with her when they were younger. I understood his reasoning and my heart went out to him when he finally returned home from active duty. All he wants is to get Calloway back, it’s a shame she wants nothing to do with him.
Louis is certainly an alpha male who was fiercely protective of Calloway and I loved how all in he was with his feelings for her. As danger rears it’s ugly head, will Louis be able to keep her safe?
There were times that I laughed, I cried, I wanted to scream but through it all I was invested in Calloway and Louis’s story. The chemistry between them sizzled and I was cheering them on to get their happily ever after.
Loved Louis and Calloway’s story. I wanted them to find their happy with each other. I loved the characters as well as this story. I have to say that I love the mixture of the first and second generation of the SWAT families. It is great following the kids as well as the parents as their story continues as well. This is a highly recommended author, story and series!!!!
