His voice threaded through her, as if it might be made of rawhide, designed not to break, to weather time and elements, as sturdy as the land he probably worked. Because yes, he wore cowboy like a second skin, the no-nonsense aura of hard work and get ’er done.“Do I need to go back there and put some hurt on anyone?”He wasn’t smiling, and she couldn’t tell if he was serious—maybe. Which sort of … serious—maybe. Which sort of unrooted her for a moment. Um…

AHHHH. Everybody needs a Knox in their life. (And I’d really like one in mine. :D)
“Tate,” book 2 in the Montana Marshalls series, just released this week – so it was a prime opportunity to pick up both books and start reading. I really like starting a series when a few are out already, so I can just blitz my way through … guess that means I need to pace myself on “Tate,” lol.
Knox is defo a swoonworthy hero, and the book and plot are both fantastic. Susan May Warren is fantastic at creating a sense of place, really drawing in the reader to a location and setting. I legit felt like I was right with Knox and Kelsey as tragedy struck and they emerged on the other side.
Also, knowing that Tate would be the next featured brother in the series, I truly appreciated how Warren brought him in as a prominent secondary character – I already was getting to know him before his own book started. (And that seems to continue as I read “Tate” — pretty sure I know the next Marshall brother coming!)
Great book
Wow, what an incredible start to the Montana Marshall series! I am going through Marshall family withdrawal right now and can’t wait until July when book #2 in the series comes out. It was that good! Readers will fall in love with the Marshall family and not want the story to end. Knox is the dependable, hardworking sibling who always tries to do the right thing. His brother Tate, is charismatic, confident, and knows how to charm the ladies. For fans of Becky Wade’s Porter family series, Knox reminds me of Bo Porter, and Tate reminds me of Ty Porter (my favorite Porter sibling), so of course I fell in love with the character of Tate, but Knox is pretty amazing too!
Both Knox and Tate had starring roles in this novel filled with suspense, danger, lots of romance, and of course, handsome cowboys. The other Marshall siblings played supporting roles, but they will have their own stories play out in the rest of the series. There is an overall story arc that will follow through the entire series, but each book will take place right after the previous one and will have its individual storyline as well. I definitely recommend reading this book, so readers can be ready for Tate’s story in July! It can’t come soon enough for me!!
I really enjoyed the characters in the story. It did keep making me want to read the whole book in one sitting, as it was hard to put down. Knox is so dedicated to his family owned ranch but danger lurks around every corner. I am looking forward to reading Tate, which is the second book in the series. Awesome Read!
I enjoyed this book. I was rooting for Know all the way. The Marshall family is so funny and full of heroes.
An awesome start to the Montana Marshalls series! Who couldn’t love a book that tells a story of a cowboy, while fighting his own demons, helps a lady with her demons. Knox is a former bull rider who runs the family ranch raising bucking champions for the bull riding circuit. He feels like the best time of his life is over and he is just existing. Kelsey, running from her own demons after a violent attack as a young teen, wants it safe. After an incident at a bull riding championship brings back those awful memories, Kelsey just wants a safe life. Can Knox and Kelsey both get what they want out of life or are they going to continue to search for what they need? Loved the characters, story, and cannot wait to read Tate’s story!
What a great start to a new series! I loved the combination of romance and suspense that was woven throughout the book. Kelsey and Knox both had multiple layers to wade through as the reader got to know them.
Kelsey definitely had a traumatic past that still haunted her throughout this novel. I absolutely loved the effect that Knox had on her, a calming and protective feeling that was amped up with lots of attraction. It was a great blend. And Knox walked the line of hero and protector, while also juggling so much weight of responsibility for his family ranch.
I loved getting to see characters that I knew from previous books make small appearances in this novel. But, not to worry. If someone had not read the other series, they would still follow the storyline of Knox just fine, as these character glimpses are not dependant on a great knowledge of past books and situations and simply provide a little treat to readers who have enjoyed other books by this author.
I am anxiously looking forward to reading the next novel in this series!
I was mourning the end of the last series and characters, but Warren more than made up for it in “Knox”!
I’m still reeling from this explosive start to the Marshall family saga. And if it’s one thing Warren is fantastic at, is writing them, whew!! They got under my skin and buried in my heart. Both Knox and Tate were over-the-top heroes, and yeah this is Knox’s story, but this gives you a fairly good idea who Tate is. Certainly can’t wait for his story next! The agnsty romance, strong feelings she emotes, and wow, lots going for it…you really don’t want to miss this! And, if you read Warren’s last series, Montana Rescue, you’ll get a brief visit with country star Benjamin King & some of the PEAK team. I love that the author included them, it was like seeing old friends.
Definite five star plus, plus novel and the reason why Susan May Warren is my automatic must-read author!
Knox is the first installment in Susan May Warren’s Montana Marshalls series. Having read other novels by Susan May Warren, I had some expectations – romance, danger, suspense, and a good story. I’m happy to say that Knox did not disappoint. The plot pace was perfect. Thanks to the action, mystery, romance, and suspense, the story held my attention and never dragged.
I really liked how Knox was part of Kelsey finding healing from her past. He wasn’t the full solution to Kelsey’s issues, but he provided a safe space for healing to begin and pointed her to God, the ultimate Healer. The Marshall family responded to Kelsey and her pain in a healthy, supportive way that I admired. There was plenty of good character development. As Kelsey and Knox grew individually and as a couple, they drew each other out of where they were and into better, though perhaps less predictable, places.
I recommend Knox by Susan May Warren to readers looking for story with romance and suspense. If you read and liked the author’s Montana Rescue series, I think you’ll find Knox to be a very enjoyable read. 4.5 Stars!
Lastly, I have to give a warning that Kelsey is the victim of a physical and sexual assault. I thought the author handled it with sensitivity. However, I recognize that this book has enough content (because a lot of it is about Kelsey’s journey to healing) that it might be a trigger for some victims.

DYNAMIC!
KNOX is a DYNAMIC start for Susan May Warren’s new Montana Marshalls Series! I have always been drawn to “Real Men” because of the influence of my Daddy, my Great-Uncle Johnny & their best friend Clay. They were men of the Greatest Generation – all WWII Vets, Navy, Army & Marine respectively. As I read Warren’s description of Knox, I couldn’t help but think of these three men.
I always enjoy Warren’s series because she bases them around family, always has major edge of your seat suspense and romance. She also infuses Christian beliefs as a way to encourage readers. Her characters are believable and relatable. Her beautiful descriptions of setting make you want to visit all the places she describes. Her plot is dramatic and will keep you distracted from everything else you’re supposed to be doing!
One of my favorite quotes is this:
“We’re all wounded, Kelsey. But it’s our wounds that allow us to have compassion for each other. It’s how God shows us He loves us too—through the way we reach out and hold on to each other.”
Knox holds a special place in my reader heart because I have a serious soft spot for mister steady heroes. Even when Knox experiences disappointment and heartache, he just keeps on keeping on with a hearty dose of “get ‘er done!” He’s equal parts strength, compassion, and determination.
Kelsey is a modern-day damsel in distress but she’s also incredibly strong, resilient, and capable. I enjoyed all the modern country music and songwriting references in the story. Kelsey’s past is painful yet powerfully inspiring.
Personally, I love the way Warren’s stories are intertwined (yet able to stand alone) within an ever-expanding fictional universe. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of the series!

If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. As with all of Susan May Warren’s books that I have read, this struck every emotional cord.
Kelsey Jones was a young woman that experienced tremendous tragedy in her life and the fear and pain still gripped her soul. Her physical wounds had healed, but not her emotional ones. She didn’t feel safe and didn’t know if she ever would again. Kelsey was part of the Yankee Belles singing, along with her friends, Glo and Dixie and they loved country music.
Knox Marshall was tall, dark and handsome, with killer blue eyes and he was a protector. He had given up what he wanted most to promise his dad he would do as he asked so he had given up a promising career of bull-riding and returned home to their Montana Ranch to keep it running.
When Knox first met Kelsey there was something that made him want to protect her and keep her safe. Kelsey felt it too, but couldn’t get close to any man. She didn’t know if she would ever be able to trust a man ever again. As danger closed in on the Yankee Belles, Knox and his brother, Tate, were determined to keep everyone safe and find those behind the incidents that just didn’t add up to coincidence.
Was it possible for these wounded souls to find comfort and peace . . . and love?
Ladies, get your fans ready. And maybe a drink of water. Knox is one swoon worthy character. I mean, why aren’t we all fleeing to Montana right now!? Wow. Susan May Warren writes some of my favorite hunky heros, but Knox just might be the one to beat. He’s loyal, protective, hard working, safe, and so much more. And while I would love to tell you just to read the book for Knox, I can’t. Susan May Warren can write a book. I mean, it’s not all about the hunky heroes (although they are a plus!). She weaves a story, shows vulnerability, character growth, romance, and even suspense. There’s a little bit of something for everyone in this story.
I do have to touch on Kelsey’s character for a moment. She may have tried to act strong, but on the inside here is a girl who just needed to be loved the right way, and protected. Don’t we all want that at some point in our lives!? She was scared, and she proved this theory over and over again in this story. I’m not going to lie, at times I just wanted to shake her and tell her to wake up and stop running. But I get it, I probably would have done the same in her situation. And isn’t that what a good author does? Make you feel what the character does, and question how you would have handled a situation? Warren makes me do that with every single book I read of hers!
I think this just might be my favorite Warren book! That being said, I cannot wait to see what other wonderful stories and heroes we will see in this series. If only time could go by a little quicker…….
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Great story, page turner!
Oh, how I love Susan May Warren’s heroes! They’re never perfect, but they’re always wonderful. Knox introduces readers to the Marshall family, brothers Knox and Tate in particular.
While I wasn’t as instantly into the novel as I normally am with Warren’s novels, by about the 25% mark, I was completely hooked and read the rest of the book in one sitting. I love Knox so much! He’s loyal, honorable, and steady—qualities that he doesn’t always see as being attractive, but oh how wrong he is! I loved watching his relationship with Kelsey develop.
I also enjoyed the secondary love story (that’s really just beginning) involving Tate and Kelsey’s bandmate Glo, and I’m looking forward to watching it develop in the next book, Tate.
The book has a good amount of suspense, and the twists went in directions I didn’t expect but that felt authentic. This is such a fun ride, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series! 4-1/2 stars.
Note: Fans of Warren’s other series will be excited to find references to the Christiansens, Nobles, PEAK Rescue, and the Jude County Hotshots! (And I probably missed some—I haven’t read all of Warren’s other books … yet!)

Wow! Couldn’t put it down. As always, Warren does a wonderful job of keeping me turning the pages!
Always adventure. Always suspense. Always a hunky guy…but always a different storyline to keep me hooked! Loved Knox and can’t wait to get to know the rest of the family!
I received a copy of the book from the author through Interviews and Reviews website. All thoughts and comments are my own.
Loved it!!! I fell in love with Knox at the first page. Knox lives on the family ranch in Montanta where he raises champion, bronching bulls for the rodeo circuit, NBR-X. He has been very successful in business, but he was counting on Hot Pete could bode well for Marshall Triple M. Knox had always believed “Family first, family strong”, but obviously his siblings didn’t. In the last 3 years his siblings had all drifted away while he was working to pull the ranch out of the red. Knox was tired of standing on the sidelines while his siblings chased their dreams.
Knox agrees to meet his brother Tate after the rodeo, but when he spies a young woman across the room in trouble Knox steps up to help. Kelsey Jones is an upcoming country music with the Yankee Belles and occassionally she likes just escape the fame and pick herself up some buffalo wings. Tonight that was not going to happen due to the sudden panic attack she finds herself in a barn facing not only a stanger in a cowboy hat, but also a fierce, high strung bull. When the stranger opens his mouth a beautiful tenor voided emerged to calm the bull, but it also pulled her out of her panic attatck. Kelsey and Knox are both strong, yet complex characters. Knox is a born protector with a little wild spirit woven in. Kelsey has dealt with so much turmoil and heartache.
This captivating and heartwarming story has elements of faith, trust, mystery, suspense, turmoil, and love. Once I got started reading this book, I didn’t want to put it down. I would recommend it to anyone.
I received this book from the author. I was not required to write a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Have you ever loved a book so much that you just can’t find the right words to accurately express that love? Knox is that kind of book for me. I’ve been staring at my computer screen, for I don’t know how long, searching for a way to describe the sheer awesomeness, the beauty, of this story.
Susan May Warren always delivers a fast-paced, heartfelt read that’s impossible to put down. Knox is that and so much more. It left me breathless, anxious, swooning, joyous, teary-eyed. My emotions were all over the place and I loved every second of it.
A lot of Ms. Warren’s books have made their way onto my favorites shelf and I’m making a special place there for Knox. It’s my favorite of hers yet, the best book I’ve read this year. What a breathtaking start to the series! I highly, highly recommend it!
Finding God through the fires of life
My rating is 4.5 stars
This ain’t my first rodeo book, yet I don’t remember ever seeing a bond between the livestock and their owners like the one Knox and his bulls have. Is there such a thing as a bull-whisperer? The care and concern he had, not because they were valuable, but because he just loved them, was so very touching to me, There were several interactions he had with them that were very tender and sweet!

I have to say that Knox is high on the list of my favorite heroes of all time. His struggle to see himself as Jesus does, his deep and abiding love for his family, his strong, steady, protectiveness, and the way he wasn’t afraid to say what he thought combined to make me like him more and more. I appreciated that he made mistakes and wrong judgements as well, keeping him realistic.
Suspense and action filled the moments that weren’t the swoony romantic ones. From bombs to stalkers to chasing down bad guys – it was the kind of story I have come to expect from Susan May Warren. I loved when Knox and Tate took the matter into their own hands, not waiting for someone else to solve the case.
With Kelsey’s singing, this story was filled with songs. I noticed that this was the case in the Montana Rescue series as well and think it is neat how the author writes the lyrics as well as the stories. I am sure it is nothing like the tune she had in mind, but as I read the touching lyrics, I was singing them in my mind. . .
As with the other series Susan May Warren has written, these books will all be very intertwined. Though this story belongs to Knox and Kelsey, Tate had a major role and it is quite clear the direction his story will take. Several of the characters we know and love from the Montana Rescue series had appearances here, including Ruben, their brother, Ben King, the Country singer, and others. If you haven’t read that series you won’t be lost here but it is certainly one worth reading as well.

This book is a great start to the Montana Marshalls series. Susan May Warren has a gift for spinning a story and this one is full of twists as the characters navigate their deep feelings and insecurities in the midst of unknown danger.
Knox is a solid guy, one you can lean into and know you’re safe, but he only sees himself through the lense of trying to measure up and falling short. His inbred desire to protect the weak and innocent brings him directly into Kelsey’s path.
Kelsey hides behind a mask when she’s on the stage but trauma has damaged her trust of men and she’s just a thread away from her PTSD taking her out. Embarrassment causes her to flee from Knox but circumstances bring her to hide out at his ranch.
With danger all around and no clear clues as to where it’s coming from will they come together or run from their desires?
Add in a brother seeking redemption, a country singing trio, bull riding and a family reunion, and you’ve got another winner.
