Jessie is a women I can honestly say I find one in a million. She suffered more in 8 years by the hand of a horrible husband and his lankies then anyone should ever have to. She finds Duel when he needs Breath put into his sails again. Well her and baby Marley Rose that is. These two ladies bring him back to the living after he lost his wife and son.
She gets a family and trust again. But your past never seems to stay were you want it to. In the past. She has to face all her demons from her tortured. Not only that but in a court of law. The town that never helped her gets to decide her fate.
Linda Broday’s characters are strong and her delightful writing style keeps me turning one page after another. Her westerns are gritty, yet full of romance. I absolutely loved Duel and the way he interacted with baby. Just melted my heart!
Knight On The Texas Plains is a spectacular western romance by Linda Broday. Ms. Broday has provided readers with a well-written book populated with a stellar cast of characters. Duel wins a baby in a card game and as they’re camping when a woman rides into camp needing help. Jessie was beaten, branded and on the run after killing her husband. Duel and Jessie’s story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense and will tug at your heart. I loved this book from start to finish and look forward to reading more from Linda Broday in the future. Knight On The Texas Plains is book 1 of the Texas Heroes Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
Linda Broday has created a mesmerizing story filled with characters so immediately real and who are facing heart achingly sad circumstances with strength and faith found in a family formed through love, rather than blood ties. A precocious baby girl, a guilt ridden bounty hunter, and a physically abused and desperate woman find hope when they need it the most. This book, written by a master storyteller, is mandatory reading for every fan of exciting western romance!
This book kept me turning the pages and tugged at my heart strings!
This brings to light the lack of rights etc women faced until we slowly received what we should have had all along. There are always good people if we’re lucky to meet them.
Historical Western Romances have a special place in my heart. I just love the simple, pure, raw and hard-working lifestyle many had back in those days. It wasn’t an easy time period to be alive, but it was very rewarding. The blurb of Knight of the Texas Plains piqued my interest. One of the reasons that made me decide to read this story was because of the main character Duel, who was thrust into the role of father to an abandoned baby. I just love when there is a child involved in the story, the interaction between child and parent is beautiful to read. Duel doesn’t really know what to do with the cute baby girl Marley Rose. He tries to keep a distance but eventually he bonds with the baby.
Jessie stumbled up to his campfire in bruises, and Duel does what any gentleman would do and offers her a safe place to spend the night. Jessie is a very strong and caring character. I loved how she took to the baby right away and how the clueless Duel asks for her help with the baby. Both Duel and Jessie keep their distance because of their own reasons and things that happened in their past. However Jessie learns what a loyal, honest, protective and honorable man Duel is and her feelings for him change. I loved that the author took her time to develop their relationship with both each other and Marley Rose. Marley definitely stole many hearts in this book, including mine! There was a very open communication between Duel and Jessie, which I really appreciated. I can’t wait to read the next book in the Texas Heroes series. Hopefully Duel’s brother Luke will get his own story.
Duel, Jessie, and Marley Rose quietly snuck into my heart and nestled deep in this beautiful story! These three lost and lonely individuals found the love and comfort in each other, creating a family all their own. There’s so much beauty that flowed from the pages from all the characters – even including Luke, Pops, Vicki, and others, that I felt overwhelmed with it — and it’s just what my heart needed while escaping into this book.
Marley Rose is such a sweet little girl who stole my heart with how she became the first chain link to unite Duel to his Jessie. She also provided many giggles with her love for her goat and dog.
Jessie was such an intriguing mix of vulnerability and strength. She wasn’t weak and destroyed despite her horrific past. Duel provided her with the space and grace she needed to recover, along with a comforting hand up, to get back on her feet – before he swept her off her feet, of course!
Duel was a surprise for me. His tender heart was exposed first in how he immediately claims Marley Rose and Jessie under his protection, but then his presence flowed off the pages. I love how he’s a quiet man, but yet, under that quiet, there’s a powerful intensity that you don’t want stirred in a bad way — but oh, once that intensity was riled in a good way, I got butterflies in my belly!! Well, and honestly, watching that same intensity when he was protecting his women was a sight to behold!
This story provided all the feels I like in my books and will be treasured and revisited often.
From the beginning pages, Duel McClain’s story had me hooked. Once he met Marley Rose and then Jessie, I didn’t want to stop reading. Mrs Broday has done a masterful job of bringing the old west to life. Throughout the well paced story, there was suspense, tears, fear, revulsion, and no shortage of love, laughter and joy. I didn’t want the story to end. Once again, Linda Broday has written an outstanding story that I won’t soon forget. This is a story you don’t want to miss
This was the first book that I read from this author and it is a great read. The plot has several twist and turns that will keep you guessing. The main characters are realistic and fit well into the plot. The ending while a happily ever after is somewhat of a surprise.
