Sometimes the most beautiful souls are the most broken.Protect.From the minute I met her, I wanted to offer my protection.Desire.I wanted her to be mine, but didn’t have anything of value to offer. Just my jaded heart, broken soul, and undying love.Sacrifice.I gave up my pride, my hostility, and my heart to make her happy. I would’ve given up anything, even my life, to keep her safe.Everyone … tried to warn me that he was dead inside.I didn’t listen.Everyone said he was bad, violent, and would drag me down. They were wrong. He was as broken as I was.Together, we’d heal our hearts and stitch together our souls.

Knight of Swords is an excellent novella and prequel to the Lost Kings MC series. Roman and Juliet’s story was beautiful and I loved their characters so much. I went through a lot of emotions while reading as their road to an HEA was not an easy one. They met while in high school, their home lives were less than desirable which they bonded over and at the same time, they developed an unbreakable connection and relationship. Their story was quite addictive and with every page, I wanted more and more.
I hadn’t read the Lost Kings MC series prior to reading Knight of Swords and I loved this book so much that I will definitely be reading that series. Knight of Swords is a definite must read!!
This book was EVERYTHING!!! It’s an EPIC love story that made my heart melt!! Roman made me want to hug him so bad. He had such an awful childhood but still was able to fall in love. Juliet had it just as bad and when her and Roman get together it’s magic, and tragic, and just beautiful!!! And a huge bonus is that some of the LOKI (Lost Kings) men make a cameo which made me VERY happy!! But you don’t have to read the Lost Kings series by this author to love this book, it’s wonderful all on it’s own! So I highly recommend this book, you’re just going to adore Roman and Juliet!! Enjoy!!
#RealTalk: I really had no clue what to expect from this story when I first heard about it. I’m not the greatest at reading blurbs and teasers from #goto authors but at the same time, I knew it would be a short/novella type story, so I figured at best it would be an extended moment in time kind of thing, maybe. What I got was exponentially more!!
THESE.TWO.KIDS. *infinite hearts, I say*
Okay, so if you’re an Autumn fan and keep up with her LOKI series then you might have already spied these two as grown-ups. This is their story getting there …. And what an epically beautiful story it was! *infinite hearts, I say*
“Juliet, the day I met you, I knew I was gonna marry you.” … I mean … *infinite hearts, I say* !!!
Roman and Juliet are kismet. I felt it before it was even on the page. Autumn did that with her word wizardy. She always does! This woman is exceptionally good at this craft. I have sung her praises for years and she is well deserving of them. She didn’t write a fluff piece, but she didn’t bog us down with its darkness either. She walked the very thin line between dark and light with this journey but made damn sure you felt all Roman and Juliet’s history! And there is some serious history with these two. Broken souls you might even say, but when they met you could feel the force of their hearts as one glue those broken pieces together. It was a thing a beauty reading this book. I cannot emphasize that enough.
I’m not giving you a play by play of any of it because it just wouldn’t be fair. I even hope most of you don’t read too many reviews before you jump in. Just one-click and enjoy the ride! This story made my #2018TopReads list and truth be told, it’s in the top three! (do with that information what you will LOL)
” Sometimes the most beautiful souls are the most broken. ”
Cards of Love is a multi author project, organized by Willow Winters. Knight of Swords by Autumn Jones Lake is a standalone, set in her Lost Kings MC Series. Every book in this project can be read in every order.
Meet Roman Hawkins, he’s an outsider from the wrong side of the tracks and what he wants is age out of the system and be on his own. He lies low to avoid trouble, but when he mmets Juliet on his first day of school, everything is about to change.
Juliet is a good girl. She’s living with her aunt and uncle and is biding her time till she can leave for college. But Roman and fate have other plans-
They’re ” two lonely damaged spirits mended together…. and become one. ”
Knight of Swords is a touching story that will stay with you. I read the book a few days ago and I can’t get Roman and Juliet out of my head. They’re stubbornly staying. I liked the writing-it’s great, the story and the characters and give 4,5 stars.
So I haven’t yet managed to read any of the Lost Kings MC series yet, so thought this novella would be a good place to start, being the beginning of the Roman and Juliet story who you later go on to meet in that series.
It was a fabulous read about young love and coming of age, learning to trust and learn from each other, it was gripping and entertaining, emotional in places, quite sweet rather than dirty as its young love, but the story builds to their physical intimacies and it was thoroughly worth the wait – I really enjoyed this and would definitely read the Lost Kings series based on this novella!!
Roman is 17 and been in foster care since he was 10, bouncing from place to place around the system. In the latest home he gets put in he meets a girl at school called Juliet who lives with her aunt and uncle after her mum died when she was young. Their connection is instant, both finding something in each other that no one else has, pretty much soul mates from the start!
They’ve both been through a lot in their short lives and have been dealt difficult and cruel blows by fate, but both are strong and battle for their love together. A fabulous story I really enjoyed, and if like me you have not read any of the Lost Kings, or even if you have, this is a perfect start or new addition to your Lost Kings reading, highly recommended!
A young adult romance that takes us back to the period before Slow Burn.
Autumn Jones Lake masterfully tells the story of two broken souls coming together.
Roman’s life has been one foster home after another. Juliette was begrudgingly taken in by an aunt after the death of her parents. These two children that have seen the ugliness life has to offer. Two souls not wanted or loved, until they find each other. Together they discover, they mean something.
“I was too busy surviving from one day to the next. But Juliet made me want to think ahead. She made me hope for things I’d been afraid to admit to myself I even wanted.”
These two dream of a future. They work and plan for the life they want. Juliette is his light. He will do whatever it takes. However, once again, circumstances intervene shattering their dreams. Could life continue to be that unjust for these already broken kids?
This was a beautifully told story. I felt the pain and anguish these two endured, but I also felt the love and hope. Autumn has a finesse with her writing that gives the reader the eyes and heart of the characters. Another wonderful story to add to the LOKI collection.
I read a copy of this book. My fair and honest review is voluntary.
And Autumn does it again! Knight of Swords is a rough HEA (happily ever after) story…lots of ups and downs but a great read overall. Love the way Autumn connect her characters within her Lost Kings MC world. Normally I’m not into “Love at First Sight” books but I will definitely be re-reading this book.
“Sometimes the most beautiful souls are the most broken <3 ."
absolutely LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! Autumn Lake Jones is an AMAZING writer if you haven’t read her book your missing out..
First off I have to say like I do with every read for this author, I just love her books. I first questioned how I would feel about Knight of Swords with the characters being in high school, but in true fashion Autumn brought her amazing writing skills and blew me away with this sweet but intense story of love between Vapor and Juliet.
This sweet story will leave you begging for more. I was overwhelmed with all the different emotions but I couldn’t stop reading it. The pages just turned so easily. To say I was hooked wouldn’t be right I was beyond hooked to this story and the way it was written I loved all the characters and even then some. Once again Autumn sucked me into her world and gave be a book hangover one that I don’t want to end. Having this story somewhat tie into the Lost Kings novels really made it that much more better I mean who doesn’t want more Lost Kings. This was a prefect tie in. Roman and Juliette are a great couple just starting out in life. They sure know how to show they can get through just about anything that get’s thrown there way. When life hands you lemons you work with it well work with it this couple did they amaze you at every page turn. The story line was great and even the words on the pages were wonderful. The only thing I really didn’t like was the underage thing but that’s just me Autumn made this into what almost every teenager goes through at one time or another. Word building was out of the play park wonderful. The ending really grabs at you and your like wait what the heck just happened but so worth it in the end. HEA story makes you cry, jump for joy, get mad and all around thankful that it was written. MUST READ story!!!
***I received this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts, I was in no way told what to say this is all me, myself and I***
Teenage romance is usually fast and fleeting and all that remains are the memories, until the next true love comes along. This wasn’t the case for Roman and Juliet. The moment they met at her locker was the beginning of a special and impenetrable bond that no one dare tear apart.
Juliet and Roman were kindred spirits and their meeting was destined to happen. They needed each other as one needs air to breathe and one cannot exist without the other. Juliet felt at times that Roman knew what she was thinking before she even uttered the words and Roman felt protective over Juliet and he would always keep her safe. Beautiful and fun childhood memories did not exist for them because they both experienced terrible pain and heartache. Juliet made Roman feel worthy of having a bright future and he made her feel loved for the first time in her life.
Juliet’s kind words and gentle touch warmed his heart and made him feel loved. She was the one for him but he was afraid to love because he didn’t know how and he was scared of losing her. Juliet had never experienced love before but the feelings she had for Roman made her tingle inside, and smile on the outside. She fell for him instantly as if a love spell had been cast around them. Her future was with him as long as they could deal with any obstacles that might get in their way.
A loving family is something Roman and Juliet knew nothing about but in an instant, they became a family and were not afraid to look to the future with enthusiasm and hope. Love at first sight may be a myth to some people but to Roman and Juliet, it was special, magical and meant to be.
“Everyone’s a little broken, don’t you think?”
I agree that everyone is a little broken, but these two were more than a little broken. They’d been chewed up and spit out before they were even adults. Life had kicked them hard and they were just trying to survive. Their expectations were very low until they found each other. And once they did, they were afraid to hope for more… but they did.
I confess, I wasn’t expecting much from this story with it being part of a multi-author project. I knew I would like it, because, Autumn Jones Lake. But, I wasn’t prepared to have it affect me as deeply as it did. This story touched my soul. The pain these two teenagers had already endured. The unfairness of the life they had been subjected to. I was enraged by the injustice and ready to grab a shovel and offer my assistance to whoever had the balls to fix the problem. Yeah, I guess you could call me a 1% reader.
I loved this beautiful story, hard. Knowing the timeframe was before Slow Burn (Lost Kings MC, #1), when I finally turned the last page I was tempted to keep going and start reading the Lost Kings MC series all over again from the beginning. It’s one of my favorites and Knight of Swords only reinforced that belief…sigh. I’m not sure what direction the author will go with her next release, but this fangirl will be ready and willing. The line forms here…
Knight of Swords was my first Autumn Jones Lake novel and I loved it. This insta-love young adult novel had me hooked from page one right until the end. The chemistry between Roman and Juliet was so intense, even at that young age you just knew they were meant to be together. These characters were flawed yet well-developed and their story will evoke a range of emotions from you. Both from a less than desirable background, these two loved each other with a single minded focus and inspite of any ups and downs that focus never shifted. Apart from romance, there was some drama and angst in the story which all helped to keep you glued to the pages. I absolutely loved this page-turner.
It was a great introduction to this author’s work and has left me curious about her other books. This installation in the Cards of Love series was a great read and I would recommend it to all lovers of young adult romance.
This story was fascinating, intriguing, and engaging with lots of passion that is off-the-chart hot! This story held my attention, was entertaining and humorous at times, but it will keep you glued to the pages of this captivating story. This is the first time I read a book by Autumn Jones Lake, but I assure you, it will not be the last. Juliet Hayworth lives with her aunt and uncle after her parents died. Roman Hawkins is tall, handsome, smart, and sexy and he is living in a group home after years of being in foster homes after his mother died—both Roman and Juliet are products of tragic childhoods. Roman and Juliet met in high school. At the ages of seventeen, Roman fell in love with Juliet the first time he met her. He vowed to himself that he would protect her, sacrifice everything—even his heart for her, his desire and undying love, and he would do anything regardless of the consequences to keep Juliet safe. Although Roman sometimes was brash and very temperamental, but he also had a soft side when it came to Juliet. THE CARDS OF LOVE: KNIGHT OF SWORDS was everything I hoped it would be—emotional, angsty, intriguing, and beguiling from the beginning until the end. There are several twists and turns within the story that makes it interesting. The scenes are well written, fast-paced and flow smoothly from one scene to the next. The book will pique your interest and draw you in from the beginning to the very end.
5 SWEET LOVE STARS!! OMG, this book is a sweet beautiful love story that met in high school. Roman and Juliet are two broken kids, but so perfect for each other, they actually fix each other. I loved everything about this Book in the Cards of Love Series, it had all they feels and a quick read. I highly recommend this book.
First I have to say that with every Cards of Love book I read I fall more in love with this series. I mean these are some talented authors writing some serious love stories. Autumn killed it in this one and I fell in love with Roman right from page one because he is so swoon worthy.
I am a firm believer in love at first sight and that is what you get with Roman and Juliet. They come together and know they are meant to be together. The way the scenes played out with them made me want to have that love at first sight thing. Man was it hot and steamy Roman is the man.
They both come from bad backgrounds being Roman was passed from home to home and Juliet lives with her aunt who pays her no mind so she mine as well be an orphan. These two amazed me by their strength they showed and the willingness to fight the good with the bad.
Knights of swords is a fantastic Prequel to the Lost Kings MC.
I loved Roman and Julliet’s story, this quick easy novella, was able to touch my heart.
Roman and Julliet both met in high school, both endured traumatic childhoods, that along with fate lead to their bonding.
Their story is truly beautiful, watching two broken souls transforming is just beautiful.
Knight of Swords is the prequel to the Lost Kings MC series by Autumn Jones Lake and as such, it’s a great starting point for those of us, myself included, that haven’t read any of these books yet.
Juliet and Roman’s story was beautiful and I loved getting to know their characters and finding out about their lives. Juliet lives with her uncaring aunt and uncle while Roman is a foster care kid, neither feels loved or wanted until they meet.
This was a fast, insta-love novella but it had a lot of whirling emotions and still gave me all the feels as I read it. Now, I want to move on to the whole series.
This book was so freaking sweet!!! Roman and Juliet were love at first sight! Their love story was beautiful and tragic. I am so glad I read this book after the Lost Kings series because Romans road name at the end of the book. It was like a OMG! This is them! kind of moment! Roman the boy who went through foster home after foster home, Juliet lived with her aunt and her pervert uncle. They were inseparable. Amazing book!
loved it
