Excalibur has chosen her bearer. Getting married to the woman of his dreams isn’t as easy as Nathair thought. Not when his bride-to-be is a Morrigan and a wanted criminal. When he asks the king for an audience to speak in defense of Bryhannon, he ends up sentenced to death. Locked up in the Tower of Londinium, he wonders if the story about the Morrigans cursing those around them is real and if … cursing those around them is real and if his lock-picking knacks and fighting skills will save him before Bryhannon unleashes her destroying power.

Arthurian Steampunk… What’s Not to Love?
I have read several books by this author, and I always find them to be a delight. This book is no exception. This is the third installment of the new Camelot series, and I particularly enjoyed the occasional dry humor, even though the book tackles some very difficult issues. In this installment, the hero finds himself in several predicaments, some because of the woman he loves and others because the infamous Excalibur has chosen him… when it should not. I love the way the author blends Arthurian mythos and Dark Age British history with steampunk! A robot Lancelot, indeed! A delightful read by a talented author.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

This is book three of the New Camelot series and starts with Nathair, a Snake and Swan Guard struggling with all the various paperwork and permissions he needs in order to be able to marry Bryhannon, who is a princess, but also one of the three Morrigan witches. He needs the permission of the king and his and his mentor, Ewhen’s meeting goes wrong and they are sentenced to death for treason. They are chucked in the tower in Londinium to await their sentence, or die of the Black Death in the meantime. Bryhannon and her other Morrigan sisters, as well as Naithair’s sister, best friend Tristan and their really bad young wizard, all make plans to try and break the two of them out of prison. Plans collide with another rescue attempt and when Bry believes Nathair to have died, her Morrigan powers are unleashed, killing lots of people both innocent and guilty. This brings about a huge gap between the soon to be married pair, as Nathair doesn’t know if he can trust her not to lose it again and kill more people, nor forgive her for being the person that killed so many and almost killed his mentor and friend Ewhen!
Torgall, the powerful wizard is back in the mix in this one as well, he wants Excalibur, King Arthur’s magical sword and to use its power through one of the Morrigan witches. Direct descendants of the Pendragons, if they are worthy, are the only people who can wield it. A battle between the Britons and Saxons is coming and many of the characters will be involved in a deadly battle, forseen by one of the Morrigans and with a death of someone important and the unleashing of Bry’s deadly and terrible destructive powers. If she loses control of her powers again, Nathair wonders if she will end up killing him, as all the stories about the Morrigans seem to lead to. Everyone they care about, fall to their darkness and the three witches together are unable to be defeated by normal means. Lots of action in this one and two weddings to be looked forward to at the start, soon unravel as circumstances change. Lots of humour from their friendly but useless young wizard, who seems to get something wrong with every spell he does and has still left Tristan speechless! Relying on him for spells during this book, continues the unpredictable progress of all their plans throughout the book. Another great read in this series and definitely more intense action. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
