Let’s start by saying I hope this is not the last of the Layne Parrish Series. I’ve come to really enjoy the Three Amigos, Layne, Serena and Harry. I don’t care for Daphne yet when chips are down she comes through one way or another. I love the camaraderie between Layne, Serena and Harry. I figured out Jonah’s secret from the start. I found some of the elements of the story very confusing at times, even so Jim Heskett kept me turning the pages. I found the story full of action, mystery and suspense. My favorite thing is Layne’s relationship with Cameron his daughter. I’m not sure if I ever figured out what the villains were up to completely. Overall I enjoyed Knife Point and hope there is more to come. I read on Kindle Unlimited.
Knife Point (Layne Parrish #5), my 21st read from author Jim Heskett. I’m hooked! Reading the latest Layne Parrish book is a roller coaster, thrill a minute, can’t put down read! I read this in a matter of hours. Great characters, great story-line. A must-read. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
First thing, so you aren’t frightened off, you can certainly read this book as a standalone, although you will want to go back and read the others after you finish this. No spoilers in this review! A face from the past reappears in Layne’s life but denies any knowledge of their former relationship! Twists and turns and intrigue take you on a thrilling and suspenseful adventure that rivals the writing of any of today’s best selling authors. Of course, what kind of spy adventure would it be if the antagonist didn’t stick himself into places he has no business being! No shortage of this here! Retired isn’t a word in Layne’s vocabulary as he delves in to get to the bottom of some questionable circumstances also reuniting with people from his past. Go get this amazing read (and the others) and see why. You will not be disappointed! I received a complimentary copy of this book and am providing my unsolicited review.
Another great Layne Parrish story
So far having read all the Layne Parrish stories I was excited to see a continuation.
You do not necessary need to read the other books in the series to enjoy this one but you feel like you get to know the various characters more and more with each book you read. One thing I like about this series that none of the books ends in a cliffhanger and it shows the strength of the author’s writing that many of us are anxious awaiting the next one. Layne is shown as a caring father always concerned about his family but also a bit as a superhuman nonstop action spy even if he is retired, he always seem to be drawn back into the field.
I received an ARC from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. Layne Parrish has to be one of my favorite literary characters. He is the whole package – looks, integrity, skills, loyalty, etc. But the most impressive of his character traits is his love for his daughter. She is his world, and rightly so until you remember that she is not his biological child. But as he stated in a previous book, he took one look at her when she was born and fell in love. That love is one of the strong underlying currents in this story and it is so impressive; it makes the book for me. However, don’t think Mr. Heskett has gone all “touchy-feely”. This is still the typical Layne Parrish novel – action unending, twists and turns, and suspense. The book had my heart rate up and had me frantically turning pages to see what happened next. This has to be my favorite Parrish book and I can’t wait for Mr. Heskett to get the next one written so I can see what happens next. Oh, and don’t let that last sentence make you think it ends on a cliff-hanger; it doesn’t. I’m happy to say Mr. Heskett has never done that to my knowledge.
I’ve read all the “Layne Parrish” books and have enjoyed them all. This book added a little more dimension to the main character because it showed more of his family involvement and how difficult it is to keep the two lives he leads separately. Anytime you want a book filled with action but still gives you background you can understand, pick up Jim Heskett’s “Layne Parrish” or “Micah Reed” novels. You won’t be disappointed.
The story opens with Layne Parrish playing with his four-year old daughter, Cameron, and his ex-wife, Inessa, nearby. They are currently in Redding, California. But his trip to Redding was two-fold: his wife was here on a photo-shoot job so he gets the chance to visit his daughter. His other reason is to track down his former partner, who is now a missing shadow, Jonah “Thorny” Bramble. Layne wanted to know why his friend had disappeared.
But retired assassin Layne just can’t seem to stay retired as his former boss, Daphne (aka Control) is able to help Layne as he searches for his friend. There is so much action that you cannot predict what’s going to happen next.
But nothing is as it seems as Layne tracks down the reason his friend disappeared. Jim Heskett has again incorporated in his book a series of “interludes” which together create a back story on Layne and Thorny’s previous mission. The literary technique helps we readers to understand their relationship and ends revealing why Thorny intentionally disappeared after their last mission six years ago.
What a delightful read Knife Point turned out to be for me, and left this reader satiated after reading. Jim Heskett did a great job on writing main character Layne Parrish, who works to try to free up his old partner Jonah who was missing for years, from others controlling him. Smooth reading. Smooth story. I loved this book. Jim Heskett definitely at the top of writing skills Authors. Knife Point bears that out. NO SPOILERS. But I can assure you Knife Point witnesses to the fact that Jim Heskett delivers wonderful reads!! Well crafted plot and not enough stars to do justice to Knife Point by Jim Heskett. HIGHLY recommend Knifepoint. NO disappointments and a great read. ENJOY!!
