SPIN THE WHEEL. DATE THE GUY.Six years ago, Kitty Valentine took the book world by storm when her sweet debut romance hit number one on the New York Times Best Sellers List, which was followed by a string of successful releases. Her latest novel, however, totally bombs, causing her editor to suggest she write much sexier books. To Kitty, writing smut is the literary equivalent of stripping. But … literary equivalent of stripping.
But with no advance coming in and her royalties dipping to an all-time low, Kitty has no choice.
Armed with a hot-guy spinning prize wheel, made by her best friend, listing all the different types of men she will date and then write about, Kitty will be spinning–not stripping–her way back onto the best-sellers list.

We join romance novelist Kitty Valentine on her journey of self-discovery when the date picker has suggested she date a doctor for inspiration in her next novel. Kitty is a social awkward and quirky character. Kitty has previously written clean wholesome novels, but as her sales start to tank it is suggested she needs to spice up her writing style. This series covers Kitty’s dating life as she tries to find inspiration for her books. Kitty being the hopeless romantic she is, often finds her falling hopelessly in love
This was a fun and flirty read. There are several laugh out moments in this story. Kitty’s interactions with neighbor Matt is the perfect amount of humor and add enough angst to keep the story interesting. I do feel like Matt might be Kitty’s future HEA, but that is a hunch and does not happen yet in this story.
This is more chic-lit than romance as Kitty is on a journey of self-discovery to figure out her own HEA.
The Doctor in the story was slightly unremarkable. There was nothing about him that was extraordinary as far as his character. There really wasn’t a lot of chemistry between them and to be honest he was kind of a weak guy. I am glad that he is not Kitty’s HEA.
Kitty’s grandmother in the story adds a nice piece of sass to the story. I love her say what she wants attitude that comes from someone who has been around awhile. Grandmother’s cougar friends hitting on and touching Dr Jake was some of the best parts of the story.
I read this story as stand alone, I had not read the previous offering. There are one or two mentions of the character from that book, but I don’t feel like I missed anything by starting at book 2. Kitty’s character is very likeable, and you are rooting for her. Going in I did not realize this was a chic-lit story and not a romance, so I was a little disappointed. I like a HEA. The story is well done, with good characters. This was a 3.5/5 read for me. It was quick and fun but I really was left wanting more from the story.
In this second tale in the Kitty Valentine series, she sets her sights on dating a doctor. After trying to find a suitable guy online she stumbles across one on her own, Okay, she actually gets trampled by a dog but the end result is meeting Dr Jake Becker. The luscious, sexy ER doctor who attends her injury in triage.
It’s not usually in Kitty’s nature to just ask someone out but in the name of book research and an impending deadline, she has to step out of her comfort zone and be bold. It seems that Jake was just as interested in Kitty and a string of dates soon follows. Everything just feels so right with this man, he is a walking wet dream and being with Jake is more than she could have imagined. He is the perfect writing muse and the words are flowing effortlessly.
Just when if felt like things were getting serious between them the record scratches leaving Kitty feeling like she will never find the happy ever after she was hoping for. As per last time, her neighbour likes to offer his unwarranted advice and all it does leave Kitty frustrated with him once again, mainly because he is right.
I have to say I really loved Blake in the first story and I also really loved Jake. Jillian has really left things open ended with both of these guys so who Kitty ends up with could be any of them, including the Rockstar she dates in the next story. However, I’m also hoping that there will be one where Kitty Valentine dates a hot neighbor…
If you are looking for a funny and flirtatious, romantic read then spin the wheel and get yourself a date with Kitty. Oh and I must give a shout out to her Grandmother, she is hilarious!
Kitty Valentine Dates A Doctor is book 2 in the Kitty Valentine series by JIllian Dodd.
The series follows Kitty Valentine, who is this wholesome romance writer whose book sales were tanking so her publisher wanted her to “dirty” her writing up in her romances. So her series is covering her dating life. Book 1 was her dating a Billionaire and now book 2 picks up with her and a sexy ER doctor named Dr Jake Becker.
This is a standalone read that is sexy, funny, and quick romance read.
I did like Kitty’s neighbor Matt poking his nose and giving advice- which she didn’t ask for. It’s a journey that she’s on and I can’t wait to find out who she’ll end up with.
My Rating: 4.5 stars *********
Kitty Valentine is your typical romance author. She’s home, A LOT. She can be clumsy. She has an annoying, but honest best friend. And her neighbor Matt drives her nuts. She also needs some new book material. Thus, a dating profile and a few ridiculous dates have her about to give up. An unplanned ER visit brings Jake into her life. He’s gorgeous, genuine, and sweet. I actually love them together. But their romantic plans constantly get foiled. Can Kitty & Jake catch a break?
I really liked all of the characters in this book. And the author had me turning the pages to find out what happened next. I understand this is a series and this book was the first I’ve read by this author. An entertaining read. 3.5 stars
This is the 2nd book in this series. Kitty is a writer who pens wholesome romance stories, and when sales slump her publisher advises her to write more raunchy stories, so armed with her hot guy spinning wheel that her friend made for her, she takes a chance when she is injured and the sexy ER doctor Jake. This story is filled with witty banter and is a fun and entertaining read. Maybe Kitty will realise sometime that love is right under her nose, I do not think that will happen just yet as we are onto the Rockstar next. I recommend this for all readers.
I’m kind of disappointed when the book ended. I was so invested with Kitty and Jake’s relationship, then it’s done and she’s supposed to be dating and moving onto someone else, which is the next book. The book was fun, sweet and funny. But I kind of guess what’s going to happened in the future. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series to know if I guess it right
Light-hearted yet lots of heart!
So this series is fun and flirty. Kitty Valentine is an acclaimed author who hit a slump and to get out of it – her editor suggests she turn up the heat factor. So she decides to go on a dating binge to drum up story ideas.
This one revolves around a doctor. Not just any doctor…but a dreamboat!! Jake is just all that and you are so rooting for them to work out. However, I was also rooting for the neighbor and I can’t wait for a possible “Kitty Valentine Dates a Neighbor” or “Kitty Valentine Dates a Frenemy”. Matt definitely has to play a role in the merry go round of dating.
This one is bittersweet with a few tears. You have to hope that at the end of this journey…Kitty will find her HEA!
“How are you so smart about this? You’re not even a part of it, but you see it so much clearer than I do…It’s always easier to see things when you’re standing outside.”
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.
I am so in love with this series, which goes against everything I stand for because there is no HEA (as of yet).
Kitty is such a great character, she is funny and genuine and just everything you want in a heroine.
I absolutely love her relationship with her neighbor Max and I really think I need to see them end up together please and thank you.
As a single woman I love going on these adventures in dating with Kitty and cannot wait for some more!
**I was generously provided with an advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review **
This is book 2 in Kitty Valentine’s adventure of dating to help or write more of what her publisher wants. It’s funny and will have you laughing. This story is so realistic you can relate to whats happening to Kitty with things you have experience before. Can’t wait to read the next book and see who she will date next.
This series has been fabulous so far. This is definitely my new favorite summer series. It is so fun and flirty and an easy read for hanging by the pool. Jillian’s writing is always so descriptive and makes it easy to get lost in her character’s world. I seriously want to live in NYC now! I loved how we get to meet a member of Kitty’s family in this book and learn more about where she comes from. Although, I have to say I liked the billionaire from the first book better than the doctor. I am so looking forward to the next one!
So far I love the Kitty Valentine series. Had a little more trouble with this one, but regardless it was still very good and I’d recommend it.
Kitty has to find a doctor to date. Should be easy right? Not so much until she falls. Kitty has a heart of gold which easily can get you into trouble and heart broken.
This particular book was a lot sweeter than the first she seems happy and a new person then guess what Kitty Valentine dates a Rockstar next.
Very cute story, 5 hearts for this one grab this asap!
We follow Kitty on a dating experience for inspiration for her next book, trying a dating app, she goes on a few but they aren’t at all what they are cracked up to be. Until one fateful night after an accident she meets one hot, sexy one. Follow along on her dating experiences and sit back and enjoy what goes on during the dates!
If you are looking for a fun, summer read this is the series for you. In this installment of Kitty’s quest to write a new type of romance book, she seeks out a doctor…and boy, does she find what seems like the perfect one. Jake was a perfect hero muse for her new novel, but is he perfect for Kitty as well?
Kitty Valentine Dates a Doctor is the second book in this new series by Jillian Dodd. I haven’t as yet read the first book where Kitty dates a billionaire (but I most certainly will), so I am able to confirm that this book can indeed be read as a standalone.
I really enjoyed this story. It did take me a few chapters before the story grabbed my full attention but after that I didn’t want to put my kindle down. The purpose of Kitty dating a doctor is to gain material for the book she is currently writing and I loved this storyline. There were moments during this story when I laughed out loud as I really enjoyed the humour in it.
I adore Kitty. She is a successful romance writer who now, as demanded by her editor, has to add some ‘spice’ to her romance stories due to a slump in sales with her previous release. I absolutely loved getting to know her; she has a great personality and I could see us being good friends.
Jake is THE doctor and I’m surprised he’s able to get a correct pulse reading from his female patients. He is fun, sexy and caring – in fact I’d be constantly spraining a wrist just to catch a glimpse of him! I was a little jealous of how well Kitty and Jake were getting along, until I wasn’t. Then my heart ached for them both!
I cannot not mention Matt. I have loved witnessing the interactions between him and Kitty. I am secretly hoping that these two will get together in the end – What a great story that would be! I am certain we will see more of him throughout the series, and I’m looking forward to that just as much as Kitty’s future dates.
I am excited for the other books in this series to be released but while I wait, I can go back and read the first book that I somehow missed. I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy them just as much as this story.
I wish there were half stars as I really would say this book is a 3.5. I have not read the first book in the series but Kitty Valentine Dates a Doctor is a great short, romantic summer read. Kitty Valentine is a romance author who with a scheme from her best friend, spins the wheel of tropes to find who to date next to gather material for her next book. It’s fun watching Kitty look for a doctor on a dating app when really she just needed an ankle injury to land her in the ER to find Jake. While I wish the book ended with a HEA, only because I love my romance books to, I can’t wait to see which Rock Star she finds in her next adventure and who she will end up with at the end of this series!
Kitty Valentine is a series like no other with a romance writer going on different dates with different men in different careers to find inspiration for her next novel. It’s a creative idea and Jillian Dodd does a good job bringing her characters to life and making moments relatable to readers.
In this second installment of the Kitty Valentine series, Kitty finds Dr. Jake. I will admit, I still haven’t been able to connect with Kitty in this series yet. Book 1 was a struggle for me to get through, but Book 2 was a bit easier thanks to Dr. Jake, Kitty’s Grandmother, and Kitty’s neighbor Matt. I enjoyed the appearance of Kitty’s Grandmother and her nosy intervention in Kitty’s love life, reminiscent of my own grandmother and mother. Matt is the boy next door we’ve all fallen in love with, and for the life of me I just want Kitty to see that and quit this silly game so they can live happily ever after. Dr. Jake is a sexy saint of a man and I loved his introduction to this series as the ER doc who saves the day when Kitty is injured. If it weren’t for these three characters I don’t think I would’ve been able to get through or enjoy this book. I was able to connect with each of these characters in a way I haven’t been able to with the main character yet.
While I haven’t been able to connect with Kitty herself, Jillian does a wonderful job creating moments in this book that I see within my everyday life. It’s like flashes back in time and reflections of my present which brings a smile to my face. I wish I could see what everyone else does in Kitty, but in the meantime I’ll be thinking of dreamy Dr. Jake and cute neighbor Matt while looking forward to seeing more of Matt in the next book.
*3.5 stars*
When I started reading Kitty Valentine Dates A Doctor, I didn’t realize that it’s part of a series where Kitty dates all different types of men as inspiration for her books. I was expecting the usual Happy Ever After ending, but, of course, it doesn’t happen because Kitty has to be unattached to go on to find the next man to act as her muse. But even without the HEA, it’s a very cute story, and Kitty is a cute character.
It felt more realistic to me, less fantasy than other romances I tend to read. It’s totally easy to believe that even though these two people really care for each other, one of them just isn’t ready for a relationship, and he doesn’t want to hurt her while he works through his baggage. It seems like a very reasonable conclusion for two rational adults. In that way it was less an escape for me – which is usually why I read romances. I think there is a fine line between trying to keep things real enough to seem like they could happen – but at the same time ensuring that there is a guaranteed happy ending, which as we all know, is far from real-life.
Kitty Valentine Dates A Doctor falls into the sweet romance category for me. There wasn’t a ton of action between Kitty and Jake, they are continually cockblocked when things are about to get down and dirty! Part of me felt like I wanted to be reading the smutty book that Kitty herself is writing.
Kitty Valentine is an enjoyable read, although I typically would choose the smuttier, slightly less realistic stories, especially right now while I’m craving escape from what’s going on in the real world. But if you are looking for a fun, light, sweet story with funny and likeable characters, but not so many “juicy bits”, you’ll love Kitty Valentine Dates A Doctor.
