This talking cat has a murder to solve… But will his new human agree to play Watson to his Sherlock? I was just your normal twenty-something with seven associate degrees and no idea what I wanted to do with my life. That is, until I died… Well, almost. As if a near-death experience at the hands of an old coffeemaker wasn’t embarrassing enough, I woke up to find I could talk to animals. Or rather … to find I could talk to animals. Or rather one animal in particular.
His full name is Octavius Maxwell Ricardo Edmund Frederick Fulton, but since that’s way too long for anyone to remember, I’ve taken to calling him Octo-Cat. He talks so fast he can be difficult to understand, but seems to be telling me that his late owner didn’t die of natural causes like everyone believes.
Well, now it looks like I no longer have a choice, apparently my life calling is to serve as Blueberry Bay’s first ever pet whisperer P.I while maintaining my façade as a paralegal at the offices of Fulton, Thompson & Associates.
I just have one question: How did Dr. Doolittle make this gig look so easy?

This book by Molly Fitz had a very cute idea in it, which expanded into a full fledged entertaining and enjoyable cozy mystery type of story line. The character was simply darling and almost overly cute in her innocent actions and characteristics, and of course her animal speak. And, then there was the cat character that was so typical of how people think cats behave and think, spoiled, haughty and independent. And, then of course, there was the murder that only the two of them knew about, other than the killer that is. The identity of the killer was pretty much held out until the very end of the story, so the reader could guess almost all the way to the finish line as to who dunnit. All in all, I think this will be a most interesting and entertaining series to read. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems Books.
This book was written by an author who has obviously been owned by a cat at some point in her life. I’m not sure I can really comment on the mystery contained within this book. I was too distracted by the antics of Octavius Maxwell Ricardo Edmund Frederick Fulton to pay much attention to the investigation. Angie drove me a little batty, though. I thought she was too quick to jump to conclusions and was too determined overlook the obvious even when it was staring her in the face. I’m intrigued by this world the author has created and I will be interested to see where else the series goes.
What to say, what to say. Some of the things you can learn from a cat. It did not take long for Octo-Cat and Angie to become friends. I understand what it’s like to talk with your animal. I have a dog, she is not as vocal as a cat but I do understand her when she “talks” to me.
I really enjoyed the story. Not the death of course but the story line. I can see it. Cats are one of those pets who can be very annoying when they mew oy at you in that high voice. The cat is very quick to understand a lot. Smart, can think on the fly and has quick reflexes. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
This was a great first book in this new series. Octo-Cat is my favorite and it makes me think that is exactly how cats think in real life. I burst out laughing a few times reading this book. Alice I think has now found her calling. If you like cozy mysteries you will like this one with a twist, a talking cat. I look forward to seeing what Alice does with this new ability.

This story is full of entertaining characters. Angie has an accident at work and then is able to hear a cat speaking to her. Is she crazy? No one else can hear the cat talking, but she can hear him so plainly. When he tells her that his former owner was murdered, she knows that she has to help him figure it out. The cat is so very arrogant and paticular about his food and water. Will Angie be able to find the murderer before she is hurt? She has grown fond of the cat and wants to keep him. Is that possible?
Great series starter that definitely has me hooked. It’s entertaining and laugh out loud hilarious. Plot flows well and very interesting, never a dull moment.
Nice debut mystery with a heroine who can communicate with a cat.
Yes!! 5 Stars!!
I am giving this book 5 stars!
First of all, I just really enjoyed it and found myself smiling if not chuckling throughout the book!
Second of all, what a great idea to be able to hear what a cat is saying!! How fun is that?? I loved how Angie, the main character teaches Octo-Cat how to use the iPad. They are suppose to have a Facetime conversation only he is sitting on the iPad and she can’t see him!! Just like a cat to get comfortable…
Thirdly, i just found myself getting absorbed in Angie’s life, her thoughts, her work environment, who she suspects of the murder and just all around enjoyed her as a main character!
Fourthly, I enjoyed Nan! She is a great supporting character who will be cheering Angie and Octo-Cat on their adventures.
Lastly, I loved how creative the author was with how Angie got her special ability to hear Octo-Cat. A coffee maker for goodness sakes!
This is a pleasantly entertaining cozy mystery. There is drama but no real violence, no bad language and you get to suspend reality which is just plain fun!! I am an animal lover and love cozy mysteries with animals in them.
I look forward to future books!
It was adorable and I wished I could be the ‘Pet Whisperer’.
Loved it and have complete collection
I have been provided with a copy of Kitty Confidential by the author for an impartial review. This is the first book in the brand-new Pet Whisperer P.I. series and this was just such a great way to start off a new series. I just had so much fun getting to enter this world and meet these new characters. I just absolutely fell in love with these great characters and I loved getting to go along for the ride. I just couldn’t get enough of this story and I was sad to see it end. I will most definitely be reading the next book in the series.
This was an unusual book for me to read, especially since I’m not a cat person. I’ve read many of this authors books and have always enjoyed them. This was an ok book but I just can’t get into a talking cat. The story line was good and had some mystery to it. The author does a good job giving all the characters a unique personality even the cat. Not too often a cat helps solve a murder but that’s what happens in the book. After reading the will of the cat’s owner, the cat is left everything but what’s really unusual is the cat starts talking to the main character, from there the two of them solve what turns out to be a murder. If you like cats and cozy mysteries this is the book for you. For me, I’ll keep reading the author’s other books and skip talking cats.
The Case of the Caustic Cat
I have cats. I love cats. And, yes, cats absolutely talk to you. And yell at you. And say rude things. And then crawl in your lap purring. Well, yes, that does mean the laptop has to move . . . Turns out Octo-Cat is much the same sort of self-centered sweetie who connects with our heroine on a special level–and demands she bring to justice the killer of her previous person. What’s right is right!
OMG I loved this! A well written cozy mystery in which the lead female character can talk to the cat called Octo-cat ( I have always wished I could talk to my cat!! ) First In the series i cannot wait to read more and see how the characters develop!
I like the whole premise for the fantasy mystery. I wish I could talk to animals. The cat was fun. It is a cute, imaginative story. I suspect the writer will get better the more she writes. I really enjoyed the light reading. It made me smile. It was just plain fun.
I volunteer to read an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
Doctor Doolittle meets Nancy Drew in this lighthearted cozy!
Octo-Cat was the star of the show (and he totally knew it).
If you want a fun, clean read with a cantankerous cat and few complications, then you’ll love this book.
After having read Terrier Transgressions (Pet Whisperer P.I. Book 2) by Molly Firz I knew I had to read Book one in this series to see how it all began!
Two near death experiences which left her with the ability to understand and talk to cats–well one cat at least. This poor kitty knew his beloved mistress had been murdered–so when Angie Russo a paralegal to a law firm, collapsed at the
reading of a will (to which the cat was invited since he was getting the bulk of the money!!) they both realized that they understood each other. Well instead of being taken to a relative’s home–Angie convinced them to let her keep him for a while.
Now Octo-Cat (his full name as given by his former mistress is too long to write here) was spoiled rotten–Only Evian Water and Fancy Feast for him and only certain flavors—and he wasn’t giving up until his needs were met!! Hum-reminds me of my cat Baby. You gotta love this cat–he was downright ornery at times–then would snuggle up. He even learned to use an I-Pad so that he and Angie could converse while she was at work!
One thing for certain–both he and Angie were bound and determined to find the murderer. They even enlisted Angie’s grandmother. Now she is a character-and totally lovable!
Do they finally find the person who killed Octo-Cats mistress? Do they finally come to terms and learn to live together. Will they be allowed to?
This series is definitely a winner–I’m loving it!!
A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. A fun dialogue going on between Angie and a tabby she calls Octo-Cat who helps Angie solve a murder. Since Angie was the only one who could hear the car she had to pretend no one thought her crazy talking to a cat she found a way to converse with a twist. A good start to a fun series.
This was a great story. I was caught into the characters right from the beginning. It was definitely the definition of a cozy mystery. The story kept me reading and reading to solve the mystery but there was a lot of fun and humor intertwined with the the characters! I look forward to reading more!!!!
The book is a fun, quick read. While I liked the premises of the book I would have liked to see a bit more investigation done by both Angie and the cat. I would also like to have seen Octo-cat do a bit more in general. The mystery could have used more detail. Angie basically solved the murder by accident. The ending was cute.
