Until next time… Happy Reading!
This is my first read from this author and I enjoyed it very much. I’m really looking forward to Red and Bethany’s books.
A Fantastically Funny Romance
This was such a fun journey that flew by. The comedy worked beautifully, though there were serious bits and super hot bites that all conspired to keep me thoroughly entertained.
Loved the mains, written perfectly for each other. Aunt Agnes is a hoot, along with her menagerie. Looking forward to the brothers getting their HEA in the next books.
4.75 Stars
Harper is a romance author suffering from writer’s block.
Perfect timing, because her great-aunt is vacationing in europe and needs someone to babysit her house in upstate new york.
The perfect place for Harper to find some inspiration.
Maybe in all the animals she suddenly has to care for?
Maybe in the old diaries and papers she finds in the attic?
Maybe in the sexy farmer she saw in the cornfield?
But he’s not really all that nice!
Stone doesn’t like city folks coming into town and buying up real estate and tearing down historic buildings to build some modern whatnots.
But he’s so very intruiged by this beautiful city girl …
LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN!
Such an adorable Small-Town-Rom-Com!
I just loved reading this!
Full of hilarious moments and sexy moments and exciting mystery moments and author and animal moments.
I just adored Harper and Stone!
They’re perfect for each other – but Harper is only in town until her aunt is back. Right?!
But she’s been so inspired since she arrived. And she’s also falling for Stone and the animals and her new friends and the whole adorable town.
Great romance! Great cast of people and animals!
And there are lots of brothers and friends left to get their own story!
Can’t wait to hear more from Cash, Boone, Red & Bethany!
I also really LOVE the cover – the guy and the colors – totally my kind of thing!
And I SO want to eat some corn now!!!!
KISSING BOOKS was an adorable + funny + sweet small town love story! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Stone – he’ll be sold out in no time – and this one is MINE!
…also, if you’re weird like me…. the title. I kinda thought Books was the name of our hero, nope – it’s really about books – readable books. Harper is an author of romance – aka kissing books. And some of the prudish town seniors are not fans of ‘kissing’ in books! LOL!
What a fun story! Kissing Books has wonderful characters and an entertaining storyline. I plan to read more of this series.
Kissing Books is a fantastic contemporary romance by Cat Johnson. Ms. Johnson has provided readers with a well-written book and furnished it with a stellar cast of characters. Harper makes a spur-of-the-moment decision and volunteers to move into her aunt’s home while she’s away. Little did she know she was moving into a former funeral parlor or was going to be caretaker of a half a dozen chickens, a gang of cats and Petunia the pig. Stone is a local corn farmer that annoyed Harper at their first meeting. Harper and Stone’s story is packed with drama, laugh-out-loud humor, sexy bits and a touch of suspense. I enjoyed reading Kissing Books and look forward to my next book by Cat Johnson. Kissing Books is book 1 of the Smalltown Secrets Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.
So much fun! Funny, sweet and a little steamy and then we met the pig, the six chickens and a clowder of cats.
In this beautiful small town romance USA Today Bestselling author, Harper meets small town farmer, Stone while house sitting for her great aunt. These two couldn’t be more opposite, but are absolutely perfect for each other. Their first meeting wasn’t the best, but they soon come to learn they couldn’t be more opposite of what their initial first impressions made them believe a limit one another. This book has it all true love, mystery, suspense, and everything else you’d expect from a small town. Dive into Harper and Stone’s story to see what else they get up to for yourself today.
This is a book that I never wanted to end. I know the blurb was cute and comical, but the actual story was even better! It was believable, funny, witty and had me laughing (spitting) out loud! The characters (all but mom) were so much fun and with amazing personalities! I’m convinced that Harper’s wit is in direct line with the author who created her! Stone (as I fan myself) is a man that can craft anything, but apparently a relationship! And what can we say about Harper’s new friends, Red and Bethany, except they were the perfect new friends in a new town. Mudville sounds like an amazing place to visit, with the receptive people, their festivities and the historical factor.
I won a copy of KISSING BOOKS on a contest that was offered on Facebook. I have a feeling this paperback will eventually show some wear from reading it again and again!
Mudville 4 ½ stars – Mudville, with all it’s small town quirks and charm will entertain you. This book has humor, romance, a bit of steam and mystery. The characters and the animals will endear itself to you. City girl Harper meeting Farmer Stone makes for a very entertaining read. Can’t wait for Red’s and Bethany’s stories. [I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.]
Harper was experiencing a case of writer’s block and her mother wasn’t helping with her constant calling. However when she called about going to her aunt place it was a blessing in disguise for Harper. When they arrive they learn that Harper’s aunt isn’t dead like they had thought but injured in Europe and needs someone to house sit. Harper agrees which upset her mother but its ideal for her to be able to make her dead line. While living there she’ll have to take care of the cats, chickens and the pet pig. She met tone just before her mother went back home and keeps running into him around town. Sparks fly between them but he doesn’t think she’ll last long in Mudville so he just sits back to see what happens next with her. When she learns that the library doesn’t have romance books in it she does a free library up in front up her aunt property and Stone ends up helping her which is surprising. The major surprise comes when all the romance books disappear from everyone borrowing them. Will Stone be able to convince Harper to stay when her aunt returns? Can Harper see that she belongs in Mudville?
This is an amazing story that will draw you in from the first chapter until the last one. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

The characters of Mudville will have you laughing and embracing their antics as you get to know them through this delightful story. The main characters, Stone and Harper are captivated with each other right from the start but have communication issues when it comes to talking about their feelings to each other. When Harper agreed to housesit for her aunt she never expected that she would fall in love with the town and its people but she did. Now her aunt is home and she has to make a choice. Will she stay and become a part of the small town or return back to the city.

Good read. A few twists. Good dialogue. Good chemistry.
Romance novelist, Harper, falls hard for farmer, Stone, in this laugh out loud small town romantic comedy. Along with the laughter, readers will find that this couple packs the heat. There is also plenty of small town shenanigans, chickens, cats, a pig, and small town mysteries to be discovered. The town and Agnes Victorian house are a spectacular setting for the book. The Morgan family, and the brotherly banter, is fun and real. This was a very enjoyable read and now I want to read the rest of the series and find about more of Mudville’s secrets.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I really liked it.
Harper is an author who writes romance books and she is in a little bit of a slump. When she gets the option to house sit for a long lost relative she jumps at the chance. She may have wanted to ask a few more questions before she agreed but what a fun ride it was. From lost chickens, to scary noises in the attic to a pet pig named Petunia who happens to be the high school mascot she has her hands full. Then there is the grumpy farmer she met on her first day……
Stone HATES people from the city so when he meets Harper and her mom he thinks he has her pegged from the beginning. However once he gets to know her, he might have been wrong on his assumptions. I loved what he did with the library and wanting to help her stick it to the crotchety people in the town about her kissing books.
I really hope there is more in this series.
I just loved this charming romance. This small town romance is filled with heat, emotions, humor, sweetness and mystery. I thought that Stone and Harper were wonderful characters, They had such amazing chemistry and they caused plenty of sparks fly from both their flirting and their clashes. I thoroughly enjoyed is a unique, fun, quirky and simply delightful read. This is my frank, freely posted review.
