I met Marcus at a crematorium. That should have been my first clue to keep away. He was nothing I wanted. Yet, everything I needed. He was dark, dangerous. And I couldn’t stay away. Even when I wanted to. We made a deal—just our bodies. But lines got blurred. I asked for more than one night – I ended up asking for forever. What a mistake that was. What a mistake he was. Sometimes love burns. And … mistake that was.
What a mistake he was.
Sometimes love burns.
And sometimes kisses and lies are all you get.

Deliciously dark read. Two broken people broken in different ways. Chance meeting. Instant connection. They try to fight it!!! This story sucks you until the end.
I own and have read this author’s other works so I wasn’t surprised to find that I enjoyed this book. Marcus is the definition of anti-hero – you can’t help it but fall for him. Rochelle is the good girl whose light draws Marcus. The two couldn’t be more opposite. They meet at the most unlikeliest of places…a crematorium and from there, it’s an adventure. This is a well written book. You’ll enjoy this book if you like your hero slightly flawed and not perfect.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book
So I gotta say this book is messed up but it works with Rochelle and Marcus. Marcus has seen some ugly in his life and that’s what chose his career choice. Rochelle seems to have death following her and in turn, brings her to Marcus, the mysterious stranger. What starts as casual soon turns into so much more…
I don’t know what it is about the broken bad boy with a horrible past but I just instantly fall for them. Marcus, despite his choice in career, was easy to love. Sure he has some issues and commitment seems to be the biggest but deep down he does have feelings. He and his brother have an interesting relationship. Marcus protected him throughout their horrible childhood and no its little brother’s turn to make sure Marcus doesn’t fall in love. His brother hates Rochelle and the trouble that seems to follow her. She breaks down his walls though.. I can’t wait for the next book to see if sparks are still flying between the couple. This book was super hard to put down and it kept me turning the pages just to find out what happened next! This book was incredible!! One of the best I’ve read this year!
Intriguing and utterly fascinating, I devoured this book in 4 hours!
‘Kisses and Lies’ by TL Smith is a brand new dark and unique standalone you will fall for from the very first chapter.
It is funny, twisted, steamy, controversial at times, a novel you won’t forget easily.
This book contains hard matters that might not be suitable for all reader, it is dark and sometimes emotional, a journey of highs and lows, a representation of how different people deal with grief and pain and how they can affect you.
These characters meet in the most unique, intriguing and creative way I have ever read, intriguing you from the get-go, making you crave more.
Marcus is a dark and mysterious alphahole, he is hard and stoic, he is not afraid to voice his thoughts, he is intriguing and fascinating to the point that no matter what happens, you know your heart belongs to him.
He is surrounded by death, he works, lives, breathes death day in and day out, he is a little bit twisted but a whole lot weird but in the best ways possible.
His body is worthy of a God, his mind should belong to the devil and his soul is one of a fallen and broken angel.
Marcus is one of the best male characters I have ever had the pleasure to read, one that is so unique it’ll invade your life and sink his claws in your soul.
Rochelle is a bubbly good girl, she is talented and smart, beautiful inside and out, a determined woman with light radiating out of her.
She is funny and caring but also naive and too innocent at times, a girl that feels too much and tries to hide behind an excuse.
She is going through a lot of pain, a lot of grief, a lot of suffering that is changing her, almost as if she’s losing a bit of herself every day, her light is slowly going out.
So when she meets a man so very different from her, one that takes no b*llsh*t, one that doesn’t want more, one so dark and mysterious everything else fades away, she decides to throw caution to the wind and dive headfirst.
Their relationship is not conventional, it is a lot of hot and cold, confusing moment that could give whiplash to even the fittest of them all.
They meet at both the right and wrong time of their lives, they use each other to feel something and then they hide from each other when those feelings become too real.
They will have to learn how to trust, how to open up, how to live this life that is so great and yet so painful at the same time.
They will learn how to be with each other for who they are and not for who they want them to be.
This is an incredible book that will devour your soul from the inside out, break your heart countless of times, put in back together as many times and just show you the ugly side of the world.
A must-read for those who are not afraid to get their hands dirty, to fall for mean, cruel, broken but beautiful men and to feel for strong women who lose their selves and have to fight their way back to life.
I dont even know where to start with this review. I loved so much about it. It was dark and twisted and yet so engrossing. I didn’t want to put it down and finished it in a day.
Marcus is something else. T.L. Smith writes these dark and intoxicating leading men that you could easily hate if you didn’t love them so much.
Rochelle might have been very broken but she also managed to be a great character too.
Once again I highly recommend this book. But at this point I’m not sure there is any book by this author I don’t recommend, she’s just that good.
He tried to scare her off,
… but she drew him in anyway.
Is there any worse place than a crematorium, to find your next one night stand?? Rochelle had lost the two people who were closest to her, the pain was more than she thought she could bear. Until she looked up and saw the most beautiful man ever. While he had a face of beauty, he’d only known darkness. She couldn’t know that worse was to come.
Marcus sees death in life. He’s stoic, contained and in control behind his facade as strong as iron. He doesn’t give an inch, or share any semblance of feeling, until Rochelle drives him beyond the brink of his control. And it seems it’s only then that we got to see anything, well, ‘human’ from him. I loved it when Rochelle pushed his buttons, just to see any sort of reaction. And in spite of himself, even when he doesn’t understand where the need comes from, he’s continually in her orbit. Their relationship was heavy, dark, and sexy.
I was lulled along in this story of a broken kind of relationship, then, TL Smith absolutely ripped my heart out. I bled tears as surely as Rochelle’s own heart was breaking beyond repair. Ms Smith had ensured my investment of time and love into her characters meant I suffered alongside. And I fell so deeply in love with Marcus who said he couldn’t love, but couldn’t leave Rochelle alone.
So finally, when Rochelle sees death in life and it takes her over, Marcus realises she is lost, and not even he can save her. What drew him to her, is no longer there. The book came full circle, and I realised how much I loved the way that this book has been written.
This has got to be up there with some of the most broken love stories I have read lately. Marcus was beautifully dark, yet loved in spite of what he told his heart, even as he denied that such a feeling could take root in a barren space. 5 Stars to TL Smith’s gorgeous book, and oh holy hell, I’m looking forward to Kat and Blaze’s story
Kisses And Lies was a really good read that will have you turning the pages! Marcus and Rochelle’s journey was full of darkness, so many emotions, heartache and loss! Can opposites really attract? You will need to read to find out weather these two do! Enjoyed the other characters maybe there might be a story there?
Such a really great book. The blurb alone had me intrigued enough to want to read this and it did not disappoint. Rochelle and Marcus, these two I just liked from the beginning. Couldn’t put down at all and my emotions were all over the place with these two but it was sooo good!
Holy Mother of All that is Dark! This lady sure does nail the dark broken anti-hero!
And it is why I will keep picking up her books, time and time again.
T.L. Smith does not take it easy on her leads or her readers, and this story is no exception; Kisses and Lies will leave you gutted and restored in equal measure.
Rochelle, our dubious heroine, is broken emotionally at the beginning of this tale, and it only gets more complicated from there when she meets the shuttered, distant and darkly delicious Marcus Stone.
Though some events and timing in the story did leave me wanting a little more depth and fleshing out, this is characteristic of this author’s style and regardless, I still loved this story and all of it’s flawed damaged characters, and I can’t wait for Rochelle’s sister Kat’s story.
T.L. Smith is an author that I love to just get her books and go in blind. She always manages to take you on an intense ride. It’s dark, emotional, and always keeps you on your toes. She starts us off outside a crematorium, if this isn’t a sure sign that we are about intense. This book will trigger a lot of emotions but to me that is what I love about reading. Absolutely a must read!!
4.6 stars
“But love is like a tornado. No matter how many times you try to get away, it will spin you right back where you started.”
Rochelle is a “good girl,” until the death of her grandparents has her spinning out and dealing with immense grief. At the crematorium, she comes into contact with Marcus who is dealing with his own demons. There is something that pulls them together and it offers Rochelle a way to escape her pain. Marcus is everything Rochelle should not want and he tells her so. The problem is the heart wants what the heart wants. Can Marcus deal with his demons and realize that he is worthy of the love that is being offered? Will Rochelle fall so far down the rabbit hole that she will lose herself entirely or will she be able to let Marcus go? This is one storyline that is like a slow burn that develops heat as the pages turn that will have readers embracing the darkness along with Marcus and Rochelle as they forge their path. I look forward to reading the next book….that I hope will be Kat’s story. I volunteered to read an advance copy of this book.
I always enjoy a TL Smith book. Kisses and Lies is her latest book and it’s filled with swoon, frustration, and heartbreak. I love how we get a story with characters that are challenged with falling in love. I love Smiths signature writing style of edgy dark romance. She also, leaves us with wanting more of her secondary characters. I really hope we get more of younger brother Blaze. Marcus and his pretty girl Rochelle are worth a read.
4 Stars!
Whenever I can pick up one of Ms.Smith’s books I know I’m in for one heck of a journey and Kisses and Lies was exactly that! I was glued to my kindle from the get go and found myself finishing it in one sitting. I really enjoyed it!
Marcus and Rochelle’s journey wasn’t an easy one and it kept me on my toes throughout. I felt every bit of the emotions and my heart went through it all with these characters. I wasn’t sure which direction this story was going to go.
With Kisses and Lies, Ms.Smith created a different kind of read that will keep you hooked from beginning to end. I’m still thinking about this story! I can’t wait to read what she comes up with next!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the author*
Rochelle is a good girl tired of being a good girl. Marcus is a good guy with a bad boy’s rep who thinks he can’t do love, isn’t deserving of it. How can these two possibl be a thing? Make a thing work?
Well, they didn’t really make it work for most of their story because there’s so much push and pull. But honestly, I loved this story. It’s delicious and sexy and a bit dark. Not truly dark, but not bright and light by any means. I guess you could call it grey, and angsty and yummy. I love how this dysfunctional couple made it through to the other side, after having fought so hard for each other, for their love.
Kisses and Lies is another amazing story by TL Smith where she gives you twists and turns and has your head reeling. Marcus and Rochelle will take ownership of your heart however at times you are frustrated with his bad boy attitude. Two broken souls who take an emotional journey of heartache and loss to find the light that will give them their forever. A story that will have you gripped to the pages and lost in the words.
Kisses and Lies is another dark and gritty read. This book will leave you wanting more after you have finished reading the book. I really enjoyed this dark and twisted tale of enjoyment. I could not put this book down it kept me glued to the pages and enjoying in one setting. Kisses and Lies is about Marcus and Rochelle they meet at a crematorium. Things start to heat up between the two of them craving for more.
Kisses and Lies by T.L Smith is a quick and enjoyable read. Marcus is dark, and seems very closed off and Rochelle is a good girl. They have the classic opposites attract relationship. The story flowed well and the chemistry between the h/H is fire.
Kisses and Lies was amazing! Marcus and Rochelle were amazing, and their story was brutal. Kisses and Lies is the perfect example as to why I have to read everything she writes.
Marcus is one of those guys you hate to love, and love to hate. I’m not sure which I spent most of my time doing. He views himself as bad and doesn’t want to taint Rochelle. The darkness he has inside of him most do not understand. Rochelle meets Marcus in a crematorium where he works. Rochelle is dealing with pain from the loss she has suffered and it’s changing her.
Marcus walks away, but fate had other plans and brings them back together. Rochelle’s friend takes her to a party and Marcus is there. He tried to stay away and do the right thing, but he isn’t walking away a second time.
Rochelle cannot help but falling for Marcus, while Marcus feels he cannot love. The push, pull of their relationship had me hooked. The chemistry they had jumped off the pages. I could not get enough of these two and their broken relationship.
Smith left me feeling all kinds of different emotions with Kisses and Lies. T.L. Smith delivers another 5 star read. The plot amazing, the characters perfectly broken, the writing fantastic. I loved every minute of Kisses and Lies.
T.L. Smith never disappoints and Kisses and Lies is EVERYTHING!! I couldn’t get enough of the banter between Marcus and Rochelle. Rochelle is going through a lot of changes in her life and after her grandparents pass that throws her for a loop. She meets Marcus the day her parents are making the funeral arrangements for her grandparents. Marcus, the broody alpha who doesn’t have time nor wants a relationship is intrigued by the hot mess that is Rochelle that is literally laying in the middle of the street. These are total opposites but their chemistry is FIRE!! This story had my emotions all over the place. One minute I’m crying, then laughing, swooning, crying again and mad as hell. I didn’t want to put the book down. This is one of my favorites so far!!
Rochelle has just suffered a terrible loss when she meets Marcus. The attraction is immediate on her side but will she act on it? Marcus hasn’t had an easy life and tends to distance himself from people but will that change with Rochelle?
