Logan Quinn was trying to kill me.My Spartan classmate relentlessly pursued me, swinging his sword at me over and over again, the shining silver blade inching closer to my throat every time. A smile tugged up his lips, and his ice-blue eyes practially glowed with the thrill of battle. . .I’m Gwen Frost, a second-year warrior-in-training at Mythos Academy, and I have no idea how I’m going to … idea how I’m going to survive the rest of the semester. One day, I’m getting schooled in swordplay by the guy who broke my heart—the drop-dead gorgeous Logan who slays me every time. Then, an invisible archer in the Library of Antiquities decides to use me for target practice. And now, I find out that someone at the academy is really a Reaper bad guy who wants me dead. I’m afraid if I don’t learn how to live by the sword—with Logan’s help—I just might die by the sword. . .
Praise for Touch of Frost
“An intriguing start to an exciting new series!”

I am loving this series and reading them way too quickly! Kiss of Frost picks up in Gwen’s second year training to be a warrior at Mythos Academy. I love this world that Jennifer Estep has created. It feels real and dangerous yet playful and fanciful. We’re following high schoolers and their typical drama while also on a quest to stop another war from breaking out. I’m liking that Gwen is picking up a rag-tag group of friends along the way. I also enjoy the bits of romance sprinkled in throughout the action and adventure!
Talk about having a bad day…well, Gwen’s had a really bad and then some. It starts with someone trying to run her down while at her grandmothers, then a bolt barely misses its mark in the library – a couple of inches off and it would have done some serious damage; as in killed her. Hesitant with what to do, thinking no one will believe her, she keeps it to herself (well from the teachers, she does confide in her best friend). She also has a not-so-great run in with Oliver, another Spartan and one of Logan’s closest friends, who is also helping with her extra warrior training.
Talked into going to the Winter Carnival by her best friend, Gwen heads off on the ski trip with Daphne, Carson, and the rest of the school. Tired of being ignored by Logan and having his ‘girlfriend’ thrown in her face, along with his friends picking on her, she’s fed up and lashes out on the bus to the resort. Her hostility is met by glares and whispers and she realizes she’s off to a great start for the weekend. Trying to get ahold of her anger and resort herself she happens to meet a guy while checking in from one of the other academies – and he seems really interested in her. Thinking her weekend might actually be looking up, she tries to get on board with the fun and activities with her friends. She learned a new thing about her powers; which was cool to see and she actually starts to have a good time – especially with Preston (the new guy) taking an interest. Of course, Logan doesn’t like the new dynamics and he and Gwen go at it again leaving her more hurt and confused than ever over their complicated relationship (or lack thereof).
Things go from bad to worse when she’s stalked by a Fenris wolf on the mountain, along with an avalanche almost killing her. From everything happening, when she takes a break to let everything settle, she realizes that she has to do some investigating. I enjoyed seeing her take the initiative here, instead of complaining and sulking she takes action. Granted that does not turn out the way she envisioned but it was a step in the right direction. Things get really hairy here and it jumps to nonstop action and it’s a pretty cool ride. It was great to see Gwen put her new abilities to the test and use them to save herself and her friends. After it was all said and done, I enjoyed the heart to heart she and Oliver had and the sweet, aww moment with Logan. Looks like things are finally heading in the right direction for the Gypsy girl. Looking forward to seeing how things progress and if she’ll finally get the guy.
A great book that has been wonderfully narrated. The characters that make up the world of Mythos Academy of engaging and lifelike. I like that none of them are perfect. That they have fears, and dreams, attractions, and doubts.
Gwen’s circle of friends is slowly growing. Unfortunately, so is the amount of people who would like nothing better than to end her life. As she grows in strength, both physical and mystical she also gains more responsibilities. I can’t wait to discover what adventures she will tackle next.
This series is becoming one of my favorites. I highly recommend it, but with the warning of its addictive properties.
