In this second of the sultry, Western-set Coming Home series from New York Times bestselling author Harper Sloan, Quinn Davis might finally have a shot at her own happily-ever-after–but will she let love in, or will she tell it to go ahead and kiss her boots? Quinn Davis prefers to live her life quietly. She’s the stereotypical tomboy with two overprotective big brothers who have always been … have always been there to protect her, especially from devilishly handsome cowboys with silver tongues. That is, until Tate Montgomery comes riding into town. Their first meeting, however, is far from something out of a fairy tale and only further convinces Quinn that men aren’t worth her time.
The only place Tate Montgomery ever truly felt at home growing up was during the long, sweltering summer months he spent at his Gram and Paw’s farm in Pine Oak, Texas. Now, Tate has returned to his childhood sanctuary seeking a fresh start–but if he’s being entirely honest, he’s not just back for the wranglers and Stetsons. During those summers, Quinn was a friend-turned-young-love who Tate lost when life threw him a curveball and he cut all ties to his past; but all it takes is one glance at the raven-haired beauty he did his best to forget for him to realize just how much he’s been missing….more
Kiss my Boots, the second book in Harper Sloan’s Coming Home Series, is another page-turner. Quinn Davis and Tate Montgomery’s characters are dynamic. As in the author’s usual fashion, the sex scenes are tastefully executed—steamy hot! And the setting is superbly crafted.
For me, I’ll admit that Quinn and Tate’s storyline was not as compelling as Leighton and Maverick’s. Tate’s character wasn’t as likable—the rich kid capitulating to his father. Years later, he comes back into town with the excuse: I did it to save you.
That said, the author envokes emotion throughout the novel. I enjoyed the read. Five stars.
I’m a huge Harper Sloan fan and I loved the first book in this series. I couldn’t wait to jump into this second chance romance with Tate and Quinn’s story. Certain parts of their story felt a bit repetitive. It kind of felt like they were sorting through the same issues over and over again.
One thing I love about second chance romances is watching them work their way back to one another. And once we learn Tate’s reasons for staying away, I honestly felt like I’ve would have done the same thing in his situation. I appreciated his honesty with her about it all and was thankful that Quinn didn’t give him the run of the mill to make him grovel for so long.
But I understood Quinn’s reason for her lack of trust in Tate. She seriously suffers from abandonment issues with not only Tate, but from her mother and brother. It was justified, but I loved watching her development and taking these issues head one….instead of running from them.
The bit of drama, I definitely saw that coming and just wish it never did. But I can’t stay that I didn’t mind the way that Quinn handled it 😉 Never mess with a country girl and her man, eh?
This was definitely a solid read, great small town second chance romance to absolutely adore!
Kiss My Boots is the second in the Davis sibling series, and it’s a great one. I don’t like it as much as I loved Lost Rider, but I still found it sweet and sexy and Quinn is even more interesting in her own story.
Quinn and Tate had been best friends since they were young. They’d spend every summer together when he was at his grandparents’. And then the rest of the 10 months of the year they’d be on the phone together, texting, etc. When they were teens they finally consummated their intense attraction and started planning their future together. All they had in front of them was a shiny bright future where he’d go to med school and she’d take over running her family’s garage. But then boom, one day it was gone and they were no more. Until 9 years later one of her mechanics tells her some guy called. She knew before she even saw the piece of paper with Tate’s name and number on it who it would be and it scared her because she never thought she’d hear from or see Tate again. But Quinn is a Davis, and she’s tough, so she calls him and puts him in his place and lets him know that yes, she’ll restore his grandpa’s truck, but he’ll only be talking to her mechanics, never with her, he has no place in her life now and he’ll have to just deal with it.
But, she doesn’t realize that Tate’s coming back home to stay and that he’s determined to at least see if they can be friends. Right…friends. Yep, sure.
Quinn and Tate have got a long way to go, though. First, she’ll have to be told why he cut her off 9 years ago. Then she’ll have to process it and get over the pain. Tate has a lot of making up to her to do. She’ll have to deal with the abandonment issues her mother and Tate have left her. And she’ll have to deal with two overprotective brothers who just don’t want to see her hurt again. Thank God she has Leigh and that their friendship is as solid as it ever has been. Because she’ll need to lean on her in order to get through the ride Tate will take her on as they finally get their chance to have a future together.
The only issues I had with Kiss My Boots are that I don’t like the way Tate dealt with leaving Quinn back in the day. I won’t say why, I’ll just say that it was more than a little weak of him. Yes, he was a teenager, and he was in a bad position, but he could have explained why without or at least before, cutting Quinn out of his life so completely. The way he went about it was cruel, really cruel. And if I’d been Quinn, I’d have made him work a lot harder to gain her forgiveness. Not because he disappeared, but because he didn’t give her an explanation before doing so. He owed her at least some groveling and he didn’t really do much of that. He also wasn’t quite alpha enough for me. He’s sweet, though, and pretty damn sexy.
Quinn, though, was the real star here. She’s everything she was in Lost Rider – funny, tough, and most definitely a hell-raiser, and here in her own story, she’s more developed and even more interesting as we get her backstory and her day to day thoughts. I’m so glad she got her love back and it was awesome seeing Maverick and Leigh and Clay again. Can’t wait to read Clay’s story – Cowboy Up!
Sometimes a girl just needs to talk about her man problems to a friend, “he may have tried to stop me, but he didn’t get past the porch. I reckon that’s because he realized he was wearin’ nothin’ but his tight-as-he** briefs, a devil-smile, and an erection.” Tate sure is sweet with his words, “I’m two seconds away from comin’ in my pants, Quinn. Let me up before the front of my jeans are just as wet as my ***.” I adored this book, Tate was dreamy and Quinn that girl was a hoot.
I love Harper Sloan and I love this series! I even love this book!!! That being said, I felt that at times the dialogue was a little too countrified! I know it was supposed to be that way, but in this humble reader’s opinion it was sometimes more confusing than quaint. Aside from that, I loved pretty much everything about this story!
I loved that Tate was willing to sacrifice his happiness for those he loved, and that he never stopped loving Quinn and made his way back as soon as he could. I loved the depth of feeling Tate was unafraid to show.
I loved Quinn, her love for her best friend, the absolute and over-the-top love she had for her brothers and vice-versa, the vulnerability she tried so hard to hide, and so much more!!!
This is the first time I have ever rated a Harper Sloan book anything less than 5 stars, and I almost went to three, that’s how discombobulated I felt at times while reading this book. More than once I had to read a passage several times. That might have almost been acceptable if it had only been during Quinn’s parts, but not when it was Tate’s. And even with Quinn, I felt it, at times, made her seem less that what she was, a very smart, strong woman who had been damaged by some of the circumstances of her life but was trying every day to be more.
I am very much looking forward to Clay’s story, but even more I am looking forward to Ms Sloan getting back to her Hope Town series!!!
OMG! Another beautiful second chance romance by Harper Sloan. I love the Coming Home series and Kiss My Boots was no different. I was beyond excited to read about Quinn, the baby sister of Davis family. She is a tomboy who runs her own mechanic shop, but has a sweet girly way about her. I loved Quinn in Lost Rider and was excited to read her book next.
Quinn is someone I could’t help but love. She is a firecracker and says the most outlandish things that has me laughing so hard. As the youngest and only girl Davis child she strongly relies on her brothers for strength and values their advice. The relationship between her brothers is very strong and I truly love this about the series. But Quinn is also vulnerable because she has abandonment issues from when her mother walked out on the family when she was just a baby. In Lost Rider she learns things about her mother that nearly shatters her. When the love of her life who walked out of town and broke her heart is coming home, Quinn is in freak out mode. Tate Montgomery has one thing on his mind, winning back the woman that he loves.
I loved this romance. It is such a sweet second chance romance and Tate and Quinn are so damn perfect for each other. I loved seeing Quinn let go of all the hurt and open herself up to starting new with Tate. I loved that he knew exactly what he wanted and didn’t hesitate to tell anyone who asked. He went out of his way to speak with Maverick and Clay about his relationship with Quinn and he was a strength by her side when she needed him the most.
I could not have been happier with this book. I really loved it. I am beyond excited that I’ll finally be getting Clay’s book.
Kiss My Boots is the second book in the Coming Home series and can be read as a standalone. The main characters Quinn and Tatum have a history that was cut short by Tatum’s dad. Years later, Tatum is ready to go back home and claim Quinn because after all, SHE IS HIS! I liked the characters and enjoyed the parts in this story that gave us Tatum and Quinn’s interactions. I enjoyed Tatum’s character a lot because he knew what he wanted and wasn’t scared to go after it; it may have taken a few years for him to work through some things but he was determined. There are secrets that needs to be revealed and Quinn and her brothers need to know. Quinn was an okay character for me. I wanted to see that strong willed character that everyone claimed her to be and I only saw her appear once; I was a little disappointed in that. However, I loved that her job was an uncommon job for women when it comes to books. I love that she was a tomboy in a way. I also enjoyed the closeness she had with her brothers Clay, Maverick and Maverick’s wife Leighton.
There were also things I disliked about this story. I found the story to be slow at it seemed to move at that pace throughout the whole story. I also thought there were a lot of unnecessary conversations and words. At times, I wondered if the author just added things to make the story longer and in a way I felt as if sometimes the unnecessary words and conversations hurt the story in a way because it made the story drag out. Also, although I knew the unnecessary drama with Ella was bound to happen and that also could have been avoided or left out. It truly added nothing to the story. She should have been forgotten in the beginning of the story where Tate left her.
All in all, this book was an okay read for me. I really enjoyed the ending; it was sweet. I think I would have enjoyed the story more if some things were left out. I think that would have improved the story’s flow. However, I still recommend readers giving this book a try because although it wasn’t a top read for me, it just my be one for you.
Let me start by saying that fifty percent into the book I was thinking, “this book is missing the Sloan Signature”. What is the this signature? Heat. Harper Sloan is an author that provides gives you hot scenes from start to finish. Then I put myself in the mind set of the characters involved, and I now perfectly understand why she needed to delay the heat factor.
Tate returns to Pine Oak after nine years. He’s coming back to a town and claiming the heart of the only woman he loved, Quinn. The thing is, he left her and gave no explanations. No reasons. So for them to get back to where they once were, they’ll need to remember their past and fight for their future.
When I fully understood the emotional battle between Tate and Quinn I see why their connection needed to be a slow build up. Harper Sloan did right by these characters and will take you on a journey about love, second chances and family. The Davis family is slowly becoming whole as they open themselves to their loved ones and themselves.
I seriously, SERIOUSLY loved this book, this series. I cannot wait for the final Davis member to get his happy ending. He deserves it so much. This book is just added hype to what’s to come.
