From bestselling author Ella Fields comes an all-new, turbulent, new adult romance.Dashiell Thane wasn’t a nice guy.He was an abrasive, demanding, conniving, intolerable brat. Yet somehow, we’d been best friends our whole lives. Until our senior year when I finally decided to dip my toes into the dating pool. All it took was one kiss for jealousy, lies, and betrayal to sweep in and propel us … to sweep in and propel us heart first into dizzying, hostile depths.
You’re not supposed to kiss your best friend.
You’re definitely not supposed to kiss your best friend while you’re dating someone else.
And the absolute worst thing you could do is fall for your best friend.
Unless, of course, you want to ruin everything.

Kiss and Break Up
Ella Fields
I love YA. There’s a beauty in the teen drama that lure me. That’s why, and after reading (and loving) the blurb for Kiss and Break Up, there was no way I wouldn’t read the book. And how glad I am to have done it.
Kiss and Break Up is fascinating. I can’t say enough how much I adore when secondary characters have relevance to the story. Of course the focus are the main characters, here Dash and Peggy, but the other characters were as well developed as the protagonists. Their stories are so interesting and compelling that, if Ella ever decided to write them, I would gladly read them.
Dash and Peggy are strong, lovely and unique characters.
KABU is a complete, well written book with awesome characters, a great pace and a satisfying dose of drama.
I dare say that if you read KABU, you’ll fall in love with Dash, Peggy and the book itself.
I can’t not mention the cover, what a beautiful thing.
Thank you, Ella Fields.
Thank you for generously providing me this ARC in exchange of a honest review.

Kiss and Break Up
Ella Fields
Eu adoro o gênero jovem adulto (young adult, YA). Há uma beleza no drama adolescente que me atrai. Por isso, e depois de ter lido (e amado) a sinopse de Kiss and Break Up, não teria como eu não ler o livro. E como estou feliz de tê-lo feito.
Kiss and Break Up é fascinante.

I loved this new YA romance from Ella Fields. Peggy and Dash have been best friends since birth and they have the kind of witty repartee that you could spend countless pages reading. I loved Dash’s irreverence, teen arrogance and especially his protectiveness over Peggy. I cannot wait for more installations in the Magnolia Cove world, especially for Lars and Daphne whose story was set up in KABU and left me wanting so much more!
*WARNING: this review contains blasphemy and bad language. If you can’t deal with that, move along – it’s about to get very sweary up in this motherfucker*
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD…
I need a stiff drink, some kind of therapy and a fucking smoke after reading this!
I’m no stranger to Ella Fields’s artistry. She has a gift – one she uses to rip you apart, stomp on vital organs and then (some how) piece you back together. This book was no exception.
“Love, I’d discovered, was something that multiplied. With every kiss and every touch, it continued to change shape as we continued to fall”.
SERIOUSLY!? How can someone write such perfection?
So many quotes like this throughout the book that I was addicted.
I needed the next page more than my morning coffee. Which, (by the way) is now only 3 hours away because… well, I couldn’t sleep until I finished. I have discovered there is indeed a 4am
Peggy – so sweet, innocent and so under-fucking-prepared. It was glorious to watch her grow, watch her fall. Even the heartache was beautiful.
Dash – ugh. I can’t even begin to describe my feelings for him… He screwed with my head and broke my fucking heart… wait, I mean Peggy’s heart.
I’m not completely sure I’ve forgiven him for the shitstorm he created.
But I love him.
How could you not when he says sweet things like:
“No time with you is wasted even when we’re breaking”.
POOF! There goes my panties…
There are not enough stars (or profanities that I can spew) to express my deep appreciation and love for this story.
If you haven’t read it, you are missing out on some magical fucking shit right here
Damn this book is sooo good. I absolutely love and enjoyed every second of it. Childhood friends turn to lovers and so much angst, confusion, passion, bad decisions and heartbreak in between made this story that more addictive. I have been fan of Ms. Fields books for almost an year now and she never disappoint.
I was grinning like an idiot after finishing this book. It made me so giddy. I couldn’t put it down and omg DASH yumm… cocky, protective, hot, bold and tad bit asshole lol. He made me swoon one moment and then another I wanna smack his head. And omg i loved how Peggy made him grovel. You go girl!
Kiss and Breakup is an amazing NA angsty high school romance that is swoony and gave me all the feels.
Cant wait to dive in book 2 of this fantastic series!
I am late to the game with reading Ella Field’s books but in all honesty, she is a new to me favorite author. I devoured 2 of her books in one weekend. This one did not disappoint. Who doesn’t love a friend’s to lovers book? I was hooked from the beginning and felt all of the characters’ emotions throughout. Feeling what they’re going through always gets me. A phenomenal read!
*4-4.5 Stars*
I’m fairly new to Ella Fields books, having only read a couple before this, but I enjoyed those quite a lot. When I started this book I wasn’t quite sure if I even liked any of the characters, and to be honest, I’m still a bit unsure about some of them.
I really really disliked Dash at the start, and whilst he grew on me, I don’t agree with a lot of the things he does. There’s a fair bit of angst in this and it really kept me going. Plenty of high school drama and life drama thrown in as well, and not just for our main characters. Some interestingly real issues dealt with in this. Peggy’s friends are interesting and with everything that happened between them, I’m keen to read their stories and see how they play out, now that the foundation has been laid for those.
Even though I wasn’t sure how I felt about the characters and the high school antics (and that might be my age talking here, as the older I get, I probably don’t connect with the younger stories as much), I still found myself hooked and looking to pick my book up every chance I got.
Enjoyed this and looking forward to getting a chance to read the rest of the series.
2.5 high school stars
So this book is full of drama . And if you are not in the mood for drama be warned there’s lots .
There’s naive and innocent Peggy and her blunt experienced best friend dash – then Byron the OM a whole lot of teenage “oh what does he mean when he says let’s hang out” along with he kissed her she kissed him and damn he slept with her and someone walked in on it….
then a whole lot of groveling before h and H finally get together .
This book has its moments that were sweet and moment that were funny but I just found there was too much…..drama for my liking .
Kiss and Break Up by Ella Fields is a challenging and thought-provoking romance. Although the book is a clear friend to lovers romance, even the most jaded readers will have their interests piqued at some of the other issues that arise from this love story.
The novel, a complete standalone, with familial ties to the author’s previous books can, begins with insight to the life of teenager Peggy Newland and her uncanny friendship with childhood friend Dashiell ‘Dash’ Thane. She is your typical teenage girl worrying about personal issues, boys and high school. Well, probably more about boys, considering the only boy she’s had any experience with in any way is her asshole best friend, Dash. Their friendship is weird but it works and I love their banter and how strong their relationship is.
A book full of torturous angst, unbeknownst to Peggy in the beginning, Dash had warned off all the boys in town away from her. But until one boy dares to go against his orders, both friends go through some altering realizations. Because Peggy has absolutely no experience, she is left with no choice but to turn to her best friend for ‘practice’. This is the beginning of the end; sexual chemistry and hidden feelings are awoken, jealousy gets out of hand and hearts are torn with tough decisions. This book is a prime example of angst, love, drama, and friendship. My heart was so torn yet so full of love, emotion, and heartache. I couldn’t put it down. Every word was like crack and the closer I got to the end, the more panicked I got because I couldn’t imagine reading any other book that wasn’t about them.
It’s the perfect coming to age romance and I definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good romance story. We did see some issues and possible sparks arise between some of the minor characters and fingers crossed we get some more books in the future.
Ella Fields is a master at writing YA stories with alpha jerks that you can’t help but love. Although this story takes place in high school, the characters are so complex and well written that you tend to forget that they’re barely 18. Dash and his Freckles have been life long best friends who are forced to deal with grown up feelings of love and betrayal. Amazing story, I couldn’t put it down. The supporting characters have some interesting stories to tell too, so I only hope to see more books from this world.
I enjoyed reading Kiss and Break Up. This is a sweet story about two best friends who feel more than just friendship for each other. Having known each other since they were babies, taking a risk and following their true feelings was never going to be an easy decision to make and I understood their struggles because losing your lifelong best friend is not something that anyone wants to chance.
I had mixed feelings for Peggy and Dash throughout the book. I understood their reasons but didn’t always get the way that they behaved but then again, they are teenagers and they each have had different experiences when it comes to dating. I could see that they were perfect for each other and I hoped that in the end they could overcome the obstacles standing in their way. Peggy and Dash drove me crazy at times but overall, I really liked their personalities. I knew Dash’s heart was in the right place though his actions at times were not – it did make good reading though…. even when I wanted to throttle him!
I do love that although this is Peggy and Dash’s story their friends have been great secondary characters with lots of drama happening amongst them too! This has left me wanting to read Lars and Daphne’s story and even more so Willa and Jackson’s. I do wish that there had been a little more to this story however, something to grab my attention immediately and hold it throughout.
This is my first Ella Field book and I will definitely continue reading the rest of this series. Kiss and Break Up receives 3.5-4 stars from me and a recommendation for you to read this.
By definition, friends to lovers, especially in high school, will be full of angst. Throw in the “not so nice guy” Dash and the sweet, almost too desperate Peggy and you have a recipe for disaster. Well not quite that disastrous, but this IS high school, and while nearly adults, they still have some childishness within them. Should you ever “practice” kissing with your best friend? Kissing sometimes leads to feelings and feelings can eventually destroy a longtime friendship if those feelings are not going in the same direction. Dash will need to find a new way to communicate his care for his friend and Peggy will need to understand that how Dash shows he cares may be unconventional, but it doesn’t mean he cares less than the guy with flowers and gifts.
The first book I read from this author I just kind of fell into it Suddenly Forbidden and I loved it so much I ended up reading the entire series. I don’t shy away from taboo subjects and I love all age range of stories was ready to dig into this new one.
Peggy and dash were adorable and at times, very angsty! Childhood best friends to lovers is beyond my favorite trope so no surprise I loved them. Willa also caught my eye despite her having very few scenes. I can tell she’s gonna be my favorite magnolia cove girl and I hope she gets a book with Jackson I would so read it!!
This is one of my favorite books I have read this year! I love the friendship between Dash and Peggy. I could feel the angst, heartbreak, and love between the characters. I was captivated by this book from the beginning. Dash and Peggy have been best friends their entire lives. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!
*Magic Beyond The Covers Book Blog*
You know how the story goes…best friends since they were in diapers, Dash and Peggy agree to something of a “best friends with benefits” situation in order to gain Peggy some sexual experience before she gets her first boyfriend at age 17.
What follows is a series of events featuring light angst, young love, loads of confusion, and teenage drama. I really liked it, it was just what I was looking for.
While I was rooting for Dash and Peggy from the get go, I didn’t like how she handled some things. What I thought was going to be a love triangle was more of her torturing both Dash and Byron. Dash may have deserved it but Byron I felt bad for (in the beginning at least).
I had a love/hate relationship with Dash. I adored his relationship with Peggy but he truly had no shame.
Example:
“I’m not your girl.”
“then quit looking at my body like you want to lick it.”
“You’re so full of yourself.”
“You can be full of me too, if you’d just forgive me.”
OH. And THE GROVEL. This book gave good grovel, I loved that Peggy didn’t forgive Dash whenever he messed up (even though technically they weren’t together).
In the end, Dash won me over…adorable jerk.
This was an amazing read and I have found myself going back to reading this book just for certain scenes. Ella Fields always delivers when it comes angst filled books and I just love it. Now, it did not beat Pretty Venom for me but there is a rumor that the next book in this series Forever and Never has more angst than Pretty Venom, I am ready! This book was absolutely amazing! It will definitely be in my top reads for 2019. This was such an amazing read for this year! It is one of my only five star reads and I am so happy. Lately, I’ve been rating around 4 or 3 stars and this was just a breath of fresh air!
Man, talk about angsty and all those FEELINGS! This is a must read, you guys. One of my top reads for 2019
Dash and Peggy
Best friends making the transition to maybe boyfriend/girlfriend. I liked his possessiveness I mean he probably was OTT but he genuinely cared for her. Just when he does an asshole thing he makes it right but doing something swoony. His heart’s in the right place. I love Dash he’s not your typical I’mma love you kind of guy. He’s rough around the edges, unapologetic, abrasive and doesn’t sugar coat anything. Peggy on the other hand I felt was a little wishy washy due to typical teenager insecurities but I liked her. I enjoyed this read and hope her two bestie Daphne and Willa get their own stories. These three have a great sisterhood.
Kiss and Break Up is about two best friends who are getting ready to start senior year. Dash is promiscuous in his ways and an all-around bad ass when it comes to everything in life except Peggy! Peggy is the good girl and all she wants during her senior year of high school is to experience everything everyone else already has. She is Dash’s best friend; they’ve known each other since they were babies. Then another guy shows an interest in Peggy and the tensions get high between everyone.
All that teenage drama and angst you remember, this book is full of sensual moments that’ll take you back in time. I have no desire to go back to high school but I love reading high school romances. Ella Fields knocked this high school friends to lovers book out of the ballpark!
I could not put this book down! UGHHHHHHHHHHHH, it was so good. It was my favorite trope, friends to more. Dash and Peggy have been friends since they were in diapers. The relationship Ella Fields created with these two characters was phenomenal. Nothing felt forced or unnatural. The dialogue and banter between these two were off the charts. The friendship/relationship these two shared was special and it could be felt throughout the whole book.
Now, it wouldn’t be a book written by Ella Fields if there wasn’t a whole lot of angst involved. DEAR LORD – angst was filled in every page in this book. Ok – I may be exaggerating a tad but you get my point. At one point, my chest physically ached. I felt for these characters like they were real people. That is a GREAT story!
I devoured this book and I’m so sad it’s over. BUT that just means you need to experience this feeling as well! Pick this book up on March 8th. You won’t regret it!
A quote I fell in love with while reading this book. You have to read it to find out who said it 🙂
“No time with you is wasted even when we’re breaking.”
Omg this book!!! Dash and Peggy were so fun to read! This book gave us teenage tension in what felt like a grown-up book! Who knew friends-to-lovers could be so exhilarating! Peggy and Dash were relationship goals AND friendship goals.
This book was young love at it’s finest. Those first loves that just blow you away. How do you go from being best friends since birth, to lovers? Not easily! I love how this author didn’t hold back on the angst and drama.
Kiss and Break Up was perfection to read. Right to the very end, I was glued to the pages. Even the side characters were perfection! I cannot wait to read more about the other friends in this book… Lars, Daphne, Jackson, Willa… This is going to be a fun little world to be stuck in for a while!
