Wow!!!! Amazing story. Loved it from beginning to end.
Kismet by April Canavan is a wonderful story that I have loved reading very much. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I am hooked on and can not wait to read the rest. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about romantic suspense and small town romance.

*This book includes scenes of rape and attempted murder.
Dispatcher Maya does not know it but she has a stalker and he is closer than she would want. Maya is in love with Deputy Brian though she has never said anything. When she does talk to Brian, he shuts her down until the night the rapist shows up at the house she shares with her roommate Brandi. This violence in this story is horrendous but it has a HEA and is very much worth reading. Highly recommended.

I liked the suspense in this and the tension between Maya and Brian and the danger she was in. I normally like the back and forth between characters and the angst between them as they figure out their place in each other’s lives. I had a hard time with this one because of Brian and his previous relationship and the things he does, even when he says he wants Maya. I found myself cringing at times. Just go in at your own risk as some of these thing may be hard limits for some.
This was an intriguing story about a dispatcher who falls in love with a man already taken. On top of that problem, she finds herself the victim of a demented man who believes they were meant for one another.

4 stars for Kismet by April Canavan. This is book one in the Birch County Blue Series. This is my first book from this author and I am looking forward to reading more from her. This is a romantic suspense, and I loved every second of it. Maya is a dispatcher and Brian is a deputy. These two have a friendship but Maya is in love with Brian. Brian says he does not have feelings for her but he seems to be lying. Everything changing when Maya’s life is in danger when it is revealed she has a stalker. There may be some triggers in this book for some so be warned. This was a fantastic romantic suspense book. I will say this is a must read if you love this genre.
I would like to make readers aware there are potential triggers in this book. I wanted to like this book more, the concept was better than the execution of this story. The book would benefit from a more concise edit to improve the overall reading experience. All that said, I will read the next book in the series, hoping this was just a rough beginning.
Another enjoyable read in the Birch PD series (sorry, I’m reading out of order!). Besides the age-gap romance, this has mystery, suspense and some violence. I love Brian and Maya together, but hated how they keep pushing the other away. She’s being stalked; she’s incredibly strong, but is eventually pushed to her breaking point. He’s so protective of her, but doesn’t always make the smartest decisions. It was an intense and emotional book, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to read it.

I won’t lie and say that I felt like this story was longer than it needed to be. It did give a lot of back story and left me dying to know what happened next. It may have been a little too long but by the end they had me hooked. I am looking forward to the next story in this series.

I have read several of this author’s books through different ARC programs and I like her style and the realistic characters. They feel like everyday people not billionaires with special military training or equipment. Unfortunately, I have not read them in order, and I would recommend doing that or at least reading this one first. The books in the series revolve around the police and dispatch departments of Birch, Maine.
This is the story of Maya, who is a dispatcher and trying to rebuild her life after the end of her abusive marriage. She has made some good friends through work and one that helped her quite a bit was Brian. He is a sheriff deputy, and they work together, but when Maya confesses her feelings for him, Brian is not receptive and that puts some stress on their work relationship and friendship. Unfortunately, at this time, Maya seems to have acquired a stalker and is attacked in her home. Her recovery and the fallout from the assault actually help bring Brian to his senses and they build a relationship.
Although the attack and the stalker storyline kept me reading there were definitely parts of the book that made me question some of the characters. There were times I did not like Brian at all. It was hard to see what Maya saw in him. Yet there were other times that I could not understand Maya’s choices. She was getting out of a toxic relationship and tried to quickly jump into a new relationship with Brian, who not only has an ex-wife and kids but a current girlfriend. Some of the characters acted juvenile and as if they were in high school, not adult, first responders who are responsible for people’s lives.

WOW! This story will have you on the edge of your seat at times and others you’ll be like what the heck!?!? The what the heck parts are the immaturity of the two lead characters. Now Maya is 25 so maybe she hasn’t fully grown up (I was mature for my age so I don’t understand this personally) BUT she knows better when it comes to possibly havin a stalker n reporting things. Now Brian he’s 37 and should definitely know better but unfortunately makes dumb decisions (what guy doesn’t). I loved the storyline and especially liked how the main characters were ‘normal’ people, as in not the cutest or trimmest figures and they were totally flawed. Makes the story more believable. Brian’s boys were so sweet, gotta love them! There’s definitely triggers in this book and I’d say the main ones bein rape n stalkin.
I read some of the other reviews after I wrote mine and can see where some lower stars were there but I can honestly say I don’t see this being under three stars at all, unless you just don’t like these types of stories or have triggers. Which if that’s the case you shouldn’t read. But to each their own. I really enjoyed it, kept me up.

This was a well-written story with great characters and an interesting storyline. Maya and Brian had a lot of obstacles to overcome but they had good chemistry. There was suspense, action, drama, obsession, turmoil, angst, emotions, steam and love. (Note: There’s a scene that may be a trigger for some.)
This book has the potential to be a great book but for me it was just OK. There were parts that I really enjoyed and parts that I did not. I liked that the book was written from three point of views: Brian, Maya and the villain. It was nice to see what was going through the villain’s head with his infatuation with Maya. I didn’t like the way that Brian’s friends treated him when it came to Maya. I also didn’t like the way that Maya acted through most of the book. There was too much back and forth when it came to their relationship. The story was intense and suspenseful. I did enjoy the story and I am looking forward to ready the rest of the series.

4.5*
Another emotional beautiful story. This is the third book I have read from this author and I think she is now one of my favorites. This story does contain some triggers. Maya is a dispatcher for the police department and she is in love with her friend Brian who is a police officer. In the beginning he rejects her because of the age difference and he believes she deserves better. But when tragedy strikes and Maya is attacked by a deranged stalker, he no longer can deny his feelings. This story deals with the struggle of Maya trying to get her life back after a tragedy, Brian trying to prove himself to Maya, everyone trying to find the stalker. I love the characters in this story and how everyone in the police department you get the sense of family when tragedy strikes how they are all there for each other. I look forward to reading more from April.
I received an ARC and volunteered to leave a review.
3.5 stars This book started out slow for me and was hard for me to get into. I was not that enthralled with Maya and her character. I have read other stories by this author but this is not my favorite.

The Strength Of True Love –
I honestly don’t know what to write after reading this book, other than to say WOW! This was one crazy, action – packed rollercoaster of a read, that you won’t be able to put down once you start. The storyline will run you through a gamut of emotions, but leave you feeling elated by not only Maya’s strength and determination to overcome what happened to her, but also the love and support shown by the people around her. This book deserves to be read in one sitting to be truly appreciated, so I suggest you create a few hours of uninterrupted time before you start.

Kismet is the first book in the Birch County Blue series. Maya is being stalked, her life is in danger, and her heart belongs to a man who can’t accept her love. After the attack on Maya, Brian wants to win Maya’s trust again, but will him and his fellow brothers in blue be able to keep her safe and alive long enough for them to find love?
Wow. This book is an emotional rollercoaster of some major lows with some heartfelt highs and I could barely put this book down once it started. I needed to know what would happen to Maya with her stalker, to Maya and Brian and their relationship, and with the police department as a whole as they all tried to find Maya’s stalker and rapist. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t love either of the main characters. I found it hard to connect to them or to always feel the chemistry between them, as it often felt like as soon as one was ready for more, the other was not. But, one thing I think Ms. Canavan did well with the characters was make them believable. Both messed up, neither was perfect, and both felt extremely deeply. The way that Maya responded to all of her trauma seemed so realistic. And Brian did his best, but because he’s human, he didn’t always get it right. I liked how strong Maya tried to be and I liked how protective Brian became. I think both characters grew in these pages, found out what it truly meant to love someone else and to find support in each other. The danger aspect of this story seemed to keep me on my toes, I couldn’t guess who the rapist and attempted murderer was, and was dying to know up until the very end. There’s a lot that happens within these pages, a lot of people introduced that was sometimes challenging for me to keep up, but I enjoyed this harshly beautiful storyline and am craving more from this world that Ms. Canavan has created!
