As far as last books go in a series that I’ve been reading/waiting for over the past 3 years, it didn’t knock it out of the park for me. But it wasn’t terrible either, which is always a good thing.
In previous books we’ve learned that Kipling, aka Kip, probably had the most despicable parents and family of the group of dragons. Over the centuries, Danburn’s father was there to save Kip from his family’s antics to try to harm and/or kill Kip. He hasn’t heard or seen his family in some time, but he knows now that he’s cleaned up the castle grounds and has found happiness that it’s only a matter of time before they return. But first Kip has to help his new mate with her family issues. Hopefully, her siblings aren’t as terrible as his…
Dalton, since she was born, has always had to watch her back around her family. Her parents never cared for her and her sister and brother tried everything in their power to try and harm her. This newest antic to try and kill Dalton isn’t something new, but the harm was greater and took the blood of Kip to ensure she survived. However, once Dalton wakes up she won’t just skip along joyfully next to Kip, especially since she feels all her choices have been taken away from her now.
In my opinion, I wish that the author would’ve chosen to have one of the siblings turn to try and be nice. It seemed, from my perspective, too convenient to have both Dalton and Kip’s brothers decide all of a sudden that they wanted to be good and they were sorry for what wrong doings they did. I also would’ve liked to know what happened with Luann (Dalton’s sister). She was mad, she was described as being crazy and having killed almost all of her adult life, but what happens to her??

Great ending to the series
Kip is the last to find his mate. Dalton is a former police office turn security guard. Kip almost lost her.
Their childhoods are uncannily similar. They are both the youngest, both unwanted and abused, and both had people to turn to. Dalton had her aunt and uncle as well as her grandparents. Kip had Danburn, his parents and he friends.
Their families are are coming to cause trouble for them both. Dalton’s brother wants to make amends. Her sister wants her dead and she destroys Dalton and her brothers chance to reconcile.
Kips brother wants to change. Time in prison away from his parents and sister gave him time to reflect. He is granted freedom, on the condition he has no contact with his parents, sister or Kip himself. Kip is proud of the man/dragon he is working to become. His parents and sister are another story. Tired by the council and condemned to hard labor. In their deaths they gave Kip a precious gift. His mother’s dragon went to Dalton and his sister and father’s dragons to his adopted sons.
Fast paced, loved Kip and Dalton’s story. A nice epilogue to wrap up the series.
