When revenge turns into a fake engagement…It was supposed to be a simple case of revenge: get to know King Tech owner and CEO Beckett King, learn his secrets, and ruin his life like he ruined my brother’s. But Beckett King offers me a deal I can’t refuse. Not only does he want me to pretend to be engaged to him, he needs to marry me to get his grandmother off his back. And at the end of the … And at the end of the year, we can go our separate ways, only I’ll be a whole lot richer.
I won’t fall for his irresistible good looks, or that aw, shucks country-boy charm he still possesses from growing up on a ranch. I’m smarter than that. He has a lesson to learn and I’m the best one to teach him.
But that’s the tricky thing with revenge. It doesn’t always go as planned.
King’s Ransom is a standalone novel in the Oil Kings series written by an award-winning author.

Book two in the Oil Kings series a well written story that held my interest throughout. There is a fine line between revenge and love as CEO Beckett King and Eva Chase are going to find out. I enjoyed seeing this story come together. I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. King’s Ransom by Marie Johnston is the second book in the Oil Kings series. I read this book as a drop-in (I didn’t read the first book), but I plan to go back and read it! I really loved this book. The characters were really well developed and I just felt a connection to Eva and Beckett. Even Adam and the rest of the King clan were compelling characters. Sexy (Mature Readers Only), dramatic and loaded with sweet moments as well as a bunch of cringe worthy ones, this read pulls you in from the first page and wrings you out leaving you smiling and satisfied by the end. Despite being a series read, I wasn’t lost and the book basically read stand alone. I do believe reading the series in order will enhance the reads, so I’ll be going back and reading King’s Crown (book one) in preparation for book three… King’s Treasure.

Eva is out for revenge against CEO Beckett King, owner of King Tech. Beckett allegedly wronged her brother and Eva wants to get even. But instead, he offers her a deal she can’t pass up! His grandmother wants him married, and it has to last at least a year, so that he can receive his share of the family money. Will Eva continue seeking her revenge for her brother’s sake? Or will their fake arrangement turn into something real? And what happens if (and you know that means ‘when’) Beckett finds out who she is and her true purpose in being with him?
Grab your copy and see how the intrigue sorts out as secrets are revealed and “life happens” to change everything you thought you were getting into.
4.5***** stars. This book will definitely help pass some time while the country is down. Eva is out for revenge on behalf of her brother who is horribly depressed after having his app rejected. Beckett has misguided business criteria that stems from a childhood tragedy. He mistakes Eva as his new assistant sent by his grandmother to get him married off. That’s a whole ‘nother hot mess.
It’s very well written and will hold your attention from beginning to end! Very enjoyable read!!

Anarchy, escapades and havoc run amuck, booting this slim jim into a raging tempest, blasting it into a hissy with a mind-blowing culmination. Twined, combined and interwoven, exposing the explosive ups and agonizing downs, grounding in it’s strength and awe inspiring in it’s depth. Cognizant of the instant realization and charged atmosphere, along with a bevy of enticing twists and thrilling turns, putting our characters through their paces, ratcheting up the heat and magic, drawing them closer than they could have ever envisioned. Intense attraction and chemistry sizzles, alluring and mesmerizing, grounding in it’s strength and awe-inspiring in it’s depth. Beckett destroyed her brother. Eva shows up at his office, intent on destroying him. Instead, he hires her as his assistant, and she’s mulling over his offer to marry him. Fake, of course. So he can meet the terms of his mother’s will and inherit $100M. Eva will get half when they divorce a year later. She just has to do it without falling in love. After meeting his family and spending time together, he wants her for real now. But she still has a secret, one that will destroy their fragile relationship. I loved getting to know Beck’s brothers – Xander and Dawson are terrific, but Aiden needs an attitude adjustment. Beck has so many preconceived notions about people with problems in their past, stemming from his mother’s death, but Eva eventually opens his eyes about that. He is a great guy, though. Eva is a “glass is half-full” person, looking for and finding the good in people, and she speaks honestly and from her heart, except for the part about her brother. She has a little attitude toward Beck initially, but realizes that he’s just a guy with flaws. I had no idea how the author could top King’s Crown, but she most certainly did just that. I’m very much looking forward to the next book.

Eva was a real person who saw the good in people despite their flaws. Loved her.
Eva and her half-brother Adam lost their parents when Eva was young and her brother sacrificed a lot to raise her. Still getting over her grief at their loss, she fell in with a bad crowd and committed petty theft. Her brother Adam took the fall, ended up in prison, and when he pitched an app to Beckett King, the deal fell through because of his prison record. Now after meeting Beckett she has a chance for revenge against the person who threw her brother into a depressed state. But being his personal assistant and pretend fiancée, she learns he is a good person, but because of his past and the way his mother died, Beck he has no compassion and no empathy for what the lower classes have to deal with on a day to day basis. He doesn’t believe in giving second chances and is rigid in his dealings. No excuse for lying or committing any crime no matter how small. Now that they have fallen in love with each other she’s on borrowed time and needs to make the most of her time with him she can get. Because when Beck finds out Adam is her brother and that she really stole years ago he will throw her out of his life. There are deception and lies from Beckett and Eva here as they both have their own agenda. Eva thought she could exact revenge on Beckett but I could tell that was going to be difficult when their chemistry was practically burning everything in sight. I had a hard time putting this down because I got engrossed in the characters and I am totally hooked on this series.
Oh what a tangled web we weave…Eva’s intent upon meeting Beckett was to exact revenge for the failure of her brother’s app and subsequent plunge into depression. She ended up working as Beckett’s PA without him knowing he was the one that “crushed” her brother’s dreams.
Beckett had some deceptions of his own to pull off in order to claim his inheritance – and Eva agreed to become his fake fiancé. That got Gram off his back so she could begin working on a bride for the next brother – Xander.
This is a story about the power of the truth and overcoming pain from the past. I really loved this couple because they were so honest about their feelings for each other while still protecting themselves from what they were most afraid of. Seeing the transformation of Beckett, Eva and even her brother Adam made this a worthwhile read. It didn’t hurt that Beckett and Eva were smoking hot together, either.

Revenge or Marriage?
Eva wants to hate Beckett for what he did to her family but working for him, in order to get revenge, turns out to be dangerous for her heart. With the exception of his rigid rules on second chances, he is the perfect guy; it’s just a shame that her past is not perfect. I really enjoyed this novel and how falling in love changes both of them. Highly recommended.

*Spoiler Alert*
You get to meet Beckett briefly in his dad Gentry’s book Kings Crown the book before this one. Which didnt show him in much of a good light. As an insular man & a workaholic but in this book you get to see underneath his shell (or at least Eva (FMC) does). She has a refreshingly frank and honest point of view of everything. One of which she isnt ashamed to come straight out and say. I loved that about Eva as well as her fierce loyalty to her brother. Eva and Beckett are such complete opposites but in the say breath they so completely right for each other. Totally loved this as much as book 1. Bring on the other brothers books. Cant wait to read them
Captivating and Thrilling…
