When revenge turns into a fake engagement…It was supposed to be a simple case of revenge: get to know King Tech owner and CEO Beckett King, learn his secrets, and ruin his life like he ruined my brother’s. But Beckett King offers me a deal I can’t refuse. Not only does he want me to pretend to be engaged to him, he needs to marry me to get his grandmother off his back. And at the end of the … And at the end of the year, we can go our separate ways, only I’ll be a whole lot richer.
I won’t fall for his irresistible good looks, or that aw, shucks country-boy charm he still possesses from growing up on a ranch. I’m smarter than that. He has a lesson to learn and I’m the best one to teach him.
But that’s the tricky thing with revenge. It doesn’t always go as planned.

King’s Ransom
Oil Kings Bk 2
by Marie Johnston
Narrated by Kelli Tager & Michael Gallagher
Revenge. It’s not always as sweet as expected. Eva has the chance to seek hers now as Beckett King has offered her an option. Marry him for a year, and walk away with 1/2 of his inheritance. This is her chance to get to know the man, and use all the secrets she can to get back at him for destroying her brother. But what these two don’t expect is to have feelings, even before they get married! As they get to know each other, Eva is finding out just what this man is made of and though his views don’t always match hers, her secret may be the one that breaks them apart. I love coming back to the Kings. Loved the first book in the series and now am enjoyed this one as well. We get to see Beckett’s dad and new wife as well as his fun loving brothers. It’s full of ribbing and family love, at least most of the time. Beckett and Eva are great to get to know, but I really loved Eva’s brother Adam. We get to watch him evolve and it’s incredible. Another great installment! Hope more are coming.
Michael Gallagher and Kelli Tager are our story tellers for this audio. I love this team! Gallagher lends his voice to Beckett. He is professional when he has to be, but I love how he is on the ranch. Relaxed and falling. Eva is a complicated character and Tager peels all her layers off. All the inflections lead to her conflicting feelings and it’s magic. I loved the performance!

Good easy read
I really liked the first book in this series, but didn’t connect with this one. Ended up skipping to the end after chapter 4 then read it backwards from there. 3.5 stars
I have enjoyed the first two books so far. The men are strong and the women are even stronger. The men have a lot to work through to get to their happily ever after. The women are good characters and you learn more about how each woman thinks as the story grows. I really enjoyed the premise of having to get married for the trust, it made for interesting twists and turns in the story.
An enemies to lovers I suppose, only Beckett doesn’t realise Eva hates him and wants to ruin his reputation and company!
Beckett never wanted to go into the Oil business, nor did he see himself becoming a full time rancher.
Beck has a knack of spotting things people need and then creating apps or promoting those those created the apps.
And he’s become very successful.
So successful that he needs a PA, his last one just wanted to marry him and get hold of his inheritance!
And the one after that married his dad!
Eva wants to ruin Beckett King! He ruined her brothers reputation, and when companies pulled out of buying her brothers app, he spiralled into a depressive satiate that has Eva worried! So Beckett is going to feel all the pain and humiliation that Eva can bring down on him!
She just needs a reason to be in his office!
I have to admit I didn’t like this one as much as the first book, but it’s still a great read. I didn’t really get the same connection that I got with book one.
Beckett gives Eva a job after mistakenly thinking she’s come for an interview. There are sparks, there is banter and there is the interfering grandma in the background trying to pull strings and orchestrate a wedding!!
So you can read these books out of order, you don’t need to read them all. But there is an ongoing story in the background…..
Each King needs to be married to inherit a large amount of money. If they aren’t married then the money leaves the family! And grandma isn’t having any of that! So she’s harassing them to get married before they are thirty!
Beckett and Eva are getting on really well. There is a chemistry that they are both aware of, but Eva is trying to keep her distance. She’s not suppose to fall for her enemy, is she?
But lies have a habit of being found out. And when they do…..
Can Beckett forgive Eva for lying to him about her motives for getting to know him? And can Beckett give Eva another chance, when usually no one gets another chance with him?

Oh wow, everything about this book had me like yes!
Flirty, fun, fabulous….. three words to describe this wonderful offering from Marie Johnston.
I needed a book to reset my mind from the other dark books I’ve been reading lately, and this was the perfect one to do it! I was honored to be included for an ARC and I can’t thank @everything_romance_blog and Marie for that!
The characters had me in the palm of their hands the entire time.
I liked Eva. She is relatable with her own inner struggles and how she was portrayed, many of us could really feel what she was thinking and saying.
Now, to Mr. Beckett. I liked that he was not a manhoe. I got so tired of reading about that and thankfully he was not one. Beckett was everything I wanted him to be, down to Earth kind of guy that knew what he wanted and went for it, no beating around the bush, cutting to the chase, you know the drill. Dreamy? HELL YES.
Both characters are strong-willed. Eva is no push-over and doesn’t easily give in when Beckett pushes. At some point it got pretty HAWT…! Because let me tell you when they were ready for the next step… the sex scenes… whew! On fire! Beckett is hot hot hot.
This was a great story that started off with a bang and dished out lots of laughs. I smiled throughout the entire story and couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend this book. Go buy it!
I’m so glad I got to know Beckett in this book! He was nothing like I was expecting after reading Gentry’s story. I really enjoyed the characters in this story. Eva is loyal to a fault and tried so hard to seek revenge, but her soft soul wouldn’t allow it. Beckett is so set in his ways and truthful that it hurts him in the end. I was thrilled to read more about Beckett’s brothers now that we learned about the inheritance in the first book. I’m so glad there was less Grams in this book! She drive me crazy in the first book. I found it really interesting to see the different ways people deal with traumatic events in their life and how they deal with them. Great book! Can’t wait to keep reading this series!
I had the opportunity to read the first three books in the Oil Kings series back to back and I am so glad I took advantage of that opportunity. I’ve only read a handful of books by this author but so far they have all been a pleasurable experience. I spent a weekend with these three Kings and I have zero regrets!
If you’ve read Gentry’s story, then you already know about the craziness and hoops the Kings have to jump thru for their inheritance. It’s not a new storyline for me as I read like 400 to 500 books year, so I’ve run into this a time or two. Even tho it’s not anything new, I still found this story refreshing and I think it’s mainly from the characters. Since I literally finished the first book mere hours before beginning this one, all the drama hoopla was fresh in my mind and I just needed to see what kind of new shenanigans the author could come up with for Beckett’s story.
I can’t say that I liked Beckett’s story as much as I did his father’s, but I still enjoyed the heck out of it. I liked Eva a lot and Beckett, of course, but Eva probably a bit more. Their story dragged a bit for me in some places, but I think that’s mainly because I just wanted to see how all the secrets would unfold and what would happen then. All in all, the story is believable and relatable and the characters are ones you’ll root for.
Sidebar: I’m still not impressed by these covers. It’s hard for me to reconciliate the Beckett I read with what is supposed to be Beckett on this cover .. #help
This is the 2nd book in this fantastic series and is Beckett and Eva’s story. Beckett is the CEO and owner of his Tech company, and when he rejects Eva’s brother Adam’s app, which has him spiralling into depression, she goes there to give him a piece of her mind. Eva is out for revenge and wants to find out all of Beckett’s secrets to destroy him, but she ends up being hired as his assistant, as well as in a fake engagement to get his grandmother off his back, and an agreement that when he gets his inheritance and after a year of marriage Eva will receive half of the money, which she desperately needs to help her brother. This is a well written tale with engaging and realistic characters, and with sizzling chemistry, which all leads to a wonderful storyline which had me enthralled throughout. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend.
This book was sooooooo good. I really fell in love with Eva and Beckett. In this story we meet Eva and her brother, Adam. They both lost their parents very young and well Eva ended up in trouble and that meant Adam was also arrested. Now years later Adam came up with an app and was in discussions with Beckett’s tech company to promote it when he pulled out because he learned Adam went to jail. Now Adam is very depressed, he barely eats or showers and just spends his time on the couch. So Eva decides to give Beckett a piece of her mind…. and thats how these two meet.
Beckett sees Eva and decides to hire her as his new assistant and pay her a ridiculous amount of money and then he asks her to marry him in a few months. He wants time to show his father he is in love but he has to be married for one year by his 30th birthday. Eva is desperate for money to save her brother and so she agrees but she never tells him who her brother is and about his and her murky past
What will Beckett do when he finds out?
Why is so opposed to hiring and working with former jailbirds?
Well you will have to read this book to find out. I absolutely adored it. We see alot more of the King family in this book and I loved seeing all my favorite characters from the first book and getting to know them more.

Boy does he have a proposition for her
King’s Ransom is the second book in the Oil Kings series and is a great addition to the first book, King’s Crown which I have read and loved. This is story is about Beckett King and one very lucky lady, Eva Chase. I really loved this book as the story-line was very captivating and caught me from the beginning keeping me engaged until the end. The characters are well developed and have their flaws, their hearts and emotions. They may start off an enemies but the opposite of hate is love and before this story is over their will be a lot of love and amazingly hot and sparking passion unleashed between them.
I received a copy of this book for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel from the first page until the very last. It has been very rare that I have been able to read a book in one day, but I was captivated by these characters instantaneously.
Let me just start off by saying that I have already set an alarm in my phone to remind me to be on the look out for the next book in this series! I absolutely LOVE these novels and the romantic atmosphere that they bring without becoming crude and overbearing. So many times, now-a-days, there are individuals out there quick to write a fast story with too much lust and not enough romance; however, you never have to worry about that when it comes to the Oil Kings series!
Kick back in your chair, dim the lights, make yourself something to drink along with a snack while you join the story of a young woman discovering that maybe love is within her grasp after all. Everyone gives up too easily on their family whenever there has been abandonment or deep resentment placed that took a couple of years to build up, but no one ever take the time to look deeper to see that the person in question places more guilt placed upon their own shoulders than that that anyone else could place. Come and read about a self-reliant young lady finding that not all men are the same, and a young man finding out that for some women love and family is all that they will ever want. Not all men and women will take advantage and leave when everything that someone could give is gone from them.
Eva wants revenge against Beckett King for destroying her brother’s dream. The goal is to become his employee. Beckett needs to marry in order to inherit from his grandmother and Eva meets all his requirements. The two expect to marry then go their separate ways in one year with both being richer. Plans don’t always go the way you want in life. The couple have sizzling sexual chemistry that won’t be denied even for revenge. Will Eva’s secrets ruin any chance the couple may have to stay together?

Loved the book, the story was well written and the characters were intriguing. Once I started I could not get enough, from the start till the end I was engrossed I was even on the edge of my seat with twists and turns, lust and passion, strength happiness and love. The story of sensational feelings that can run through the body while reading. Do yourself a favor and buy the book you want be disappointed.
Thank you for allowing me to review your book.

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Beckett and Eva. Beckett is a tech CEO and has a famous oil and ranching family. He has a trust fund from his family that has crazy stipulations, he has to be married for a year by his 30th birthday or he loses that money. He has a theory that if you have a bad history, jail or addiction, he won’t work with you. So Eva’s brother was one of those who he turned away. So Eva is seeking revenge. But she didn’t plan on developing a relationship with him and feelings. Great HEA in the end.

I love the King family they are so not perfect, even though they have all that money they all have issues. I really enjoyed Beckett and Eva’s story both were such strong characters. Eva was easy to like she was the underdog, trying to protect and take care of her brother Adam you could feel the love and loyalty. Beckett is rich with family money and a successful self-made millionaire with his tech company but has his own issues stemming from his childhood after his mother’s death. A chance meeting brings these two together, Beckett needs to get married and Eva is his choice for a fake fiancee and wife. The chemistry is there between them and the whole King family sees it. This book is full of steam, drama, secrets, and angst that keeps you turning the pages. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
This is the second book set in the world of the King’s oil rig royalty who aren’t all that they seem
Eva Chase blames Beckett King for destroying her half brothers dreams of launching an App after all he wouldn’t deal with him because he had a prison record a record that should have actually been Eva’s after she fell off the rails after the death of their parents. So she gets a job working for Beck hoping that she can learn secrets to bring him to his knees What she doesn’t expect is that he will offer her a pretend marriage so that he can get his grandmother of his back and she would get $100 million which would help her brother launch his app and maybe get him out pf the depression he has fallen into. There is only one thing wrong with the plan as they spend more time together they are starting to fall in love but what will happen when he finds out her secret plans. Can they have a future You will have to read to see
I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.
I really enjoyed this story, it is the second book in the Oil Kings series and can be read as a standalone story. The storyline is interesting and quick to read, the characters are likable and have flaws that make them more relatable. Really good story.
