Declan and Mak have been at each other’s throats since sophomore year and now it’s time for the party to end all parties for the seniors of Rittenhouse Prep. What’s the worst that could happen?Long live the Kings…
This is the prequel to the Kings of Rittenhouse series and at the time that I read it, the book was offered as a free read. Best buy so far this year LOL. Can not begin to tell you how author Maya Hughes is writes this prequel and grabs you in such a way that you are rushing off to download the second book next book in the series Ruthless King.
This book tells us how it all started. We get to know all of the Kings… an ice hockey team from a prep school called Rittenhouse. But it’s not just them so beware there is so much more than that. And yes it gets you all ready and warmed up to hit the ice for the next book in this series as well. And yes it does end in a mini cliff hanger so beware!

Just a taste of the backstory
Great background to the series as well as Mak & Declan’s book. I want to know all their stories now!

Kings of Rittenhouse, written by Maya Hughes is the prequel to the Kings of Rittenhouse series. This is a perfect introduction to the series and introduces all the main characters. I highly recommend that you read the prequel before diving into the series. The book is free on Kindle, so really what do you have to lose? Basically, this book is about a group of seniors who go to a private prep-school, Rittenhouse Prep, and it hi-lights the guys on the ice hockey teams and their love interests. This book is packed full of fun teenage drama. The writing was well done, and for a short book (took me about an hour to read) Ms. Hughes does an excellent job on character development. This series definitely looks promising, and I am looking forward to reading it.

This is a great prequel to the Shameless King book, and just what was needed to lay down the background and the foundation to what’s going to be a fabulous series to read!
In this we get a glimpse of the 5 hockey players’ lives – Declan, Heath, Emmett, Colm and Ford – as they are finishing high school and setting out on the road to college.
Declan is the leading scorer on the hockey team, player extraordinaire in more ways than one. Makenna is all work and no play, very uptight and known as the Ice Queen. Declan is not her favorite person as its his fault they failed a project together. Declan just can’t help himself from teasing her at every opportunity.
Mak is hiding lots about herself as she strives and works to become doctor after losing someone very close to her.
We’re also given a quick hint of a prom night dance spent together, where they both seemed to have recognised their attraction for each other, before that gets dashed away from them. Of course being high school there is quite a bit of drama in this prequel.
Well worth the read, and just whets your appetite for the main attraction!!

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. I’m a greedy reader. I want all the words, so novellas aren’t normally my thing. However, this is the perfect intro for this series. I fell head over heels for the whole crew in this book. It was a short read, but I was definitely invested in the series by the time it was over. I felt like we got just enough of a look at the characters to like them and just little enough to be left on the edge of our seats waiting to see what comes next.
I definitely recommend reading this before diving in with Shameless King, but don’t expect to be able to read this without diving right in. It is definitely not meant to be a standalone, and it will leave you on the edge of your seat in the best way possible. However, the insight and backstory this will give you definitely make it worth your time!

Not a bad start to a new series. This was the free introduction to the full length story that comes out soon. It was about a bunch if high school boys and a few girls. I liked it, but the characters did come across to me as high school. I might be interested in the next story, will see. Great writing
