When a King loves He loves hardCADEI’ve loved her since we were five years old.We grew up side by side. Two kids tied together by the Kings of Mayhem Motorcycle Club. But I broke us.I broke her.So, she fled. Now she’s back after twelve long years. And I’m going to show her all the reasons why we should be together and make her forget all the reasons why we shouldn’t.INDY I’m back in town but only … years.
And I’m going to show her all the reasons why we should be together and make her forget all the reasons why we shouldn’t.
INDY
I’m back in town but only because I have to be.
I’m here to help my mom bury my father.
And the sooner we get it done, the better.
Because I want to see Cade as much as I want a hole in the head.
He broke me once—no, he broke my everything— and I’ll be damned if I’ll let him do it again.
Get in and get out. That is the plan.
But you know what they say about best-laid plans.
more
Indy is back in town to bury her father after a twelve year absence. Cade is determined to get her back after doing something foolish when they were a couple in high school. Indy plans on a quick in and out but sometimes things don’t go according to plan. There is a cliff hanger and cheating but that doesn’t stop me from reading a book. I liked this book and plan to read the next one.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving a review.
I’ve never read anything of Penny Dee’s before but I will most definitely be continuing. This was such a pleasant surprise! This trope is popular, the genre expansive and lots of times just not great about much except sex and violence. That’s so not the case here! We get a life-long love story between Indy and Cade and circumstances that have broken them but not removed the underlying feelings they have for one another.
Drama, family and situational, great backstory and some pretty hilarious and realistic dialogue. These two characters are trapped in a purgatory after their perfect love story was interrupted a dozen years prior. Indy comes home after the death of her father and the life she left behind is still waiting for her. It’s a lovely, though painful journey to go with her as she rediscovers her self and her roots – and along with that, her attraction and chemistry with the man she gave her heart to as a child, Cade.
Great if you like a good slow burn romance with some MC flavor and lots of drama. Avoid until the next one is out if you don’t like cliffhangers!
This book had potential and was a quick read, but the jumping around, then backtracking to explain what’s going on or what happened after the end of the last chapter got a little old. If you loved Sons of Anarchy, you’ll probably like the seemingly never-ending drama that this story brings, because there are a lot of similarities between the two.
Cade was an absolute mess at first and managed to pull himself together, but I found that the event that broke him and Indy up to be a little TOO cleanly predictable. And the fact that everyone was angry at Indy for leaving, rather than understanding how her heart broke over it, was just annoying. I’m glad that they found their HEA and liked how Cade proved that he never stopped loving Indy (even if he never meant for her to find out), but overall, this book was average.
A great way to start the series. This is author is new to me and I want more!! Cade and Indy were sweethearts from a young age but then life gets in the way and Indy flees. Once she returns Cade is determined to win her back but they will have to hash out the night so long ago that she fled. A fantastic start to the series. I can’t wait for the next installment because this one ends in a cliffhanger!
Penny Dee is my new found author of
2019 and I’m so happy that I could read her
MC series Kings of Mayhem. It was different kind of MC story that I used to read. Also was a new reading experience for me and I loved it! This wasn’t about a violent plot but really intense and profound story full of emotions and second chance love.
Indy and Cade were teenage sweetheart. They were only few years old when they met for the first time. Bonded through MC’s club they became best friends. But through the years their relationship has evolved into something more and everything went to the happily ever after but one awful day a heartbreaking circumstance teared them apart and split their path.
Many years later they’re met again but will they be together and be able to forget about the past?
Author created story from the dual POV. There was also a mix of their past and present life tangled in the plot which helped me to understand their feelings thoughts and reasons of acting.
Gosh, I don’t know how many times I was crying over Indy and Cade’s fate. They were perfect for each other and their love was profound and undeniable. Their steamy chemistry was so intense that I could feel it with every part of my body and I couldn’t wait for their touch.
I need to say that I was 100% for Cade and I cheered him on in his fight for Indy’s heart.
I ‘m hopeless romantic and I think that everyone deserves a second chance especially when his acts and feels are so deep and real. Cade showed his devotion, kindness and love for Indy through all those year. He was so sorry for his mistake and was trying to get her back but there was much more to the story where Indy was involved.
I understood Indy’s behavior as well. She was heartbroken after Cade broke her and lost in the MC’s world at the same time. She made a decision she thought was good for her and left her whole life behind. But when she returns to her hometown after all those years she started to have a second thoughts about her life.
You need to read a whole book to understood their story.
We’re also getting to know whole big MC’s family. They were bonded very closely and supported each other. There were lots of fabulous second characters which fulfill whole story. My favorite was old Sybil, Cade’s grandmother. She gave me so much fun in the story.
Author Penny Dee made a great job! Her story was well thought and written.
I can tell you that I actually couldn’t put this book down, I was drown into it and crave more and more. When I finally get to the end I was like WOW, I couldn’t believed what just happened and all emotions return with so much force. Now I’m in Brothers of Arms book and I feel that it’s going to be darker, more twisted with fast pace of action book.

This fantastic book is first in the Kings of Mayhem series and it features Cade and Indy. This story picks you up and wraps its arms around you and doesn’t let go until you’re ready for book 2. The depth of love between these two was amazingly breathtaking. The pain and regret was devastating. My heart hurt for them and what they went through. I think Garrett should have had to pay for what he did to his son. I get a true sense of family with this MC. The “old ladies” are more involved in the club social activities than most other MC series.
The story line is great and the characters are extremely relatable. This love story was deep, touching and forever. This is why I read romance, for forever stories like this one. I can’t wait to read book too.
A great read that kicks off what should be a great new MC series. This author is new to me but I have to say she gained a new fan with this book. It’s very well written and I really enjoyed the characters. One note though – if cheating is a trigger for you this book may not be for you. Cade and Indy were teenage sweethearts and lovers until Cade broke Indy’s heart. Indy left town and hasn’t been back. That was 12 years ago. Now she’s returned and Cade is determined to get a second chance. I would definitely recommend this one.
Kings of Mayhem by Penny Dee is book One in the Kings of Mayhem Series. This is the story of Indy and Cade. Indy and Cade were childhood friends that grew into being in love and have planned to go to college together. But Indy caught Cade sleeping with another girl and up and left. Now 12 years later Indy has returned to her home town to help her mom get her father’s funeral in order. This leads her back to Cade…both have had other relationships since but neither has really gotten over the other. But can the work things out to have a future? This book does have their ending but it does start to introduce the next book…so there is somewhat of a light cliffhanger.
I enjoyed this MC romance. This book gives Cade and Indy a second chance at love. I loved the sweetness that was added to the book by having them be childhood sweethearts and there is just something about a love that starts as simple and pure as it can only be when you are very young. The plot takes that and adds a lot of drama, emotional turmoil, pain and darkness as the characters grow up and finally break up. Twelve years later fate steps in and draws them back together. There is just a boatload of emotional intensity to this romance. The storyline is complex and complicated. It does contain the sensitive subject of cheating that can be a deal breaker for many readers. All I will say is that was not a simple black and white issue. Whether the why and Cade’s guilt and remorse will be adequate to excuse it will be up to you. I really liked Indy. She was strong, smart. Cade I liked but I wanted to like more than I did ( because of some of his other action, not the cheating). The chemistry between these two was sizzling and their scenes scorched the pages. I thought this was a very good read and I’m looking forward to book two. This is my candid, voluntary review.
Second Chance Romance Biker Style
After twelve years Indy has come back home for her father’s funeral. She was not the same person who left all those years ago cutting off ties to anything and everyone in Destiny, MS. She had left a lot behind; her friends, her family, the Kings of Mayhem MC and her heart. Cade and Indy had grown up next door to each other and were kids from the MC. They were destined to be together until that one night and a little help from someone from the MC. Her world fell apart and she headed off to college to pursue a career in the medical field. She tried to move on but Cade was always her one and only no matter how hard she tried to forget him. Her father’s funeral was just the thing to bring her back to her old self which was a strong and sassy MC Princess.
I loved this book and the way it was written. It let me see into Cade and Indy’s life as kids as well and the present. Their chemistry was off the charts but it was their hearts that were at stake. The twists and turns in this book were awesome. This is my first time reading this author and I can’t wait to read Brother’s In Arms which is book two in this series. I have found a new MC author I will definitely be one-clicking!!
This was an amazing story from the first page to the last I could not put it down. I know I say that a lot, but I do mean it every single time. 5 out of 5!
Cade Calley and Indy Parrish’s seem to have aligned before they were even born. Cade’s grandfather, Hutch Calley, was an original member who started the Kings of Mayhem when he came back from the Vietnam war. Hutch and Hank Parrish (not sure if he is related to Indy’s family or not, but it’s big coincidence), flew together and their crews call sign was Mayhem, so the Kings of Mayhem was born.
Cade and Indy met when they were 5 years old, when Jackie and Lady Parrish moved to Destiny Mississippi. Best friends from kindergarten through high school, when they became more than friends, they had fallen in love with each other.
Then heartbreak, Cade’s Dad, Garrett didn’t want him to leave the MC or Mississippi to go to college with Indy in Seattle Washington. So Garrett drugged him and made sure he drank a lot. Next thing Cade knows he’s in his room screwing someone, but it’s not Indy. A club skank and while they are having sex Indy walks in and leaves him, the MC, her family, heck even Mississippi behind her. She went to Seattle to go to college then medical school.
Twelve years later, Jackie, Indigo’s Dad passed away so it’s time for her to come back home, if for nothing more than to bury her father and be there for her Mom. She still loves Cade and it’s hard to stay away from him. He’s like a magnet pulling her to him. After a few day’s Cade and Indy come together again. Only to separate again the day before the funeral.
With several twists and turns after Indy heads back to Seattle, Cade follows her and asks her to love him and come back to Mississippi with him and she agrees.
Now the ending was rough on me, Indy and Cade are doing great, the MC has been having some problems lately deals falling through, then tragedy happens on several levels. The End. What a cliff hanger! Now I am at the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens in Band of Brother’s: The King’s of Mayhem Book #2 comes out in February 26th!
This second chance story put me through the wringer! If you like angsty, beautifully written, emotional reads then this is a read for you.
Indy and Cade, MC Royalty who grew up together and fell in love. With grandiose plans for the future, one night, one action changed that path for both of them. Twelve years later, Indy is home to bury her father. And we get to watch Indy and Cade tap dance around each other. Indy being home has opened a lot of unfinished business with family, friends and the Club but especially with Cade. You can feel every emotion as their former lives collide with the present. Cade has never moved on from her and vows to win her over again while she is home. Indy is afraid to put her heart in line to get hurt again. The one thing they both can agree on is the draw to one another is still there. As if the story wasn’t enough, I was not expecting that ending and cannot wait for the next installment.
You’ve taken everything from me. You broke us and there just aren’t enough pieces left to put us back together again.” ~ Indy
“Tell me how I let you go without it killing me and I will….Tell me how I live without you without it destroying me.” ~ Cade
It’s been a while since I’ve read an MC book, so when I was given the opportunity to read Kings of Mayhem I jumped at the chance. I’m so glad I did. Penny Dee is a new author to me, and one that I will definitely be reading more of. The story follows Cade Calley and Indigo Parrish, both MC kids, it follows their story from when they met, aged 5 to present day, 25 years later. Previously I’ve struggled with books going backwards and forwards with the timeline between chapters, but Penny Dee nailed it for me. I loved reading their past as much as their present. Told in dual POV we get to see both sides of their story, a story about second chances, family and true love. A wonderful story, with some emotional scenes and some interesting characters, all with their own story to tell. I can’t wait to read more Kings of Mayhem. I do hope though that future books include Cade and Indy, I need updates, I’m not quite ready to let them go yet. I was addicted from the very first page. Five ‘Cade Calley is Hot as Hell’ Stars from me. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.
**I received a copy of Kings of Mayhem from Xpresso Book Tours and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. The opinions expressed below are mine alone and not solicited in any way**
Kings of Mayhem by Penny Dee is the first book in her new King of Mayhem MC series. This is the first time I’ve read her books and most likely won’t be the last. But you did need to know that this ends in a cliffhanger but don’t worry the next one Brothers in Arms is due out in February. Whew! I was worried because I just HAVE to know how the MC resolves the story! This is Cade and Indigo’s story. Yes, it’s filled with angst but the friendship then eventually love is awesome.
Indigo Parrish moved next door to Cade Calley and they soon become best friends. Cade will protect her with his life but when a mistake is made during the twilight of their senior year of high school, it will break them both. However when Indy comes back to Destiny, MS for her father can both Cade and Indy find their happily ever after? Or will she run from him again back to Seattle and her job as a Trauma doctor?
Cade Calley has always known that he’d eventually lead the Kings of Mayhem MC that was started by his grandfather. But when he meets Indy as a five-year-old boy little does he know that she’ll become the most important girl to him. But when they make plans to leave the MC and go to college together his father will find a way to break them up leading to 12 years apart from his love. There is another MC that wants their turf but how do they do this without causing an all out war between them? When Cade and Indy are finally able to dream of a HEA will it all come crashing down due to an offer to go to refuse?
Well, I’m off to read the next book because well I just have to find out how this all gets resolved.
3.75 stars– KINGS OF MAYHEM is the first instalment in Penny Dee’s contemporary, adult KINGS OF MAYHEM erotic, MC romance focusing on the Kings of Mayhem MC. This is thirty year olds, King of Mayhem member Cade Calley, and ER physician Indigo (Indy) Parrish’s story line.
NOTE : KINGS OF MAYHEM contains scenes of violence and abuse that may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Cade and Indy) using present day and memories from the past KINGS OF MAYHEM follows the rekindling relationship and romance between childhood best friends and sweethearts thirty year olds, King of Mayhem member Cade Calley, and ER physician Indigo (Indy) Parrish. Twelve years earlier Indigo Parrish’s life imploded when the man that she loved destroyed her heart leaving a hardened and unforgiving woman in its’ wake. Struggling to move beyond Cade’s betrayal, Indy headed for the West Coast as she embarked on her dreams of becoming a physician. Fast forward to present day wherein thirty-year old Indy must return to her hometown of Destiny to bury her father, a member of the Kings of Mayhem MC, and not the first man to betray our story line heroine. Enter Cade Calley, sexy, handsome MC member, and the man who continues to control Indy’s heart. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship and romance between Cade and Indy, and the potential fall-out as Indy’s time in Destiny comes to a close.
Indigo Parrish wanted out of the MC life having seen her mother suffer abuse at the hands of her controlling father. Indy and Cade were about to set out on their future, with plans for college and beyond, when betrayal and heart break drove Indy away. Cade Calley has never stopped loving his Indigo Blue knowing he destroyed the only woman he would ever love. With Indy’s return to Destiny, Cade was hoping to start over with the woman that left a permanent stain on his heart and his soul.
The relationship between Indy and Cade is one of second chances; an acrimonious and tempestuous rekindling in which Indy is determined to hurt the man she has always loved. Cade is desperate for Indy to forgive sins of the past but forgiveness is difficult when memories stand in the way. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense.
We are introduced to the large and colorful ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters whose presence directs a good portion of the story line premise.
The world building focuses on the present and the past; the events that shaped our story line couple including childhood trauma, spousal abuse, school shooting, death, violence, alcoholism and cheating.
KINGS OF MAYHEM is a gritty storyline ala Sons of Anarchy™ although some of the violence and ‘mayhem’ is behind the scenes or often implied. The premise is lively and dramatic; the romance is provocative and intense; the characters are broken, sassy and tragic. KINGS OF MAYHEM is a wonderful and intriguing introduction to Penny Dee’s KINGS OF MAYHEM MC series; a predictable but entertaining story line that ends on a cliffhanger-you have been warned.
Cade and Indigo were club kids, growing up together since they were five and becoming closer than close, loving each other and planning a lifetime together. That is until things went pear shaped and Indy left Cade and the MC life well and truly behind. Then…she came back after twelve long years!
The story is split in two time frames, then and now, with background information given in a more interesting way. Also told from both Cade and Indy’s points of view, allow readers a deeper insight into each lead character.
Some good humour laced throughout the story gives readers a chuckle along the way, for example when Indy is dealing with a five year old patient who denies having anything to do with pushing a bead into his nose…
“I held up the plastic bead I had just extracted from his nasal cavity. It was the fourth one this month. Any more and I could make a bracelet. …“Did it crawl in there by itself? “Maybe.” “Really? Because I don’t see a pair of legs on this sucker.” “They fell off.”
Much of the book is centred on Cade and Indy’s emotional scenes, including some red hot passionate love scenes where they set the sheets on fire. There is also a touch of drama and action expat the end, which I will warn you is a small cliffhanger. It certainly had me on the edge of my seat flipping the pages!
I loved this story and look forward to the next book.
***4.5 ‘You Can Kiss Me As Much As You Like’ Stars***
That was NOT how I thought this book was going to end. And now I need the next one…like…yesterday?!?!
I mean seriously…WTF?!?
But…*deep breath in…slow breath out*…the review.
I’m always a little hesitant when I decide to dive into an MC romance because my track record with them is a 50/50 split on ones I’ve loved and ones that just haven’t worked out for me for one reason or another and this one was no different. But the cover reeled me in and the blurb peaked my interest and, with the exception of that ending, I really enjoyed this one. It was sweet, swoon worthy, eye roll inducing, smexy and filled with some really well written characters and that family feel that makes me want to hang out and get to know them a whole lot better.
I kinda fell in love with Cade. I mean it was hard not to fall in love with him. He’s got the alpha AF biker thing going on, but there’s this sweetness to him that just pulls you in. He’s a good man who loves his family and will protect them no matter what. Indy…I gotta be honest. She and I had a rough go of it, this isn’t to say that I didn’t like her because I did and I understood why she felt the things that she did, but…she tried me. She really did, but in the end I can honestly say that I really liked her and loved seeing her fiery personality finally come out.
Cade and Indy’s journey was all kinds of angsty/swoony goodness. It sounds a little strange, but they had even amounts of both of those and though there were things that drove me batshit crazy, it only showed that they belonged together. Their connection, their chemistry, was intense and the need to see them work things out and put the past behind them was strong. Now, in a situation where cheating is involved I do typically side with the party who had been cheated on, but in this case, after everything was exposed I was, and am, absolutely #TeamCade. No questions asked.
This is my first read by the author and I was hooked from the start. The writing was engaging, pacing was good and I really enjoyed the dual first person POV’s. I also really enjoy how she showed us just how deep the connection between Cade and Indy ran, it was well thought out and executed. The MC aspect was done well, it’s not as dark as some, but it’s still gritty and that family feel is definitely there. As for the supporting cast of characters. There are a lot of people I want more of. Each one we meet is well written and unique, though Sybil is my favorite of the bunch, she rocks! And as for that ending. Again, didn’t see that coming, but I NEED to know how it all works out, so bring on Brothers in Arms!

The Kings of Mayhem is the first book in the new MC Romance series by Penny Dee, a new author for me and she has earn a new fan. Kings of Mayhem is the story of Cade and Indy. Her writing style is wondrous and the plot is a sexy second chance romance that will draw you in from chapter one until the end. I highly recommend it. A must read! Can’t wait to read book 2. Thanks Penny for the Advanced Reader Copy.
What an amazing storyline. This is one of those books that grab you from the start, melt your heart and have you rooting for a happing ending. The characters are so well written and defined that they seem to come to life and make you feel like you are right there living life beside them.
Cade and Indy had been best friends since childhood. For Cade he knew Indy was his; at first his best friend, then his girl and if he had his way, his ole lady. But Indy wanted away from MC life. Cade didn’t want to lose her so he was going to leave with her. Something his father was not about to let happen. But all is for not when Indy walked in on Cade and sees him having sex with another girl. So she does the only thing she can. she runs. She runs out of state to college and becomes an ER Doctor, following her dread and doing everything she can to put Cade and her MC life behind her.
As for Cade, he stayed with the MC, lived a reckless lifestyle, since his whole world had left him. He put everything he had into club life and eventually became the MC Prez. But on the inside, he never got over Indy.
When her father dies, Indy comes home for the funeral. Not for her dad, but be there for her mother. He mantra “Get in and Get Out” and back to her life, she can’t afford to lose herself to her old way life and especially not Cade. But Cade has other hopes. Maybe, just Maybe when she learns to truth of that awful night she might forgive him. Can Cade convince Indy to hear him out and give them a chance? And what about her old friends, will they forgive her for running out without a word and never looking back?
This is an exciting, well written book that will having you roped in and refuse to let go. This emotional ride is one I highly recommend grabbing up. 5 Stars and 2 Thumbs up for this Must Read and bring on book 2, I can’t wait.
Another new to me author, another fantastic story!!
Kings of Mayhem is the first book in the Kings of Mayhem series.
This story is gonna grab you hard and not let go until it’s ready. This story is full of angst and redemption! It’s going to make you feel ALL THE FEELS!
This is the story of Cade and Indy, but it’s also about so much more. It’s about family, those you are born into and those who you choose. I loved the brotherhood and the loyalty.
There are twists in this story that you won’t see coming. Just when you think you know, or you have the story figured out. Ms. Dee skews it to make you see it in a new light.
Cade and Indy have a love that spans time and distance. They have a lifelong friendship that lays the groundwork for a deep and abiding love. Even when outside forces try to dismantle it. Their love was bent and bruised, but through it all, like hope, it was there!
The secondary characters bring a depth to the story that really makes the world they live in feel real, raw and lovely.
I cannot wait to read the next book in this series, coming in February. What a great way to start the new year!
Thank you for your words, for creating a imperfectly perfect world.
