I am not usually a reader of dark romances but this one grabbed me right from the beginning and even though some scenes/themes made me somewhat uncomfortable I could not put the book down. As this book is a duet, there is no resolution at the end – I look forward to book 2 to find out if Snow and Blake can overcome their history and find their way back to each other.
First of all this book is not for the faint of heart.
Compared to other books, the main male character doesn’t abuse the female main character physically. He doesn’t hit her or cut her skin or anything. But the kind of abuse he’s inflicting is psychological. He breaks her mind, he breaks her body (without touching it) ,he lefts her in pieces by the end of the book. It’s so dark and so twisted , but at the same time it’s perfect. The past is remembered, secrets are spilled and old wounds need closure. By the end of the book they are both broken , scattered pieces of what they once have been. The only hope for them is to put each other back together.
Congratulations Lana Sky for this book ! It truly is something else.
Started off kind of rough and confusing but after the first quarter it starts unfolding and becoming an intriguing heart wrenching twisted mess in the best way possible this book would have benefited from having dual POVs or at the least a whole lot of Blake’s voice added in but we get a glimpse of his side of things with the next book and I’m ecstatic to see how that goes he has a ton of repenting to do as I’ve mentioned before it is a little confusing from time to time and Snowy often grates on the nerves (still at a loss as to why curly frizzy red hair would be considered an attractive trait or why so many authors have characters with it why must it be curly and frizzy?? all I think of is clown hair huge turn off) however it’s worth skimming over those bits and reading anyway this story is different than other books out there and right now that’s beyond appreciated when redundancy is running rampant in the kindle world
WOW what a dark twisted story that has so much hate with lies mixed with truths but what to believe that will have you in pieces as the emotion guts you in every single way. Snowy and Blake are a force and together destruction as they punish each other looking for the answer they seek and it is so intense you never know whats coming next, thuis keeps you right there on the edge of your own sanity. The story line flowed perfectly and the characters are exceptionally written I loved it.
I was pretty excited for this book ever since reading the blurb for it, and i had formed an average idea on what to expect based on that, but as soon as i stated reading it, i realised that this will not be your regular read. its much much better.
As per usual Lana managed to create another a amazing world with a new set of frustratingly dark characters who still mange to feel captivating and fragile the further you read into the book. Overall this was a very dark and twisted, totally unexpected with an ending that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Cant wait to read the 2nd installment.
I’d give this Book 10 stars if possible. Let’s start with I started reading it and never put it down..I stayed up ALL NIGHT just to finish it. That’s how GREAT it is. It’s raw, gritty, emotional and tormenting..I absolutely LIVED IT!!
This is an emotionally charged read, there is anger, hatred, disappointment, resentment, mystery, rage and intense darkness. What would you do if someone you loved betrayed you and cost you your freedom? It’s a question we all hope to never have to answer, it’s a question this author has chosen to answer. Her plot is intense, and her characters are well rounded and yet twisted. If you like dark novels then this should be a wonderful read for you! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
RIVETING! INTENSE! ABRASIVE! HOT!
Bold, brazen and loaded with balls only the kind a strong willed determined Snowy has every right to claim.
Cruel demanding read that engulfs you keeping you hostage bound by fear and the unknown cruel suspense that impedes on your mind body and soul invading every nerve ending infusing me with fits of shivers and a numbing cold with trembling fingers gasping in shock and my poor racing heart that I thought would jump out of my chest being pushed by the explosive drama that had me consuming the words as if my very existence depended on it while torn hating every word but needing to feel more, a revolt and undeniable intrigue that keeps pushing me forward with such desperation I wanted to consume the words yet they were consuming me. NOW…demanding, commanding a flurry of emotions and thoughts that are to grueling and chaotic to comprehend when my mood shifts from furry to rage to excitement and the want of the unknown as the suspense keeps me on edge unwilling to feed my hungry lust for more as I’m left reeling in a fit of desperation! An explosive must read that will continue to haunt you long after the last word has been read screaming with desperation to to get my greedy hands on the conclusion to this brilliantly written mind blowing read! I ABSOLUTELY Effen LOVED IT!
~All the king’s men won’t put me back together again…No matter how violent my fall.~
I’m fast becoming a fan of Lana Sky. In spite of having a TBR list a mile high, I knew I had to scoot this to the top of my list. I dove right in and was immediately hooked! Her writing is high quality, allowing for effortless reading. The book is suspenseful with twists, and mesmerizing with mystery and intrigue.
Snowy Hollings has been selling her soul to save and preserve her family’s name since she was young. After all, being a Hollings means something. When the family’s fortune has been acquired and their affluence has been tarnished, desperation takes hold and Snowy must do what must be done for her and her brothers.
Blake Lorenz, has acquired everything including Snowy, in order to make her pay for her betrayal aiding in the death of the love of her life. He wants her broken and he will be the one responsible for her fall.
King’s Men is excruciatingly brutal and psychologically cruel. It is a dark romance sans the romance. I refuse to give spoilers, so read the blurb, then read the book!!
4.5* Humpty Dumpty Stars!
Snowy Hollings had it all…..until the bottom fell out of her family’s fortune. Now things aren’t going so good for Snowy. Enter Blake Lorenz, a corporate king who is out to destroy Snowy. Why? What did she ever do to him? You will have to read the book to see if the answers are there. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book.
This book… just WOW. Intense does not even begin to describe it. The emotions are sooooo wild, and raw, and…. It is just exquisite. Dark as night, but delicious as sin.
This book was so deliciously frustrating to read!
Filled we lies and intrigues, this unsettling story of revenge, plays with our emotions in a way that, I’d say, reminences the old classics.
Elegantly, it maddening makes us sympathize the cruel, manipulative leading man. As it drives us rock bottom, deep into our heroine’s spiral decadence. Or urges us to devour this frenetic relationship. Still, giving us hope for a redeeming ending. All wrapped up in Lana’s unconditional twisted, twisted touch.
I was hooked from beginning to end! Blake and Snow have steamy chemistry; however, their story is a dark one filled with painful memories and lies. Snow would do anything for her father and her family and her father made her betray her best friend. Now he is back for revenge. Will he get it? Intense, emotional and drama filled. These characters have so much depth and their story will draw you in. I loved it!
Lana Sky is a new author to me, and when I was done reading this book, I was shook!!!! This book will make you shake your head and say, what did I just read!! It was so intense!!!! I will definitely be reading more!!!! This book is MOST DEFINITELY going into my re-read pile!!!!
This has more twists and “WTH just happened” turns than Lombard Street!
When I first started King’s Men I was having a problem connecting with the cast and truly getting into the story line. Snow just rubbed me wrong and the story had me feeling a bit lost. I kept going though and by the third chapter, I was a touch more intrigued and curious – by the fourth I was hooked and there was no going back.
Yes I like to be grabbed from the opening not always a good thing I openly admit that
Blake is evil personified! I don’t believe there is anything he could ever do to change that in my eyes. His driving need to destroy Snowy almost borders on insanity. For an anti-hero, he is above and beyond reproach he couldn’t be more “anti” if he put actual effort into it – his character is that inherently twisted. His behavior had me ping-ponging constantly – like he is battling with himself as to how dark things can go and do not even get me started on all the questions his breadcrumb comments left me with.
Snow still had my hackles in a fit even as I read the closing scene. Someone (besides Blake) needs to knock some sense into that girl! I get she would do anything to not be destitute – I guess when you have nothing left to lose anything goes and I understood that. For me, it was more the fact she did not value herself. Though that was probably the point. *shrugs*
I have so many more questions than answers and am truly hoping book two has them. Though I am a bit scared if some of those answers are revealed to be what I believe they are.
Note this is a dark read – there is no romance
The copy I read was comp
Trust me, this one is going to hurt and boy will it leave a mark on your heart. So dark, intense and twisted, this book will leave you stunned and breathless. There is content here that is not for everyone and may things that could be triggers, so please be aware before reading. It is book one of a duet so prepare for a cliffhanger. Snowy and Blake are complex, complicated characters. I felt horrible for Snowy. The position she is in is unimaginable. Blake is vicious, vindictive and brutal. It is my opinion that even for a dark hero he pushes the edge of what is acceptable and can be redeemed. I think the author has a lot of work to do to achieve this in book two. That being said, this is a gripping read with plenty of jaw-dropping moments and twists that will keep you hooked and on the edge of your seat.
I absolutely loved reading this book, this is the first book in the series. It does not end on a cliffhanger but the whole story is just beginning to unfold for Snowy and Blake or is he Brandt? In this story money is the cause of so much darkness. Money is the only focus and it is sought after in any regard but what happens when you lose it all? Snowy is a 24 year old woman that has been at the top of money greatness with a powerful last name to match…..Hollings. however, with both parents deceased and two older brothers in charge of the family company, she is clueless to what they are up to. Her job, to marry Daniel Ellingston and not to worry about anything but looking beautiful. Everything quickly starts to crumb when Daniel gets arrested and makes a deal to save himself which threatens Snowy’s brothers Ronan and Hunter. The family fortune is taken away and so Snowy, hearing her father’s cruel words in her head about her being a Hollings, she finds a way to possibly get some company shares back but that comes with a larger price than even Snowy realized. Now Snowy is not the all innocent we thought her to be and as the story unfolds we learn her secrets and the source of her guilt. Blake is a man out to revenge the boy he once was but was destroyed because of Snowy. This story is phenomenal in its layers and twists. The story line is incredibly dark and covers some sensitive topics but is so well written and intriguing to read. The characters are also so well layered and complex that it is an absolute pleasure to see the various parts of them unravel and expose themselves as they push the story further. I cannot wait to read the next book King’s Horses. To the author, hats off and take a bow, this book and this series will be nothing short of the perfect read.

King’s Men by Lana Sky is book one in The Savage Fall Duet Series. This starts the story of Snowy Hollings and Blake Lorenz. Snowy hasn’t had a easy life growing up and only had one true friend that cared for her and she for him. But she betrayed him which deeply hurt her too. Now in the present day she finds that everything is taken from her..even herself. Blake is out for blood in his revenge…with Snowy as his pray. This is a very dark romance that may not be for some readers that have trigger issues or do like a very dark almost not redeemable hero. I can’t wait for the next installment in their story.
My head is reeling from all the shock. My mind is lost in this dark and twisted world created by Lana Sky. I feel I am in some alternate reality where all the demons of human mind come out to play. I am awed by the disturbing, deviant and mindblowing story called King’s Horses by Lana Sky.
The story is full of shocking surprises and twists all the way. And I am not sure how to tell you about the story without giving away too much. Snowy Hollises, a broken princess who is forced to do unspeakable things to save her family. A family that is powerful, aristrocrat and part of society’s upper crust. But the empire is built on deception, cruelty, greed and power games. The empire is crashing down all of a sudden in hands of a stranger, Blake Lorenz. Snowy is desperate to save her family and ready to make a deal with the devil. But the devil looks like a ghost from her past. Brandt Lloyd. The boy she loved and the boy she “killed” all because of her ruthless merciless father. But this enigmatic cold and bitter man is nothing like her sweet Brandt. What will happen between them? Is Brandt back for revenge? Who is Blake Lorenz? Is any price too high when Snowy is trying to save herself and her family?
The plot is simply stunning. The secrets are coming out one after another. Blake and Snow’s interactions are a thin line between corrosive hate and overwhelming attraction. The sex scenes are intense and dirty. This story is raw, gritty and as angsty as anyone can take. It covers highly sensitive issues like abuse and sexual assault. The darkness and violence are given a beautiful shape here. The story talks about the deepest animalistic parts of humanity. Passion. Survival. Greed. Love. Lust. Revenge. And the combination is amazing. I could not stop reading at all. I want to hate Blake for torturing Snow but I really can’t as I can feel his pain too. I want to love Snow but sometimes I can’t forgive her for making weak decisions. Nothing is real or moral here. And we readers are caught in the whirlwind.
Lana Sky has created a desperate and destructive yet delicious story of love and hate. The story kept me on the edge whole time. I am hypnotized and completely obsessed with King’s Horses. One of the best dark contemporary romance I have ever read
You should know: This is DARK. This is NOT a love story. There is dubious (at best) consent and lots of triggers not limited to: abuse, rape and eating disorders. This is violent, and ugly and not at all easy to read.
This one was really hard for me. It’s no secret that I struggle really hard with revenge romance. I considered walking away with it unfinished a number of times. Ultimately, the need to know what the eff is going on kept me reading, and I’ll continue with King’s Horses because I’m now invested in Blake and Snowy and the drama only the super wealthy can conjure.
I don’t understand these characters. I don’t understand why this trope is so attractive to so many. But the story is well told, the characters well drawn and I can’t deny those factors. Plus, I can’t stop thinking about it which tells me something has me hooked.
Proceed with extreme caution and only if this type of thing appeals to you.
