Leif Metcalfe and his team, dubbed Reaper, need to recover the stolen, ancient Book of the Wars if they hope to stop the Armageddon Coalition and their pursuit of global economic control. But their attention has been diverted by a prophecy in the book that foretells of formidable guardians who will decimate the enemies of ArC. While Iskra Todorova uses her connections in the covert underworld to … to hunt down the Book of the Wars, Leif and Reaper attempt to neutralize these agents but quickly find themselves outmaneuvered and outgunned. The more Reaper tries to stop the guardians, the more failure becomes a familiar, antagonistic foe. Friendships are fractured, and the team battles to hold it together long enough to defeat ArC. But as this millennia-old conspiracy creeps closer and closer to home, the implications could tear Leif and the team apart.

I have loved this author’s books from the first one I read and reviewed eleven years ago. She just keeps getting better with each book and series, and I am always amazed at the plots and ideas she comes up with.
This is the second book in The Book of Wars series, and it kept me on the edge of my seat as much as the previous one did. As with her other series she has written, she has come up with a unique and colorful cast of characters that are back in this book……something I really like about her books, as you get attached to the characters and they stay throughout the series. Most of them at least.
Kings Falling seemed to have even more action and suspenseful moments than Storm Rising. There is a lot more at stake in this book, and there were more than a few surprises I didn’t see coming. Among all the action and fighting, the author gives time to relationships, and I even enjoyed that part of the story.
To write three books about a book that doesn’t exist and all that comes with it must take a great imagination and ingenuity. As I read, I did truly find myself marveling at the amazing and complicated plot the author was spinning. But that doesn’t mean it is hard to read. Far from it.
I am not one that is bothered if Christian fiction isn’t blatantly Christian…and this book is not. If any of the main characters are Christians, I don’t remember picking up on that…but Kendig is proof that an author can write a fast-paced novel that is so awesome and you don’t want to put down, yet avoid cursing and smut. Some of her characters may curse, but it is just stated, not spelled out. And I appreciate it that an author like her writes the kind of fiction that I can loan to my nieces, nephews, or someone at church.
Kings Falling is a masterpiece of political intrigue, special ops, and suspense. I loved everything about it, though it does have a cliffhanger ending that has me wanting to read the last book coming in November.
I highly recommend Kings Falling, but the books should be read in order.
I was provided a copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions in this review are my own.
I have been a Ronie Kendig fan since her debut novel released and I have read every one of her military fiction books that have graced our shelves ever since! That being said this book didn’t quite hit the mark for the high expectations I have of her books. It still had all the things we’ve come to expect from a Kendig novel, high-paced action, buckets of intrigue and mystery, and intense characters with so much story to reveal.
Since this book is a continuation of book one we were already introduced to everyone but there was still so much more to learn about them all. Leif is still battling the demons of his past that he can’t identify and Iskra is figuring out what her life looks like now. The team provided a plethora of other characters with their own unique personalities. Several of them were given their own POV at various times throughout the book, and while it was good to get to know the team better it felt like a bit too much at times to have so many different viewpoints.
The team spends this book continuing to hunt for the Book of Wars and to stop those connected to it. Their chase around the globe provided lots of different locales as well as a lot of action scenes which are Kendig’s trademark. I will say at times it was hard to determine the reasoning behind some of their actions and there seemed to be some plot holes that left me questioning some things. Also, the overuse of certain phrases bugged me a bit, but that was probably something only my detail oriented self noticed.
It was good to get some more of the puzzle pieces in place for the overarching story and with how this book ended I am very interested to see how the third book wraps things up!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I finished reading this book 2 days ago and am not only still reeling from the incredible story but am seriously considering picking it up to read again tonight! Yes, it is that good! Kings Falling is book 2 of the series The Book of the Wars and it does not disappoint! This is definitely a series, in my opinion, that you need to read in order. But never fear, book 1 was phenomenal too! Kings Falling starts off right where book 1 ends and it is filled with action, twists and turns, WOW moments and a story line that simply blows you away in how well it is written and carried out. And the end of the book has me wishing book 3 was already released! Ronie Kendig has, once again, created a story that is as intense as it is well written. This story wreaked havoc on my sleep!
Leif and his team, Reaper, need to locate the book. But right now they are working on locating guardians that are prophesied in the book. Reaper is trying to take down these agents/guardians but quickly find themselves outgunned. Tensions rise as things get more and more intense for the team. Friendships are tested and the team could be torn apart.

Some books just leave you speechless. I don’t honestly know what to say other than, can the next book come out tomorrow? I need to know how this series ends! Well done, Ronie Kendig, well done.
Ronie Kendig has once again crafted another fast paced and unpredictable military suspense novel. Kings Falling provides complex storyline with a variety of characters that will keep readers guessing as the pages turn. One of the things that sets this author’s writing style apart for me is that the reader is immersed into each situation as it is happening. It gives each chapter a sense of urgency, which delivers a fast paced read.
Ronie Kendig packs a punch and doesn’t let go. With the introduction to her second novel in The Book of the Wars series, Kings Falling, Kendig grabbed my attention with the first chapter and really didn’t let go at all. It kept moving forward and having climactic moments all over the place. If readers are a fan of the Fast and Furious franchise, like me, than this is definitely a book to pick up and devour. Kendig started the book with a little bit of calm before the storm, and I actually enjoyed that. It helped cement the reality of the characters. The characters are reoccurring, and I really liked this element of the story. As a reader, we are really getting to know these characters and understand how they really tick. As for the plot, a major climactic moment is solved, BUT the overarching goal of the series is still not met. The ending is left in a climactic moment. Not that it bothered me at all. I cheered Kendig for doing this. It begs me to return and read the final book. I highly recommend readers of action and suspense to pick up this book, but they should read Storm Rising first.
I received a complimentary copy of Kings Falling by Ronie Kendig from Bethany House Publishers, but the opinions stated are all my own.
Ronie Kendig has done it again! This story is amazing. I had really high expectations for Kings Falling and I am happy to say that this story totally exceeded them! I loved everything about it. The camaraderie, the action, Leif, the growth of key relationships, the wonderfully creative storyline, and did I mention, Leif? Ronie Kendig writes the best male characters.
There is not a whole lot I can say about this story without getting into spoiler territory. So, what I will say is this, there are so many twists and turns in this story and so many things I totally did not see coming. I was on the edge of my seat from the very first page to the very last page. I cannot wait to find out what happened to Leif during those missing months. I am so glad that we do not have that long of a wait for Soul Raging, which comes out in November! I cannot wait to see how this series plays out.
Ronie Kendig is the most consistently amazing author I have ever read. Her always creative, addictive stories, and her characters are why she is my absolute favorite author.
Holy smokes! This is one book you can’t put down. Be warned if you put it down to sleep you will dream about it.
This book let’s you see more of Leif and Iskra trying to figure out their lives. Each are forced to the breaking points yet will they be able to make it back or will all be lost?
This is a page turner that takes you to different countries while exploring history. Each team member starts to feel even more like family and you’re wondering if you should be cheering or screaming with each turn.
Wow! This book picks up the spine tingling thrill ride where the last book finished. With little time to catch your breath, the team is off hunting for the Book of the Wars and information they have received from the small part they have studied. Ronie Kendig keeps the adrenaline pumping from start to finish.
Leif is more determined than ever to fill in the missing pieces of memory, no matter what anyone tells him. There are secrets being kept from him and they are starting to create division and distrust. Iskra wants nothing more than to spend time with her daughter, safe from the man who used to control her. But she also wants to help Leif put an end to the hunt for the Book of the Wars, which can also help her find her brother.. Divided, Iskra longs for peace. Meanwhile, the team is flying all over the world trying to stop the dreaded Neoithen from arising. This leaves little time for side missions and questions.
Ronie Kendig keeps the suspense flying high with this second installment to the Book of the Wars series. Whether it’s chasing down a suspect, looking through a scope, or threading through top secret cyber information the characters take the reader along for each pulse pounding moment. They come to life with each conversation and mission. Heart pounding action pulls the reader along and into each moment, each page. Ronie Kendig has knocked this book out of the park. And with an ultimate cliff hanger ending, I can not wait for the next book! It is already on my to be read pile! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
A great book that builds on the prior one and series. Filled with twists and I’m eager to see where the series goes next. Ronie is one of the best when it comes to military/international thrillers with a supernatural twist.
After reading, Storm Rising, the first book in this series, I wasn’t sure I wanted to continue because I didn’t know what the author, Ronie Kendig, was going to write about in this book. What was she going to make her characters go through, and what kind of emotions I was going to have?
However, what I got was a book that kept me on the edge of my seat, hands white-knuckled on the chair just waiting to see what’s going to happen.
WOW! Now, that was adrenaline at its highest!
This book left me with more questions, yet surprisingly, some answers too. I’m the kind of person who likes “who done it stories” so this was perfect for me, but I’m still trying to pick up the pieces of the story and fit them all together in my head! I LOVE IT!
Ronie Kendig knows how to twist and turn the story in such a way you don’t see what’s right in front of you and when you see it, you can’t believe it!
If you want to read a book packed full of intrigue, suspense, action (LOTS OF ACTION!), drama, military struggles, and a bit of romance, then this is the book for you!
You might need a day or two to process all that happens in this book.
Believe me, you won’t be able to breathe deeply until the end, but it will be worth it.
I highly recommend reading this book and Strom Rising, the first book in the series. Pick them up and start on the adventure of your life.
I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Kings Falling was another action-packed and unputdownable thrill ride from Ronie Kendig. From beginning to end, I could hardly catch my breath. There’s so much suspense and so many twists that left me shocked, kept me guessing, and had me questioning everything. The excitement hardly ever let up.
This epic and intense adventure is not to be missed. Be sure to grab a copy of the first book, Storm Rising, before diving into this page-turner. It’s not a standalone. I’m very eager for the next book because, oh man, this one left me hanging. I can’t wait!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
*I was given an ebook copy of this review through Netgalley for my honest reviews. These opinions are my own.*
Genre : Christian, Action, Sci-Fi, Suspense, Military
My rating: 5 stars
Language: Clean! (However there are a few lines where it is suggested that they say a curse word, but end the sentence before they say it. E.g. “Son of a – “). There is one line where it says, “Get your head of your butt and back in the game”.
Age Range: 16+
Content: Kissing (mild), one scene where two characters sleep together – though it wasn’t a sex scene. They just fell asleep. There was talk about a woman going to bed with guys. Violence is medium – there are people dying. One scene slightly disgusting with people vomiting.
Favorite Character: Iskra, Mercy, Baddar and Cell. Leif was my favorite… but things change a little and he isn’t quite on my top list anymore.
Favorite quote: “That’s what she said” (Just read the book – it’s not what you think 🙂 ).
Conclusion:
Once again, Ronie Kendig wrote an amazing story! Great character development, plot twists that I was not expecting, and action/suspense that kept me turning the pages. Exceptional work and excitement! The ending took me by surprise and I hope that the third and last book has a happy ending. Highly recommend this book and author.
