Leif Metcalfe and his team, dubbed Reaper, need to recover the stolen, ancient Book of the Wars if they hope to stop the Armageddon Coalition and their pursuit of global economic control. But their attention has been diverted by a prophecy in the book that foretells of formidable guardians who will decimate the enemies of ArC. While Iskra Todorova uses her connections in the covert underworld to … to hunt down the Book of the Wars, Leif and Reaper attempt to neutralize these agents but quickly find themselves outmaneuvered and outgunned. The more Reaper tries to stop the guardians, the more failure becomes a familiar, antagonistic foe. Friendships are fractured, and the team battles to hold it together long enough to defeat ArC. But as this millennia-old conspiracy creeps closer and closer to home, the implications could tear Leif and the team apart.

Kings Falling by Ronie Kendig should come with a warning label that should henceforth be referred to as the Kendig Effect. Symptoms of the Kendig Effect include huddling in a corner while eating your own hair, rocking back and forth, and unintelligible muttering because you are both eager and terrified to read another installment from this author!
And that pretty much sums up Kings Falling!
The plot of Kings Falling — no spoilers! — is like playing a championship chess match while skydiving. With people shooting at you. And explosions…somewhere. Not sure where. The plot is so intricate and layered with plot twists and key details. The author even manages to take the buildup of a plot twist you expect and still make it shocking! It’s…incredible! Additionally, the author takes readers on a journey of covert operations around the globe with a supernatural twist to boot! It’s like National Treasure meets Marvel’s Bucky Barnes meets Armageddon. THAT’S RIGHT!
Let’s talk about the characters. Not only do the supporting characters leap off the pages with a life of their own, the main characters — Leif and Iskra — are awesome! Leif is the type of hero I one hundred percent believe we need to see more of in fiction! He’s not perfect. In fact, as he navigates past trauma and current struggles, he reacts far from perfect. But he’s real, and I love that in a fictional hero! And Iskra is a strong heroine that is inspirational and empowering! Despite trauma, unspeakable abuse, and horrific betrayal, she does not let the past hold her captive. And as Leif, Iskra, and the rest of Reaper navigate the darkness surrounding them, their desperate fight for light will resonate on a soul level!
Five Stars ~ Kings Falling by Ronie Kendig is a thrilling and suspenseful chess match of a story! Kings Falling is the second book in The Book of the Wars Series, and the books should be read in order of release to understand the storyline and to prevent major spoilers.

Well. I must say that this was quite a read and continuing story. I was probably through the first 130 pages before I was pulled back to reality. Yes, it was that good. We are instantly pulled deeper into the mythology of the Book of the Wars, and as the team becomes more connected and tighter in the their missions there is a small fracture that has begun. To say that I was on pins and needles is quite accurate.
There is something going on in the background and author Kendig knows how to keep the secret hidden and pull us the readers along for the journey. I felt like in the first book everyone was just getting to know each other. Now they have become a team, a family, they work well together. Not only are their lives on the line but so are their hearts. I have a feeling that after that ending it is going to be quite a road to a somewhat normalcy.
This was a great escape read and I am really, and I mean really looking forward to Soul Raging.

If you’re looking for a nice, cozy, meandering story… put the book down. You are about to enter the world of spec ops and a thrill that will leave you gasping for air. Ronie Kendig NEVER gives away more than she needs to as her plot masterfully unfolds amid high adrenaline chases and mysteries. But there are tender moments also, for those who love a bit of romance (and I admit that I do). I love the banter between the characters, the sense of comradery. This book is another incredible story and I can’t wait for the next one.
Ronie Kendig takes her signature Rapid Fire fiction to a whole new level in Kings Falling. With nonstop action, conspiracy theories, and witty banter between the tight Reaper team the reader barely gets a chance to turn pages let alone breathe.
Just about the time I figured something out Ms. Kendig threw in a new twist that I didn’t see coming. Which for this fan of Ronie Kendig’s made the book all the more fun to read.
I’m not sure how I feel about the ending. Suffice it to say that I really hope Soul Raging, book 3, answers some of the questions that are left hanging.
I highly recommend this book and series! If you haven’t read Storm Rising, book 1, I recommend that you do so before diving head first into this story.

Ronie Kendig is back and somehow, she cranks the level up in Kings Falling. The previous book in The Book of the Wars series was intense and action packed, and you really need to read it before you read this one.
Why? Because book two builds on the relationships, the witty banter, and the Reaper team’s hunt for The Book of the Wars. Or Leif’s search for answers to the missing months of his life (and boy do I have some questions about that because both Storm Rising and Kings Falling hint at things I want answers to).
Something Kendig excels at is dropping bombshells on her readers and leaving them reeling with the results. And she does it again in this book. Plus, she leaves readers clamoring for the next book after devouring the current one.
You will not regret picking up this book (or series if you haven’t started the series yet).

Kings falling is Kendig’s best books yet!
This book sucked me into it and the characters were amazing!
You can’t help but be completely immersed in KF while reading, it was like I couldn’t pull my eyes away from the pages.
As we follow along with Reaper, we get to follow along with all of the members and their POVs and perspectives, and that was one of my favorite things about KF. That it wasn’t just focused on Leif and Iskra , but the team as a whole then dividing into every member and their personal lives all while Keeping us immersed in the main plot. I have to say, Kings Falling is my favorite read of 2020 so far!Ronie Kendig
Readers, brace yourselves. This book is full of action, will keep you on the edge of your seats, and leave you with what feels like a season finale ending. Wow this was one exciting read! And no speed reading here- Kendig has packed so many details (in a good way) in each and every page that you need to make sure you are paying attention. You might miss a clue for a plot twist that comes up later in the story! And besides, this novel is so intriguing that you cannot help but just hang onto every word. And newbies to the series – please read book one first, otherwise you may be lost here. It’s worth the read, trust me.
I have to be completely honest – there were times in this book I wasn’t sure our hunky hero was going to make it. It’s kind of like when you’re watching a tv show, and the main character’s life hangs in the balance, but you know they’re going to make it otherwise the show wouldn’t go on. Well Kendig had me fooled, because I was holding my breath, wondering if Leif was going to get through every obstacle he came across.
I was also glad to learn a little bit more about Iskra and Leif in this novel. After reading book one, I had some unanswered questions about them. While I still have a few questions left unanswered, thanks to Kendig’s masterful story telling technique, this reader is pretty satisfied with all I learned, and how Kendig offers it little bits at a time.
I highly recommend reading this series from the start. Full of action, a little romance, and a story line that keeps readers guessing, this is one of my favorites! I received a complimentary copy of this novel and was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Just when I think she can’t possible give us a more compelling story, she goes and does it again! Ronie is a MASTER of her craft. I’m not sure how I’m supposed to compose any eloquent words after the last page of that book. EEK! Is it November yet? I NEED Soul Raging!
This is book two in The Book of the Wars series, and you will definitely want to grab the first book before you start Kings Falling. In true Ronie Kendig fashion, she wrote another story I devoured in less than 24 hours. Once you start, you won’t be able to put it down until the very last page.
If you love a story with suspense, intrigue, high stakes, fast pace, and where nothing is quite what it seems, this series/book is for you. The plot alone is worth raving about, but Ronie always does so well with the depth of each character. I honestly can’t say which aspect she does better. (Ok, is the characters. How can you not just fall in love with them? Oh, but the PLOT * fans myself*. FINE. It’s all good, y’all!)
This book was not at all what I was expecting, but that’s ok. I’m along for whatever wild ride Ronie is about to take us on. I will say, that despite getting a bit of a different narrative, it was still MEGA INTENSE. I also must be fully honest and let you know that that there is an EPIC CLIFF HANGER at the end of Kings Falling. If you have a pre-existing heart condition, maybe you should go ahead and buy books 1 & 2 and just wait until November for book 3. I promise you’ll want to read them all, but it isn’t worth your life. (Ok, kidding. Kind of.)
All in all. I have SO MUCH LOVE for this book and this series. The characters are ones I just can’t seem to spend enough time with. Ronie, I know BHP give you a word count limit, but they should just give the people what they want. We need MORE! Please?! Definitely a must read, friends. Get your copy NOW.
I was given an early copy of this manuscript through NetGalley for my honest review. I enjoyed it so much that I bought it in both paperback and audio. All opinions expressed are my own.
The second installment of “The Book of the Wars” did not disappoint! I loved catching up with Leif and Iskra but also loved getting deeper with the rest of Reaper. There are twists and turns I wasn’t expecting, thrilling missions, frustration with characters that make me want to smack them upside the head (which makes them more relatable). I enjoyed “Kings Falling” just as much if not more than “Storm Rising”.
“Kings Falling” is a ride you need to get on! Ronie Kendig has you hooked from the beginning and won’t let you go until the last page and even then, you won’t want to let go.
I never wanted “Kings Falling” to end!

If you thought Storm Rising was suspenseful, think again. Kings Falling picks up where we left off with Leif Metcalfe and Ronie Kendig keeps up the mystery and suspense. Her writing keeps you guessing and just when you think you have it all figured out, she throws in a twist. The book is never boring and keeps your eyes glued to the pages to the point that you just can’t put it down. Worthy of binge reading with its predecessor Storm Rising. The book is a perfect blend of the rapid fire action that we all know and love as well as the hints of romance in a realistic and Christian manner. If you decide to purchase, I guarantee that you will finish screaming for the the third installment. A must read especially in these trying times.
I’ve read quite a few Ronie Kendig books, but usually well after an entire series is published, so I never had to wait for the next book to come out. This is the first series I’ve read as it’s been introduced to the world, and let me tell you… It is the best kind of torture.
SUGGESTION: I would read Storm Rising first. You’re missing out on a lot of background and history if you don’t, and the suspense/tension factor will be so much better if you’ve read book one. And along those lines… if you read book one last year, it wouldn’t hurt to re-read it again before you tackle Kings Falling. I wish I had. There were a few things I didn’t quite remember that I wish were fresh in my mind.
This book. These characters. This storyline! WARNING: It’s going to feel unfinished–and it is–because this book is quite clearly the bridge between books one and three in that it’s both continuing and ramping up a storyline that will not be resolved until the next book. So many questions… so many things to scream about (in a good way)… If you can appreciate a writer that gets you so invested in a story that you’re literally chomping at the bit to continue reading–Kendig is for you. Seriously.
Oh. My. Once again Ronie Kendig leaves me utterly speechless and reeling with a cliffhanger ending that blew my socks off and left my heart stuck in my throat. My brain is screaming, and my eyes can’t even blink. I need CPR. I might need a defibrillator.
Kings Falling continues the secret ops adventures of Leif Metcalfe and his team Reaper. In a race to stop Armageddon, Reaper must find the Book of Wars and eliminate unwitting agents who are being activated as assassins, but by whom? Meanwhile, Leif struggles with his own memory loss, night terrors, and strange flashes of what seems to be someone else’s memories. How can Leif pursue a relationship with Iskra, who has secrets of her own, when he isn’t sure what is happening to him and could potentially harm her or her daughter?
Kings Falling is a must-read for every adventure seeker, every Indiana Jones explorer, everyone who has ever been captivated by Ronie Kendig’s books in the past. You will never be disappointed by Kendig, although you will be in hung-over trance when you close the final chapter!
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Excellent! The search continues for the Book of the Wars with Lief Metcalfe leading Reaper across the world to track down the Neiothen (soldiers who have been trained to assassinate). It’s a deadly game and the enemy always seems to be one step ahead. Full of fast paced adventure and edge of your seat excitement. I did not see the ending coming. Cannot wait to read the final book in the series Soul Raging when it releases.
Edge of Seat, White Knuckle Reading
Ronie Kendig does not disappoint with her second book in the Book of Wars series, Kings Falling. She is the queen of military suspense and this story will grab your full attention as you sit white knuckled on the edge of your seat.
“As the race for the Book of Wars escalates, the world teeters on the brink.”
Will Leif and Reaper be able to stop the ArC? What will become of Iskra and Leif’s relationship? What happened to Leif?
These are all questions that you will be asking as you read through Kings Falling. Kendig knows how to work a story so that it twists and turns in a way that keeps you from seeing what is right in front of you. Her plots are full of suspense, lots of action and drama and a little bit of romance thrown in. Her plots will keep you as riveted as her characters and the interplay between them.
I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.
Well this book sure packed a punch! I thoroughly enjoyed digging deeper into the story and the development of characters and relationships made me so happy! So many amazing twists and turns to be found in this plot. I will say that I’m really concerned about where Leif is heading, but I have every confidence in Ronie Kendig and her ability to bring things full circle! I can’t wait for Soul Raging!! I need to know what happens next!
Kings Falling continues the incredibly high stakes action and epicness that began in Storm Rising. Leif, Iskra, and the crew kept me chuckling at their banter, guessing at what on earth they were up to, cringing at them doing a stupid (again), and internally screaming at/for them when things (of course) went totally sideways. I can’t wait to see how their stories (and that cliffhanger!) resolve in Soul Raging!
Kings Falling kept me hooked to the very last word, and I highly recommend you go grab a copy!
**I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.**
It is amazing to me how Ronie Kendig can take a verse from the Bible (Numbers 21:14) and turn it into a book series! Kings Falling is the second book in the series, and it is an extraordinary read. I couldn’t put it down! When I finished the book it still weigh heavily on my mind. For those that love prophecy, the End Times, and Armageddon related books, this would be a good read. It opens with a select elite group of fighters whose call sign is Reaper, chasing down the Book of the Wars, which is actually a scroll. The Book of the Wars is not just an account of past wars, but is also a prophecy of future wars. The Book is said to contain the code names of a super soldier, called the Neiothen. The Neiothen are a secret group that don’t realize who and what they are. They have computer chips embedded in their brains, that when they hear their code, they are activated to kill. Reaper is in a race to stop them, unfortunately they don’t have the book, only parts that We’re scanned. So they don’t know who all the evil Neiothens are or where they will attack next. If I had to sum up this book in one word, it would be Wow! It is thought provoking, not easily forgotten. The action is nonstop, jumping from country to country. Character development of the Reaper team is so good that you get drawn into their lives. Their code names fit their personalities, and it’s amazing how they care about each other, and how they work together. They can tease each other, but when the going gets tough, they would die for each other. If I could give this book ten stars I would. Beautifully written, hard to forget, and makes you impatient for the next book in the series to be released. Terrific series, well worth the time to read.

So, yeah, I recently finished this and I just…I can’t…AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
I really don’t think I can wait for November for Soul Raging. This book! My heart, my head, my loves! All the characters need to be okay, please! I will beg on my hands and knees for them to come out of this alright! Or at least healing. I’ll accept them not being 100% but they need to be healing! There’s family potential going on here and apologies need to be said and secrets need to be unveiled.
This book definitely got a little darker, tugging on more emotions. Everyone is examining their places in the world (it feels like), and how they fit with the team and themselves. And then they’re still hunting for the Book of the Wars and the Neiothein. From the previous book, there were definitely things that I’d suspected (Leif’s missing time, Andrew being more than he seemed, etc) and while certain things weren’t expressly stated, I feel like I’ve gotten started on answers, at the very least.
I wavered between getting excited and getting frustrated with Leif and Iskra. Don’t get me wrong, I love both of them and I know they’re both kind of new to this, but it seemed like every time one of them would start to open up, the other would pull away. Granted, that was usually because Leif was being paranoid, although some of the internal reasonings, I don’t blame either of them. I did like that they talked about a potential future and both seem open to it. All that being said: Leif!! No! Please, no! There’s got to be more to this! I know there’s secrets and fear, but just, stay on the good side! Don’t take the cookies!
I ended up with a few more questions regarding Cell. Although that was mostly because I still feel like his assignment with Reaper has more to it. But maybe I’m just reading into things because there’s so many questions left! And Mercy…more questions! Like her past. Clearly there’s stuff there and someone went to great lengths to discover it so that Andrew had a pressure point to leverage. And of course, Andrew. Seriously, Loki, what’s the end game here? Basically: ALL THE QUESTIONS!
I did like that even though it feels like Mercy is still trying to misplace feelings for Ram, she’s slowly opening herself to a potential something with Baddar. And Peyton and Adam seem to (please, oh please let it be real) heading towards something interesting as well.
I loved getting to see more of Canyon and Dani and their family. Hopefully they come back and Dani gets to smack Leif upside the head again. Please survive for familial abuse! And then there was that appearance of Canyon’s there at the end…QUESTIONS!
Amazing! This book was so good once I started reading I couldn’t stop. Ronie does such an amazing job writing books! I’m now impatiently waiting for the next book I can’t wait to see how the story finishes!
Kings Falling is a labyrinth of a story that kept me turning pages as fast as I could without coming up for air! Ronie Kendig has crafted a unique and enthralling thriller of a story with high stakes, believable circumstances, and a team you would want to covering your 6.
This is the kind of book that’s best read in sequence with the first book, Storm Rising. The pace of Kings Falling never lets up – with almost whiplash impact, Leif, Iskra, and the team travel the globe to put together fragments of truth about the famed Book of the Wars. Seeing the team reunited and learning more about some of my favorites was just a bonus (I’m talking Mercy, Lawe and Pete, and even Cell). Getting a peek into their perspectives every now and then added more layers and tension (ahem, CELL) to the events happening. I really, REALLY hope book 3 will complete some of these hinted story trails!
I’m intrigued – though not at all surprised – with the way Kendig has crafted this story. Every tiny detail is important to the whole, and the cohesion of the plot and of the characters on the page is riveting. I was, in turn, surprised, delighted, frustrated, humored, mad, and even impressed; sometimes all in the same paragraph ! The psychological dimensions and growth of Leif and Iskra were my favorite.
I highly recommend this story to any fans of military suspense, thrillers, or action-packed, team-centric drama. November and Soul Raging (book 3) can’t come soon enough!
Thank you to the publisher, Bethany House, for the review copy. This is my honest review.
