Leif Metcalfe and his team, dubbed Reaper, need to recover the stolen, ancient Book of the Wars if they hope to stop the Armageddon Coalition and their pursuit of global economic control. But their attention has been diverted by a prophecy in the book that foretells of formidable guardians who will decimate the enemies of ArC. While Iskra Todorova uses her connections in the covert underworld to … to hunt down the Book of the Wars, Leif and Reaper attempt to neutralize these agents but quickly find themselves outmaneuvered and outgunned. The more Reaper tries to stop the guardians, the more failure becomes a familiar, antagonistic foe. Friendships are fractured, and the team battles to hold it together long enough to defeat ArC. But as this millennia-old conspiracy creeps closer and closer to home, the implications could tear Leif and the team apart.

For me, Ronie Kendig keeps getting better and better. I’ve found my enjoyment of her work growing with every book and the latest is no exception. Storm Rising was very good, and as a reader you wonder how an author is going to follow a great book. The answer is with an epic one. There were some crazy events in KF, some things that left my mind going at 100 miles an hour, and a bubbling undercurrent that’s making me wish I could read the final installment now.
Vibrant characters, global-trotting mayhem and big life issues, all wrapped up in a fantastic plot. Easy to give this one five stars.
Can we say upping the ante Batman? Everything Ronie Kendig is known for, witty banter between team member, intricate plots with twists and turns, conspiracies, intrigues—it’s all within these pages ten fold. And good thing this is fiction or all the conspiracy theorists would be on high alert. Make sure to read book 1 though! Now I’m marking days off my calendar for book three to see how this epic story ends.
Is it possible to give this more than 5 stars? This definitely deserves more than 5! Wow! This book will take you on a wild ride right from page one! Every time I thought I had it figured out something new would come along. It was so good! Ronie Kendig does such an excellent job writing stories that pack a punch. There was an incredible amount of detail in this book! I loved the way the characters interacted with each other. This book has me begging for book 3!
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
Excellent read! It was full of action with a little romance and historical artifacts. Perfect combination! I have loved every book of Ronie Kendig’s that I’ve read so far. She continues to amaze me with her literary genius. I can’t wait for the third book to come out!
This is the second book in Ronie Kendig’s The Book of the War’s series, I read and reviewed Storm Rising! when it released last year, and boy was it captivating. I think that it is important to read the books in order as Ronie Kendig builds the characters in the first book and you get to know them and their situations. You may be slightly confused if you read them out of order.
The characters in Kings Falling build upon what was established in Storm Rising. I loved getting to know the characters better and how the different subplots are working together. That is one reason I love reading Ronie Kendig’s books, they always have a great depth of character. Aside from the main characters, the secondary characters caught my interest in this book, and I am not sure how we will get their full stories before the series ends (Uhm, Hint for more books about them?). I loved all the character’s playful banter, the dangerous situations, and the real-life problems that they faced together as a team.
The storyline is very intriguing and keeps me guessing, especially how this book ended. I am very much anticipating the release of Soul Raging coming out in November. The storyline reminds me of stories along the lines of Lord of the Rings, or The Chronicles of Narnia albeit with more fast-paced adrenaline run than either of those stories.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars for the second book being just as good (if not better than) the first, for the great characters, and for keeping me up till midnight reading to see the ending only to get the shock of a lifetime. I highly recommend this book!
*I volunteered to read this book in return for my honest feedback. The thoughts and opinions expressed within are my own.
You know, I feel like I’m running out of adjectives to describe Ronie Kendig’s writing. You must know by now how much I love her writing, her creativity, and her heart-pounding action. King’s Falling is no exception.
The story begun in Storm Rising continues with heart-pounding action, a bit of passion, and a whole lotta tension, and true to her tagline (Rapid-Fire Fiction), it doesn’t stop. Kendig finds ways to honor God, military/paramilitary, and human growth and compassion in sometimes subtle but always beautiful ways.
I loved, loved, LOVED this story, and am anxious for Soul Raging, coming in November!!
Heart-Pounding Missions To Stop The Activation Of A Super Army With Deadly Intent Leads This Team Of Intelligent, Special Forces Operators On The Quest Of A Lifetime.
Kings Falling demands your attention and will not allow you to put it down.
* I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts below are my own.
As the search for the Book of Wars continues, Leif Metcalfe and his team, Reaper, will stop at nothing to keep the Neiothen from activating and destroying the world! Award-winning, best-selling author, Ronie Kendig, is back with another heart-stopping novel that will keep you simultaneously on the edge of your seat and turning the pages as fast as you can.
What is there to say about a novel that one finds simply excellent all the way around? Since reading Storm Rising , book one in the Book of Wars series last summer, I’ve racked time with ten other Kendig novels. Her masterfully created paramilitary stories are fascinating, captivating and heartwarming. Upon the release of her newest book, Kings Falling, book two in the Book of Wars series, I’m here to encourage readers to run and grab a copy of this book for themselves!
It is no wonder that Ronie Kendig is a best-selling, award winning author. The diverse, heroic male and female characters she created for the Reaper team are people we, as readers, connect with, admire and adore. To find them back together again to continue where Storm Rising left off, hunting down the Book of Wars while decoding the bits and pieces of intel they gathered from the book that was thought to be lost in Biblical times is thrilling and readers can be assured danger is just around the corner!
Kendig lays out yet another gripping storyline with fast-paced action and daring maneuvers. Her military jargon and realistic unfolding of events demonstrates her knowledge and excites readers with fiction that is unlike any other. She delivers authentic characters with relatable fears, joys and struggles as well as deepening romantic relationships among the team. The twist, and added benefit, of an imaginative, spell-binding supernatural element is just icing on the proverbial cake.
I highly encourage readers to read Storm Rising first. Kings Falling picks up where the first book left off and will continue with a third story, Soul Raging, slated to arrive in fall of 2020. In comparison to the first book of the series, this newest novel didn’t have quite as much action but the camaraderie, intensity and banter among these friends and teammates was the same enjoyable experience!
Kendig’s books are more edgy that most Christian fiction but are “clean”. Her books do contain military tactics and are mildly graphic and may contain an element of gore. I recommend her books for adults and mature teens 16+.
“Kings Falling,” the second installment of the Books of the Wars series continues to hold your attention hostage! Kendig’s commitment to military authenticity is obvious in all her special forces stories, which I appreciate. The characters are familiar and well developed and the reader can’t help but connect with them.
Leif Metcalfe and the rest of the Reaper team are back, attempting to recover the famed Book of the Wars. The group that is in possession of the ancient texts, the Armageddon Coalition, are as deadly as they are devious, and nothing will stop them from attempting to bring the disturbing prophecies held within the book to life.
As the team begins this fight that could alter the course of history, Leif’s past disappointments and close calls rear their ugly head. Can the Reaper team actually defeat such formidable opponents? Can they survive the challenges ahead of them? Or will fear wedge itself in between the members of this special ops team?
Taking the reader across the globe, from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Afghanistan, and the Netherlands to Taipei, the second book in the series will capture your attention with dangerous spy drama and luscious settings. The characters are flawed, but strong, and the team’s connection is believable. Kendig always keeps me on the edge of my seat and excited for the next book to come. Don’t miss this one!
I was an early reader, thanks to Bethany House and the author. All opinions are my own honest thoughts on the book.
“Leif tightened his jaw and curled his fingers into a fist. I’m committed. I’m not going to walk away from something I haven’t finished.”
The intensity just keeps ramping up with every turn of the page. Storm Rising was among my top picks for last year, so I’ve eagerly awaited this second book from The Book of The Wars series.
“Six months of my life are missing, like someone erased them. How can that not be bad?” Leif continues to struggle with that missing chunk of time. Digging for the truth. What happened?
With unexpected twists and turns, Kendig masterfully draws us into a whirlwind rush to stop a massive worldwide conspiracy. Kings Falling is filled with so much action, intrigue, travel and adventure that I felt like a part of the Reaper team. As Reaper seems to fail one mission after another in stopping ArC, I couldn’t help but feel their frustration and losses. I loved the camaraderie of the team. Their whit, banter and communication was really well written. Kendig had me laughing, cheering, wincing, and worrying over this team. The reference to chess and the kings’ falling was a great picture of how this story was played out. The culmination of the book had me begging for the final book in the series, with a cliffhanger that was unexpected and intense. The rollercoaster ride this team took, kept me wondering what would happen next. I absolutely loved Leif and Iskra. Their relationship holds so much promise and yet, so much to work through to attain their happily ever after. Kendig brought so many ups and downs for this couple and the Reaper team, that I can’t wait for the rest of their story. This story was awesome, so I know book three Soul Raging will be phenomenal.
I highly recommend this series for anyone who loves international conspiracy, special ops, and just a really great read. I would liken this series to Joel C Rosenberg, who I just read and thoroughly enjoyed. There is a light touch of romance that has a thread of sticking together through the tough times. Warning: This book should come with a disclaimer that it will cause an overactive imagination or the conspiracy theorist in you to come out.
I was provided an advanced reader copy of this book through NetGalley by the publisher. All opinions in this review are given honestly.
Kings Falling is exciting, thrilling, twisty-turny, and is guaranteed to keep you up at night reading (in the best way).
In this book 2 of her Book of the Wars series we find ourselves dropped into the middle of the action started from book 1 Storm Rising (no surprise there). But there are a few changes…
*First off, there could be mild spoilers in here for you with Book 1 SO be sure you’ve read it before moving on in my review*
First off, Iskra has joined the team (mostly) and I love her involvement with them as well as with Leif! Per usual, there’s not much time to settle in though before we hit the ground running in a race to stop the Armageddon Coalition and to save the world!
I love how Ronie is able to balance the action along with the character development of the team and of the main characters. I also love how this book takes you ALL over the place! The beauty of being a part of Reaper!
All in all, it’s everything you’ve come to expect from a Kendig novel. Fast paced, thrilling, and action-forward, but not without heart and emotional entanglements that make life (and reading) interesting!
If you haven’t started this series yet, what are you waiting for?
“He pulled her spine to his chest and tightened his arms around her. Crushed her close. Anything so he didn’t pummel her with apologies and let her see his brokenness, the terror that had claimed his soul.”
What an incredible thrilling adventure with the Reaper team! This sequel to Storm Rising takes the team all over the world as it seeks to recover that elusive Book of the Wars from the hands of the villain and to neutralize the band of super-soldiers dubbed Neiothen before they become activated to do the villain’s biddings. The first book is a must-read before starting this one because it lays out all the background information and this book adds delicious details and major plot twists to that background. Reading this book is like tasting and savoring one layer of a scrumptious three-tier cake at a time, loving how each ingredient and flavor meld to make a beautiful creation and trembling with excitement and anticipation at what the next layer will hold.
The plot is fast-paced with plenty of action, adrenaline, and suspense. The team’s banter and camaraderie are fun and hysterical. The secondary characters, like Peyton, Adam, Mercy, and Cell, become more solidified in this book and it was truly a pleasure to get to know the other team members better. And, wow, the plot twists had my head spinning and it’s still spinning days after finishing the story. Leif and Iskra, of course, are still the main characters of the series and I can’t wait to see where Ronie Kendig will take us in the final book of the series.
If you enjoy paramilitary romantic suspense/thriller, you will absolutely love this book and the series. No one does it better than Ronie Kendig! I received a copy of the book from Bethany House Publishers and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
Death and betrayal surround them on all sides…
Only the third Ronie Kendig book that I’ve read, Kings Falling was one intense roller-coaster of a ride through diverse cultures and spanning continents. It was a real page-turner and I finished it much faster than I usually would a 350+ page book with an end timesy theme, which is a genre-ish that I don’t usually read. Good ol’ Bethany House, one of the publishers who consistently produces such high quality books that I can’t help but step out of my usual comfort zone and be glad I did.
Everything seems to be falling apart for Leif and his team. All they seem to be getting are more questions and very few answers. Those in authority seem to be hiding vital information and even the team members are dealing with mounting tension between themselves. And that doesn’t even begin to touch the extreme danger Reaper is in as they face lies and betrayal in a desperate race to not only find the book but identify and stop the almost super-human warrior guardians of prophecy.
See what I mean? Intense action and adventure would be the three words that come to mind and I’m sure you can see why I had a hard time putting the book down. I actually think that Kings Falling may be my favorite of the two books so far in Ronie Kendig’s The Book Of The Wars series. After the sort-of cliffhanger they left readers on I just can’t wait the next couple of months or so until book three comes out. Please hurry, I HAVE to know what happens!
(I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
***This is the second book in a series. You need to read them in order to understand the characters and their team relationship.***
The words that I think of when I reflect on this book is “WHAT THE HECK!” This book is a ride from the beginning to the end. The ending is a cliffhanger and not what I expected. I wish I had the third book right now!
Team Reaper is trying to save the world from Armageddon. They travel around the world and do their best to save the world from an organization that is trying to grab power from governments. You know that the events are huge when they are in search of “The Book of Wars”, an ancient and detailed prophecy of the end days.
The book is action-packed from the beginning. The team is made up of operatives who are skilled in different areas and know what they are doing. Their relationship drives the story and how they help and react to each other. The book is emotional and suspenseful.
It contains Christian themes and violence.
Source: I received a complimentary copy. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my goshhhhhh.
It’s really not fair that one author can be *this* amazing.
If Storm Rising was awesome and incredible, Kings Falling was mind-blowing and ferociously epic.
Where do I even begin??
Obviously, I adored reuniting with the team. Every member is so unique and comes with their own baggage to unpack and struggle with. I adore each one and the diversity and complexity of Reaper has completely stolen my heart.
One thing that really hit me in this book was the way the characters are developing. They have new enemies. Fears. Adversity. They are facing something entirely unprecedented, and as the characters fight individual battles, I adored watching as they interact with each other and handle some pretty awful situations. I think my two favorite character explorations were Leif and Cell. They are changing, growing, learning, and it’s AMAZING. (I’m trying to be vague here, but gahhhhhh)
As always, I enjoyed the world-travel I got to accomplish through Ronie’s skilled pen. It is *so much fun* going to tons of new places and accompanying the team as they fight against the powers of evil across the globe.
I thought the experiment/super soldier element was fascinating, and it adds so many feels to an already intense adventure.
**If I can make a personal admission here, I miss my superhero movies. Now that Marvel has advanced into an entirely new phase, and Black Widow is postponed to November, it’s a balm to my disappointment to jump into Ronie’s incredible writing and larger-than-life journeys.** #nerdout
To be real, I’m a smidgen obsessed with this story, but be prepared, because, um…that ending made me question Ms. Kendig’s status as a nice human.
Is it November yet?
I received a complimentary copy of this book, and a positive review was not required.
Content Advisory: This is a military/spy romantic thriller, so there are intense elements, including violence and war. Even suicide. Ronie tackles tough topics through a fascinating story and amazing heroes. That’s kind of what makes these books so special. But be aware, some elements may not be appropriate for younger audiences.
I enjoyed this book more than the first one. It dives deep into the female character a little more, which I liked. Also, some of the minor characters got a little more page time, so it was nice to get to know. Kendig does a wonderful job of keeping you on the edge of your seat and change the direction of the story where the reader doesn’t think or want to go, but makes the story better.
Kings Falling is the second book in Ronie Kendig’s The Book of the Wars series. I’d advise reading the first book, Storm Rising, before reading this one. I read Storm Rising when it was released last year and wished I’d reread it before I started this one. One of Kendig’s strengths is creating deep, complex, and well-developed characters and involving them in nonstop action, precarious situations, and thrilling escapades. This book was typical Kendig fare. The various personalities and strengths of the characters added to my enjoyment of the story, and I loved the witty banter between the members of the team. The action is intense, and I often wondered how the author was going to get the team members out of their predicaments, but she always managed to do it in creative, imaginative ways.
I found myself a little confused at times with the characters sometimes being called by their first name, other times with the last name, and still others by a nickname. Also, the use of acronyms and military terms kept me guessing. The ending was rather abrupt and is sure to be continued in the final book of the series, but it left me feeling a little unsettled and hanging.
If you enjoy mind-blowing action and suspense with lots of intrigue and spots of romance thrown in, this is the series for you. Just be aware that you’ll need to read the whole series to get the full story.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from Bethany House Publishers through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
“If caught, they’d likely get charged with attempted murder, not with interdiction of said attempt, and vanish like so many others into a prison camp”
Well, if that quote doesn’t prove Kings Falling able to keep you at the edge of your seat, I don’t know what will.
Leif Metcalfe and his team are still on a mission to find Ammardegon and stop this superpowerful army. To do so, they need to find some people gone AWOL, decrypt a book written in different languages that might not even be spoken anymore, and infiltrate a country. Add to that, Leif needs to find time to prove Iskra she can trust him while he secretly searches for answers of what happened to him years ago. Add to that the fact that Lief thinks Iskra might be hiding something. Conspiracy, twists and turns, but also dreams of normalcy (vague? I know) keep your turning the page nonstop until… you hit the last one and find yourself in need of the third book 😉
Loved the variety of characters and the realistic dialogue between them. The suspense factor is off the charts good. There were a few times I was a little lost with the military discussions and terminology, but that was my fault, not the author’s. The ending left me reeling!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher, but this review is all my opinion.
Iskra Todorova (Viorica from Storm Rising) is now fighting on the side of right. She and Leif have a romantic relationship still taking shape. Iskra is after the Book of Wars because she has been told it will lead her to a group of super warriors and her brother. She hasn’t seen her brother in 10 years but feels as if he might be fighting on the side of wrong. If she can find him, she will do everything she can to save him. Meanwhile, she must play a dangerous game with an old nemesis who also wants her to find the Book of Wars for him as he has plans to conquer the world via his nefarious organization, ArC. She must pretend to be looking for the book for him because he claims to have information about her brother.
Leif Metcalfe is in charge of a special forces operations team called Reaper. Their original task was to locate the Book of Wars, but they also have information about specific super soldiers. These super soldiers work alone but gain access to high powered targets and eliminate them. Reaper now must stop these soldiers before they claim their next target. Reaper hasn’t been too successful in the past at stopping them, but maybe this time they will succeed. Meanwhile, Leif is having the same nightmare or is it suppressed memories? He still is searching for information about his six-month memory loss and is frustrated that he keeps hitting roadblocks from his boss and others. Sometimes these memories or imaginings are accompanied by a pain in his head. Is he going crazy?
Wow, what an adrenaline rush! Whew, there is so much action in this book that you, like me, will be unable to wait until November for the third book to be released! I definitely recommend reading book one, Storm Rising, before reading this book because book two picks up right where book one leaves off. There is lots of military jargon, but I found it easy to follow. I loved seeing the storylines between Adam and Peyton, Mercy and Baddar, and the others progress. There are plenty of plot twists and great characters to admire, root for, or root against. My only negative is that there is no mention of faith or Christ, and this is categorized as Christian fiction.
Kings Falling by: Ronie Kendig
Leif Metcalf and the team are once again embroiled in a mad search for “The Book of Wars”. They’d had it. Lost it. The little bit that had been copied wasn’t complete. And now the techies are at work searching the world for these super soldiers. Assassins.
Iskra so wanted freedom from her old life, but to be safe she had to find the book and her brother. Leif wanted a life with her, but she wasn’t sure how that would work. His brothers had done well, making lives for themselves, but is it in the cards for Leif?
Ms. Kendig has crafted another fast paced, gripping novel that will keep you on edge right up to the end, and then, Oh My! King’s Falling is a great read. I love the way she weaves the personalities of her characters with action and tension to create this world of intrigue. An awesome adventure! Thank you, Ma’am!
