This book was everything. It’s life. I have no words other than to say if you haven’t started this series you should RIGHT NOW. This is the first series I have been as invested in as Harry Potter. It does not disappoint right up to the very last word.
If I could give it six stars I would.
Go read it!
A satisfying, emotional ending to this series. A long book that felt satisfying because of the long wait. Now to go back to the beginning all over again…
This has been a journey. One with emotion, one with lots and lots of emotions! And I’ll have to say that this was pretty great conclusion to the series!
There are a lot of POVs here! And I love so many of the characters that I can’t really choose a favorite. The only POVs I could have probably done without were Aedion’s and Lysandra’s. The others just had so much more going on within them. Manon and her witches had to be my favorite! Lorcan! Loved him! My baby Dorian! Rowan is swoon! Yrene is courageous! Nesryn is fierce! Fenrys I want to pet his face! Chaol we’re cool now after the last book! Elide you’re brave! Lysandra you can do some cool tricks! Aedion you’re dependable!
Aelin has been through so dang much, and I feel like she’s such a strong character. She’s not selfish—she fights for her country, her people. We need heroes like that in the real world!
The writing was superb, and seriously, Mass deserves 5 stars just for writing such a huge book and series! Wow, the editing rounds for that scares me to think about! But seriously, I give it a 5 because it rocked! I will say that I need an epilogue of a certain character…
The amount of times my heart pounded or I ugly-cried: countless. A wonderful end to the series. I’m hoping to see some of the characters again in a spinoff.
A fantastic end to an enthralling series.
If you like fantasy and extremely kick-ass heroines then check out this series!
Ohmygod. Just omg. This book gave me emotional whiplash. I laughed, cried, yelled, and choked back sobs in just about every chapter of this book. Emotionally scarring, but… also amazing.
his book took be a while to finish, not only because it is so big but because I wanted to take my time with it.
Being it the last book and not wanting to spoil it for anyone I will make it fairly short.
This book was one of my favorite series ending, it left me feeling really satisfied. But don’t let that fool you before we get that we are sent on roller coaster ride from hell…… The ups and downs in this book about killed me. I laughed one moment just to be sobbing the next page. It was quite stressful.
I did like how everything wrapped up …. For the most part anyway, there was one thing I would have loved to see more but I guess there is always something we want more of in a series finale.
We see some people we have not seen since book one, we also come back to the spot it all began and it is crazy what a wild ride this series has been. Everyone has grown and changed so much, we met so, so many people along the way. This series has quiet the big cast of characters and each one played a part in this last book.
Everyone paid a price in this war, some more than others.
We meet the crew months after the ending of Empire of Storms and with that Tower of Dawn. The groups are scattered all over the continents, each fighting for them and for a better and with that getting rid of Erawan and Maeve but of course that is not easy , not easy at all.
I love how far Celina/ Aeline has come since we first met her, even with all she has been through she still won’t give up for herself but mainly for her people. I really loved her in this book and my heart broke a few times for her. Especially in the beginning of the book.
Rowan, well he was Rowan in all his glory and sorrow and I loved his journey throughout the series. The good, the bad, the ugly and the steamy.
Dorian, I was never really team Dorian when it came to the OG team, Celina, Chaol and him, but I really enjoyed him the last few books and even more in this. Some things are changing for him, while I was not really sure what to think of it at first I really ended up liking it.
Chaol, he used to me my man, I was always team Chaol and I still am in a way, but not as much as I used to be. His journey changed so much in the last few books, not to be worse just different he is defiantly not the captain of the guard we met in book one anymore. I don’t want to say he is weaker or whines more he is just …. Different and has different priorities than Aelin.
Lysandra was once again one of my favorites in this book. She was a trooper and hero and gave so much, her character also grew so much since we first met her.
Elide is also someone we met later on in the series but ended up being vital to the story and the finale , while I was never her biggest fan, I liked her a lot. And the shitty treatment she got from people not only throughout the series but this book was sad and hard to read at times and defiantly not fair.
Iyrene was someone I was not sure about at first but ended up really likening. She just had a way to sneak into people’s hearts as she does also here with everyone she meets.
Manon, my girl Manon … man…. She was someone I really didn’t get her the beginning and sort of skimped over but ended up loving her so much. I think she, besides Aelin had the biggest growth throughout the series since we met her.
I really would love to see a series just about the witches in this world …. Not necessarily Manon but just all the witch tribes in general.
Aedion and Lorcan, I both loved and wanted to throttle at the same time. Yes , they were stressed but so was everyone else. Both just were little assholes at times and then again oh sooo sweet.
Of course there are so many more people in this book and I’m sure I’m forgetting someone but there was just too many and many things happening, plus it is hard not to spoil stuff.
One of the things I liked the most was, that we not only get a short epilogue after the final battle. No, we get a really nice amount of stuff afterwards to get a good glimpse of everything and everyone that made it. And how and what everyone is dealing with.
Well I guess I didn’t make it short after all, lol. Overall I LOVED this book and how it all ended and I will really miss the characters and the world. But also be warned there are many heartbreaking moments in this book. Some, I personally not sure I will ever get over. But we also get snark and laughter and many happy tears along the way and the end will make you hopefully feel happy and satisfied.
I rate this book a full 5 as well as the series, of course some are better books than others but overall it was an epic journey.
Love how Maas wrapped up this series and tied everything together.
I cannot WAIT for this book to be released. #teamrowanforever
It it only fitting that such a massive, sprawling series end with an equally sprawling final installment. This book is bursting with a tangle of character arcs and battle scenes and difficult, world-making choices. It’s nearly 1,000 pages long and while it became a little difficult to separate out the love stories and villainous plots, and while it is certainly not as consistent of a series as A Court of Thorns and Roses, I still had fun reading it. This final book had some really lovely and powerful moments tossed in amongst the tediously plotted battles, as well as some well-crafted scenes of redemption and revenge that were a satisfying payoff after following these characters for 8 books. More than anything, I loved that cameo at the end (no spoilers!). It was a well-done, if sometimes slow-going, finale to a similarly well-done, if slow-going, series.
I was so wary going into this book. To have the entire book be a massive war/battle, I thought I’d lose all the patience I was saving up. Considering my favorite parts of the TOG series is when the characters are interacting together, I had hope that with this being the final book, I’d get that promise in the end. Somehow, the characters I loved from the first two books would have their closure. Small disclosure, I read this book before reading book 6 (and besides a few character interactions/relationships, did not feel like I missed anything… I’m sorry, Chaol. I’ll get to your story eventually).
I think I was still disappointed in that closure. It was there, but not really enough considering everything that had happened. I felt like the moments with Chaol and Dorian and Aelin together should have been… more. Their goodbyes felt rushed and flat when they should have been the most impactful considering that’s how all of this started. Sadly, the end really didn’t really make me feel anything except “okay, it’s over. what do I read next?” – I somewhat hoped for a book hangover.
In a surprising move, Dorian became my favorite character. I’ll always love the part of Aelin that remained Celaena (the sass, the stabs, the banter). Several others stepped up and became enjoyable – I have a soft spot for minor characters who have special and unique relationships with the main characters. Fenrys was one of those characters. There was one character death that had me annoyed (because it served absolutely no purpose, it was just death for the sake of making a loved character die), but there were other deaths that served and made my heart break.
All in all, it’s a good series. Maybe I’m still frustrated that the first and third books were so bland, but it was worth it in the end. Character interactions make these stories good, and the books that were all about those interactions were the best.
I just finished third book yesterday, have been gradually reading the series over the summer, and I just loved these books. They are so unpredictable, and lasted a long time, which is awesome, because sometimes a series is over too quickly. Anyways, loved the characters, plot twists, humor, symbols, romamce, etc.
How to even begin to write this review? This book was the last one of this amazing, wonderful and beautiful series. And it couldn’t have ended in a better way. Sarah J. Maas did it masterfully.
To be honest, I was excited, scared, sad and nervous about reading this book. I was excited because I needed to know what was going to happen and how things were going to solve. But, at the same time, I was scared, sad, and nervous because I didn’t want the series to finish. And I didn’t want to see any character die. Because, honestly, I fell in love with this beautiful world and its characters.
This book was so perfectly written and I love that we get to read pretty much every character’s POV. I think to finish a series this long it’s super hard, but Sarah did it just perfectly. Giving us such a round and lovely ending.
SPOILER AHEAD!!!
So, I really have no words to express how much I love Elide and Lorcan. I mean, honestly, they are perfect! I love them since Empire of Storms and I just couldn’t wait for them to come back to loving each other. And I have to say I almost cry in that scene when Elide goes to the battlefield to rescue Lorcan! AAAAH! That scene was just GLORIOUS! I could read a whole book just about them.
The only thing that I didn’t love that much about this book was Dorian’s story. I was expecting a more solid ending for him. I feel like he ended up so lonely. Ok, I know that Manon was going to visit and all that but I needed something more. Because I feel that Dorian suffered so so so much the whole series that he deserved a happy ending. And I think his ending was too bland or too ambiguous.
However, aside from that, this book was perfect. And besides that, I’m giving it 5 stars because, again, it was perfect.
Awesome series. Hard to put the book down.
It has been a roller coaster ride of emotions with this final book, which I knew it would be. I honestly did not expect to cry as much as I did though
Sarah’s writing is just so raw…so real…you experience what the characters are going through. It’s easy for me to get completely lost and caught up in her writing.
My favorite thing about this series?? All the beautiful, strong, independent and powerful women who had mates standing beside them and supporting them…not hindering them. Absolutely LOVED this.
I rarely read fantasy before. Then I met a great group of ladies, one of which reads almost nothing but fantasy. So of course we started reading what each of us likes to read. Thank goodness I branched out and tried a different genre because a whole other world is now at my fingertips
But for now, I’m just going to sit here a while and reflect…and slowly come to the realization that man…this series is over. What do I do now?
This book is a great fantasy read. I was hooked from the start and devoured every word. A great read, I really enjoyed it.
This series: Masters. The whole lot of them. This book is like a bible! I remember when I first got it in the mail: I carefully took it out of the box and just stared at it. I held it with such reverence as I read it and it’s as big as a bible I love how vividly written it is. I could see so many scenes as if they were playing on the screen. Tears were shed and I felt so humble after I turned the last page.
Sarah J Maas is one to make the impossible possible. I always think things are hopeless and then Maas surprises us with an even worse situation. It’s unbelievable. I can’t wrap my head around it.
I love how Maas writes the ladies to fight like they’re mad, but she writes the men strongly too. None of them are weak, but the ladies are the crazy heroines. I will never forget these characters who came to life by an amazing writer. I think this is the best book I will ever read in my entire life. Unless Maas writes an even better one, which I doubt;) Bravo to writing the book of the century.
The first 75% or so was so good. Mind-blowingly good. And then the ending came. Without any spoilers, I will say that the ending left me (a little) disappointed. It was still good, but not the epic showdown that I wanted. I didn’t take any stars off because I see where the author was going with it and why she made the choices she did. I just didn’t 100% agree with it as a reader. But it was still a great book and an overall series that I recommend.
Absolutely loved this series and this one was amazing! Tears were running down my face (multiple times!) as this series came to its conclusion.
It was a great (although emotional) read with a satisfying ending. Will definitely binge read this whole series again in the future.
