What an ending! I was braced for a lot worse to happen, I could not have predicted how it actually went down. Especially when I consider where everyone was in the first book. A few things did bug me, but they were mostly because of my own preferences. Like I don’t care for characters being tortured, and I don’t care for extended battle scenes. Some of the predictable Maas writing habits did make themselves known (her couples are never as good being together as they are in the process of getting together), but above all of that, I’m just glad that this ending worked out so much better than ACOWAR because this series really was more consistent and I enjoyed seeing Aelin twist and turn her way out of situations.
As someone who has been with this series from the very beginning, I could not have dreamed a better finale. I cried, I laughed, I cried some mORE (on public transit no less), and at the end of everything I felt utterly satisfied with how Aelin and Cohorts’ journey found its end.
OMG THE BEST BOOK EVER!!! I LOVE IT IT ENDED GOOD BEST BOOK ENDING EVER!!!
What an ending! There’s not much I can say without risking spoilers, but Maas amazingly pulled off an ending (I’m not going to say happy, satisfying, tragic, or anything that might ruin the book) for all of her characters. The loose strings all wound together in a way I didn’t think possible at the end of book six in the series.
If I had any complaints, it would be that some characters who entered the series very late in the game became pivotal in the final battle in a way that makes me wonder if Mass had written herself into a corner with her villains and had to write a whole extra novel to climb her way out of the all-powerful bad guy pit.
Either way, an amazing series, and well worth a read.
This was a breath taking series conclusion that made me feel so many emotions. Broke my heart a couple of times!
This book makes the years of intense waiting worth it. It is truly an epic conclusio to the series.
Kingdome Of Ash by Sarah J. Maas, A Throne Of Glass Novel
This was a magnificently written novel to end the series. Everything that had been growing over the series led to this final book and there were no loose ends. It was definitely an emotional rollercoaster for while reading this novel. I loved Aelin, Rowan, and all the other characters that played significant roles in this series. I was sad that there was so much death with all the fighting but I could not put this book down. It is easily 5-stars.
A good ending to a great series
So many emotions reading this book. The perfect end to an engaging series. This book had me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails, and an emotional mess in the best way possible. This book, heck, this entire series will stay with me for the rest of my life.
5 stars for series…3 for this book… I really love the first 3 & most of 4th… But I think this last one got away from Maas! While I love the multiple characters, POV’s, excellent world building and strong female’s I could have done without the long drawn out battle scenes and repetitive descriptions of clothing, castles, terrain, hair/eye/skin color most of which I skipped!! I really would have liked more of the “Better World” part letting us know how everyone grew up!!
Best ending to one of Sarah J. Maas’ best series ever.
It has been many many years since I have read a fantasy series that drains so much emotion from me that I found I needed to rest my heart often throughout the book. I put this series up there with Frank Herbert, Raymond Feist, Tolkien, Melanie Rawn, Mercedes Lackey and Anne McCAffrey. She has spun a tale with lovable characters that you will remember for the rest of your lives. And the world they live in is as vivid as looking out the window. I took them all into my heart and grieved or rejoiced along with every single one of them.
Following Aelin throughout her epic life has been a heartrending experience and a tale for the histories. Aelin began as a thief and assassin and ended as a queen. A true tale of a heroic life on an epic journey, and all the peoples and places that go with it. I have come to love her world and all the people that populate it. From the Fae to the Ironteeth to the Ruks. Even Erawan and Maeve have earned a place of hatred in my heart. To be made to feel so much for fictional characters living in a fictional world is a monumental achievement on Sarah’s part. A tale of trials and tribulations, joy and heartache, even laughter and fury is so very difficult a thing to build and sustain, and Sarah J. Maas has done a wonderful job in creating all that an epic tale should be. I truly love this series and will read it more than once.
I also feel a need to address this. I have read the other reviews, the ones that gave this a one star. The correlation to Lord of the Rings has been mentioned more than once. To this I say, Tolkien wrote the masterpiece of fantasy that entails Hobbits, Fae, humans, and monsters galore. He set the stage for the ultimate battle. To not take a page from his epic tale would be almost impossible since he basically wrote the blueprint. But to call it plagiarism is to say all books about a post apocalyptic world plagiarizes the bible. You can’t plagiarize from the “original” blueprint. You can only build fantasies from that setting and make them your own. Which Sarah definitely did. I have bought her hardcovers for this entire series and they are going up on the shelves in my home right next to Tolkien and the others. Because while there may be similarities to other fantasies, the entire storyline is unique in it’s own way, and drew me in until I could almost feel my heart bursting. That is the sign of a master, in my mind. So, reminiscent of Tolkien or not, I have come to love the world Sarah J. Maas took the time and had the creativity to build, and I have come to cherish the peoples of this world to the extent that they will remain in my heart forever.
So exceptionally well done, Sarah J. Maas! Words are not adequate to express how well done this really was. Thank you for pouring your heart into an epic tale that will always be remembered.
SPOILER FREE MY FRIENDS!!
I just… I don’t even… *incoherent sobbing babble* IT WAS SO GOOD!!!It was everything I hoped it would be and more, I’m so happy with how this series was wrapped up!
First of all, the length of this book was shockingly a non-issue. When I read A Court of Wings and Ruin earlier this year, it seemed to drag on a little too long and it took me a whole month to read it. And that was only 700 pages! When I heard that this was nearly a thousand, I was dreading it. I thought FOR SURE I’d be reading this thing for two months, but it only took me two weeks!! The pacing was absolutely perfect and kept me reading consistently the whole time without any lulls or boredom.
This installment also spent a lot of time on the battles and battle strategy, which sounds like it should be terrible, but it wasn’t! I actually really loved that so much time was spent on this. Seeing the characters talk so much about about battle strategy added a weight and tension to the whole thing that kept me reading. Plus, this has been building for SEVEN BOOKS, so the epicness of the battles really made it all feel worth it!!
And the characters!! OH GOD THE CHARACTERS! *Sobbing* I love them all so much! *More sobbing* I can’t say a whole lot without giving spoilers away, but everyone got the page time they deserved. EVERYONE. All of the characters arcs are so great and every loose end is tied amazingly. And the ships!! OMG THE SHIPS!!! So many to love and they all get highlighted in some epic emotional scenes that GAVE ME LIFE.
↬ FINAL WORD
I feel like this review is trash because there’s no possible way to write anything does this novel justice. But this book was epic and emotional and wonderful and perfect. I loved every second. An amazing end to an amazing series.
amazing “other world” story with a strong, bad-ass heroine!!
Love the entire series
I’m so sad it had to end. What an amazing serires.
This was a great ending to a very popular saga. I really enjoyed this book, Erawan and Maeve had to be defeated ir order to create a better world….But after so many struggles Aelin, Chaol, Dorain, Manon, Aedion, Rowan, Gavriel, Lorcan, Sartaq and so many others find themselves in the brink of extintion along with their hopes and dreams….
Aedion and Lisander must fight so many battles while they wait for a miracle….
Manon and Dorain must achieve the impossible, the former to unite her people and the later to find the third key and destroy Erawan.
Aelin has to face her greatest fears and endure torture to escape Maeve, while Rowan, Gavriel, Lorcan and Aelin’s cousin do everything they can to find and rescue her.
Chaoel, Yrene, Nesrin and Sartaq must travel with their army to make a final stand against evil..
This is a long book packed with action and it’s ending is everything you could expect if you love this saga.
This one, this final chapter was so hard to read. I have never cried so much whilst reading a book. It has left me gutted and in pieces unable to do anything else today. Every blow still reverberates in my heart and the joy that sits alongside it is hard won, the pain never really forgotten. The words that I want to write are hard to put down here through the tears, but I will get the down while they are raw and true. The journey of these characters has been long and ardorous. They have all been forged by pain and heartbreak, broken and bleeding, they have been changed, brought together by a young girl with many faces who just wants a better world. A world where the life and light will not snuffed out by darkness and unending pain. Where love and friendship mean everything and old wounds can be healed. I have felt every blow, every lash and flame and shard of ice with them, every raging heartbeat on paper is felt in my own heart like the beat of the warrior drums. I am utterly devastated, even through the joy at all that has transpired. The lose and the pain of everyone who was lost along the way, who will be honored and remembered by us all. Through every page of every book in this saga, I have felt Sarah’s words and talent, her soul and heart poured out on every page, worthy of praise equal to the storytelling masters who came before her. I am grateful to have been able to share this tale with my daughter, my sisters and my mom, one day sharing it with my other children and their children after. A tale to be cherished and past down through generations, treasured by all. That is what I think a writer hopes and dreams of, their tales to live on in our hearts long after they have moved on from this life, always to be remembered. You will be remembered Sarah J Maas, and your characters will always be cherished be me and mine, to whatever end.
Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas is a epic emotional roller coaster. What a fantastic conclusion to a wonderful journey that is the Throne of Glass series.
This book is about: Aelin being held captive and tortured by the Queen of the Fae for months. Aelin endures months of torture to protect all that she loves. With Aelin captured, Aedion and Lysandra remain the last line of defense to protect Terrasen from utter destruction. Yet they soon realize that the many allies they’ve gathered to battle Erawan’s hordes might not be enough to save them. Scattered across the continent and racing against time, Chaol, Manon, and Dorian are forced to forge their own paths to meet their fates. Hanging in the balance is any hope of salvation―and a better world.
Across the sea, his companions unwavering beside him, Rowan hunts to find his captured wife and queen―before she is lost to him forever. As the threads of fate weave together at last, all must fight, if they are to have a chance at a future. Some bonds will grow even deeper, while others will be severed forever.
I was so happy to see all the hard work and effort of Aelin come together. Daunting tasks were given to many and they faced adversity all the way. Humanity is tested, bonds are made, love is found and lost, all of my favorite characters are tested. It was so amazing following the different paths of Chaol, Manon, Adeion, Dorian, and Aelin forging efforts that seemed impossible. I was broken over and over again as fate and the reality of war fell upon each one of these characters. I almost forgot, the excellent character growth that was definitely needed.
There is a delightful crossover in this book that lit my heart and gave a wonderful easter egg!!! That’s all I’ll say about that.
I would highly suggest that you read the whole series if you haven’t already, before reading this gem. This emotional close to a war that was building really over a decade; comes to a end. Forces built and surprising alliances forged, with good and evil facing off. Beloved characters are pushed to unthinkable limits for love, life, and a better world. My only question is, who is getting the spin off from this amazing series?
The finale for the Throne of Glass series. Promises to be a blockbuster. I’ve loved this whole series and I’m sure any lover of young adult fantasy will too.
