Bria, Jon, & David. *Sigh.*
I really enjoyed this story. It had a bit of everything, and Ms. Moore creates characters that poke, prod, and rip your heart to shreds. You’ll seriously want to have someone to talk to about it after you’re done, so make sure your friends are reading it too!
(My secret wish is they would all get to live together on an island as a sexy trio making babies forever and ever amen, buuuut that remains to be seen, I suppose! HINT HINT MS AUTHOR PERSON! )
Five stars
This book has so much to it. There are complex characters, fantastic settings, genetic intrigue, an evil multi-billion dollar corporation, and a complicated romance. Bria is such a well-rounded main character and although her choices do not always feel like the right ones, they are true to her. Her development and growth over the course of the novel is so real and refreshing to experience and gives the reader a solid foundation for sticking by her. I cannot wait for book two!
If you’re a fan of high stakes, character driven YA thrillers with a splash of romance, this book needs to be added to your TBR pile.
If you’ve read my other reviews you know that YA isn’t normally my thing. I am into romance with characters that aren’t even remotely close to the age of my children LOL. That being said, King Unveiled was able to make me forget about the ages of the characters until I got frustrated with our lead Bria and I had to remind myself she’s only 18.
Ms. Moore has weaved a story that is a loose King David inspired tale, but it’s NOT heavy on any religious tones. At. All. In case you have concerns there. What we have is this sort of genre undefined sci-fi, corporate espionage-ish, action, women’s fiction, romance. Yes, that is a mouthful, but honestly there isn’t an easy way to describe the story we’re given and that’s the beauty of it.
Bria’s life has never really been her own. She’s pretty much been told who her friends should be, who she should date, how she’s supposed to act. The only time she can breathe and just be her is when she’s in Mexico. So, it was fitting that Mexico is where the tightly wound threads of her life start to unravel.
From the blurb you know this story will involve a love triangle. Something else I’m not a fan of because someone will always end up losing. Bria has been with Jon for nearly three years. Their relationship pretty much an arrangement between their parents, but then David walks into her life and he is that first tug.
The story is told entirely from Bria’s point of view, and I have to say it’s a testament to Ms. Moore’s writing that she could have me feeling so many deep emotions surrounding a party whose head we’re never in. Jon. He’s reserved, some may say rigid, but as the story unfolds the reasons are slowly explained and man it’s hard when you see how much both men care for her and in turn how much she cares for them.
It’s hard to write this review without giving spoilers because the design of it means you’re supposed to uncover the secrets that Bria has been fed all her life as she does. King Unveiled is not just one thing, it’s many plots and subplots beautifully woven in emotional and poetic pose that pulls you into the story.
The book is a good teen and young adult sci-fi romance read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good. The story is an enjoyable read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a wonderful book. It’s so emotional–every second of it. The three leads, Bria, Jon and David are so well drawn and so complex and so, just fascinating. Bria though, really stands out. The journey of how she finds her voice while discovering the truths everyone she loves hid from her is just breath-taking. Her relationship with her mother–just so sad and visceral and real. It’s just all amazing.
And the writing is gorgeous and almost lyrical. It’s just a really lovely book that keeps you guessing and wanting more. I cant wait for the next in the series!
Holy wowza, y’all! This book positively gripped me by the readerly hair and didn’t let go. It’s a King David retelling that takes all the passion and intrigue of that tale and spins it with a beautiful modern sci-fi flare. The love triangle between Bria, Jon, and David had me biting my nails, but the ultimate result just felt oh-so-right.
I didn’t grow up in a religious home, so the story of King David isn’t one I’m familiar with. However, if King Unveiled by Taralynn Moore gives any indication, I’m positive it’s a riveting and emotional story.
I’m not typically a fan of love triangles, but Ms. Moore does a lovely job of portraying this particular one with grace and ease. I understand the emotions each of the three leads might be feeling, and while I can’t fathom being in any of their shoes, their responses and reactions feel genuine to who they are as characters. But, while this story is certainly a romance, it is also so much more. There’s intrigue, unexpected twists, and a science fiction vibe that’ll wow your socks off.
I adore this story, and I fell hard for these characters. I struggled a great deal because of how much I wanted all the characters to be happy and rewarded with the true love they deserve. As with all love triangles, that simply can’t be the case. However, I’m holding out hope that the next book in the series will find the forgotten in this book his own HEA.
If I had to pick a favorite thing about this reading experience, it would undoubtedly be the quality of Ms. Moore’s writing. She can turn a phrase like no other, and her prose are gorgeous. I could probably read a grocery list written by Taralynn Moore and be sucked in until the end.
I would recommend this book to lovers of big, epic stories. Especially those who enjoy a good YA, although this story does straddle the line of YA and NA. Either way, it’s a sweet, innocent, and enjoyable ride that’ll leave any science fiction romance lover satisfied.
