What happened after the happily ever after? You all know the story of your favorite fairytale, but did you ever wonder what happened after the fairytale ending? Well we know. Not all afters end up happily, sometimes the real adventure starts much later…The forests of Elder are filled with people that change into wolves on the full moon. For Castiel, the haunted woods that the big bad wolf once … woods that the big bad wolf once roamed is anything but scary. He’s spent the past few years of his life making a home in the woods and loving every minute of it. While he isn’t a wolf, he’s befriended them and found they make great neighbors, even if many in the country still see them as the monster they once were.
Unfortunately, the change to the new winter season has brought a sickness to the wolves Castiel counts as friends. When his wolf friends need help, Castiel is there to lend a hand and to try to get his mother to see that something is wrong. The only question is, can Castiel convince Little Red Riding Hood that the wolves need help before something terrible happens?

Red’s son lives in a world divided between tree dwelling humans and earthbound wolf shifters yet doesn’t really belong to either. There is a lot of world building and character development in this book. While similar to the first two arcs, this one differs markedly in that it is not the Queen’s curse that is returning, but that of the whole village of wolf shifters. This creates an interesting dynamic and presents different challenges for our hero to overcome.
This is book 1 in the third arc of this massive year spanning project tying together fairy tales from 12 different kingdoms. As with the previous sets, this 4 book set can be read independent of the other sets, but books within the arc should be read in order and the larger series is building together towards something big
King of Wolves is the next book in the Kingdom of Fairytales and the first one in Red Ridding Hood by J.A.Armitage and B. Kristin McMichael.
We follow Castiel, Red’s son. He have made himself a home in the woods, which are not as scary anymore since Red has remove the curse on the wolves. Castiel not a wolf but his friend is. But even if the wolves are not monsters anymore a lot of people still think they are.
But sickness have reach the wolves villages. More of than are starting to reverse back to the big bad wolves they once were eating everything they find on they’re way. Soon the forest won’t have enough food for them and they will start to get closer to the human villages.
Can Castiel convince Red that the curse is coming back before something terrible happens…
I have really love the first book in the little Red Ridding Hood retelling and can’t wait to read more. I have received an arc of this book from J.A. Armitage.
The next season of Kingdom of Fairytales takes a darker turn with this book – set in the after ever after of the Little Red Riding Hood. Really enjoyed this one!
I’ve read several series by B. Kristin McMichael (I strongly recommend The Skinwalker Witchling Trilogy, the Hunter Trilogy, the Chalcedony Chronicles, and the Day Human Trilogy for those new to her work), and I’ve read everything ever published by J.A. Armitage (one of my absolute favorite authors), so I just knew that when these two teamed up to start a new sub-series in the Kingdom of Fairytales books (each sub-series of which has been either solo or co-written by Armitage) it had to be great. Well, King of Wolves: A Little Red Riding retelling (Kingdom of Fairytales: Red Riding Hood, Book 1) more than exceeded expectations. Keeping with the theme of these books (what happens after the “happily ever after”), this is the story of Castiel, wolf-loving son of Red Riding Hood. His wolf friends are in trouble and figuring out what to do about it is the start of a superb adventure that’s perfectly written and totally fun. I am more that happy to recommend this book both to the many fans of these authors and to newcomers. (Oh, and while this sub-series works perfectly as a standalone, if you’ve not read the other Kingdom of Fairytales sub-series then I definitely recommend those standalone books too.)
