I have to say, I really love the stories where old times come into a new era and you see a blend of the two. It always takes a tremendous amount of research to pull this off well and this book does an extremely good job of it.
Our story starts with Marlowe on her way to see the ever dominant Atlantean king Adam at his bar. Based on her first encounter with the big guy, she’s not entirely looking forward to the exchange, but there is still a part of her that’s drawn to him, that wants to see him again. They have a mission to complete, but who could have known that mission would throw them into a journey that would test their skills and push Marlowe well beyond her comfort zones.
I have to say, I really did love Adam. He is, for sure, a dominate alpha male, but not in the very up front in your face kind of way. Adam prefers to hold his strength and rule in check, yet all throughout the book it is there in the undertones of how he holds himself and how he talks. I really did love how this wasn’t ever actually pointed out, but you can pick it up all the same. Adam has gone through a lot in his very long lifetime, but he doesn’t allow that to pull him down. I really liked how he allowed his past experience to influence his decisions while also keeping them in check enough to not compromise who he is and what he believes in. It was really nice to see the hero of a romance not need a lot of mental work to get over extreme obstacles his past put up.
I also really enjoyed how sweet and loving he is to Marlow from the start. He winds up with a difficult decision, and doesn’t hesitate in making his choice for her benefit. Everything he does is for Marlowe, and even when he knows he should do something that might make her upset or worsen her current psychological condition, he makes the choice that best adds to her happiness.
I found Marlowe to be a very refreshing heroine. Marlowe has one heck of a messed up past mental trauma wise. This causes her to have a lot of issues in facing different life situations in the present. In this story, it’s really more Marlowe who tends to take all the emotional things out of context, which makes the story all the more interesting.
Marlowe has a huge capacity for love, but more than that, Marlow has a hidden side to her buried deep down that I absolutely loved. I really enjoyed all the ways we get to see Marlow grow and change during the course of this story and how she winds up allowing herself to be open to the idea of love again, then slowly allow it back into her life.
The one thing that did slow me down a little with this story was 100% personal preference, and that was the amount of physical fight scenes. I am the kind of girl who likes the amount of down time where the couple develops their relationship outside of stressful situations to be equal to or more than the amount of physical battle that goes on. Again, this is completely personal preference and does not lower the quality of the book. However, I wanted to point it out because despite lots of fighting not being my cup of tea, this book still grabbed me. I loved the characters, loved the connection they had, and was invested in the story. For an author to be able to pull a reader in like that even when the story type isn’t something they usually go for shows how good the author is.
I also have to say, I loved the love between these two. It wasn’t burning passion like in a lot of romance, but it was completely perfect for them. Marlowe and Adam’s romance held its own unique feeling and distinction that I really enjoyed reading.
The amount of research that went into this one is amazing too. The mythology mixed in with the more modern world created a unique story that I really fell in love with.
Overall:
King Of The Tides was a wonderful mythical adventure that combined the modern with the ancient in a beautiful way. The characters relationship was beautiful and I loved the growth we see in both the relationship and in the heroine.
Would I Recommend It:
So long as you do not mind a lot of battle going on, yes I absolutely do.

This book was a fun one to listen to while I curled up on the couch next to mom.

Adam Atlas is hotter than Hades… pun intended!
Marley is a strong little phoenix who finds herself with strange new powers following the bite of a demon. But thanks to Adam Atlas’s blood, she is now as strong as the dark forces she’s been fighting. A horde of demons is invading Earth and she, the Time Keepers, the immortals, and the gods all must do their part to keep them in check and find the lost city of Atlan, the kingdom of Atlas’s.
Atlas has an instant attraction to the bad-a$$ Marlowe, or Agent Six, as she is also known. Sharing his blood with her makes it even stronger and the sexual tension between these two was sizzling off the charts.
When Marlowe is taken to the Hell realm, it’s up to Atlas to retrieve her. And action, romance, and monstrous battles will ensue.
I love Amanda’s world-building. She’s so eloquent with her writing that it makes the pages literally come to life. This series has been truly page-turning with each of her characters being so different and unique in their own right. Marley and Atlas were straight fire and I loved the darkness of this book in contrast to the other two of the series.
I can NOT wait to read the rest of these books!!!
This is the best book so far in this amazing series. I loved every moment of it and totally fell in love with Marley and Adam Atlas. They are very different characters from the previous two sets and I thoroughly enjoyed their snarky banter.
I would have given this book 5 stars if the language had been as well polished as the first book in the series.
It is still a very enjoyable read, especially for anyone who loves the combination of Greek mythology and urban fantasy.
Well that was a wild ride!
This book had no lack of action (of all kinds). While I can’t say it was my favorite of the series, the action and intensity is on high throughout the story, as is the sexual tension. And the payoff was fantastic on all fronts as well. I’m definitely looking forward to finding out what happens next!
