The man I fell in love with is a f-cking liar… I don’t have much time to reveal all the details, but I will say this: The “Woman disappears after wedding” and “Woman flees after honeymoon” headlines are lying.I’m not missing.I didn’t run away after my wedding.I would’ve never run away right after our amazing honeymoon. My husband has taken me.No, correction: He’s kidnapped me because he claims … me.
No, correction: He’s kidnapped me because he claims that “its what’s best.” That I’m a mere pawn in his twisted game of chess.
Despite the fact that my heart is still tethered to his, or the fact that he’s still the most gorgeous and beautiful man I’ve ever met in my life (he can still make me wet with a single sentence), I have to focus on getting away from him.
I have to accept that he’s no longer the man I fell in love with.
He’s the king of lies…
King of Lies is the first episode in the Empire of Lies series.

Here’s my review: short and stunning, and I am gobsmacked. I found Michael Anderson fascinating, as I always find this author’s male characters. They are a mixture of enticing and a-hole, they seem like they don’t care but inside they do, they also seem like they don’t need the women they fall for, but inside, they do. Very intriguing.
Meredith lost her mother two years ago and seems to have lost her way. She’s been drifting between one-night stands, using Tinder a lot, but she’s aimless and needy. I felt that what she has is this deep need to have someone in her life, to love her and anchor her. I felt her loneliness, especially since her bestie Gillian has a full life with a husband, baby and lots of travel. When she met Michael and he gave her the best sex of a lifetime, she latched on to him and therefore made her bed.
I loved Michael’s dichotomy. He’s bad, through and through. He’s a criminal and with his brother they have a mail to order criminal services. He also is the owner of Fahrenheit 900, the IN nightclub in New York City. For Michael, Meredith was a mark, but she turned out irresistible. When she continues to look him up, he couldn’t resist her and therefore their future was set.
I felt for poor Meredith and how she felt alone in the world. I could perfectly understand why she pursued Michael, since he was as gorgeous as he was charming. There was so much magnetism in him, beauty in her (inside and out), her brokenness called to his, and their chemistry was off the charts. I can’t imagine what’s coming next, but I need the next book like yesterday!
So unapologetic in her unlikable, intense, utterly compelling characters. I love this author’s style.
The first few scenes in this novella, part one of a trilogy, are quite intriguing. He introduces himself as a bad man, then we have a woman in peril fighting for herself, and then a look into the past where the female character is built in bittersweet, relatable, surviving-on-the-edge strokes.
Michael and Meredith waltz around each other in a provocative, harsh, yet undeniably sensual dance. I loved the passion between them, also how determined she is to enjoy what little opportunities life gives her.
Then the undercurrent plot twists start emerging like a bloody tide and suddenly the unlikable characters seem larger than life. Luxury and darkness mix with a flicker of hope in a city filled with disappointment by day and evil plans at night, and the odds against Meredith are bleak. I am really curious about his unorthodox business and his intentions towards her.
Good thriller vibes and a dark hero to pray for redemption. I can’t wait to unravel the secrets of this mysterious and lethal story.
King of Lies by Whitney G. is the first novella in the Empire of Lies trilogy. A self-confessed departure from her normal writing style and plot type this book was no less a Whitney G. book. The story is suspenseful and dark and flashes between Now and the Past, slowly building the intrigue and twists. Information about characters, who they seem to be, what their motives appear to be and more are parceled out as the story progresses leaving you busy trying to work out motives for the main characters. The relationship between Meredith and Michael is twisted and dark and their is so much we don’t know yet. I was extremely intrigued and cannot wait to read more. Enjoy!
Wow. Whitney G really kept me riveted with this novella. Nothing is as it seems for Meredith and her husband, Michael. These two meet, have incredible sex and find themselves married. The real reasons for Michael being with her, trickle out as we get both their POVs. With a jaw dropping revelation coming to light as the last words were read.
This quick read is full of excitement and mystery and the kind of alpha male that Whitney G is famous for. I appreciated that there is an underlying charm to this story, as true feelings may just win out over obligations and well-laid plans.
I can’t wait for book two!
With King of Lies, Whitney G. produces a sizzling hot, thrilling and unputdownable romance that will transfix the reader from start to finish and them wanting more.
Whitney G. knows how to write hot and captivating stories. No matter their length, I know I’ll get scorching sexy times, characters that will intrigue me and a plot full of secrets and twists that guarantees I’ll be glued to my eReader.
All you need to know about this book is in the summary. Vague much? YES. But I’m a firm believer that the suspense will heighten the reading experience. Although here are my own 2 cents.
Hero: Have you read the prologue? L.O.V.E.D it! Michael is a bit controlling, sexy with a weird moral compass. He’s definitely a hero I liked, and even though there was reason to doubt him, I’m betting on thoroughly loving him in the end. (5 stars)
Heroine: I met Meredith in Turbulence a.k.a. Mr. Turner (5 star read) and was curious about her then and I’m even more curious about her know. (4.5 stars)
Sexiness: Off the charts explosive chemistry, this is after all a romantic thriller a la erotica. Yes I made that up but you get the idea. (5++ stars)
Feels: There’s lots of them. The hero and heroine entering a smart and lusty push/pull dance, the anti-hero going against his better judgment to have the girl, the girl definitely falling in love…(5 stars)
Plot/Pace: Perfect page with a plot that’s hooking and twists that had me biting my nails with anticipation. (5 stars)
King of Lies is serial #1 of the Empire of Lies series by New York Times & USA Today bestselling author Whitney G.. It’s told from both points of view with a cliffhanger ending. ub-genres: romantic thriller a la erotica
Rated 4.5 Stars
King of Lies was fantastic. It kept my attention from beginning to end and left me wanting more. It contains my fave things in this author’s books, cocky hero and strong heroine who gives as good as she gets plus it’s a bit dark and twisty. I can’t wait to see what happens next and yes I highly recommend it.
Whitney has always been one of my favorite go to authors. Dark romance is one of my favorite genres. With that being said, as soon as I heard that my favorite author was writing one of my favorite genres, I was in heaven. This book was dark, short, to the point and if this is any indication of what the rest of the series is going to be like count me in!
This book was dark and somewhat creepy. It was a little different than the author’s typical books. I felt it was a quick and entertaining read. I am left hanging with that cliffhanger. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
