“Sea of Ruin is precisely what I LOVE in Dark Romance. Elegant writing that paints a romantic picture, swoon-worthy anti-heroes who make aggression oh so seductive, and a plot that balances on brutal and breath-taking. Couple that with well-researched history and pirates…yeah, it’s a five pieces of eight gold stars from me. LOVED IT!” ~ Pepper Winters, New York Times bestselling author

What a juicy little tease! I’m completely addicted! This prequel made me want to read Sea Of Ruin even more! I’ve never read a historical romance before and I’m obsessed with Pam Godwin so it fits that she would be my first!
Loved this world with Bennett and Priest. The sexy pirates sure know how to heat up the pages of a book.
I was excited to read how Bennett and Priest met. I love these two. Priest is such a warrior and so protective and possessive. I couldn’t wait to see how he fell for Bennett. And I just new Bennett wouldn’t fall easily with her feisty personality and strong will. I really enjoyed this novella. It’s fun and flirty and gave me the insight I craved of these two.
I decided to spin through this novella before starting Sea of Ruin. You can read it after if you prefer. It was captivating, exciting, and full of action-packed drama. It was well-written and painted a great picture of some scintillating characters. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was left wanting more. I promptly purchased Sea of Ruin. Based on King of Libertines and the other Pam Godwin books I’ve read, I believe I’m in for another fantastic read!
Priest and Bennett’s beginning is just as amazing as the prequel to “Sea of Ruin”. Pam does a amazing job of bringing us into the lives of the characters. Bennett has been a pirate for years and doesn’t want or need any man. Then Priest walks on her ship and she can’t get him out of her mind. Then there’s Priest who lives in a brothel and the woman there have named him the King of Libertines and he lives up to the name. Now walking onto Jade and seeing Bennett for the first time, he can’t imagine ever falling into his old ways again.
I have not read many historical stories in the past, but thank you Pam for writing this journey and bringing us along for the ride.
King of Libertines is a delicious, little taste of Bennett and Priest and how they meet. I was immediately pulled in, eagerly devouring every word, savoring every bit of their lust and passion.
Imagine the sexiest, most virile, and possessive pirate ever, and you’ll get Priest Farrell.
Bennett is a BA captain of her pirate ship. She kicks ass and demands respect, and gets it.
Bennett and Priest together? Intoxicating. Powerful. Their sizzling chemistry made me tingle in all the right places.
In this short yet hardy story, Ms. Godwin created a perfect pirate world, gave me characters who captured my heart, and made me crave more. An outstanding beginning to the Sea of Ruin.
Wow, this story packed a whole lot into a few pages! This prequel to Sea Of Ruin will only whet your appetite for more from these two! Pirate and Libertine meet, instant, visceral, attraction. They resist, so hot, so sexy, so mysterious, and get to know each other. Still so crazy attracted, and they still resist, then they can’t anymore. The attraction fires the blood of them both, culminating in a wild and untamed passion. Now, where does it go from here? We know we have a mystery to solve, and outside forces lined up against them, and we the readers, are left needing to know how this will all play out!
N.B. I read this in the Australia anthology so it precedes my Sea of Ruin review

Wow! This is ultra sexy and intriguing! My curiosity dial has been turned up to the max.
I’m expecting waves of angst in Sea of Ruin (FYI, King of Libertines is its prequel).
King of Libertines is a short taster/prequel to the main story Sea of Ruin and I have to say that I loved it! It has left me desperate to continue reading the story and I look foward to learning more about the charcacters and to see how the storyline unfolds.
What a prequel! And that cover?! This book deserves a bonus star just for the majesty that is the cover. If you’ve been on the fence about diving into the intoxicating Sea of Ruin- this is a great place to wet your appetite (water pun intended). This prequel was original in the Australian anthology- and was the most enticing morsel in the batch.
There’s a lot out there as far as romance tropes go- historical and contemporary alike, but there have been out there that satisfy my swashbuckling, plundering, shiver-me-timbers sexy pirate love that are more that have more than just erotic content. Just from the prequel short story alone you can tell this story will have a captivating story to match the steam factor- and that this world, and this story, is truly unique. A precious gem in a sea of pebbles. (yeh, I went there).
The prequel introduces us to Bennett- the daughter of an infamous pirate and a fierce pirate in our own right- and Priest, our namesake King of the Libertines. Pam drops us straight into the story and never lets you go- the all-consuming passion, the intoxicating chemistry, the fascinating old world dynamics, the secrets and betrayal, the hunt for treasures real and metaphorical- you’ll be hooked. If you’re new to this type of story or new to the author, this is a great way to get a taste to see if you want to dive into the extremely riveting, shocking, and unusual Sea of Ruin. Fair warning that there are elements to that story (very “non traditional dynamics,” triggers, dark components) that might not be for everyone- but if you like your romance unpredictable, unusual, and extremely sexy and entracing, this story is for you.
I haven’t worked up the courage to read Sea Of Ruin yet even though I bought it release week, but if this little teaser novella is anything to go by, I’ll be fixing that real soon. Intense was made for a book like this, I think.
King of Libertines – Pam Godwin – What is it about pirates that make them such great bad boy leading men? Enjoy this fun novella! Happy Reading!
Gives us a little extra info and adds more emotions to the story. I read it between ch 6 and 7, one chapter late, but I liked it there because I had already formed my opinion about Priest.
I enjoyed this little novella before I started “Sea of Ruin”. “King of Libertines” shows us how Bennett and Priest fall in love for each other. Their chemistry and passion is hot to read. I loved to read a book where a woman leads a crew, but a pirate crew is even better.
I can’t wait to see more about Priest and Bennett.
King Of Libertines is a prequel novella to the magnum opus Sea of Ruin
It’s every inch as lusciously devious and Immorally decadent as the main story.
The purpose was for us to meet Oh-So-Devilishly Handsome Priest Ferrell
“Any woman with a pulse wouldn’t turn away Priest Farrell.
He lived in a brothel. They called him the goddamn king of libertines”
He’s the rogue bandit himself, all women swoon at his feet and into his bed, only exception being Bennett Sharp, the rebel Girl pirate captain of Jade
It’s just a tiny juicy morsel which gives you mere taste of the succulent story to come in Sea Of Ruin.
Fantastic start to a fabulous story which will remain in my top five for years to come….and I don’t even read historical!!
See what a genius Pam is..
5 stars for Anchors Aweigh!!
