In a place and time not her own, one woman must risk everything to protect her life, her kingdom, and her heart.Britt doesn’t want to be a leader, and she definitely doesn’t want to pretend she is the legendary King Arthur. But history has other plans.A magical summons back through time lands Britt into the schemes of the surprisingly young and handsome wizard Merlin. He has some bad news: the … some bad news: the real Arthur has disappeared, and the sword in the stone has chosen Britt to take his place.
But life in ancient Britain isn’t safe. The kingdom is fragmented, with enemies on all sides, and there’s little chance for mercy if Britt’s real identity and gender is exposed. Britt will soon find herself fighting for her life again and again on behalf of her people.
And then there’s Merlin. Focused on his goal to unite Britain, he’s oblivious of Britt’s growing feelings for him. Or so she thinks. But what future can they have in a world that only sees them as monarch and confidant?

Unique twist on a classic tale. Sir Ector and Sir Kay were suprisingly well developed, and deep. I can’t wait to know more of them. Disney gave them a bad rep!
This is the first retelling of the Arthurian legend I have read where King Arthur is a woman. For all that having a modern woman as King of Britain is impossible, incorporating Britt into the legend is amazing consistent and plausible and true to the original legend. Brava, Ms. Shea! This retelling could end up a classic itself.
I absolutely loved this series! It’s one of the best that I have ever read. It had action, an interesting plot, likeable characters, romance, and humor. Britt was such a great character. She was strong, brave, compassionate, and a good leader. I was torn between not wanting the book to end and wanting to find out if Britt went back to her own time or stayed in the Middle Ages. So, I quickly finished the series and immediately read it again! The supporting characters were good too. Merlin was a very interesting and likeable character. I also liked the Knights of the Round Table and the other 2/3 of the Lancelot Hate Club. (I thought the whole idea of the Lancelot Hate Club was pretty funny!) The witty banter between Britt and Merlin and between Britt and the Lancelot Hate Club members was great. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a good story with a strong female lead.
Still reading.
This series is so much fun to read it has engaging characters with an original plot and plenty of humor.
Never boring, flows nicely!
Editing could have been better for these books, but it doesn’t distract from the excellent story. I blazed through the first ‘box’ set (books 1-3) in less than 24 hours. I couldn’t put it down. As soon as I finished, I coughed up the ~$8 on Amazon to get the second set (books 4-6) and book 7 so I can keep going. A refreshing look at Arthurian legends, and isn’t weighed down with sappy romance.
I love all of the Arthur legends, and this was certainly an entertaining twist on the characters. I recommend it to all King Arthur fans!
The 3 book series was easy to read, a novel look at the Arthurian legend but….defintely a YA read. That was not made clear in the introduction to the book.
I still enjoyed it but won’t be buying the rest of the series.
Refreshing and interesting. Loved the different angle to the ledge dart story. Really loved it and do recommend this read.
I enjoyed the characters and I enjoyed that that the tone was positive. I enjoyed it enough to buy and read the rest of the series.
So cute! I read this series so fast! They’re quick books but you’ll want to finish the series. I really like KM Shea, I’m going to read more of her retellings. This one had a really good plot where the romance didn’t even come into play for a while and I didn’t even care because the rest was so interesting. Gotta love a woman masquerading as a man story!!
No sex, this is a clean book. (I wish it had sex, because it would be really cute sex, but alas, I must do without.)
Ms. Shea does an excellent job fitting historical research with a woman posing as a young boy. The characters stay within their persnalities–Morgeuse the closet feminist married to a pig was good–and the magical interventions were handled well.
Enjoyed them a lot!
