Lieutenant Eve Dallas scours New York City for the sadistic killer who murdered her captain’s teenage daughter in this futuristic thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author J. D. Robb. When the newly promoted captain of the NYPSD and his wife return a day early from their vacation, they are looking forward to spending time with their bright and vivacious sixteen-year-old daughter, who … vivacious sixteen-year-old daughter, who stayed behind.
Not even their worst nightmares could prepare them for the crime scene that awaits them instead. Deena has been brutally murdered in her bedroom, and her body shows signs of trauma that horrifies even the toughest of cops, including Lieutenant Eve Dallas, who is specifically requested by the captain to investigate.
When the evidence starts to pile up, Dallas and her team think they are about to arrest their perpetrator; little do they know that someone has gone to great lengths to tease and taunt them by using a variety of identities.
Overconfidence can lead to careless mistakes. But for Dallas, one mistake might be all she needs to serve justice.

Love all of her books. Can’t wait for more.
I love the Dallas series. Can’t get enough.
Grab the hankies. The punishment really doesn’t fit the crime in this one.
Great policing and detective work by the team on a difficult case which went back 20 years.
We also get Louise and Charles getting married, which ended this book on a bright if sad note.
I so wished Eve had made the rapist/murderer realise that his father had lied to him and used him in interview, rather than for him to realise it himself years from now when in prison.
Two women raped and murdered, one only 16 years old, the daughter of a police officer.
The other, the daughter of a child social worker, who was due to marry the same day as Louise and Charles. She was also unknowingly pregnant, which made the tears flow for me. I really felt for her fiancé and family.
So sad that two innocents are raped and killed over untruths. And all due to the fact the killer’s father is a lying sleaze of a scam artist, who twisted the truth to protect himself, whilst at the same time poisoning his sons mind.
I find it unacceptable, especially for the price being charged, that the editing in this book was so abysmal and drove me nuts. Missing speech marks, gaps in words and sentences, two different people talking in one paragraph so you have to reread to realise who said what.
I have owned most of these books in paperback for years but now have them all in eBook format, so I am rereading this series once more in order, updating and replacing missing reviews.
Even knowing what is in the future, it is absolutely no hardship to reread this series and I am really enjoying how all the characters are growing and changing.
Excellent book!! Love all of the J.D.Robb books written by Nora Roberts.
I’ve read everyone of the “in Death” books by JD Robb they keep you right on the edge of your seat. It’s always a wild romantic ride, with lots of cop stuff we all look for.
I’m working my way through the In Death series. By this point, I expected some Eve Dallas/Rourke fatigue to set in, but I’m seriously impressed with the character and stories arc.
The murder behind this installment is more brutal and personal because of the violence used and the victim’s characteristics. Because of that, I found it more visceral than most and read hoping that justice would be served. But the real joy for me comes from Eve’s interactions with others. Her snark, determination and wit continue unabated even as her relationships shift and mature. The series is a masterclass, really, on maintaining tension and interest while allowing characters to develop realistically. Would that I had Robb’s skills!
I love all jd Robb books can not wait for her next one to come out Dorothy Schaefer
Best series ever. Can’t go wrong.
enjoy this series. Written so well it makes you want to be one of the characters. I started listening to this series when I was traveling by car for work.
Lt. Dallas, Eve and Det. Dahliah, Peabody- homicide cops that are total opposites. You have professional mentorship, murder, NYPSD GEEK squad, plus love stories, bickering which just draws you into the books. My hubby even enjoyed the books.
Love, Love reading the latest one now!!
J.D. Robb once again enthralls and keeps readers on the edge of their seats. A police captain’s daughter is raped and murdered. Eve is once again called in at his request to stand for the dead. They begin with no clues and gradually build the case with the help of Roarke. The case expands to include many from the killer’s past. I won’t elaborate as it is more intriguing to read it yourself.
This book was another fun read. The characters introduce I hope will show up more in the future. The plot was excellent, character development is fascinating and flows smooth and fast. I would recommend this book.
Love In Death Series. I’m in the process of reading them all Again starting with the first. I have read all of them except 49 – 50. They are great reading even second and on some third time around. They really hold your attention. You don’t know until the end who really is guilty!!
Not sure how I missed this book, released in the year I got full time work, so too much happening.
Going back in time for me was full of sweet memories mixed with this awful crime. Eve is on the hunt for a psycho, could this be a revenge crime? The author wove the tale so well, pulling in all the pieces until we all had the full picture. Great story, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Another solid Eve Dallas story! Like most of the others, Kindred had me laughing at parts and completely enthralled in the story. But this one also had me tearing up. It’s possible that Kindred may have been the most emotional one of the series for me. I can’t wait to see what is coming next
This is one of my favorite authors have read her whole series. You can’t wait for the next book.
I love this whole series.
