Are the answers blowing in the wind?An amusing and heartwarming tale of mistaken identity, a derelict windmill, and a wee lad who eats like a horse. In order to get the hated Lockies to agree to refurbish the derelict windmill that sits on the border between their lands, Spenser McDool must wed Jane, the Lockie laird’s daughter. The successful processing of a bumper harvest depends on it. He’s … bumper harvest depends on it. He’s never met Jane (or so he believes) but has fallen hard for a scullery maid named Jennie who visits the mill.
Jane disguises herself as a servant when she escapes the cruel tyranny of her stepmother for a short while. She is unaware the man she meets at the mill and falls in love with is the laird of the hated McDool Clan.
Another steamy romantic comedy from Anna Markland.

Spenser McDool knows for his Clan to survive they must get the old windmill up and running to harvest their crops. The problem is the mill boarders with they’re feuding neighbors the Clanyard. Jane Lockie disguises herself as a servant to escape from her wicked step-mother goes to visit the windmill and falls in love. Spenser and Jane give each other false identities to protect their Clan’s. Afraid for her young brother Jane escapes to Clan McDool to live and finds her true love. A captivating story of a young couple who fall in love and we find out their Clan’s are trying to arrange an alliance between the clans because of the windmill. I voluntarily read and review this excellent book filled with adventure and a Highland romance.
Kilts in the Wind by Anna Markland is a remarkable story about two families and their vendetta against one another. Both houses entertain the goal of marrying their offspring to seal a peace. At the same time, the young people involved have met and fallen in love, albeit, not using their real names. Jane Lockie’s goal in life is to protect her younger brother from the evil being perpetrated at Clanyard by her stepmother, Mona, and her useless son, Ignis. Gavin is only six years old and will be her father’s rightful heir, if Mona doesn’t see him dead first. Spenser McDool is the brother to the laird of Clan Lagan. His brother, Cathal, the laird has returned to Scotland from the jungles of Panama where he and many other Scots had tried to establish a colony. He has returned dying of malaria. It is not a quick death. On this many good days, Spenser begins to believe that he will recover and lead his clan. Jane is too independent. Mona doesn’t like it so Jane has to sneak around to keep from being caught and imprisoned in the tower, often for days at a time. On this day she is dressed as a peasant and using a pony from the stable rather than her own horse. She just needs to get away and so she rides to the mill located on the border of her father’s property and that of Clan Lagan. It is dangerous, but exhilarating. Spenser winds up there as well where he thinks he is seeing a ghost or something. It is love. They manage to meet for several days before things get complicated.
There are lots of twists and turns in this romance. Mona is a terrific evil character and is her son. Everyone sees it except her husband, Jane’s father. She is cruel to anyone she gets the chance with. She even thinks she is winning when she agrees to the betrothal between Jane and the Laird of Castle Lagan. She’s also a thief and a terrible mother, who has raised an impossible son. Jane seems to be a kind and loving young woman who wants her brother and father to be well. The characters in this book are exceptionally well-written and interesting. The plot is well done and complicated without going overboard. There is misdirection aplenty, mostly for the characters, not the reader. It was an extremely enjoyable read. I recommend it.

Eastern Highlands, Scotland 1701 AD
Jane Lockie could only grip the bars and star out the tower window at the windmill in the distance which was situated between their lands and their enemies the McDools. For some reason it seemed to calm her troubled spirit and the one thing she could count on when her stepmother Mona locked her in the tower. Oh yes, wicked stepmother, but her father was still living and he was totally enamoured with her. On the first chance she got when she was released she stole away and rode to the windmill. She needed to be there.
On the other side of land, Spencer McDool was having a struggle of his own. His brother the current laird was sick beyond healing and he felt overwhelmed. At least the crops looked to be in abundance this year but they needed another place to help grind the mill so he set out for the windmill to see what shape it was in. He spied a lass standing in front waving her arms in the arm, like a vision.
Jane could not stay away, the large hands of the mill still worked although everything was broken inside. It was a symbol that she would endure also.
Dressed as a servant, she and Spenser meet, although neither know who the other really is a the journey begins.
Such a wonderful story as only Anna Markland can pen, with her wonderful words that create hours of reading bliss. Do not miss the addition to this series. You will not be able to put it down until you turn the last page!
Lady Jane Lockie has been having a really difficult time since her father remarried. The woman has her father completely under her control to the detriment of the whole clan. Everytime Jane gets locked away in the turret room, the old broken down windmill in the distance seems to call to her.
Spencer McDool is trying to find ways to save the clan from financial disaster but his brother is still Laird even though he is very sick. They need the old windmill for the crops this year but it doesn’t belong to just his clan.
Old enemies could be just who are needed when the trouble starts.
Our heroine is a lot braver than she thinks and our hero is a man with lots of love to give, but the clan must come before his wishes.
This is a realistic and exciting story with fabulous characters. There are no huge battles but the clans have hated each other for a very long time. So where does the threat come from??
I loved it.
Lady Jane Lockie was very unhappy. Her father had just remarried and found that all she did; was make her step mother unhappy with her. She was tired of being sent to her room as punishment for her actions. As she stared out her window, she watched the blades of the old mill turning in the breeze. To be free and have no worries like that mill, kept drawing her to it. Anna Markland has given us another wonderful Scottish adventure. Will Lady Jane find a way to make herself happy with her life or are feuds and hardships going to be all she knows.
